"Naru when you bite your lip like that your body has a funny reaction. So please don't do it..."
"Like what?" I ask.
"Your uhm friend here get semi-hard..." She blushes.
"Oh, I see."
"Yea. Bad Naru..." She glares. "Let's go to the clients house." I simply nod before finishing my tea.
Chapter 21
Mai
I let Naru drive even though I am in his body I can't drive at all.
"Geez babe you are super short!" He grumbles from the drivers seat.
I glare at him. Yeah he looked like he was squished up against the steering wheel in order to reach the pedals but there was no need to comment on my height.
"You need to learn how to drive while you are in my body Mai." He glares at the road.
"I don't think it's something I'm willing to learn." I tell him.
"Yea well too damn bad you are going to learn."
"I am not." I insist.
"You are and that is final! Do not argue with a pregnant person!"
I glare at him. He pulls up to the clients home. The front door immediately swings open. A woman around the age of 25 steps out of the house looking frantic and holding a crying baby. Me and Naru jump out of the car immediately and we go up to the client.
"Are you the people from the psychic company?" She asks.
"Yes, Mrs...?" I begin.
"Clarke, Ashley Clarke." She said in a desperate tone.
"Okay Mrs. Clarke. Calm down we are here to help you." Naru says in a soothing and compassionate tone. She nods as she clutches her baby.
"May I?" Naru smiles and gestures towards the baby.
"Oh, sure." She hands the little bundle in her arms to him.
"What is her name?" He ask smiling down at the baby girl in his arms.
"Alex." She grins.
"Beautiful name for a beautiful little girl." He says smiling. "I'm having a baby too...I want to name him after my husbands brother. Eugene Davis.." He says eyes starting to tear up as the baby falls asleep. "What do you say to that name honey? Does Eugene sound good?"
I smile and nod knowing how much that would mean to him.
"Thanks sweetie." He smiles.
I turn into business mode. "Mrs. Clarke what are the things that happen here?"
She bites her lip nervously.
"Mrs. Clarke you must tell us everything that happens so we can help you." I tell her.
"You'd better come inside first."
"Yes ma'am." We follow her into the house.
She leads us to a living room where a man is waiting.
"You must be Mr. Clarke." I said to the frantic looking man of whom looks to be at least 28. Even for his young age his blonde hair has some gray and so does his facial hair as well. His wide eyes were a hazel color. He has an average build but he looks like he hasn't slept in weeks.
"Honey, these are the people from the psychic place." Mrs Clarke explains.
"Oh thank God!" He exclaims. "I hope you will be able to help us! You are the only ones we could turn to!"
"We will try our best Sir." I say.
"Thank you! Thank you so much Mr. Davis!" He says.
"You're welcome. Now what has been going on here?" I ask. He gestures for us to take a seat. Both of us sit down and wait for him to begin. Naru sat carefully since he was still holding a sleeping baby. It seems we will have a tough time separating them.
Naru you have to let her go soon. I warn him before turning my attention to the clients as Mr. Clarke started to explain.
"You see Mr. Davis, we have to have Alex sleep in our room every night if we even step in her room she will cry and throw a tantrum. Sometimes in her room all her toys will be lined in a circle with one toy laying in the middle. It is a porcelain doll. When we give her a bath one of our small mirror will move itself in front of her face and she would stop breathing at times like that so we had thrown almost all of our mirrors out."
"That's terrible." Naru said as he clutched the baby a little tighter.
Oliver James Davis... I warn.
"Do you mind showing us her room? Your wife can stay here with my wife and the baby."
"Of course. Please, come this way." He gestured.
Oliver, give the baby to her mother. Now. Or else I will tattoo your body having it say 'I'm a dick' across your forehead. I said getting up following Mr. Clarke.
Naru scowled at me.
Love you honey. I said before stopping in my tracks as we walk into Alex's room.
"So much evil in here..." I whisper scared.
"Evil? I knew the clown pictures were a bit too much."
"It's not that...the presence...so evil..." I said wide eyed. Mr Clarke frowned.
"Don't worry we are still with the case but I must call the rest of my team in as soon as possible. From what I can tell this...presence want your child's soul..."
The man before me turned pale at my words.
"We will take care of this. For now let us return to our wives." I said trying to calm my nerves before going back to Naru.
He briefly nodded before turning and leading the way back to the living room.
I take a deep breath before sitting next to Naru. "Mai? Sweetheart?"
He turns his gaze to me.
You still didn't give the baby back yet? I chuckle lowly trying to hide my fear. But I failed as always.
Mai, what's wrong?
N-Nothing. Everything...Everything is just fine. I stammer.
He frowns at me as it's obvious everything isn't fine.
I will explain later. The husband was freaked out when mentioned it and I don't want the wife like that.
