Discalimer: The sequel is nearing. The Final Battle is approaching. Let's see what happens next. I don't own Ninjago, but that would be awesome. This chapter is dedicated to FadingDreams101 because I owe her this chapter. Thanks and Please Review!
Chapter Nineteen - A Light That Casts A Shadow
Kai was very indecisive. He knew Selena should have been the least of his problems, but she played a bigger part in this than he originally thought. If she fell on the wrong side, and she could control darkness...
His thoughts were interrupted by the abrupt change of landscape. The sky was grey and stormy, as if rain clouds had formed but refused to downpour. Purple mist seemed to be evaporating into the atmosphere covering all of Ninjago city. Most of the streets were barren, no one dared wander out in the dark city alone.
Still, all Kai could think about was the fact that Selena was down there right now. Drifting back into a state of personal turmoil, he remembered what she said right before she ran away one last time.
"Accused me of being the enemy."
Cole constantly insisted that she had purposefully tried to kill him, but he remembered the fear in her eyes as if even Selena didn't know what she was doing.
To be perfectly honest with himself, he had grown to have feelings for Selena. It was hard to explain, and even though he knew he should despise her, he couldn't.
The dragon shifted and Kai was caught off balance. He put his hands out to stop himself from falling to his death. The dragon began to descend. He watched the ground bellow for any sign of life, expecting none, but there was something.
A struggle between a girl and red topped stone warriors had broken out on the street. The others didn't notice, they were either looking at the sky or the roofs of buildings.
Kai was about to say notify the others when the girl changed forms and a giant black panther took her place. The cat knocked the warriors down in one swipe and looked toward the sky. After searching the clouds, their eyes met.
The round yellow eyes of the panther stared at Kai before they darted elsewhere and the creature ran off.
Selena heard the flapping of giant wings up above. Breaking her gaze from the defeated stone warriors, she glanced upward. The four headed dragon flew overhead, concealed slightly by clouds.
She spotted a dot of red, and then two brown eyes. She stared at them, shook her head, and ran away. She knew she couldn't hide from the dragon, they were going to the same place, but she could avoid the riders.
Selena turned down a street and sprinted until she couldn't hear the flaps of wings. Slowing, she transformed back into her human form and shoved her hands in her pockets.
Knowing she was a safe distance from the ninja, she changed direction to get back on track of the building.
Ever since her dream, her flashes of memory, she knew what she had to do. When she looked at Kai, though it was cold out, she could feel warmth inside.
Finally noticing that she had slowed to a stroll, Selena picked up the pace and started running once more inn the direction of her destination.
They were completely surrounded. Kai raised his new elemental sword closer to his face to really count the number of stone warriors that were zeroing in on the group.
Kai and Cole were almost back to back, both were taking small steps to escape the advancing forces.
"Any ideas on how we should get to the top of that building?" Cole called.
Kai turned to examine the top. The wings of the Overlord dragon were visible which moved overtime the dragon turned.
He was completely unfocussed on his surroundings for a spilt second. When Kai finally turned he saw a stone warrior lunging. The warrior was in mid air and too close for Kai to react.
The stone sword stopped close to his face. There was a clang of metal and then someone falling. The sword stopped by a figure in black clothing. They were wearing combat boots and their black hair was hanging loose. The figure used a random metal pole to block the swipe. They finally turned around.
It was Selena. Kai smiled and then scowled.
"I'm sorry." She apologized. The moment didn't last long, as they were shoved back to back as the entire army attacked.
"I'm glad to see you aren't evil." Kai admitted. He sliced down several warriors but more took their place.
"I did almost kill you," Selena said, "on accident. Sorry for that. We left off on a terrible note."
"Even when I was told that you were on their side, I couldn't believe it." Kai just said words. He didn't really think about what he was saying.
"We have to get the top of that tower." Selena looked up. "I can clear a path as a panther."
She transformed a started to bat away the warriors. She started to make a way toward the stairs when everything stopped. The stone warriors all froze in place, holding their swords above their heads.
A figure dressed in brown was approaching with his arms raised triumphantly. Selena paid no attention to what he was yelling. She had to take her change.
Selena bolted to the stairway. She had her foot on the first step when one of the ninja called from behind her.
"Hey!" It was Cole.
Selena looked back to see the ninja running towards her. Kai and Jay were in front holding up Lloyd. She had just noticed the bandage around his ankle. Following them was Zane and Cole was in the back.
She climbed three steps before pausing to let the ninja catch up.
Lloyd looked slightly terrified when he saw Selena smiling. "She's not..." He trailed off.
"She's on our side." Kai confirmed with a smile.
Cole didn't looked amused. "We should keep going. It'll take a while to get to the top."
Selena led the way, climbing faster than Kai, Jay, and Lloyd. They made decent progress when the first shots rang out.
Nya was armed with a cannon shooting down from above. Selena kept moving.
She shot at least twice before the third one hit the stair Selena was about it climb.
Purple mist filled the air. It clouded her vision and she couldn't see the stairs in front of her or the ninja behind. She heard coughing. The mist was thick, more like a blinding fog. Selena's body tingled and her skin crawled.
"Selena!" Kai cried out from behind.
She looked down and closed her eyes. "I'm sorry. I have to go on my own. See you at the top." She whispered under her breath.
The fog started to clear. Selena ran.
She climbed silently and quickly creating as big of a gap as possible between her and the ninja.
It wasn't long till Selena reached the top.
The Overlord dragon stood almost too big for the roof of the building. It was turned around for the moment, but the dragon swiftly spun for such a giant creature.
The beady purple eyes looked down at her.
"Look who made it off the island." The dragon spoke. Its voice was raspy and Selena wanted to cover her ears.
"I only required patience." She said to the dragon.
"You should have joined our forces when you had the chance. Look around. There is nothing but darkness. The same darkness inside of you."
"That's where you're wrong. I made the best decision of my life when I left the skeleton army. I used your own power against you." She was trying to contain her anger but the building around her feet started to crack.
"I should have sensed that my own shadow warrior was among me. I also should have known that you had an immunity to the dark matter. Luckily, I found something to replace the dark matter. Something that will work on you." The dragon made a sound like a laugh but it was hard to tell.
The cracks in the building weren't just from anger anymore. Selena took a step back.
"You can't control me. Whatever you have won't work." She tried to sound powerful but her voice escaped from her throat.
The dragon made another laugh-cackle type sound. "Did you not think that I would have a failsafe all those years ago? Just one shot and I'll have my shadow warrior back at my side."
The dragon raised its tail like a scorpion, the tip of the tail was a weird shade of green compared to his black body.
Selena expected the tail to reach over the dragons head and stab her. Instead it reached around his body and jabbed her in the side. The tip ejected as fast as it was injected. She gasped in pain.
Then there were footsteps coming up the stairs. Lloyd was limping slowly up to the top of the building.
He was staring at the dragon, but he made eye contact with Selena. She was holding her side and gasping for air. He looked concerned and Selena could tell he wanted to help, but there were bigger problems.
Selena dropped to her knees and fell on her side. The venom type substance creeped through her veins. She couldn't keep it in anymore.
Selena screamed at the top of her lungs. Not just in pain, but in fear and anger.
There was a raspy laugh and specks of green. The last things Selena saw and heard before blacking out.
I kind of left it on a cliffhanger. Most people probably know how this season ended, but what is Selena's fate? Kai is finally forgiving her, but all of that could be gone because of the Overlord. Find out what will happen next. The sequel is nearing! Sorry, by the way, for the slow update. I've been extremely busy with projects and homework for school. Thanks and Please Review!
