Two By Two
Emmett woke Kat up the next morning by laying soft kisses over her face. Slowly opening her eyes, she saw Emmett above her with a soft smile on his face.
"You're beautiful." Emmett murmured to her.
"Not with morning breath I'm not." Kat responded, pressing her hand to his shoulder, indicating she wanted him to move. Kat stretched her body out, with Emmett watching closely.
"So what's the plan?" Kat yawned.
"Well," Emmett started, pulling Kat to stand, "We are gonna meet Edward and Bella to spread your scent to throw off the newborns."
"So jeans and a t-shirt?"
"Probably. We grabbed your heavy jacket right? Alice says there's gonna be a storm and there's already snow on the mountains."
"Umm," Kat hummed, digging in her duffle bag, "Yep!" she exclaimed, pulling out the jacket.
"Good. Come on, we gotta take the tent down."
Kat watched as Emmett quickly collapsed the tent. It still amazed her how quickly he and his family could move. You could blink and they would be a mile away. Blink again and they'd be right beside you. It baffled Kat. But also terrified her. Emmett finished packing the tent and turned to her with a smile on his face, grabbing her hand they began to walk toward the clearing.
"This is the area we want you covering with your scent. I'm gonna go a little ways over, you stay on this path and just touch everything you can. Okay?" Emmett explained, stopping and turning Kat towards him.
"So just touch all the trees and stuff?" Kat confirmed. Emmett nodded his head, kissed her forehead and sped out of sight.
"Emmett?" Kat called, to see how far he was.
"Ya babe!" Emmett responded. He seemed to be about 15 yards or so away from Kat.
Walking forward, Kat started to hum a nonsense tune to herself, grazing all the trees, grabbing leaves. Spinning, stopping to smell some flowers. Running her hand through her hair, she ended up with some strands in her palm. She looked at them for a moment, realizing she's been losing more hair than usual these past few weeks. She shrugged it off to stress, and threw her hair in the air; the breeze catching it and spreading it out.
"Havin' fun over there?" Emmett called, with a laugh in his voice.
"Well I have to entertain myself somehow. You're not talking to me." Kat teased back.
Walking for a while longer, Kat started to get cold. They were getting close to the clearing where the fight would take place. Emmett appeared beside her, putting the heavy coat on her.
"A few more minutes, Bella and Edward are almost there as well." Emmett murmured, zipping Kat's coat.
"Why didn't we run into them?" Kat asked glancing up to him. Emmett grabbed her hand and pulled her to start walking again.
"They went a different way. We wanted to spread your scents out a bit." Kat nodded her head in response and just enjoyed the last of the walk with Emmett.
Breaking the edge of the clearing, Kat sighed. She wasn't for all of this to become real. She didn't want the people she now felt were family fighting an army of newborn vampires. She didn't want the pack to be put in danger. She didn't want to be far away, not knowing what was going on, or if anyone was hurt. She wanted to be back at home, watching a movie on the couch, cuddling with Emmett. She wanted the smell of freshly baked cookies that Esme made, wanting to try another recipe on her. Alice sitting with Jasper, talking about a future shopping trip. She just wanted to be home and safe; everyone to be safe.
Emmett pulled her to a stop a few yards away from Edward and Bella. He tilted her chin up, looking into her eyes. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and took a deep breath.
"All of this will be over before you know it. You're going to be safe and protected. Edward will be with you." Emmett tried to reassure Kat.
"Oh ya, that's a comforting thought." Kat scoffed.
"I heard that!" Kat heard Edward shout from where he was standing. Smiling, she looked and stuck out her tongue at him, before turning back to Emmett, smile slipping from her face.
"I love you. So much." Emmett whispered, leaning down to touch his forehead to hers.
"I love you too." Kat chocked out, rising on the balls of her feet to kiss him. Separating, they both stood for a moment just breathing with each other. Emmett grabbed her hand, kissing it and began to walk toward Edward and Bella.
As they got closer, Kat saw that there were two more people standing there. They both had russet skin and black hair. Wolves.
"Hi Kat." Bella waved awkwardly.
"Hey Bella, Edward." Kat responded. Edward tipped his head in greeting.
"Kat I don't believe you have actually met any of the pack. This is Jacob Black," Edward gestured to the taller boy. "And that's Seth Clearwater."
Kat shook hands with Jacob then turned to Seth. He had quite the baby face, she felt immediately comfortable around him.
"So you're the one I cried to the other day." Kat remarked, smiling at Seth.
"Yep. Thanks for the scratches by the way. You wouldn't believe how good it feels." Seth said, smiling sheepishly. Kat laughed before hearing a bit of a growl behind her. Turning her head, she smacked Emmett on the chest.
"Oh shut up. I was scratching his head, you were there. Stop being a baby."
Emmett huffed and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her back to his chest. He leaned down putting his head to her hair, breathing her in. Kat just rolled her eyes.
"So, I thought Seth wasn't joining us until tomorrow?" Kat asked to no one in particular.
"We realized, since Jacob is taking Bella up, we needed someone to take you. Seth is going to take you up the mountain, go back to the pack, then rejoin us tomorrow." Edward explained. Kat looked at Seth and saw his smile. She was sure he was proud to be chosen for this assignment.
"Well we should get going if we want to get there before it gets too cold to run." Jacob said, breaking everyone's focus. Edward and Emmett nodded, turning to their girlfriends.
"I love you. I'll see you tomorrow. Stay warm and stay safe." Emmett grabbed both of Kat's cheeks with his hands. He looked at every part of her face, as if memorizing it.
"I will. I promise. I love you too. So much." Kat whispered. They shared a short but electric kiss before breaking apart.
Kat turned to walk to Seth. He gave her a sweet smile and she felt her nerves calm slightly. They watched as Jacob lifted Bella and ran into the trees. Seth turned and looked at her.
"Ready?" He asked. Kat could just nod her head. She turned to wave at Emmett. Watching as he waved then turned and disappeared. She felt Seth grab her bag from her.
"It'll be easier if I carry it." He explained. Seth then lifted Kat bridal style and turned to follow Jacob through the trees.
More of a filler chapter but when was the last time you got 2 chapters in the same month?! I always love reviews! Thanks for reading!
