Chapter 21: Mates
As Shadow and Sonic were sleeping, they had another dream together about the prophecy and heard the voice again.
Sonic, Shadow. In order to fulfill the prophesy of the werewolf kings you must listen very closely, the voice said.
What is it? Sonic asked. Tell us.
"In two weeks is the night of the next Blood Moon but it is also the next Blue Moon. On that you must make an offering to the moon and it will bless you."
What kind of offering?
"You must make an offering by sacrificing a werewolf in your pack," the voice replied.
What? Shadow asked. But the pack is like our family! We can't kill one of our own!
"It is the only way to receive the moon's blessing. I will tell you more later."
They suddenly woke up. looking around they saw the others were still asleep
Who...who was that? Sonic asked the other Alpha.
I don't know, Shadow said, and shrugged.
The two Alpha wolves carefully stepped out to watch the sunrise and think about what they heard. Sonic saw the other wolves in their pack start to wake up. They yawned and saw the two Alphas, then barked to greet them.
Knuckles and Silver walked up.
What are we going to do now? Knuckles asked.
Well, we know there's another prophecy that we will become werewolf kings, Shadow said.
Sonic spoke up. One of the two prophecies will happen in two weeks on the night of the Blood Moon and the Blue Moon. That's when the final battle will be.
Silver nodded. What is the other prophecy?
That Manic will kill us and werewolves will become the dominant species on Earth.
We cannot let that happen, Silver told him. Do whatever you have to. If the prophecy about you two becoming the werewolf kings will help us win this war, that must be fulfilled.
Sonic and Shadow looked at each other nervously. They needed to tell them. There's a catch, Sonic said. We need to do something for it to work and we're not sure if we should.
What is it?
We have to sacrifice a werewolf from our pack to the moon to receive its power, Shadow said sadly.
Silver's eyes grew wide and he barked at them eagerly. That's what must be done? He asked. The two Alphas nodded and he sighed. If that is what it takes to fulfill the prophecy, then you must do it. One of the wolves here would gladly give their life for the greater good.
But we can't, Sonic said. We're family and I don't want to kill any of them.
Sonic...we must, Shadow told him. They will know why we are doing this. We have no choice; we must defeat Manic and this other prophecy could be they key to defeating him!
The blue Alpha looked at Shadow then at their entire pack who he knew wouldn't hesitate to give their lives to save the world. We have two weeks. Until then we must train, grow, and maximize your strength!
The wolves nodded, and raised their heads, letting out long howls. Sonic saw Sally walk inside the den and followed her. The Alpha lay down next to the female wolf and smiled.
I hope you're okay with this, he said. Sally nodded and licked his face. Sonic blushed. Sally...I know that our relationship has been rekindled, so I was wondering if...you would like to be my mate.
The female wolf looked surprised but smiled. Of course I will, she said. I love you.
Shadow, meanwhile, was talking with Maria.
It's so amazing to see how strong you are, she said. Ever since I met you, I've been having feelings for you, Shadow. I love you.
Shadow grinned. I love you too, Maria. Would you like to be my mate?
Maria nodded. Yes, I will.
Shadow grinned and walked back to the den with his new mate. He and Maria lay down together next to Sonic and his mate.
Looks like we both got mates, huh? Shadow grinned.
Sonic nodded and moved closer to Sally, licking her fur. She smiled and licked back. The Alpha wolf smiled at her. Sally, would you...like to have kids? He asked.
Sally looked at hm. Of course I would, Sonic!
I would too, Maria said to Shadow.
Shadow smiled. We can both have pups, he told the other Alpha.
Sonic sighed, curled up next to Sally, and the two began to mate. Shadow and Maria did the same. Other wolves wandered past but left them alone.
Knuckles just smiled when he saw them.
Once the wolves had finished mating, the two Alphas smiled at their respective mates and curled up next to them, knowing that they were going to have kids soon.
