When you're healthy all is right in the world

Chapter 19

It was early in the morning and Elena Gilbert was getting ready for her check up. She pulled her hair into a ponytail and applied some perfume. "Elena, are you ready?" Damon called out from the bedroom.

"Yep." She replied before glancing one last time in the mirror and exiting the bathroom. She found her boyfriend already dressed in his police uniform as he typed away on his phone.

"Everything okay?" Elena asked as she moved across the room to stand right in front of him.

Damon smiled looking up at her. "More than okay." He leaned in and kissed her passionately before pulling back and saying. "We should get going. I have something I have to do at the office before we leave tonight."

"Are you sure it's a good idea for us to just pick up and go to New York?" Elena questioned still a little skeptical about the sudden change in plans. She was mainly worried about meeting his parents.

"Yes, I'm sure." Damon gave her another smile before placing his hand on her back and leading her out of the room. "I've already told you. It will be fine. My parents will adore you."

"We'll see."

"No, you'll see." Damon smirked as he took her handbag and handed it to her. "Here." She took it from him while she rolled her eyes.

He headed to the front door and opened it before saying. "We first go to the doctors then we'll go back to that abounded house to grab your passport. Are you sure it's still there?" He asked worried because if she had no passport then their trip would have to be canceled.

"Yes, I hid it. It's there…unless someone broke in and turned the place upside down and found it." She answered as Damon locked the door and turned to the elevator.

They both stepped and Damon spoke again. "Okay, so as soon as we're done with the doctor we'll go get your passport and then I'll have to go to the station to finish something up. I'll be back by 4, and at 6 we leave for the airport."

"Got it." Elena nodded her head understanding.

It didn't take them long to get to the doctors. It wasn't far from Damon's apartment so in less than 5 minutes Damon parked in front of the hospital and they got out of the car. As they walked into the hospital Elena felt this chill. She hated hospitals because they reminded her of her dad. They went to the reception and cheeked in before taking a seat. Damon noticed how tense and nervous she was. He took her hand and squeezed it gently. "I'm here for you. Don't be scared. I'll go in with -"

"It's not that." Elena panicked. She felt the guilt rise and she hated herself for not telling him this earlier. She realized that she should have told him this last night when he confessed everything to her about Katherine. She huffed nervously before turning to Damon. "I have something to confess."

His face turned from comforting to confused and then to worry. "What? What is it?"

She hesitated, not really knowing how to say this. "I panicked a week ago and…I kind of convinced myself that I had a disease."

"What?" His blue eyes popped open with concern.

"No, no, I don't have a disease but I was convinced that I did because…well because every time I had sex in the past it use to hurt and…well I didn't know certain things that I know now about intimacy. Anyway…I expressed my concern to Rose and she took me to a gynecologist."

"What? Elena how could you not tell me this!" He raised his voice making most of the people in the waiting room stare at them.

Elena panicked. "Shhh…" She hushed him. "I can explain."

Damon stood up and so did she. He walked out into the hallway with Elena behind him. As soon as they were out of sight of prying eyes he snapped. "What happened? Why didn't you come to me? Are you sick?"

"Damon, calm down. I'm fine." She rested her hand on his shoulder as she tried to calm him. "I'm okay; I just didn't know certain thing about sex and I was confused. I thought I was feeling pain because I had STD's or something and I didn't want to give you anything. We were getting really close and I didn't want to risk giving you anything. I know it's stupid but I was scared because all my sexual experiences in the past weren't pleasant…until the night I spent with you." She smiled seeing that his gaze was softening. "Rose took me to a friend of hers and she took a blood test. Dr. Kinski. She called and you answered…I was embarrassed to tell you the truth when she called and when you asked so I lied."

"Why? Why would you be embarrassed baby? You can tell me anything." He ran his hand down her arms soothingly.

"I'm sorry. I should have told you…I just…I felt stupid and decided to keep it to myself but when we got here I realized that I should have told you last night. I mean, you told me about your darkest period and I should have been honest about this...so now I'm telling you the truth."

