New update!

So I changed the whole Timeless River scenario in KH 2. To be honest, its not that big of a plot point in the grand scheme of the game's plot.

Enjoy the chapter!

Chapter 21 – Darkness Calling

Pete staggered up the steps of Maleficent's broken castle in Hollow Bastion. He had survived his near death experience in Olympus Coliseum. Apparently all that darkness Pete used and abused inside of him also guarded him from Hades' pit of dead souls. He was dripping wet in something that reeked of death.

"I assume you were less than successful?" Maleficent asked not turning around to see her lackey in a pathetic state.

"Do ya really gotta ask?" Pete replied soaking wet still in nothing but his underwear.

Maleficent glared at her subordinate. She would never tolerate such disobedience.

"So I came back empty handed!" Pete snapped.

"Don't snap at me!" Maleficent ordered.

"Do your worst!" Pete challenged. "I can take it!" His normal black clueless eyes were filled with anger and rage in which Maleficent had never seen before. Her lackey was on the verge of snapping. "I'll snap if I want to!" He roared. "Next time would ya put in a good word for me before I make a fool of myself?! Make things more smooth-like?!"

Maleficent didn't take Pete's outburst too lightly. The Mistress of All Evil yanked the giant dog by his pointy ears lowering him down to her eye level as threatened him with her staff. "I fail to understand the existence of a pitiful watermelon such as you!" She snarled. The staff in her hand started to glow. "Does this tiny brain of yours serve any purpose?" The staff crackled with green lightning. "I am not sending you on childish errands!" The staff shocked her minion into submission.

Pete fizzled to the ground writhing in pain.

"Get out of my sight, you bumbling oaf!" Maleficent seethed walking away.

Pete shook the pain off immediately getting back up. "Aw! I am too useful!" He yelled. "Why when I was startin' out, my picture was right next to the word 'villain' in the dictionary!" Pete reminisced about his glory days when he was under King Mickey's rule. 'Those were the good ol' days,' He thought. 'I was able to fool that Terra fella and almost got him to use the darkness in his heart,' He sighed remembering how he almost lured Terra, Aqua, Ven, and Levina into a trap, but was foiled by his stupidity. "Boy what I wouldn't give to go back to that." A thought then struck him. "Wait a gosh darn minute…" He thought out loud. "I can go back to that!" He then started to laugh like a crazy person.

"Milady! Maleficent!" Pete ran to his mistress.

Maleficent turned scowling at her underling. "What is it now?"

"At King Mickey's castle! There's something called the Cornerstone of Light!" Pete told her. "Alls we gotta do is tamper with it and infect it with darkness!"

"Cornerstone of Light?" Maleficent mused. "This is quite a find, Pete," She commended him. "I know just how to get it."

"Queen Minnie!" Daisy screamed running into the library. "It's horrible!"

"What's wrong Daisy?" Minnie asked as she put a book away in one of the ginormous bookshelves.

"It's the brooms!" Daisy yelled in a panic. "They've all gone amok!"

"What?!" Minnie gasped horrified. She ran out into the halls seeing the brooms not in their normal army-like formation, but they were straggling around bumping and crashing into things. The queen of the castle placed her hand one of the lying brooms. A warm light appeared around the solid object. "I wonder what's happened," She frowned. "These brooms were a gift from Master Yen Sid," She looked at her friend urgently. "I wonder if this has something to do with the worlds being in danger."

"It's hard not to worry with the king gone," Daisy said. "I wish Donald and Goofy would come back too."

"Me too," Minnie smiled at her friend. "Donald shouldn't make his girlfriend worried, but we'll be alright," The queen said. "We're protected by the Cornerstone of Light. No evil can penetrate our walls with that around."

"The Cornerstone of Light?" Daisy asked.

Minnie led her friend into the audience chamber where the throne of King Mickey rested. "It's right down here," She told her friend pushing a button on the wall and a secret passage in the floor opened up. "It's right down there. The Cornerstone of Light is the foundation of this entire castle." The two went down the secret passage. The female mouse and duck gasped in shock as they saw thorns surrounding their sacred room. In the midst of all the thorns a large sphere made of crystal or glass that sits atop an ornate pedestal and contains swirling light, the Cornerstone protects Disney Castle from darkness.

