Chapter 21
April 19th 1976
Everyone was currently in the stands of Quidditch Pitch waiting for the Ravenclaw and Gryffindor teams to come out of their team rooms.
"Moony, what is taking them so long?" Vega looked at Remus.
"I have no idea, but since both teams aren't out yet, we shouldn't worry."
Eventually the teams came out, the captains shook hands and Madam Hooch threw the Quaffle up.
"GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO THE LAST MATCH OF THE YEAR! GRYFFINDOR VS RAVENCLAW. NOW AS THE LEADERBOARD STANDS SLYTHERIN IS IN FIRST PLACE WITH GRYFFINDOR IN SECOND, CAN GRYFFINDOR EARN ENOUGH POINTS TO STEAL THE LEAD FROM SLYTHERIN?"
There was cheers from all around the stadium, it seemed as though everyone wanted Gryffindor to take the lead over Slytherin.
"FERNELL BLOCKS A GOAL ATTEMPT FROM NICKELS. FERNELL PASSES TO BLACK. BLACK, POTTER AND MONROE ARE FLYING DOWN THE PITCH PASSING THE BALL BETWEEN THEM. POTTER TAKES A SHOT AGAINST THOMAS. CAN THOMAS SAVE IT? LOOKS LIKE A NO. POTTER SCORES"
10 minutes later the score was at 100-20 Gryffindor winning.
"MOONY. We might actually win this!" Vega was bouncing in her seat.
"WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MCKINNON AND BOWLS? THEY HAVENT SEPERATED ALL MATCH WHAT ARE THOSE TWO PLAYING AT? BLACK INTERCEPTS A PASS FROM GREGS AND SENDS IT ALONG TO MONROE. MONROE SCORES AGAN!"
"V, do you know what is going on McKinnon and Bowls?"
"I think it is to with making sure Gryffindor wins so Slytherin don't get the cup again" Remus just nodded and went back to the game
"THE SCORE IS SET AT 150 – 50 GRYFFINDOR IN THE LEAD. LOOK AT THAT MCKINNON HAS FINALLY TAKEN OFF WITH BOWLS ON HER HEELS. HAVE THEY SPOTTED THE SNITCH? YES I BELIEVE I CAN SEE THE GOLD BALL. MCKINNON'S HAND IS REACHING OUT. LOOK AT THIS BOWLS ISN'T EVEN TRYING. MCKINNON HAS CAUGHT THE SNITCH! GRYFFINDOR WINS THE MATCH AND GRYFFINDOR WINS THE QUIDDITCH CUP!"
"Come on Moony and Wormtail, we have to go" Vega grabbed Peter's arm and pulled him away.
"Right, the boys wanted us to go to Hogsmeade" Peter just muttered out while being pulled along.
The three of them went back into to the castle and snuck out to Hogsmeade buying butter beer from Three Broomsticks and endless amounts of sweets from Honeydukes.
When they arrived back to the common room the party was in full swing just waiting for them to come back with the supplies. They walked in began handing everything out. Vega spotted Marlene sitting on one of the chairs.
"Good game Mar" Vega sat down next to her.
"Thanks"
"You had that deal with Bowls didn't you?"
"Yeah, Bowls knew they weren't in for a chance at the Quidditch Cup and they would have rather us win then Slytherin, so we stayed together all match looking for the Snitch. I think Bowls may have even told Thomas to go easy on us"
"Do the boys know?"
"Of course not, they think they are amazing"
"Great, I now have to deal with a boyfriend with a big head and a brother as well, jee thanks Mar"
"No worries" Marlene just laughed at Vega.
Vega walked over to where the boys were sitting with a few bottles of butterbeer in front of them, she went and sat on Sirius' lap before softly pressing her lips against his.
"What were you and Marlene talking about babe?"
"Just the game, I congratulated her catching the snitch"
"Ah but did you see how well I played"
"Yes I did I'm very impressed with how well the dog can play Quidditch" Vega smirked at him as she patted his head and he growled at her.
"V I wouldn't say things like that"
"Why not Prongs? What is the dog going to do about it?" Castor shook his head at his sister, he knew her well enough to know she was baiting him.
"I can do a lot babe" Sirius nuzzled her neck while wrapping his arms around his waist trying to make her think he wasn't actually going to do anything.
When Vega relaxed against Sirius as he nipped at her neck before tickling her causing her to buck and scream against him before jumping up and running off but it only caused him to chase her.
"Are you sure you're alright with those two Mane?"
"I've got no idea Moony, she's happy incredibly happy even watching her now she is laughing and smiling with him chasing her. I guess I didn't realise how I would feel seeing them make out in the corners of the common room or even go up to our dorm and find them both in his bed"
"You're not worried about what he could do?"
"Like he did to all the other girls?" Remus nodded. "I am a little don't get me wrong but he was the one that was there for her after she found that McLaggen was cheating on her and he now knows the truth behind what happened last year"
"Since when?"
"Since that first date, she told him"
"I didn't know that, but it would be alright. He wouldn't do anything stupid to hurt her, look at him. He hates the mutt jokes that she always makes but yet he lets it slide with her because it makes her happy"
"What about when they fight?" James finally contributed to their conversation, he was too busy talking to Peter about something.