Damon shied running his hand through his hair. "Yes, you should have told me." He pointed his finger in her direction as if lecturing a small child.

"I'm sorry." She pouted like a little puppy.

He rolled his blue eyes and pulled her into a hug. "Don't lie about any medical condition. Whatever it is we'll figure it out together, okay?"

She nodded her head against his chest before pulling back and saying. "We should get back into the waiting room…I might be called."

"Yeah." Damon nodded and took her hand. They returned to their seats and waited patiently for the Doctor to call out Elena's name. It took a while but finally the doctor Wilson came out. "Elena Gilbert." She called out. Elena got to her feet immediately and so did Damon. They walked together through the little hallway and into the office. Dr. Wilson joined them. "Hello, Elena." She smiled at the girl before turning to Damon. "Mr. Salvatore." She nodded her head in acknowledgement before smiling. "I can see that you look much better than the last time I saw you, Elena."

"Yes, I'm much better now." Elena smiled nodding her head.

The doctor smiled also before turning to Elena's medical file. "So, have you been eating?"

"Yes, 3 meals a day." She nodded her head.

"Good. And what about sleep? Have you had any problems sleeping?"

"No, I'm sleeping fine."

"Good." Dr. Wilson nodded her head. "What about energy? Have you been feeling tired at all?"

"No, I'm pretty energetic."

"Good. This is all good." She smiled at Elena. "I will run a standard blood test just to see how your immune system is developing…but from what I can tell you're fine." She gave her a warm smile. "Oh and, I suggest that you try to put on just a few more pounds. You already look good but try to put on a few more pounds."

"I'll make sure that happens." Damon peeped in.

Elena blushed but smiled at his answered. The doctor also gave them a warm smile before turning to the computer. She typed something while Damon and Elena waited impatiently. The doctor printed out something before standing up. "If you two don't mind returning to the waiting room, please, I'll find a nurse to take your blood in a few minutes."

Elena and Damon both nodded before heading out of the room. They took a seat again, next to an old couple. As soon as Elena sat down the old lady next to her smiled as she said. "Is it your first, dear?"

"I'm sorry?" Elena asked confused with her question.

The older woman smiled before winking at Damon. "I've became so old…you kids don't even understand what I'm asking." She chuckled before turning back to Elena. "Is this your first child, dear?"

Elena's eyes widened when realization hit her. "Oh no. No, I'm not pregnant."

"Oh no?" The woman asked surprised. She glanced at Damon and smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry. I just assumed."

"That's all right." Damon smiled at the older lady as Elena looked up at him confused. He just gave her a little wink before whispering. "Granny seems to like you."

Elena rolled her eyes but smiled at him. They waited in the waiting room only for another minute before the nurse called out for Elena. She got up and headed to where the nurse was with Damon behind her. She gave him a look that was indicated to let her go on her own so he stopped in his track. "Are you sure?"

"I'm not a baby." Elena rolled her eyes. "I'll be fine." She smiled before turning around and following the nurse. It didn't take long for the woman to take her blood. Shortly she was out in the hallway again where Damon was waiting. "All done?" He asked.

"Yep." Elena nodded. "I gave her my phone number so that she can call me and let me know the results as soon as possible."

"Great." Damon smirked. "Now let's go get your passport." He wrapped his arm around her and they walked out of the hospital together.

As she stepped out of the vehicle it felt strangely afraid and as if all those feelings of terror and fear returned. The house was still the same, only it felt like she hadn't been there for years. It was old and the picket fence was still in pieces but she felt like it had been centuries since she lived in it. She felt Damon come up to her left side before placing his hand on her back. "You sure you want to go in there?"

She glanced up at him, staring into his warm and concerned blue eyes. "Yes. I-I was just having a little deja vu moment."

"I can go and get it for you. Just tell me where it-"

"No, I can do this, Damon." She smiled up at him. "I need to do this."

He nodded his head. Maybe she was right. He could protect her from the demons that would attack in the present but she had to deal with the demons from the past on her own. "When you're ready."