"Are those thorns?!" Minnie gasped. "What are they doing around the Cornerstone of Light?!" S

"Queen Minnie!" Daisy screamed.

Minnie turned around seeing Shadow Heartless jumping at Daisy. The tiny creatures latched onto her.

Minnie rushed over to her friend dragging her out of the room causing the tiny Heartless to bounce off her. "Hurry Daisy!" She grabbed Daisy's winged palm racing out of the room. "I have to seal the door!" The queen used her light magic to seal the room.

"That was close…" Daisy panted catching her breath.

Minnie leaned against the light barrier around the door frowning in dismay. "Why?" She thought. "How can this be?" She wondered sadly. "How can darkness infilitrate the hall of the Cornerstone?" Her thoughts then raced to Mickey. It had been an entire year since he left her to save the worlds. 'Oh Mickey…,' She thought worried. 'Where are you? I need you.'

"Donald, where are you?!" Daisy screamed hoping that Donald could hear her. "Please come back!"

"Achoo!" Donald sneezed rubbing his beak.

"Gawrsh Donald, are you coming down with somethin'?" Goofy asked. He, Sora, Levina, and Lira were eating noodles courtesy of the gummi ship's fridge.

"I think someone's thinking about me." Donald sniffled.

"Mmmm that sure hits the spot!" Sora slurped.

"Your table manners are atrocious." Lira scowled.

"But we're not on a table." Sora replied with food in his mouth.

Levina giggled. "Sora, that's gross." She told him.

The boy wiped his mouth with a napkin and he looked at Donald. "So where are we headed next?"

"Let's see..," Donald looked at the map on screen. "I better ask the navigation team! Navigation center come in!" Donald ordered Chip and Dale. There was utter silence coming from a small hole in the ship's control panel where Chip and Dale rested. "Hey!" Donald screamed pushing a call button.

The two chipmunks were asleep. Their ears were ringing as they heard an alarming buzzing sound.

"Hey what's the big deal?!" Chip pouted.

"I was having the best dream ever!" Dale added.

"QUIT SLEEPING ON THE JOB!" Donald fumed at them.

"What's our next course?" Goofy asked.

"Let's see…" Chip looked at the tiny map he had.

"Oh!" Dale smiled. The coordinates on the map pointed to Disney Castle. "The next stop is to Disney Castle!"

"Hey! We can go home for a while!" He smiled. "I haven't seen Daisy in such a long time!"

"A'hyuck, you just want her home cooking, Donald!" Goofy laughed.

"I haven't been there in years!" Levina smiled looking the tiny town in the distance. She smiled at the fond memories she had there with Ven, where they almost kissed.

Sora looked at her. "Are you ok?" He gently squeezed her hand.

"Just missing my friends…" Levina sighed. "Coming back here brings back a lot of good memories; I always wanted to go to Disney Castle with my friends."

"Disney Castle?" Sora asked. He looked at the triangular shaped coordinates on the screen of a castle. It was blue and white with green and red flags everywhere. Normally they were yellow, but the flags change celebrating different holidays. Disney Town seemed to empty, everyone must've been at the castle. The only time it was full of people was during the Million Dreams Festival years ago. He smiled at her. "Well you are with your friends," He told her. "So you still get to keep that promise."

"Sora, you are a marshmallow." Lira shook her head. That wasn't an insult; she was actually commending him on his kind-hearted nature.

Kairi stared at Axel as he extended his hand out to her.

"Why don't we go see him?" Axel suggested.

Kairi backed away. She knew nothing of this person, even if he did know Sora. She gasped frightened as she was suddenly surrounded by a group of Dusks.

"You and I have got something in common," Axel said to her as he walked up to her. "We both miss someone we care about."

"No!" Kairi screamed punching one of the Dusks as they tried to grab her.

'She's a lot tougher than she looks,' Axel thought as he watched Kairi hold her own against the Dusks. 'Guess that's why she's a Princess of Heart.' He watched her run. "See we're practically friends already!"

Kairi stopped to catch her breath glaring at the red head. "Friends?!" She gasped. "You aren't acting very friendly!" She glared hatefully at the man in front of her. "You just care about yourself! There's no way I'm going with you or those ugly monsters!"

