Kagome woke up the next morning to find Sesshomaru had already gone. She took Kirara down to the kitchen to eat, and Dai Onna was cooking.
"If you don't know yet, Lord Sesshomaru left earlier this morning. In his absence, we are to treat you as lady of the house." Dai Onna sighed, looking at the questioning expression on Kagome's face. "I guess he didn't mention any of that to you." Dai Onna pulled out a bowl, and put some meat in it and set it on the floor. Kirara ran to it and began scarfing it down. "She must've been really hungry."
"I found her yesterday in the courtyard. She probably hadn't eaten in a while." Kagome thought to herself for a few minutes while Kirara ate. "Sesshomaru… Did he say anything else about me?"
"Not to me, but he did make it clear to everyone that we have to make sure you are happy." Dai Onna smiled.
Kagome mustered a smile and picked up Kirara, managing a quick goodbye before she left. She walked out to the courtyard and sat by the fountain, feeling more and more dread about Sesshomaru's return. She knew he would bring back Inuyasha, but she didn't know if she could handle the truth one way or the other.
She sat there, lost in thought, not noticing Kirara had jumped off her lap and wandered off. By the time she came back to reality, she couldn't see Kirara anywhere. Worried, she looked all over the courtyard, but couldn't find her anywhere. She looked further out past the tree line and there was no sign of her. She started to go back to the courtyard when she heard rustling behind her. She parted the bushes and saw Rin She was rolling around on the ground playing with Kirara. Kagome was so relieved.
When Rin finally looked up, she saw Kagome and smiled. "Hey. I found this cute little kitten wandering around and wanted to play with her."
"It's okay. I'm glad you found her. I was worried she'd run off." Kagome pet Kirara and she purred. "let's take her inside and we'll have some tea." Kagome helped Rin up and they brought Kirara inside. Rin had barely set Kirara down when Jaken rushed to them.
"Lord Sesshomaru has returned! He has brought a prisoner too!" Jaken exclaimed.