She nodded and led the way. She took small steps as if getting use to the fact that she was on the same ground she had lived for the past 3 years on. As she stepped onto the porch and the wood screeched under her feet she felt a sudden chill. Damon's hand on her back eased it. She felt safe with him, even here where her horror story began.

She stepped inside the house and looked around. It was a dump. A huge dump, and from what she could see it had been invaded. Someone was either living here now or someone had been here since the night she left. She quickly made her way over to the kitchen and pulled the last drawer open. She took it out and then pulled out a piece of wood. Damon stood by her as he watched curiously. She shoved her hand into the whole that was covered by the wood before pulling out her passport. He breathed out, feeling relaxed finally when she had her traveling document. "It's here." She handed it to him.

Damon opened it up and examined the picture with a smile. She was so young. Her hair was tucked behind her ears and she had a huge toothy grin on her face. She was probably 15 back then, and when he glanced at the date it confirmed her age. He felt Elena beside him giggle. "Stop looking at it. I know I look horrible." She made a move to snatch the passport from him but he pulled it away just in time.

"Oh you looked cute."

"I looked like a child."

"And what are you now?" Damon raised his eyebrow at her. "You're still a teenage child." He smirked at her.

"Well…you're not much older than I am so you have no right to say that…child." She teased.

Damon smirked at her shaking his head before looking down at the passport. "It expires next year which is good because now you can travel without taking out a new one." He tucked the passport into his pocket as he said. "Ready to go?"

She was just about to say yes when she remembered something. "Not quite yet. I have to get something." She said before heading into the other room that was her living room and bedroom.

"Okay." Damon nodded and followed after her.

She bent down next to the bed as she made a move to look for the folders. She had tucked them just under the broken wooden floor. She pulled out two pieces of wood and Damon watched curiously. She started to pull out pairs of socks before finally saying. "Aha!"

"What? What did you find?" Damon questioned.

She pulled out two dusty yellow folders. She placed them on the side before putting the socks back and the two pieces of wood. She then grabbed the two folders brushing the dust off of them before looking up at Damon. "These are my school records. Everything is in here. I kept them…just in case."

Damon smiled at his angel. She was a smart girl to have kept these school records. It made him happy to know that she didn't throw them away; it meant that even in the darkest period in her life she still had hope. "Good. We're going to need them."

"Well, figured it's better to get them now then later because I don't want to come back here." She confessed as she looked around the place. "I can't believe I lived here for almost 3 years…and I would be here still if it wasn't for you and that night." Damon was just about to give her a lecture about not giving up ever but she saw it coming and stopped him. "I know. I'll never do something like that again. Promise."

He shied extending his arms and taking her into a big bear hug. He inhaled her smell and kissed the top of her head. "Everything is going to be okay. I promise."

"I love you." She mumbled into his chest.

"I love you too." Damon replied as he kissed her forehead again. They stayed like that for only a couple of more seconds before she pulled away.

"I want to get out of here."

"Let's do that." He smirked at her as they headed out of the door. She carried her school reports and Damon carried the passport. They were just about to step into the house when some called for Elena. "Elena! Dear, is that you?"

Elena's head snapped in the direction of the voice. It was a voice she would never forget. She smiled when her eyes landed on the older woman. "Mrs. Flowers!" Elena beamed with happiness upon seeing the woman.

Damon watched as the older woman struggled to walk faster to get to Elena. Her arms were outstretched as she approached Elena. "Dear! I cannot believe that it's you!" She grabbed onto Elena and started to hug her. "Thank god you're safe."

"I'm fine, Mrs. Flowers." Elena told her softly as she pulled back. "It's so nice to see you again."

Mr. Flowers smiled brightly. "Oh dear, I cannot believe I'm seeing you. I thought something had happened to you." She said in a scared voice.

"No, I'm fine. Better then fine, actually. I'm very good and happy." She smiled brightly before looking briefly over at Damon before looking back at Mrs. Flowers. "I've found my way to happiness."

"I'm glad sweetheart." She smiled brightly. "You deserve it." She told Elena before glancing at the young man that was standing beside the car. "And you are?"

Before Damon could open his mouth Elena started to speak. "He's Damon. He is the new Sheriff of Mystic Falls, and my boyfriend."