Axel looked at the Dusks around them. "Oh you mean them?" He shrugged at the Dusks. "I think you're getting the wrong idea," He told her trying to win her over. "Don't be afraid. They're pretty good guys once you get to know them."

The Dusks lunged at her and were suddenly tackled by Pluto. He appeared from a dark corridor and jumped on Axel. The friendly dog barked at red head.

"Hey get off me!" Axel yelled and groaned as Pluto began licking him. He recognized Axel from when he was with him, Xion, and Roxas. "Quit it! Where'd you come from anyway?!"

Pluto was still on Axel and he looked at Kairi wagging his tail barking urgently.

"What is it?" Kairi asked the friendly dog. She then turned around looking at the dark corridor. "Eek!" She screamed. "What is that?!"

Pluto jumped off of Axel running through the corridor barking at Kairi wanting to follow her.

"Huh? You want me to follow you?" Kairi asked.

"No! Wait!" Axel called to her. "Don't do it!"

"It's a lot better than staying here with you!" Kairi said to him sticking her tongue out before following Pluto. "Wait for me doggy!"

Axel sighed in defeat as the dark corridor closed. 'Maybe I'm in over my head,' He thought grimly. 'But she's the only link to get Roxas back,' He balled his fists. "Alright then Kairi, I'll find you."

Kairi wandered in the dark corridor with Pluto. "This is so weird," She said walking in the darkness. "What is this place?" She wondered as Pluto stayed by her side. She smiled seeing an exit. "Finally an exit!" She smiled running towards it.

She came to a stop as she someone in a black coat.

Pluto ran towards the stranger happily barking while running through the bright exit.

"Huh? Kairi wondered trying to get a glimpse of the person's face. "Riku…?" She held her head. She was never exposed to this much darkness. 'S-Sora…' The girl passed out once she reached the end which led her to Twilight Town.

"Queen Minnie!" Daisy yelled. "There's more Heartless!"

Minnie gasped at the Shadows creeping up the walls of the castle.

Daisy bravely whacked the horrible creatures of darkness with her broom. "Take that!" She screamed.

"Daisy, get back!" Minnie told her friend. The queen folded her hands together and was in a somewhat sort of trance. A pure white aura surrounded her and then she yelled, "Flash!" The light hit the Heartless that were on the walls.

The two gasped as more appeared where slain Heartless laid.

"To the library!" Minnie grabbed Daisy's wing running to the library. She shut the door, but the Shadows tried clawing their way in. "Oh dear…" Minnie frowned.

"This is horrible, the castle is swarming with Heartless!" Daisy screamed. She heard the faint scratches of the Shadow Heartless trying to get their way into the room to consume their hearts. "We'll be sitting ducks here!" She cried out. "I wish Donald was here!"

"So this is your castle?" Sora asked as he, Donald, Goofy, Levina, and Lira walked inside. He smiled at his animal friends. "Must be nice to be home, huh?" He asked them looking at Donald. "Especially you Donald, you're always talking about how good Daisy's cooking is!" He beamed thinking about food. He then realized that Donald wasn't paying attention to anything Sora was saying. "What's wrong?"

Goofy scratched his head deep in thought. "Somethin' just doesn't feel right." He said.

"Yeah, something's fishy." Donald added. He then quacked seeing Heartless squirming on the ground near a wall where Minnie had attacked them. "Heartless?!" He raged at the dark monsters smacking them with his staff.

"What are Heartless doing here?" Lira questioned. "This is really strange, I've never seen Heartless here at all since I've lived here."

"What's so weird about having Heartless here?" Sora asked dumbly. "There's Heartless everywhere we go."

"BUT THEY CAN'T BE HERE!" Donald screamed raising his voice.

"The castle's protected by the Cornerstone of Light." Goofy explained. "No bein' of darkness could ever get here."

"What about Queen Minnie?" Lira asked.

"She could be in danger!" Levina gasped.

"Daisy too!" Donald panicked.

"There must be some kind of trouble here." Sora said to his friends and started dashing down the hallway to where the library was. "Come on we'd better hurry and find them!"