Naru nodded and continued to snuggle the baby.
"Uhm, Mrs. Davis?" Mrs. Clarke tapped on my body's shoulder causing Naru to look up.
"What?" Naru asked.
"Can I have my daughter back now?"
"Oh...uh...yeah..." He said as he handed the baby back.
"Thank you Mrs. Davis."
"Please call me Mai." He says with a smile.
I could see the sadness and disappointment in his eyes though.
Naru just wait 8 more months and you can hold our baby.
But I want one now...
I know but life doesn't work that way.
Naru pouts a little.
You have to call the others again after I tell you what happened...what I felt in that baby's room...
Naru looked really worried by my words.
I'll talk about it later with you.
He nodded slightly.
"We will need a place to set up base and sleeping quarters for our staff of course me and my wife are going to sleep in the same room so we only need 3 rooms. My wife and I can stay in the baby's room so we can take care of some things in there. Do you have guest bedrooms?" I ask attentively.
The couple nodded.
I smiled sweetly. "Mr and Mrs. Clarke we will rid this house of the spirit. I swear it."
The pair looked relieved to hear pair looked relieved to hear that.
"But the baby mustn't leave the entity will follow."
A look of fear crossed their faces.
"It's okay one of our spiritualists will make charms for everyone. It will make her presence invisible to the entity for a little while."
"O-okay..." Mrs Clarke said.
"Naru? I don't feel well..." Naru says to me looking a bit sick.
"Mrs Clarke, may my wife use your bathroom?" I ask.
"Oh my yes of course!" She hands Alex to her husband jumping up taking Naru to the bathroom. This is then followed by the sound of him throwing up.
"Morning sickness?" Mr. Clarke states. I nod.
I excuse myself for a moment to call the others instead of having Naru do it.
By the time I get back Naru has returned from the bathroom.
I sit next to him and I hug him. "Is everything okay?"
He nods and hugs me back.
"Okay Mrs. Clarke, Mr. Clarke-" I began.
"Please call me Ashley." Mrs. Clarke says.
"And please call me James." Mr. Clarke smiles at us.
"Okay Ashley and James, our team will be here in about 10 minutes. Now if you'll excuse me, may I speak to my wife alone?"
They both nod and leave the room.
"It was bad Naru. Very, very bad. Her room was like a portal to the other side to a demonic realm a terrible place...I was so scared..." I said trembling.
Naru frowned.
"I want to help this family Naru."
He slowly nodded.
"Naru I never should have told them that we were sleeping in the daughter's room..."
"Why?" He asks.
"It wants the babies..."
Naru's hands immediately flew to his stomach.
"I will protect both of the babies and you. I swear it on my life Naru." I hug him tightly in comfort.
"I'm scared Mai." Naru admits.
"I know honey. I know I am too." I soothe. "But I promise I will not let anyone or anything hurt you or the baby." I murmur in his ear. We both place our hands on his stomach.
"Mr. Davis!" Ashley screams from the bathroom.
I ask Naru to stay where he is before I run towards where the scream came from.
I rush into the bathroom and I see Ashley on the floor crying as her husband is performing CPR on Alex.
"Please call an ambulance Ashley." I said calmly to her trying to send out calming vibe to calm her nerves. "I will stay here and help James with Alex."
"What happened?" I ask.
"We were giving her a bath and we didn't notice the mirror floating towards her face until it was too late. She stopped breathing this happened before but never this long!"
I nodded.
"Please help us save her!" He yelled.
I took over the CPR immediately, hoping my psychic powers would help a little. After a few minutes they paid off. Alex starts crying and her skin turn back to her normal color.
James breathes a sigh of relief and pats my shoulder in thanks. I smile and cradle the baby in my arms. Ashley runs back into the room with the phone in her hands.
I look at her. "She is okay. But to make sure I need them here for safety measures." She nods and relays the information to the person on the phone.
She hangs up after she replies 'thank you.' She holds out her hands for her baby.
"Here you go Ashley." I give her the baby. She cuddles her close.
"I must get back to my wife now." I say standing up. "We must keep an eye on you guys too."
"We'll follow after you." James replies as he wraps an arm around his own wife.
I smile and walk back to the living room where Naru is. "Mai? Mai? Are you alright?" I walk over to Naru's side.
Naru! Wake up! I yell in his head. He jerks awake.
"Oh thank God!" I cry out hugging him. "You looked like you weren't breathing! I was afraid!" I cry even though it sounds weird coming from his body.
"I...no, I was asleep."
"I'm sorry I woke you baby. I was just really scared."
"Why, what happened?" He asks.
"Alex. She almost died."
Naru went pale.
"I thought the entity got you too." My vision gets blurry as tears form again.
"No I'm okay, everything's fine."