Mrs. Flowers seemed to have a change in appearance instantly. She became even happier. "Oh that's wonderful! Wonderful, darling!" She turned to Damon. "It's so nice to meet you, Sheriff."

"Nice to meet you too." Damon smiled at the older woman. "I've heard so much about you, Mr. Flowers."

"Oh Elena, darling, please tell me you haven't been boring this handsome young man talking about an old ball and chain like me." The older woman joked.

"You are hardly a ball and chain, Mr. Flowers." Elena shook her head and smiled. "You are a wonderful lady." Elena came up to her and placed her hand on the older woman's shoulder. "Tell me. How are Patty, Jingle and Morin?"

Mr. Flowers made a sad face and her eyes started to tear up. "Jingle…she's not well. I-I think she's gone blind. She keeps bumping into things."

"Oh…I'm so sorry to hear that." Elena said sympathetically. Yes they were just cats but to Mr. Flowers they were her daughters and she loved them. It broke Elena's heart seeing the older woman so upset.

"That's life, darling…and she is very old after all." She shied. "I guess I had it coming."

Elena rubbed her shoulder gently and soothingly. "I hope she'll be okay."

"Have you taken her to the vet?" Damon asked.

"Oh no, my boy, I-I cannot afford it. I asked how much a regular checkup would cost and they told me from $100 to $150. Unbelievable!" She ranted angrily.

Damon walked up to the woman and took out his wallet. He pulled out a hundred dollar bill and a twenty dollar bill. "Here, I hope this will be enough."

Elena stared at him. She couldn't believe he was giving Mr. Flowers money to take her cat to the vet.

"Oh my boy, no. I cannot take it. I cannot-"

"Yes you can and you will." Damon smiled taking the older woman's hand and placing the money in it. "I've heard a lot about you Mrs. Flowers. You've done a lot for my Elena and now I want to do something to repay you."

The woman stared at him, her eyes teary. "T-thank you."

Damon just smiled and nodded his head. "You're welcome."

"He's a keeper Elena." She smiled at the girl. "And he's very handsome, if I haven't already mentioned it." She winked at the girl.

"Don't give him too many complements Mrs. Flowers his ego is way too big."

"A man like him has every right to have an ego the size of a mountain top." The older woman added smiling at Damon.

"Thank you, Mrs. Flowers." Damon smirked smugly. He wrapped his arm around Elena as he said. "Don't mind her Mrs. Flowers she can get a little jealous."

"Liar." Elena smirked up at him playfully before looking back at the older woman. "I'm sorry Mrs. Flowers for not being able to come and visit…everything happened so fast and I honestly didn't know what I was doing in the past month."

"Oh darling I completely understand. You're in love and when you fall in love everything seems to disappear."

"We promise to come and visit, and you can come and visit Elena any time." Damon said.

"Thank you, my boy." She smiled at the young man. "That would be lovely."

"We have to go now, Mrs. Flowers. Damon has work and I have something to attend to." Elena explained as she came over to hug the woman.

"I understand, darling. I hope to see you soon." She took Elena into a hug

"You will." Elena squeezed her tightly and smiled when she pulled back.

"Take care of Jungle." Damon added.

"I will. I promise I'll take her right now to the vet." She smiled brightly as she made a move to turn around and leave.

"Bye Mrs. Flowers." Elena called out.

"Bye, darling." She smiled at Elena before turning around and headed home. Damon and Elena turned around as well and headed to the car. She got into her seat and so did Damon. When he started up the engine she turned to him and said. "You didn't have to do that you know."

He smiled at her as he answered. "It's good to know that there was someone looking out for you while you were living there."

"You're just leaving?" Nick stared. "For New York?"

"Yes." Damon nodded as he started to organize his desk. Taking every file he could find on Kol.

"Why, may I ask?"

He looked up at Nick and narrowed his eyes. "Elena received a package yesterday from someone and I want to find out who that someone is."

"What?" Nick asked confused.