"Prongs has a point Moony, they've been good because they're in that sickening happy stage"
"Then we will worry about it then but for now let them be Mane, they're both happy and I thought you would be fine with this"
"I didn't think it would be like this though"
"It will be fine, we'll make sure of it" Castor didn't say anything as he looked over to where Sirius finally caught Vega.
Castor watched as Vega laughed before leaning into Sirius, he was grateful at how happy his sister was at the moment but he was worried when and if it would go sour.
The Marauders spent the night talking and drinking until McGonagall turned up and told them all to go bed and if they didn't she put everyone in detention.
"Paddy" Vega whined at the idea of going back to bed while Sirius frowned at her, he hated this new nickname she had come up with when drunk.
"It's time for bed V"
"Evans is right, go with her and she will put you to bed"
"But…"
"Mane will kill us both if you sleep in my bed, go to bed and I will see you in the morning" Sirius gave Vega a kiss before leaving her with Lily.
It was a few weeks before the fifth years sat their OWLs and the Marauders were currently sitting by the black lake studying. Vega was sitting in Sirius' lap with the astronomy text book in hers and she was going over what was important information to be on the exam.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" They all looked up and noticed Regulus Black, Leo Nott and Jackson Avery.
"What do you want Regulus?" Sirius put his arms around Vega's waist.
"Well I'm sure mother will be pleased to see you finally made progress with the Monroe girl.
"This has nothing to do with mother, I don't care what she has to say about this. She will not be making any decisions about this at all" Sirius pushed Vega off his lap and stood up so he was face to face with his brother.
"Oh but she will, she always does. But it is about time you started making amends for the disgrace you have put on this family"
"But that is where you are wrong, I'm not doing this to make amends. Once mother finds out what side the Monroe's are truly on, she will go back to thinking all my friends are blood traitors"
"Whatever, you're just lying to try and convince me not to tell mother about you two. Come on lets go" Regulus walked off, Nott and Avery followed.
The rest of the boys had gotten used to the fact that Regulus and Sirius usually only said words to each nothing, nothing ever resulted to hexes or punches being thrown between them. Nothing was said to Sirius but the rest had thought it was because they were brothers and it didn't matter how much they hated each other right now.
"I'm going to send an owl to mum and dad to let them know what happened. Hopefully Regulus didn't believe Padfoot" Castor walked towards the Owlery.
"Crap I'm sorry babe I didn't realise" Sirius looked over at Vega once Castor had left
"Its fine Pads, my parents knew that yours would find out the truth eventually"
"Will they be mad?"
"Well they may be mad that I hadn't told them we were dating but they won't be mad the truth came out, I think they might actually be grateful. They hated going to your parents' house for dinner"
"Yeah well at least they don't have to spend every holiday there" Sirius muttered before walking off in hopes of finding Castor and apologising to him.
"What am I missing? Normally he just mopes about the idea of going home for the holidays but he was angry then" Vega turned and faced the rest of the boys
"No idea, he won't tell us what it's like for him. Just that he hates it and his family hate him"
"I'm sure he's fine V" Remus walked over and put an arm around her noticing how worried she was.
The next day all the fifth year students were currently sitting outside their respective Head of House office waiting to go in and receive information on Career options.
"Vega Monroe" McGonagall appeared in her doorway. Vega got up and went inside and took a seat across from McGonagall.
"Hello Vega, do you have any idea's as to what you want to do for a career?"
"I was thinking a Healer, as much as I would like to help out in the war Defence seems to my weaker subject"
"Yes I've seen your marks, you will do well enough to continue on next year depending on how you do for your OWLs but compared to Potions and Charms it is much weaker. To be a Healer you will need NEWTs in Potions, Transfiguration, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts and Herbology. To be able to continue those subjects next year you will have to receive a minimum of Exceeds Expectations in all of those subjects. Looking at the marks you are currently receiving it looks as though you will be fine in receiving those, the only one of concern is Herbology. Your marks are on the border or Acceptable and Exceeds Expectation, just keep focusing and studying in Herbology and you should be fine Vega"
"Alright, thank you Professor McGonagall" Vega got up and followed McGonagall outside.
"Castor Monroe"
"Hello Castor. What would you like to do as a career?"
"I was thinking about being an Auror. I really want to be able to help out with this War and be able to look after my family."
"That seems like a reasonable response, most people seem to be trying to become an Auror lately but being what we are currently suffering from it doesn't seem like a bad idea. To become an Auror you need high marks in at least 5 NEWTs subjects. I would recommend taking up Transfiguration, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Potions and Herbology but it is not actually required."
"Thank you"
It went like this for the rest of the day. Sirius, James and Alice all want to become Aurors with Castor while Lily is going to become a Healer with Vega. Remus knew he wouldn't be able to get into either the Healer or Auror program so he found the Career session pointless. Peter was struggling with his classes and would have great difficulty getting into classes required for being a Healer or Auror so he was just to focus on his studies before deciding what he wanted to become.