"I'm glad Naru. I'm really glad that you are okay." I give him a kiss on the forehead before hearing a car and an ambulance pull up. Then there were rushing footsteps. The paramedics rush in followed by the rest of our team. They look on as the paramedics examine the baby.
Ayako explains to the paramedics that she is a doctor and then she tells them to leave some equipment here just in case anything happens again.
I walk over to the others with Naru. "We are dealing with an entity who steals babies souls." I explain briefly. "Okay so I want Monk and John bless the house. Now." I demand wrapping my arm around Naru's waist. They nod and immediately go to do as they were told.
I sit next to Naru. "Masako you shouldn't be here...I know you are pregnant...just like Mai..."
She blinked. "How...?"
I shrug. "I don't know I just feel it."
She frowned slightly.
"Did I say something wrong?"
Masako shook her head. "I'm just worried about Mai and myself if that is the case."
"That is why I wanted you to leave here but I feel it knows you're pregnant now and it wants your baby too."
"What do we do?" She asked.
"Stick with your boyfriend and I'll stick with my wife." I look at Naru who fell asleep in my arms. She nods in agreement.
"I will do everything to protect Mai..." I murmur to myself more than to her. She gently pats me on the shoulder.
"I can't lose them Masako..."
"I know you can't."
"I volunteered for her and I to sleep in the baby's room. That's where the worst activity is..." I said tears falling. "I was stupid and an idiot for doing that..."
"No, you were concerned."
"I put Mai and our baby in danger!"
"Everything will be okay."
"I don't know if it will Ms. Hara..." I murmur looking down at Naru sleeping in my arms.
She again squeezed my shoulder.
I notice john and Monk are back.
'Did you finish what I asked you to do?"
They both nodded and John went over to Masako.
"Have you felt anything here sweetie?" He asked her.
"A dark presence but nothing more than that." She replied.
"John, I suddenly feel tired make sure no harm comes to my wife..." I said nodding off.
The last I saw was John solemnly nodding.
I look around and notice I am in the dream realm. The sky is no longer it's deep shade of peaceful purple it's now a deep blood red color and the ground is the same -if not a darker- shade of red.
I stand in my place frozen in pure fear.
"G-Gene?" I say a little frightened because it feels dark in this dream realm. "Are...Are you here?"
He steps out of some shadows.
"Gene..." I start walking towards him but I stop when I see the dark, evil, and malicious intent in his usually kind eyes. I backed away.
"Is something wrong?" He smirks evilly. I swallowed and shook my head as I continued to back away.
I trip and I fall flat on my bum. "Gene! Snap out of it! Please!"
He continues to advance on me.
What do I do?! I yell in my head panicked looking around for some sort of solution. Then I see it. A knife. I don't want to harm Gene but it appears I have no choice. I grab the knife and I get ready to stab him in his side. I continue to slide backwards away from him anyway though.
"Gene..." I whimper. "I am so sorry..." When he gets closer I stab him in the side. Oddly he barely flinches.
"Please someone wake me up!" I start crying. I also start to panic.
All of a sudden everything goes black and I am suddenly awoken.
"-aru! Naru!" It was Monk.
"Where's Mai?" I said panicked.
"She's fine." He said as he pointed to Naru drinking tea in a chair a little way away.
"Mai!" I yell getting up and hugging Naru.
Mai? Baby what's wrong? He asked in my head.
It was so horrible... I tell him.
What was honey?
He'd turned evil. I share with him mentally.
Who did Mai? He asked rubbing my back.
Gene. I sobbed.
It was just a nightmare Mai... He sound upset.
How do you know? I could swear it was real and one of those dreams.
While I was sleeping I was talking to him the entire time.
I blinked.
Baby you just had a nightmare that's all. He makes me look at him he gives me a reassuring kiss. I nod even though I still feel confused.
"Naru?" I hear from me hind Naru so I look up.
"Yes?" I answer.
"Are you okay?" John asks.
"Yes, I am." I reply.
He nods in acknowledgement.
Naru I am still scared... I said placing my hands on his stomach. I am scared for Little Gene. And the Gene in my dream...
He placed his hands over mine.
"I love you." I tell him.
"I love you too." He replied.
"Naru? Mai? I set up some stuff even though it was without your permission I put cameras in the baby's room, and the parents room with their permission of course, and including our rooms as well." Lin stated. We nodded in acknowledgement.
"Thanks Lin." Naru smiles.
God having manners when speaking to him is aggravating! I still hate him and myself for what happened a few weeks ago...
I secretly patted his back.
Lin nods and walks outside to the van where the monitors are hooked up since the house isn't big enough for the shelves and equipment. I hold Naru closer.
We can do this case if we all work together and we can protect those we love and cherish. I just hope we can do it before someone gets seriously hurt or worse...dead.