Damon rolled his eyes. "Listen, someone sent Elena a video of one of the darkest periods of my life. I didn't even know that it was filmed…and who knows what else is filmed." He muttered angrily.

"Wait. Filmed?" Nick raised his eyebrow.

"Yes, filmed. I was filmed in my own apartment lashing out." He told the young officer angrily. "Someone obviously wants her to think I'm the bad guy…but that's not the worst part. The worst part is that I have no idea who filmed and what else they have on tape." Damon stressed. "It was direct footage from my apartment in New York."

Nick stared shocked upon hearing the new piece of information. He watched Damon walk around the office grabbing stuff. When he was all packed he turned to Nick. "You're in charge."

"What?"

"You heard me." Damon told him as he grabbed the bag that was filled with files. "Until I get back you have the final word. Any problems that might occur call Liz." He explained to his partner before heading out of the room. As he stepped out he called for everyone's attention. "Listen up, guys!" He turned into Sheriff mood with his eyes blazing with seriousness and his jaw tense. "From this moment and until I return to Mystic Falls, Nick Mikaelson is in charge. He'll be your Sheriff and everything that needs to be decided you are to ask for his permission first. Anything that you may not agree with, that Nick says, you can ask Liz for her opinion and her opinion will be last. Understood?" He stared the men down, his eyes lingering a bit longer on Mason's.

Everybody nodded. Damon nodded back at them. "Good." He smiled before turning to Nick. "Don't screw this up."

"Damon, you can't just leave me in charge." The young officer stressed.

"Why not?"

"Because-because I have a low tolerance and so help me god I'll kill Mason if he so much as provokes me."

"Then kill him." Damon smirked as he made a move for the door.

"You're not funny." Nick followed after him.

"You'll be fine." Damon told him as he opened the door.

"No I won't. I'll murder him and then I'll be in jail." Nick stressed annoyed. "Why not appoint Tim?"

"Because Tim is a wuss and besides, you're my first choice." He smirked at Nick but when the young man continued to stare at him with concern in his blue eyes Damon asked. "Why are you avoiding this?"

"Because it's a disaster waiting to happen."

"You'll have Liz as –"

"No Damon. Liz can't do anything when she's up against the Mikaelson's and Lockwood's and you know that!"

"Then do it yourself. I've given you all the power. You're in charge." Damon stared him right in the eyes. "If he tries to piss you off retaliate and show him that you're in charge." He patted Nick's shoulder and smirked. "You can do this."

She placed the P.J. into the bag and started to zip it up. When it was all packed she sat on the bed and placed her hand on her stomach feeling the uncomfortable cramps starting to kick in. She grabbed her phone and looked at the date. Yep it was time. She contemplated on asking Rose for some pads but knew that the woman probably wasn't home and Bonnie wasn't home either. Bonnie had sent her a message earlier that she was going to meet her mum for the first time so she couldn't ask Bonnie for some either. She knew that she'd have to ask Damon and even though it was embarrassing she didn't fear it anymore like she had in the past.

In less than 15 minutes he arrived. Elena was sitting around the table with her suitcase beside her. He smiled as he walked up to her. "Ready?"

"Almost." She smiled. "I need to ask you to stop by at the drug store."

"Why?" Damon asked worried. "Did you hear from the doctors?"

"No." She shook her head. "I just need to by some lady stuff."

"Oh…" Damon nodded his head upon realization.

'I'm about to and I don't want to risk it happening on the plain." She explained.

"No, I understand." He smiled nodding his head. He took her suitcase from the floor and she grabbed her bag before they headed out of the door.

He placed everything into the trunk of the car before getting inside and starting up the car. They drove to the nearest drug store with the radio on. Elena was starting to think that this was going to be a bumpy ride. Her cramps were getting worse and she felt like she was going to get her period any minute. Damon noticed the way she was quiet and asked. "Hey…are you okay?"

"Yeah." She tried to smile but her face was pail and he knew instantly.

He parked the car and turned to her. He took out his wallet handing her a card. "Pin number is 02031993."

Elena stared, shocked to hear his pin number and Damon smirked back at her. "I changed it this morning. I changed all of my credit cards…in case someone hacks into my bank accounts."

