Jacob sat next to Desiree, across from Jade and Trey. Well, now that Desiree knows were vampires, there are no ore secrets. Yay! No more eating disgusting human food! The way Jacob stared at Jade made me sick. Not my daughter. Jake was the first to finish eating and I pulled him out of the room and into the living room. "Imprinting on my daughter doesn't give you any right to do anything with her." I said glaring at him. Jacob gulped and nodded. I couldn't help but hiss.
"Bella, calm down, I'd never do anything like that!" Jake shouted, placing his hands on my shoulders. I breathed in deeply which was a bad idea. It reeked of wolf. "See, all better."
"Jake, I swear, if you do anything with her, I'll be the first to snap your neck." I threatened, moving his hands off of my shoulders. A thought suddenly came to me. "If you had a child, then you must have married and imprinted on somebody else? It doesn't work like that. There is only one person you can imprint on, right?"
"I didn't imprint on Desiree's mom." Jacob whispered with his voice full of guilt. "I only pretended that I did so I could have a family of my own."
"Who is her mom?" I asked, staring up at him. Jake took a deep breath.
"Angela Weber. She died giving birth to Desiree. There was a complication with her coming out breach and she didn't make it." Jacob sighed. I gaped. Angela is dead? I couldn't believe it. She was one of my best friends.
"I'm so sorry." I said remorsefully. Jacob sighed and then smiled. We calmly entered the kitchen again. Everyone had heard our quarrel, but ignored it.
"How is your dad, Jake?" Victoria asked, staring at him. Jacob's face twisted in pain and he shrugged.
"He's dead." I couldn't help but gasp.
"I'm so sorry, Jake. I had no clue." I whispered apologetically. Jacob tried to shrug nonchalantly. "What about the pack?"
"We spread out a bit. Sam is still on La Push with Leah and Seth and most of the others. Quill, Brady, Collin, and I are the few that are out here. We are heading back in a few months." Jake said uninterestedly. The night continued on being filled by many memories and questions. Everyone had parted ways to chat and I decided to go out front on the porch. The sky was moonless and starless, just like my heart most days. I heard a rustling in the bushes and I crouched defensively.
"Show yourself." I threatened, snarling. A silhouette emerged from the bushes and I recognized the shadow to be Jasper. "What are you doing here?" I hissed angrily. "I thought you wanted nothing to do with me anymore, Jasper Hale Whitlock Cullen. Get off my land." I was in no mood to be toyed with. My anger was sizzling as I ran back into the house, locking the door behind me. Seeing him made my heart break even more. I ran upstairs and to my room, slamming the door behind me. It caused the wood to split. I slid down the door until I was seated on the floor. I pulled my knees to my chest and I was having a hard time controlling my breathing. My heart felt like two shards of ice grinding on each other, or metal. Tears that would never fall filled my eyes and I cried my heart out, hypothetically. Victoria was knocking on the door, trying to persuade me to open it. I cried out and hit a wall. The entire wall shattered and it revealed Victoria's room. She ran in through the open space.
"Calm down, Bella. I have an idea. Go visit your dad. Give yourself a human appearance and smell. Take Jade and Trey with you. It'd make him happy." Victoria murmured, placing her hand on my knee. I looked at her questioningly.
"He thinks I'm dead! How can I visit him?" I cried, burying my head into my knees. She lifted my face up by my chin. Her golden eyes were full of concern for me.
"Come up with a story. Convince him that you were kidnapped and the children too and you had to live under an alias and couldn't visit until now. It will work, Bella." I felt myself stop panicking. It sounded like a good idea now to visit Charlie. I smiled at Victoria and she returned the favor. She left the room just as Jade and Trey popped in.
We get to see Grandpa?" Trey asked, a huge smiled plastered on his face. I nodded happily.
"Go pack your bags." They disappeared into their rooms quickly. I pulled out my own suitcase and packed enough things to last for a month or two. I zipped it shut and pulled it down the stairs. Jade and Trey each had a suitcase. Apparently, Jake and Desiree left during my meltdown, but I can't blame them. I grabbed our special occasion keys off of the key rack and headed towards the garage. We had an extra-large garage to fit our own special cars into. I had a white Mitsubishi Eclipse. Jade and Trey tossed their suitcases in the trunk, along with mine. We said goodbye to our family and got in the car. I pulled out of the driveway and sped out onto the highway. It took about two hours to reach Forks and by then, it was nearly midnight. We stopped at a hotel and decided to wait till morning.
Morning!
When the clouds filled up the sky, we pulled out of the motel. Not much has changed in this town at all. The 'Welcome to Forks' sign was the same as it had always been. The murky forest went on for miles. I let Trey take the wheel for a while as I focused on making myself look human. I gave myself dense brown eyes to match Jade. My hair was not as shiny and volumetric and my skin became warm and soft, but still indestructible. I added on the freesia smell I was always told that I had. I also added a bit of age to my look since I was supposed to be 35, but I was frozen at 19. The cruiser was in the driveway when we pulled up. The blinds moved faintly. Jade, Trey, and I got out of the car and I wrapped my arms around their shoulders as we made our way to the door. My fake human heart thrummed loudly. I was nervous to see my father after 16 years of him thinking I was dead. He would look older and I was nervous for that. I knocked on the door softly and Sue Clearwater answered. Her brown and gray hair was pinned into a bun. She had more pronounced wrinkles and laugh lines. Her smile was as bright as the sun when she saw me. "Bella!" She shouted and crushed herself to me in a tight hug. I smiled and hugged her back. "I can't believe you're alive!" She cried.
