Chapter 20
'October'
Gone: 60 Weeks
"Mandy," Jamie muttered as she came awake. The sound of her daughter crying resonated through the house. As she heard that she went and stood up. Then she made her way through the hall toward her ten week old daughter.
Moving into the doorway the sobbing turned into a slight whimper. Her daughter had a habit of doing that when she cried late and awoke Jamie. It was as if she knew she awoke her mother.
"It's okay Mandy. It's okay to cry," she whispered while picking up her baby girl. Amanda began to cry again. Silently Jamie sat down and fed her baby girl. As her daughter took her fill Jamie heard more whimpering. This time it came from George who was laying in his crib. Glancing in at him she saw he was moving his mouth opened and closed which was his signal that he was hungry.
Putting Mandy down, who had already fallen asleep she moved to her son.
"Come here Jory," she whispered while also feeding him. He was just as hungry as his sister had been though less vocal about that. "You know, Jory. You can cry. It's okay to cry when you need my attention until you learn to speak. It's never not alright."
He finished eating and looking at her. One of his brows had risen in a way that reminded her of his father. Shushing him she begins to sing an old fashion little song called Somewhere over the Rainbow that was used by an old fashioned video.
Halfway through the lullaby she realized Jory had fallen asleep. She laid him down then glanced at the clock.
She then sat down in the rocking chair and fell asleep. When she awoke she realized she was behind schedule. Hurrying she went and changed with the monitor which she attached to her waist. Then she went out and set up the milking machines on all the cows, turning that on. After she finished the milking she detached them and then went to feed the animals.
As she was working the baby monitor went off as a cry resounded from the speaker. She hurried inside to the sink where she washed the mud and other filth from her hands. She then went up the stairs to see her son crying. He stopped though when he sensed her.
Moving to him he slapped his diaper while kicking his legs which told her he needed a change. As she picked up her boy she moved him to the changing table. Glancing out the window she saw Richie pull up. Then she saw him step out and tip his hat to her before heading to the farm. She glanced at him before smiling.
Changing her boy she picked him up and then reached for Amanda who was waking up. Then she carried them downstairs and put them with baby toys before going to her paperwork. She would work until she made dinner or until one of the twins needed something.
This was her routine.