Donald raced after Sora hoping he could find Daisy.

"Hold on fellas!" Goofy called to his friends.

"What's the matter Goofy?" Sora asked.

Goofy sternly looked at them. "No runnin' in the halls!" He told them.

"Aww but we're in a hurry!" Sora pouted.

"You've still gotta follow the rules, Sora!" Goofy told him. "It's the king's orders!"

The group walked in a single file looking around for any signs of Heartless. They saw that the library door was sealed off.

"The door to the library is sealed shut," Goofy pondered looking at Donald. "Do ya think the queen did that?"

"She probably did," Donald sighed in relief. "That means Queen Minnie and Daisy are safe!" He turned to Sora. "Open it quick!"

"What am I a locksmith?" Sora pouted raising his keyblade in the air to open the lock.

Minnie heard the door to the library open and readied her broom thinking that it was the Heartless.

"Oh no!" Daisy panicked. "The Heartless are breaking through!" She ducked behind a nearby counter.

Minnie was relieved when she Sora and the others walk into the room. "Oh my it's you!" She said in relief.

"What are the Heartless doing here?!" Donald demanded to know.

Minnie turned to Daisy who was hiding behind the counter. "You can come out now, Daisy," She reassured her friend. "Donald's back!"

Daisy peeked out from behind the counter.

"Daisy!" Donald smiled happily.

"Donald!" Daisy smiled brushing a few tears in her eyes. She ran to her lost lover and bashed him over the head with her broom. "You forgot all about our date!" She screamed hitting him over the head repeatedly with the broom.

"Wak!" Donald screamed.

"I'm so glad you're here!" Daisy dropped the broom hugging Donald tightly.

"What's wrong with the Cornerstone of Light, your majesty?" Goofy asked while Donald and Daisy were getting reacquainted. The dog looked around for Clarabelle, but there was no sign of her. "Gawrsh where's Clarabelle, Queen Minnie?"

"I'm afraid the Cornerstone of Light is being drained by the thorns," Minnie explained. "I just don't know where they came from." She looked at Goofy sadly. 'What do I tell him?' Minnie thought worried. 'Should I tell him that Clarabelle threw herself at the Heartless to save me and Daisy?''

Goofy looked at Minnie anxiously frowning, "Where is she Queen Minnie?" He asked desperately.

"Goofy..," Minnie said slowly. "The Heartless….they," She bowed her head not having the strength to say it knowing it would hurt the brave knight's heart.

Goofy frowned. "Oh…" He lowered his head knowing exactly what Minnie was going to say. 'Clarabelle…' He thought sadly. His hand tightly held his shield. He felt a strange sense of frustration filling his heart. Why wasn't he here to help her? He could've helped her, he knew that he could. If he ever saw another Heartless again…

"Goofy…." Sora walked up to his friend breaking Goofy out of his thoughts. "It'll be alright," He reassured his friend. "We'll put a stop to the Heartless!" He said with pride. "You'll see! We'll find a way to get Clarabelle's heart back and everyone else's heart!"

Goofy smiled at this, "Gawrsh Sora, ya promise?" He asked.

"Of course I promise!" Sora beamed.

"We're here with you!" Levina smiled at him.

"So is Donald, right Donald?" Lira turned around seeing Donald following Minnie and Daisy to where the Cornerstone of Light was being kept and surrounded by thorns.

"Wait for us!" Sora screamed running down the steps.

They all saw the Cornerstone of Light being engulfed with thorns with no way of getting to it. "It's as if something has awakened from a deep sleep," Minnie said.

"This is awful!" Donald quacked, "These thorns are letting all the Heartless in!"

"Do you think some bad guy might be after the castle?" Sora asked. "Like the Organization!" He assumed. "They're probably trying to get in while the king's away."

At the mention of Mickey's name, Minnie looked at Sora with hopeful eyes. "Have you heard from the king?" She asked.

"Not a word." Donald answered.

Minnie sighed in disappointment.

"We saw him once," Donald reassured the queen. "But he was in a real hurry."

"He never slows down when it comes to defending the light," Minnie smiled and looked at her friends. "Then why are you here? Shouldn't you be looking for more ways to defeat the darkness?"

