Daryl ran down the hall way chasing after Carol. He couldn't believe what Merle just did. Daryl wasn't even sure if he wanted to rob the group back in Atlanta. Merle was going to force him to do it whether or not he wanted to. Daryl thought about if Merle never got lost back in Atlanta, would they have robbed the group? What would have happened to them? Daryl didn't want to know. They were his family and he would risk anything to save them.
Daryl wandered around the vacant hallway of the prison, he was getting farther and farther away from the cell block. He was worried, Carol didn't look like she had a weapon on her when she ran and the tombs can be a very dangerous place. Carol did get lost in them. He rounded a corner and was relieved to see Carol sitting against the wall unharmed. She was hugging her legs close to her chest and crying.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" She screamed.
"Carol please! Please, listen to me!" Daryl saw the fear in her eyes when she looked at him.
Carol felt like she was frozen in place. She desperately wanted to run away and get as far away as him as she could but at the same time didn't believe what was going on. She had grown to trust him but he was planning on screwing them over.
Daryl took a step towards her and he saw her press farther into the wall as if she was trying to disappear inside it. He was about to say something but she got his attention. Carol mustered up all the courage she had in herself and decided stand up.
"Daryl… why? We had kids with us. Did that not matter to you?" she didn't seem angry or scared, but her voice wasn't at all soft like it normally was. It was cold.
Daryl paused thinking it all over, "Merle wanted to… I didn't really know what I wanted at the time…"
Tears filled Carol's eyes, "I trusted you."
"Ya still can." he took a step closer to her and she flinched back as if he was going to hit her.
"And what if Merle came back before we found the prison? What if he returned at the CDC or at the Farm then what?"
Daryl took another step closer to her. she didn't back farther away this time.
"Carol. As soon as I thought Merle was gone, I realized I didn' want ta rob ya. After we left the quarry, I had thoughts bout leavin. Didn't think any of ya wanted me, I am Merles brother. But after the farm I knew for sure I wasn't leavin'." Daryl wasn't lying but Carol still had her doubts.
"Dar-"she stared, but he quickly interrupted her.
"I went out and looked for her every day. If I was planning on takin off I wouldn't have even cared ta go find her. But I did, I went out everyday ta look."
Carol knew right away who he was talking about, Sophia.
Daryl leaned in closer, now their faces were right up against each other, "Hell if Merle came back who knows what would have happened, I've changed and ya know that. I wouldn't do that ta my family."
Carol was surprised he called them his family. She never heard him say that before. Carol wanted to believe him, she wanted to hug him and appoligize but every time she considered it she would just pictured him leaving, screwing them over and it broke her heart.
"Daryl why did you stay?" she finally let out, she could feel his breath on her neck and before she knew what was happening he had his lips pressed to hers. He passionately kissed her and she was shocked at first but eventually kissed him back.
He wasn't sure if he made the right call until he felt Carol put her arms around his neck. He grabbed her waist pulling her closer. When they finally pulled apart, she tried to pull away but he was still hugging her.
Then he answered, "Because of you."
She was surprised at his answer and stopped trying to pull away from his warm grip on her.
"What?" she questioned, "Why me?"
"Seeing ya heart broken when Rick came back without her. I knew I had to do somethin but every day I'd come back with nothing. Then After… the barn, I figured out what ya went through…" he paused not wanting to continue but he knew he had to, "With Ed… I knew how ya felt…"
Carol was confused, knew how I felt? She thought. How could he possibly know? Then it hit her, she barley saw them that day on the Greene farm but she did see something.
Daryl was looking for Sophia in the woods and got thrown off his horse, after returning to the farm injured Andrea managed to shoot him, the bullet just grazing the side of his face. After Hershel took a look at him and patched him out he was sentenced to rest. He was lying in Hershel's bed when Carol entered; she came by to give him food. When she walked in he tried to cover up quickly but she had already seen them. Hundreds of scars littered his back, she didn't know what to think of them then but she did now.
"Daryl." Carol pulled him closer.
"Ya can always trust me? You know that right? An I'm not Ed… I won't hurt ya no matter how angry I am."
"I know Daryl. I'm sorry I didn't stop to hear what you had to say. I trust you Daryl, I always will. I was just scared." She leaned forward and kissed him. When they broke apart she reached over and laced her fingers with his.
"bout what"
"Losing, you." They stayed holding hands and made their way back into cell block C.
Merle smirked as he watched Daryl try and apologize to Carol, she ran away in fear of him.
"That's better." Merle said out loud. He was finally getting his brother back and away from the mouse that was making him soft. Merles smirk faded as he watched them enter the cell block hand in hand.
"Shit." Merle realized his plan just backfired.