"But isn't it a risk using my birthday…I mean, it's easy to crack."

"No it's not." Damon smirked. "Because when type the numbers go backwards. 39913020."

Elena smiled at him and reached over to kiss him. She placed her hand on his cheek and leaned in placing her lips on top of his for a passionate kiss. She couldn't enjoy it though because the cramps were still there and they were becoming worse with every minute. She pulled back. "I'll be quick."

Damon just stole a quick kiss before letting go of her. She quickly got out of the car and headed into the store. He watched after her with a smile on his face. Today was a pretty happy day for him. His family was going to meet his girl.

Inside the store Elena rushed through the aisles looking for pads. She grabbed two packs before heading over to the checkout. The woman scanned them and turned ot her. "That will be $7.00"

'Can I get a pack of Feminax, please?" Elena asked.

The woman nodded. Those tablets were the best and she remembered her mum used to take them when she had bad period pains. Elena never took medication for her pain because during her period she hadn't had big pains after she got on the pill but now she was no longer using them and the pains returning. The woman scanned the tablets before turning to Elena. "Total is $24.80."

Elena held out the credit card and the woman turned away as she scanned the cared and entered the pin number. It came through and the woman packed the stuff into a little plastic bag for Elena before handing it to her. "Thank you." Elena said as she took it. She made a move to walk out when another cramp started to squeeze her muscles painfully. She turned back to the lady. "Please, may I use the ladies room?"

"Sure, just through there." She pointed in the direction. Elena muttered a soft thank you before rushing over into the direction. She got into the ladies room and quickly pulled her pants down. She placed one of the pads onto her underwear; luckily she still hadn't got her period otherwise it would have been a disaster. When she was done she walked out of the bathroom and thanked the lady once again before rushing back out of the pharmacy and to Damon's car. She hopped in, a small smile on her face. "Sorry for the wait."

"That okay. Is everything alright?" Damon asked concerned when he noticed her holding her tummy.

"It will be." Elena nodded taking out the tablets from the bag. "Can I borrow your water bottle?" She asked and Damon just handed it to her. She took out one pill and popped it into her mouth before drinking some water. She handed the bottle back to Damon. "I just have menstrual pains, nothing to serious."

He nodded his head. "You know, a hot water bottle is good for reducing cramps."

"We're going to be on a plain in less than two hours so the safest way to go is to take a pain reliever." She explained as she leaned back into her seat.

"Okay." Damon nodded his head as he started the car up and went into reverse. Elena leaned back into her seat and relaxed. Shortly her pains would start to calm down and disappear. The biggest concern in Elena's life right now was meeting her boyfriend's parents. She knew that this could go only two ways. His mum and dad would either like her or dislike her. She didn't feel ready for this just yet but Damon insisted on taking this trip so she didn't have time to argue with him. She glanced at him as he drove. He was so much in control. He looked so handsome behind the while, the way his hands were turning that while looked so easy and natural, and his blue eyes were shinning from the reflection of the sun as he stared through the windshield. He really was a perfect man and she still didn't understand it. What could have he seen in her to pick her to save and fall in love with? It was a mystery that she still hadn't solved.

"Our son is coming home, Donati, and he's bringing a girl with him. I don't want to do this right now with you…please." Marissa begged as she walked past her husband and grabbed her handbag.

"Where are you going?" Donati yelled after his wife as she made a move to walk out of the living room.

"Has it come to this? Do I need to explain where I'm going? Do you have any trust in me at all?" The blue eyed woman asked in an angry tone. She hated it when someone, even her husband, questioned her on where she was going or what she was doing.

"Yes, Of course I have trust in you. I-I…" He older man shied as he ran his hand through his hair. "Listen Marissa, we need to talk about this soon…because if we ignore it it's not just going to go away."

She shook her head, her eyes blazing with anger as she hissed. "What we need is time apart."

"No." Donati panicked as he walked over to her. "No, we do not need time apart. We need to sit and talk about-"

"I can't. Not now…I-I just can't." Her eyes started to tear up. "The only thing I need right now is my son…I just need him. I need to see him happy."

