A/N: Hello there my lovelies! Sorry for the short chapter but if we get 10+ reviews I will post another (PLEASE I REALLY WANT TO POST THE NEXT CHAPTER!). This chapter is sort of a calm before the storm. In my original plot there would have been a lemon in this chapter, however, a reviewer (you know who you are) has annoyed me to the point of changing it. Don't worry, your lemon will still happen and is coming! Just have patience ;) **(Feel free to not read the rest of the author's note if this does not apply to you)**

My turn to rant: I read all of my reviews. Why would I ask for them and not read them? Also, if you don't like the story, don't read it. I am not forcing you to read anything and am tired of your accusations and rants. This is Fanfiction. If I wanted to I could add unicorns and a talking pineapple to this fic. I take all of your opinions to heart and try to make all of you happy but on the other hand this is my story and my plot. If you haven't noticed my fics tend to get really, really bad before they get better, but in the end they do always get better.

I do not accept your challenge because I cannot MAKE you read my story. That is all your choice whether or not you want to read it. However, I will give you what you want and show you the outcome of it. I do sincerely hope you enjoy the next few chapters (especially the next one) along with everybody else and hope that you recognize that I must take in their opinions as well as yours. Thank you.

. 21 .

The next few days passed as uneventful. They were spent together simply talking of meaningless things. For Alexander they were spent learning to be comfortable around Magnus again, and remembering just who the warlock was and why he had fallen in love with him in the first place. As for Magnus, he spent those days trying to gain Alexander's trust once again. He would slowly edge himself closer and closer to Alec every day and every night until Alec barely seemed to notice anymore. He began planning just how he was going to entice his angel into taking the biggest, most important step in their relationship so far. Alec was now comfortable with sleeping in nothing but his boxers around the warlock, but the moment Magnus hinted at going further the boy would stop him in his tracks.

Sometimes Magnus really hated how stubborn Shadowhunters could be.

As the days passed, however, Magnus' worry grew. Jonathan had not contacted him since he had returned from Idris. Magnus thought for sure that the monster would use him as much as possible. After all, it was not every day that one had the High Warlock of Brooklyn at their disposal. Though Magnus wasn't complaining. He preferred to not be involved with the Morgenstern boy as much as possible.

"Magnus?" Alec called from down the hall. Magnus followed his lover's voice and soon came to the study where Alexander lay sprawled out on the floor with a book, the Chairman never too far away. This had become one of Alec's favorite things to do and Magnus understood why. The Shadowhunter was reading every book he could find, trying to learn everything he could, trying to be sure that he hadn't forgotten anything else…trying to fill the space of what was forgotten.

Magnus smirked. "Yes, darling?"

"Who was your father?"

The question caught Magnus completely off guard. It was not a question he had not been asked, but it was a question he had never answered.

Seeing the warlock's face, Alec went on. "I'm just curious…You don't have to answer if you don't want to. But didn't you say that this Jonathan guy is part demon?"

"Jonathan Morgenstern has demon blood running through his veins just as Clary has the blood of an angel running through her veins. She is not an angel and he is not a demon. They simply carry the blood of them. Nothing more."

"But you carry demon blood, don't you? So why isn't Jonathan like you?"

"He is a mix of Shadowhunter and demon blood. I am a mix of human and demon blood," Magnus explained. "Why do you ask?"

Alec simply shrugged. "I just don't understand. Why would his own father do that to him? It just seems wrong…"

"It is very wrong, but Valentine was never in his right mind. The world is better off without him." Alec nodded and Magnus gestured to the book that he was reading, "I see you are making your way through my shelves…"

This caused Alexander to blush as he slowly maneuvered himself into a sitting position, closing the book yet keeping his page with his thumb. He gave a small frown, "I am. A lot of your books are in different languages though and I can't decipher them."

"Perhaps that is best," Magnus replied with a small smirk.

Alec stood, retrieving an old book that was covered in dust from the shelf and striding towards the warlock with a hopeful gleam in his eyes. "Maybe you could read them to me?"

Seeing the book, Magnus quickly recognized it and shook his head sadly. "I'm afraid I must be going. I have a client to take care of today and it wouldn't stand for me to be late. Will you be alright here by yourself? I put the wards up and no one can get inside unless you invite them in so you should be plenty safe as long as you don't open the door."

Alec nodded, turning the book over in his palms. "Alright. Perhaps another time?"

"Another time," Magnus said, kissing his Shadowhunter once last time before leaving and heading for the door. Alec followed and gave a small waive before the door shut sounding somehow louder and more final than ever before, as if it was a fierce close to the conversation he had been trying to have with the warlock. Sighing, he looked to the Chairman who was rubbing insistently on his leg and purring quite loudly.

"Do you know what secrets he's keeping from me?" he asked the small feline. As expected, he received no response. Scooping up the cat Alec return to the study and continued to read through the numerous novels. Perhaps somewhere in these shelves he could find something more of the warlock, something that the great Magnus Bane wouldn't tell him…

Hours passed by without the Shadowhunter even realizing it. It wasn't until a knock came at the door that Alec even thought about the time. He frowned seeing the clock and wondered if it were Magnus at the door.

Going to the entry way, Alec paused peeking through the small piece of glass at the man on the opposite side of the door. He had blonde hair and dark, almost black eyes that matched his outfit perfectly. He reminded Alexander of Jace in a way yet he seemed more…dangerous. After glancing at the Chairman for any words of wisdom, he opted to remain silent and wait for him to leave.

"Come on, Alec, open the door. I know you're in there," the man called as he stared right back at Alexander as if knowing the boy was looking at him through the small piece of glass.

Alec swallowed with a frown. "Who are you?"

"A friend of your boyfriend's. Please open the door?"

"Magnus isn't here. He should be back later, why don't you come back then?"

The man gave a small smirk. "Magnus told me to wait for him here. He said he'd be home within the hour and that I should check up on you. Wouldn't want Jonathan to get a hold of you, no? He nearly succeeded last time at trying to kill you, do you want to give him another shot at it?"

"No," Alec answered tentatively. Taking another look at the man he still couldn't bring himself to open the door.

The man rolled his eyes and brought up his sleeve revealing Runes that traveled from his wrist up beneath his sleeve. A Shadowhunter. He couldn't be so bad if he was a Shadowhunter, right? Then again Magnus wasn't friends with many Shadowhunters. He always ranted at how annoying they were. What was so special about this one? He supposed he could ask the same question about himself in the beginning.

Alec unlocked the door and opened it to let the Shadowhunter inside.

Jonathan smiled and entered the flat.

A/N: I am sorry for the rant and hope you enjoyed the short chapter. The next chapter is much longer than this one and much more entertaining so do please review so I may post it sooner! :)
