Hello everyone! I am so so so so SO sorry that I haven't updated recently, but I have had a really bad last couple of months. This is what has happened: -In September I got into a relationship with a guy and last Monday I broke up with him. It was starting to get really bad. (communication issues) -School has put a lot of stress on my shoulders because I have a really bad teacher who doesn't teach at all. She just gives us things to do and expects us to know what to do. Thank God she's gone for 2 months. -Writer's block. That's all I have to say.
Well, in this chapter, I think you'll like who's POV this is. Enjoy.
"I can do this. You don't need to worry about me. I'll be fine." Alison whispers in my ear, a relaxed little laugh escaping her mouth. Her lips place a ghost of a kiss on my cheek as she pulls away from our embrace. When we have let go of each other and she looks up at me, her bright green eyes calm the irregular beating of my heart. I don't want her to leave. More than anything, I want her here and safe in my arms. The Capitol had to go and take her away from me, though. But, you know what's worse than that? She doesn't know that I feel like this. What she doesn't know is that I've been in love with her since I first laid eyes on her. It's in this moment that I decide that it's time to reveal my true feelings. Before she realizes what is going on, I lean down and press my lips on hers. She clearly is surprised at first and doesn't move, but soon, her lips move in sync with mine. Hopefully, this means that she feels the same way. I don't want this sudden burst of bravery to be for nothing. Once she pulls away, I already miss the sensation.
"Well, I-"
My hands are shaking when I wake up, and I find that my breathing is shallow. What was she going to say? I know that she was just a dream, but it all felt so real…. I can't believe that I care about this girl so much that I get anxious about what dream-her says. It's really pathetic, but this girl has me weak in the knees. I've fallen so hard for Allie, and she still doesn't seem to notice. What makes it even worse is that Cato is going back after her. All he is going to offer her is heartbreak and pain. She's so young, though. She doesn't realize what she would be getting herself into if she did fall for him. I could give her so much more! It's just so frustrating. Rubbing my eyes, I sit up in the unfamiliar hotel bed and look around. Unlike the rest of the Capitol, this room is not very colorful. The walls, the door to this bedroom, and the frame of the flatscreen TV are all the same shade of gray. All of the tables in the room are wooden, and the lampshades are cream-colored. I reach for the TV remote to turn on the TV, and once it's on, the first thing I see is Alison sitting on a tree stump. Her beautiful, dirty blonde hair still looks smooth, even after a few days in the arena. The green eyes that were blessed by the angels are on the sky, and I can tell by the concentration etched in her face that she is trying to tell what time of the day it is.
"It looks like it's about eight, but I'm not sure." She states, looking down at the blond-headed boy sitting on the ground across from her. Cato. "Is Lizzie awake?" Cato looks to his right at the little dark-haired girl sleeping contently on the grass beside him.
"She's out like a light." He replies, grimacing. "Why?"
"Just making sure. She really does need the rest with all of the stress that she's been having for the past few days." She says, the sympathy clear in her voice. He nods, glancing from the girl back to Allie.
"But what about you?" he asks quietly. The cameras switch, and now the audience is seeing his face.
"What about me?" I hear Alison's voice softly exclaim.
"You've been through a lot, too. You need to get some rest." He tells her, looking up at her with concerned eyes.
"No…. I wouldn't be able to sleep anyway. All of it would just keep me up." She sadly explains. He makes a slight face, but then looks down at the ground.
"You should at least try to." He whispers. "Maybe if you just lay down for a little bit, you would be able to get some sleep." The camera switches again, and this time, it goes back to Allie. Her eyelids are already drooping a little bit. Suddenly, her eyes shut, and she shakes her head to wake herself up.
"Maybe you're right. I'll sleep, but wake me up in an hour if I don't wake up before that." She commands before lying down on the ground next to the tree stump she was sitting on.
"Whatever you say, princess." Cato responds, smirking. He even has a little nickname for her! Okay, I can't watch anymore. Yet, I can't bring myself turn off the TV. It just frustrates me that she won't be able to see that he doesn't really care about her until it is too late. He isn't genuinely sweet or caring. All he wants is to get her to trust him until they are the last two standing. I know it! Then, he will stab her in the heart without giving her a second thought. The worst part is that I won't be able to stop him. I will just be forced to watch as the life in her eyes slowly fades away until nothing is left. There's nothing I can do to help her. Nothing at all.
(3rd person POV)
"I want her gone." Azalea states, looking at the TV screen with fury. Cato is supposed to be hers! Why is her father letting this little homewrecker ruin everything?
"I know, but you need to be patient. Cato just needs to keep her on his side until the very end. Then, he can kill her, and he will finally be all yours." the Head Gamemaker explains, keeping his eyes glued to the screen.
"He is the hands-down best actor I've ever seen." the President comments, thoughtfully watching as the blond-haired victor sits next to the sleeping fourteen year old, sharpening his sword. Azalea's gaze shoots over to the old man.
"What do you mean?" she asks, a look of concern crossing her face. No one has ever told her about any acting on Cato's part. President Snow looks over at her and smiles.
"No one told you?" She shakes her head, anxious to hear more. "Well, my dear, before the Games, I assigned Cato a little mission. I told him that he needed to volunteer for these Games and seduce the girl that was chosen for it. Then, he would make sure she stayed safe until the very end, where he would bring her to a garden of roses and wait until snow started to fall. Finally, to end the Games with a bang, he would give her one last kiss and then plunge her own dagger through her heart."
"Why the rose garden and the snow, though?" Azalea replies. She isn't shocked by the fake romance the President is wanting to put on; however, she is shocked by the significance of the rose garden and the snow. Why a rose garden? Why snow falling when it happened?
"Well, darling, let me explain the rose garden. You see, when a rose first blooms on a plant, it is fresh and young and remarkably beautiful. However, when you pick the rose, it begins its process of dying. Its colors fade, and the petals start to wilt. After a while, it finally just dies. I think that is a perfect example of human life. When a child is born, it's young and beautiful. However, it has already been picked. It has already begun its process of dying. Then, when death is upon it, that is when the petals wilt and the colors fade. Soon, it finally dies. I've always believed in putting some of my philosophical beliefs into the Games."
"And why the snow?" Seneca sighs, staring at the President with an amazed look on his face.
"Because it shows that death is cold. It doesn't matter how or why you are killed. It is still because someone is cold enough to do it." After those last words, Azalea smirks and looks back at the screen. Cato will soon be hers, she thinks to herself. Cato will be hers and nothing is going to change that.
Ooh, plot twist! What do you think about President Snow's plan? Do you think Cato has been acting this whole time, or do you think he really means it? As always, review, follow, and favorite! It's always appreciated! :)
RANDOM WORDS OF THE DAY:
"The moment you're ready to quit is usually the moment right before a miracle happens. Don't give up."
