21: In the fields of hope
I don't own AT and it belongs to its rightful owners, anything else belongs to AENR13. Finally had time to work on the chapter! Anyways I haven't seen the new episode where Finn's dad has actually appeared in the original series, so when I heard about it I was so surprised, we all know I came up with this idea before the real series did. Moving on, I hope you enjoy the chapter!
Fionna hands her father a cup of water as she sits down in front of him, he smiles a bit as he sets down the cup down. He glances down at Ben who sits down on the floor in front of him. He reaches out for him when Ben makes a serious face, Seth laughs weakly as he notices Marshall watching him from the wall. His eyes don't peel away from him, Fionna rolls her eyes as she sees this. She sits down next to Seth,
"So what happened?" He sighs as he realizes by what she means
"I appreciate that you let me live with you and given me my space, I suppose I should at least tell you. I lived in the desert all my life along with your mother, her and I came from a small village; I enjoyed living there because there wasn't much conflicts unlike the other villages in the jungles and anything along those lines, your mother and I were 28 when she gave birth to you. Her name was Diana and she had the most beautiful eyes and long brown hair, I was really hoping that you would get that from her but it seems that you didn't. Anyways it was about a week after you were born when it happened. You see, human flesh was something that many wanted, if you didn't want a Nightmare to consume your flesh, you'd offer a sacrifice, no one didn't want any of the Nightmares to consume them or creatures in their domain. Our village was attacked off guard, I tried to keep them out of the house I realized it, they killed your mother and took you with them. I tried to find you before they left the desert, but the people that stole you from me, were a witchcraft tribe. I spent many years trying to find you, but as the years dragged on, the likely hood of me finding you," he presses his fingers against his tear glands trying to calm down, he swallows and continues, "The village that I lived in, slowly my people started dying off, the village leader gave me his powers to use the elements to my favor. I went across the lands and seas," he gulps on the word "sea" meaning he has hydrophobia of the ocean just like Fionna. "To see if there was still anything, of the humans, or anything that would re-spark my hope of finding you, when I heard last year that the last human passed away in the war. Since technically, humans do not posses supernatural powers, I in theory am not a human," he rises, pushes up his sleeve, showing a swirling scar on his arm, referring to how he managed to get supernatural abilities. "I lost all hope. Now, 19 years later, I run into you, my son-in-law, and lastly my grandchild. Something that I'm grateful for, because never did I think that I'd have this family." Fionna catches him off guard by hugging him,
She cries as he hugs her back, "I love you Daddy," he cries too just hugging her harder. He looks down, he's greeted by Ben's big blue eyes looking right into his. Marshall lingers back, just unsure of what to do, he figures that he should leave them to themselves, the door opens, Jacob peaks his head in, motions Marshall over. Marshall silently floats his way out, Fionna sees him, she mouths to him that she loves him, he does the same closing the door behind him.
They pull away as they sit down, just to know each other better, a father and daughter relationship doesn't get anywhere unless if they work on it. Seth smiles at his daughter, "So tell me Fionna, how did you and your husband met?" she smiles as Ben crawls into her lap, he plays with her Blood Gem as it dangles around her neck,
"Marshall and I met when my sister, a cat named Cake, and I moved into this tree house, he acclaimed that the house was his so he kicked us out," she chuckles a bit, "Anyways after he let us stay in his tree house, we were friends throughout the years; he had his own life," she gazes out of the window, the sky being painted with the sun's last dying rays before night fall; "And I had mine, it wasn't until last year when he saved my life; at first I thought that what I was feeling was just gratitude towards him, but he invited me to go to a ball with him in the Nightosphere, with him the King of the Vampires, I felt honored. Later that night," she smiles as she places her fingers on her lips, "He kissed me," he smiles along with her, she shakes her head still smiling though, "After that, we became inseparable," she looks down at Ben, "We got married after the Nightmare War, and had Ben soon after," she kisses his head wrapping her arms around him, "He's just the light of my day, now with Marshall and I able to go out in the sun, I can't wait to take him out. He's always cooped inside buildings doing the day, I want to take him out to enjoy the sun; back when I first turned into a Vampire, it was hard, the little things weren't there, I longed the sun for so long." her voice drops a bit, then she gets an idea, "Hey Dad," he watches her with full attention, she grabs his hand, "Tomorrow all four of us should go outside." he smiles
"I'd like that, anything to recover lost time, if your mother saw us now..." his voice breaks as tears run down the side of his face. He coils away but lets Fionna to hug him,
"I know," she and him just stay there in silence while Ben just looks at them confused. Marshall lingers outside the door, his back pressed up against the wall. He struggles holding his tears back, after realizing that his father was "alive" he understands all too well, plus after having his own child, it's something that made him soft. He pushes himself off, heads down the hallway, and flies out of the window.
Sorry for such a short chapter! I was on the verge of tears as I was writing this, writing while listening to the soundtracks from the anime/manga Clannad is too much... Anyways I hope that you didn't get attacked with the "feels" so leave your reviews! :D
