Chp 21
Isabel was surprised to see Emrys home covered in blood and Stan was even more surprised, jumped at the sight of Emrys in red head to toe.
"Um, sheriff? What happened?", asked Stan.
"I had dinner, a little sloppy I know", said Emrys.
"Who did you kill?", asked Isabel.
"The Magister", said Emrys before locking himself in the bathroom. Isabel and Stan looked at each other.
Emrys looked at himself in the mirror. Slowly, he washed all the blood away. He took the shirt and jeans that was covered in blood, sprinkled some gunpowder and set it ablaze inside the cauldron. He saved the ashes in a vial and kept it in the trunk in his room.
Emrys walked to the library and sat down. Isabel and Stan were hesitant to enter, but they went in nonetheless.
"Sheriff, what happened?", asked Isabel.
"He was hurting Pam. He even gave me a hint, saying "You don't want to end up like your predecessors"", said Emrys.
"So, you're saying it's the AVL that hatched the plan to kill Elisabeth and Elsa?", asked Stan.
Emrys sighed. "I don't know, but I did meet Russell Edgington", he said.
"And? What did he say?", asked Stan.
Emrys shrugged. "Said I was charming, like my dad. We didn't talk that much", he said.
"Where was Eric?", asked Isabel.
"He was nearby and truth be told, he's not happy", said Emrys.
"You sucked The Magister dry, sheriff. I don't think anyone is happy about that", said Stan.
They could feel another presence of vampire and Emrys could tell it was his father, flying towards the compound. He dismissed Stan and Isabel, but the two of them stayed close. Eric barged in, fangs out and snarling.
"Do you realize what you have done?!", Eric yelled.
"I think I do", said Emrys.
"I don't think you do. Now, I have your mess to clean up", said Eric.
"I didn't ask you to do that", said Emrys.
"Yeah? You think you can handle all those AVL bullshit, my little mini me? Let see how you do it", said Eric, growling.
"Challenge accepted", said Emrys, as calm as he can be.
"If you weren't my son, my own flesh and blood, you'd already be dead", said Eric.
"Mother would've been disappointed to hear that", said Emrys. Eric punched the wall to let out his frustration.
"Do not bring your mother up in this discussion! She never raised you like this!", said Eric.
"Then, how did she raise me? I don't see you around that much when I was young! She certainly didn't raise me to not stand up for myself!", said Emrys.
"Emrys Godric Northman, for the last time, stay out of this", Eric's voice was low, but commanding.
"I will see my plan to the end, father. Whoever is hunting me, they'll die. Whoever murdered my mother and grandmother, subsequently caused the death of my grandfather, will die and I will not stop until I round them all up and kill them", said Emrys.
"Then you will do it alone and die alone", said Eric.
"So be it", said Emrys. Suddenly the ground started to shake a bit and the wind grew stronger. Eric looked at his son and retracted his fangs before leaving and the house became still once more. Stan and Isabel returned to the library.
"That was bad", Stan tried to diffuse the tension.
"I understand if the two of you want none of this. I won't ask you to participate in my plan", said Emrys.
"Are you serious, sheriff? If I let you go on without protection, Godric's ghost will haunt my ass for the rest of my eternity. I don't think I want that", said Stan.
"I lost three people I cared the most. I won't lose you just how I lost them. We're in", said Isabel. Suddenly, the alarm went off. Emrys looked at the screen and saw a couple SUV heading towards the house.
"AVL, lovely. Isabel, make sure you greet them with a smile", said Emrys.
Isabel opened the door before Nan could knock. "The Halfling had a vision of me coming to see him?", said Nan, sarcastically.
"CCTV, Miss Flanigan", said Isabel. She escorted Nan to the library as Emrys is lightly browsing his spell book.
"Concocting a plan, sheriff?", asked Nan as she sat down in front of him.
"Light reading, Miss Flanigan. How may I help you?", asked Emrys.
"What do you know about our missing Magister? Last known whereabout…, is the dump establishment your father owned", said Nan.
Emrys shrugged. "I do not know. Sad to hear about it though. I was here for the last few days. We're tracking down Steve Newlin remember?", said Emrys.
"When is the last time you spoke to your father?", she asked.
"A couple days ago, just to say hi", said Emrys with a smile.
"Do you have any witness to collaborate that you were here for the past week?", asked Nan.
"My underlings of course", said Emrys.
"Of course, you could've gone when they left for patrol or maybe…, leave a copy of yourself?", said Nan.
Emrys chuckled. "You really think what this book says is real, Miss Flanigan? Yes, I was here. They took turn to go patrol so I don't do stupid things on my own", said Emrys.
"You do know I can revoke your power any time I want, kid", said Nan, threating him.
"And you do well to remember that I am more powerful than you or my father or any other old ass vampires around", said Emrys.
"My, my, you sound cockier than Eric", said Nan.
"Well, apple didn't fall far from the tree, did it?", said Emrys.
Nan studied Emrys, who was smiling as if he knew something. "Fine, we'll be in touch. Until then…, don't skip town", she said. Nan got up and left.
Isabel and Stan re-entered the library as Emrys ran his fingers through his hair. "I swear to God, I will eat her if she's being rude again", said Emrys.
"What do you want us to do, sheriff?", asked Stan.
"Focus on Newlin first. Find out where he is", said Emrys.