"We dropped everythin' and came straight here soon as we knew the castle was in trouble." Goofy told her. He then looked at Sora thinking about what he said. "Gawrsh do you ya think the Organization is really behind this?" He asked. "Who else would be tryin' to get the Cornerstone of Light?"

"In this world the only enemy we have is Pete." Minnie said. "And he's locked up."

"PETE?!" Sora, Donald, and Goofy screamed.

"The king banished him to another dimension." Minnie confirmed.

"Well he's back now!" Lira scoffed. "He's been causing trouble for us ever since we ran into him!"

"Yeah," Donald raged. "He's been using the darkness and sending Heartless at us in every world we go to!"

"I wonder how he escaped?" Levina questioned. "But what would he want with the Cornerstone of Light?"

"Then did Pete do this?" Minnie wondered.

"I don't know but…" Donald trailed off as he and everyone felt an ungodly force of darkness appear in the room. They all saw a dark corridor manifest into the room. Sora, Donald, Goofy, Levina, and Lira readied their weapons.

Maleficent appeared from the corridor.

"MALEFICENT!" They all gasped in horror.

'That's impossible!' Sora thought. 'Me, Donald, and Goofy took her down in Hollow Bastion!'

"Well, well, well," The Mistress of all Evil sneered. "What have we here? If it isn't the wretched keyblade wielder and his lackeys."

"It was you!" Sora screamed. "You're the one that did this!" He, Donald, and Goofy charged at Maleficent.

Maleficent elegantly stepped to the side causing the trio to crash into a wall. "You'll have your fight with me in good time," She told them. "I promise you will be able to partake in my vengeance." She looked at Minnie. "Queen Minnie, as radiant as always," She mock bowed.

Levina and Lira stayed near Minnie ready to defend her and Daisy while Sora, Donald, and Goofy picked themselves up.

"I'm here on a property venture," Maleficent told them. "I want this castle for my own," She looked at the white, bright colors in the room. "However, it's a bit bright for my taste. I suppose I'll have to fill every room in this castle with my personal touch of darkness."

"You! – You better know what's good for you!" Minnie yelled.

"You heard the queen you witch!" Lira snarled. "Get out of here! Or we'll make you!"

"Ooh, how frightening," Maleficent smirked not scared at all by Lira's words. "But you see, the seeds were planted long ago. You can't stop them now. The roots have taken hold, deep beneath the foundation. To remove them you would have to destroy the castle." She then grinned. "The Cornerstone of Light will fall and this castle will be mine!"

"You won't get this castle!" Levina yelled at her.

"You know there's a way to stop these thorns!" Sora spat at her. "Tell us!"

"Foolish children," Maleficent scorned. "If you truly wish to know," She pointed to the dark corridor in which she came from. "Your queen was indeed correct about a certain someone being awakened from a deep sleep." She grinned getting Levina's attention.

'Does she mean Ven?' Levina thought tightly clinging to her wayfinder clasped around her neck.

"Perhaps you could endure or release them of their pain," Maleficent challenged. 'These poor little wielders of light fair no chance against him.' She thought.

Levina glared at the evil sorcerers. She remembered how Terra had told her, Aqua, and Ven that Maleficent forced him to take Princess Aurora's heart. "You can't trick us into doing anything for you!"

Maleficent cackled and disappeared in green flames.

Levina glared at dead air and looked at the dark corridor. She held onto her wayfinder not wanting to let go of it. There was definitely something or someone calling to her. She could feel it.

"Levina?" Sora called to her.

"Maleficent was right," Levina said. "There is something or someone in pain," She told him. Her heart skipped a beat. "I can feel it. They need our help."

"Gawrsh if whoever it is needs our help," Goofy said. "Maybe we should help them."

"Absolutely not!" Donald fumed.

"It could be a trap." Lira told them.

"Trap or not whoever is in great pain from the darkness needs our help," Minnie said to them. "The light will always find a way back into those hearts that have been poisoned by the darkness."

"Then let's go!" Sora told his friends and looked at Minnie. "Don't worry your highness! We'll put a stop to all this!"

Bravely they stepped into the dark corridor curious as to where Maleficent's corridor of darkness would lead them to.