"It's a long story. You remember Jade and Trey, right?" I said, pointing to each of my beautiful children. Sue smiled.
"Of course I do! You were babies when you were taken! It's been years! You're both so beautiful!" Sue exclaimed, hugging them. They laughed and hugged her back. Sue led us inside the familiar home. Everything looked exactly the same. It reeked of wolf. Charlie was sitting at the kitchen table. "Charlie, hun, you have a surprise waiting for you by the door." Sue called out, smiling at us.
Charlie laughed and I could hear him coming towards us. When he rounded the corner, his jaw dropped and his hands were shaky. His eyes filled with tears and a gasp escaped from his lips. He looked older, but then again he was in his sixties now. His once brown hair was tinted with gray. He had well pronounced laugh lines and wrinkles. Charlie smiled like I had never seen him smile before. He came hurrying to me, hugging me tightly. I carefully hugged him back. We both cried heavily as we embraced.
"My baby girl is alive!" Charlie exclaimed, joy filling his voice. "I thought you were dead. I thought my grandchildren were dead. I can't believe you're alive. I have missed you so much, Bells." He said, squeezing me tightly. We finally pulled apart. "You have to tell me everything."
"I will, Dad. I'm sorry I haven't been in contact. I had to take on an alias and live in another state because my kidnapper was still out there. We lived under witness protection for a long time, but they finally caught the guy and here we are." Charlie and Sue both smiled hugely.
"I can't believe that happened to you. You're alive! My sweet girl is alive!" Charlie cried out, hugging my tightly again. I smiled and leaned into his embrace. I really did miss him. The hug didn't last as long this time. "You look gorgeous Bella. We have two beautiful and mature seventeen year olds over here." Charlie chuckled while looking at Jade and Trey. They both ran to him and hugged him tightly. I smiled and made a mental picture of this moment. Sue leaned onto my shoulder and I hugged her. "You two are so grown up. The last time I saw you was when you were little tikes running around in diapers!" Charlie murmured, kissing their heads.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that Grandpa. I've missed you." Jade said, hugging him close and burying her head into his chest. Charlie rubbed her back and squeezed her tightly.
"How long are you going to stay for?" Sue asked looking at me. I took a deep breath.
"We could stay for a month or two, at least until January, if you're okay with it." I said, looking to Charlie and Sue. They exchanged a smile and nodded. "Then we'll be here for Christmas." I promised. I looked at Charlie and giggled. "I see you are Mr. Married Sir now." I said, faking an English accent. Charlie blushed and I giggled again.
"Ah, Bella, I've missed you." Charlie said with a smile. I smiled warmly back at him. The feeling of being here was so overwhelming my being with joy.
"Was not! Give it back Seth! I'm telling Mom!" I heard the infamous voice of Leah Clearwater, or should I say Swan. I heard the heavy feet trotting down the stairs. Leah emerged into the kitchen. Her long black hair was pulling into a pony tail and she was vibrantly buzzing. She was starting to glow and show. No way! She's pregnant! She was 33 and Seth was 30. Oh man. "Seth is hogging the Wii." Leah whined. I chuckled and she snapped her head in my direction. Leah and I became really good friends when Jade and Trey were babies. "Bella, is that you?" She asked skeptically. I nodded with a smile. We embraced tightly and man, were she on fire. She had to be at least 109 degrees. "I can't believe you're alive! It's so good to see you! Jade! Trey!" She exclaimed, looking at them. Trey laughed.
"Yup, it's us!" Trey smiled. Leah laughed and hugged them both tightly. Jade inhaled deeply, adjusting to the werewolf reek. I heard Seth's big feet coming down the stairs. Seth had short curly brown hair and a giant, wolfy smile.
"Did I hear that Bella is alive?" He asked, hugging me tightly. He was just as tall as Jake; damn.
"Damn," I let out a low whistle, "you get growing beans or something?" Seth laughed, as did everyone in the kitchen. Seth hugged Jade and Trey also.
"So, how in the hell have you been?" Leah asked, looking down at me. She wasn't as tall as the guys, but she still reached into the 6 ft category.
"I've been better. Things have been rough over the last few years. We barely got out of witness protection and came here right away. It's really hard to raise two kids by yourself and do everything under an alias. In the last couple of months, it has been okay. I took a trip to Italy and a couple of friends and I traveled around the states for a while." I smiled, trying to keep things positive. "So, who's the father?" I asked, grinning at Leah. She smirked.
"Oh, you noticed." She murmured, blushing. "You'll never guess who the father is." She said excitedly.
"I won't guess because I want you to tell me!" I shrieked with impatience. Leah laughed.
"Embry and I kind of imprinted on each other." Leah whispered with a smile. I grinned like a cherishe cat.
"Embry! Where is he?" I asked. I heard another pair of large feet come down the stairs. Embry came into the kitchen, looking older than I remembered, but also the same as he used to.
"Hello vampire girl!" He called out, echoing himself from years ago. I rolled my eyes. Charlie must know about the wolf thing now or else Embry wouldn't have said that. I don't think he really knows about the vampires. He probably thinks it's a myth that they tell. If only Embry knew how true his statement was.
"How many months are you?" I asked Leah with a smile.
"I'm 4 months." She grinned and I smiled cheekily at her.
"Congrats." Jade murmured also smiling.
"We should have a bonfire tonight to celebrate Bella's return!" Charlie suggested with excitement. Everyone agreed happily. I smiled. It was good to be home.