Donati's heart broke at the sight of his wife. She looked so broken ever since that miserable night, and what was worse she was starting to distance herself from him more and more with every day passing. He didn't want to lose her but after everything that had happened he didn't know what to do to prevent that from happening.

Marissa took in a deep breath and closed her eyes trying to block out the pain. She could see that he was distressed about this as well but she couldn't be around him right now, not after that night. "I'm going for a walk." She murmured quickly before walking over to the hanger and taking her coat. She placed it on and walked out leaving Donati standing in the same spot completely helpless.

Elena Gilbert was sitting in the corner of a restaurant watching other passangers pass by with their suitcases. Her handbag was beside her while Damon had taken their suitcases to the check in. She played with whipped cream on her coffee while she waited for him to return. She was sitting quietly playing with the whipped cream when someone tapped her shoulder. "I'm sorry, this might be a little bit too forward but I was wondering if it would be okay if I took a seat next to you?" A young man with blonde hair and an Irish accent asked. His eyes were piercing blue and he had a small smile on his lips. He was attractive, Elena had to admit that much but he was nowhere near as attractive as Damon.

She smiled at him warmly as she answered. "Sure, you can take a seat if you want." She pointed to the chair opposite from her. The young man was just about to take a seat when she added. "I'm just waiting for my boyfriend."

He stilled in his movements before smiling and then sitting down. "Thanks." He muttered softly but she could tell that he wasn't expecting her to say that last part. He regained his composure before smiling. "So, I'm Henry." He extended his hand.

"Elena." Elena smiled extending her hand as well to shake the young man's.

"You have a beautiful name." He flirted

"Thank you, Henry." Elena answered in a polite tone but didn't give any sign that she was interested in flirting.

"Where are you traveling to?" Henry asked as he leaned back into his chair.

"New York." Elena answered.

"Really? What a coincidence. So am I." he smirked. "Business or pleasure?"

"A bit of both." Elena smiled as she answered.

"Lucky you." He added with a smile. "My trip if completely business related." He rolled his eyes. "What do you do Elena?"

"I'm a student." She answered taking a sip of her coffee. "What about you?"

"I'm an actor…or at least I'm trying to be." He flashed another huge grin in Elena's direction. "What are you studying?" He asked Elena.

"Umm…I'm kind of…Right now I'm –"

"Literature."

Elena and Henry both looked to their right and found Damon. He smiled at her before turning to the young man. "Damon Salvatore." he extended his hand.

"Henry James." He extended his hand in Damon's direction.

"Like Henry James the American writer?" Elena asked her eyes wide as she stared at the young man.

He nodded his head with a small smile. "Yes, my mother had a thing for him and well…she named me after him."

"Wow." Elena squealed like a child. "I love his work. He's an amazing writer. He has written so many books such as The American, The Turn of the Screw, The Portrait of a Lady, What Maisie Knew, The Wings of the Dove, Daisy Miller, The Ambassadors but I find the Guy Domville as his prized and most famous play…I was on cloud nine while I read it the first time. I mean, he puts in so much passion and realism but at the same time this huge amount of content into his work that it's just…extraordinary." She muttered the last word when both Damon and Henry stared at her with their mouths open. She felt a little shy and stupid for ranting on about a dead writer in front of this stranger and Damon who probably didn't give it crap. "Sorry." She muttered.

"Why?" Damon asked, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I like listening to you talk about your passions and your interests." He smiled as he took a seat next to her and placed his arm around her shoulders.

She blushed but smiled at him. "You have to tolerate me but I'm sure Henry finds this incredibly boring."

"On the contrary." Henry laughed. "I already know everything there is to know about the man from my mother."

"my point exactly." She turned her attention to Damon as she said. "Henry is an actor."

"Trying to be an actor." Henry added with a small chuckle.

"How is that going?" Damon asked.

"Very poorly." He shrugged his shoulders. "I'm actually heading to New York for an audition."

"I've heard it's pretty tough getting a good role in the acting industry these days." Damon said.

"It's like looking for a needle in a hay stack. If the judges don't like your hair you're out the door." Henry answered shaking his head. "What do you do Damon?"

"I'm a cop."

"Cool." Henry smirked. "I wasn't expecting you to say that though."

"Why is that?"

Henry placed his hand up in defense. "No offence man, I just don't see you as the police type."

"That's what my dad said when I joined the force." Damon smirked.

"Do you enjoy doing what you do?"

Damon glanced at the small girl beside him before turning back to Henry. "I'd never feel safer with any other profession then in the one where I am allowed to possess a gun and not be afraid to use it to protect myself and the people I care about."

Henry nodded his head. "It's a serious and dangerous occupation but I can see the appeal." In that moment Henry's phone started to ring and the young man excused himself.

Damon turned to Elena. "Where did you find this young and cute boy toy?" He teased.

She rolled her eyes at him. "He found me actually." She smirked playfully. "He asked if it was okay to take a seat and I said yes. I told him I was waiting for my boyfriend but he took a seat anyway."

Damon glanced at the guy and smirked. "He stuck around to see his competition."

"What?" Elena raised her eyebrow.

"He likes you." Damon answered like it was nothing. She didn't even see a trace of jealousy on his face.

"No he doesn't. He doesn't even know me. Besides, I made my intentions clear from the start. I told him that I was waiting for you."

Damon turned his full attention to his innocent girl as he smiled. "My beautiful innocent girl." He told her as he cupped her face. "There is something you should know about men. Every man is as worthy as the woman he possess. No more, no less. That guy over there," He pointed to the young man talking on the phone turned backwards. "is interested in you, not doubt. Despite what you told him he still stuck around and meet me because he wanted to see if he has competition or not." Damon smirked in his direction. "He's an actor and naturally he thinks that he's god's gift to women on earth."

"I beg to differ." Elena added. Damon raised his eyebrow and she giggled. "I say you're god's gift to women."

"No, I'm Marissa's gift to women all around the world." Damon smirked.

Elena started to laugh and giggle. Damon leaned in and took her into a passionate kiss. His hand was lingering on her cheek for affection as he tilted her head just a little so that he could deepen the kiss. Elena started to feel heat rise in her body. He was such a good kisser. After a few seconds Damon pulled back and found Henry staring at them. He smirked at the guy and waved his hand to their table. "Don't mind us." He pointed to the chair the young man was sitting in only minutes ago and said. "Please, join us. We still have more than an hour till the flight."

NOTE FOR READERS

First of all I want to apologize for not updating sooner. Right now I'm kind of stuck. My whole life is about to change. I've got a big decision to make that might affect the rest of my life so I ask all of you, my loyal readers, please bear with me. I know it's frustrating when you wait for an update but you guys have to understand that I have a private life too. Like I have said, I will not abandon my stories but my updates will take some time. I'm a full time university student and right now I am being faced with a big decision. I have to decide if I want to move to a new state or continue living here in my home town. It's been very stressful. I know it's hard for you guys too but I ask PELASE BEAR WITH ME and I'll update as soon as I can. I'm not just working on this story. I have three more that I have already posted and 3 more that I'm working on that haven't been even posted on fan-fiction yet. I'd love to be able to update a new chapter every week but it's impossible sometimes. I write from my heart and when I'm down I just lose my muse. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and reviewed my stories. Sometimes your reviews are the only things that give me a rush of happiness and joy. I love knowing that you guys enjoy reading my stories.

So what do you think about this chapter? Elena is healthy which is good, right? Someone is living at the abundant house…who do you think it is? Nick's left in charge so how will that turn out…hmmm. They're heading off to New York and Elena is about to meet Damon's parents. What do you think that will look like? Will they like her or hate her? Speaking of Damon's parents, what do you think has happened between them? Any ideas? Henry? Do you like him? Hate him? What do you think of Damon not being jealous? Anything that might come to mind let me know by reviewing. I love to read reviews but I hate it when only 5-10 people take the time to review and 250 people view my story but don't take the time to review it. Please do take the time because it's like a thank you gift to a writer reading a simple review.
