Avery sat out on her front porch in the swing with Mike. "I'm glad you came here." She said as they sat there.
"Me too. So, dad let you out of the house?"
She laughed. "Well, it's just the front porch and he has stalled cameras now."
"That means if I were to kiss you right now, he'd be able to see it?"
"Probably." She smiled. "But that shouldn't stop you." He smiled back and leaned in and kissed her.
"It's still hard to believe this is all over." He said when he pulled away.
"I know but I'm glad it is. Now maybe things can get back to normal."
"I hope so. And I have something for you." He said as he pulled the box out of his pocket.
She smiled as she took it. "What is it?" She asked him before opening it.
"It's a surprise. So open it." She smiled and opened the box. "I did ask you to marry me a little while back and I wanted to...make it official. This ring has been in my family for generations and I want you to be the one to wear it for the rest of our lives."
She smiled and kissed him. "It's beautiful." She said softly.
"I'm glad you like it." He said taking it and getting down on one knee. "Avery Hart, will you do me the honor of being my wife and spending your life with me?"
"Yes. But you have to talk to my dad first. Get his permission."
"Your dad's permission?" He said to her.
"Yep."
"Alright." He replied. "I will ask." She smiled as they walked into the house. They walked toward the office and knocked on the door.
"Yes." Bret said when they walked in.
"Mr. Hart, I wanted to talk to you about something."
"Well sit down and lets talk."
Mike nodded and sat down across from Bret. "I just wanted you to know that I really love your daughter. And I wanted your permission to marry her. I want to spend my life with her."
"You want to marry my baby?"
"Yes sir. I do." Mike said to him. "I love her and I know she's the one."
"Then you have my permission. When do you plan on doing this?"
"I was thinking soon. I know we are still in high school. But I don't really want to wait."
"Give me three months. In that time I can help you find a house and get you settled. It'll give her time to plan the wedding of her dreams."
Avery smiled and hugged her dad. "I love you dad." She said as she did.
"I love you too baby. Now, you have a wedding to plan." He said turning to Mike. "And you make sure you take care of my daughter."
"You can count on it sir."
"Good. Then Avery you plan the wedding and Mike, you and I will see about where you guys are going to live." Bret replied. "In fact, if you want, I think Avery's grandparents' house is empty." He looked at his daughter. "You always loved that house."
"Do you mean it Daddy?"
"Yeah. I mean it could use some fixing up but I'm sure Mike wouldn't mind helping with that."
"Not at all." Mike replied.
Avery smiled at them both. "Gran's house is amazing. I have loved since I was a child. I can't think of anywhere else I would want to live."
"Then Mike, your cousins, uncles and I will work and get it all fixed up for you two and that'll be your wedding present."
"Great." She smiled. She turned to Mike. "We're getting married."
He smiled and kissed her. "We're getting married. I want you to have the wedding you have always wanted. So, take as much time as you want to plan the wedding." She smiled and nodded.
"So, daddy let you out of the house huh?" John said as he and Kate sat in the coffee shop.
"He did but have you seen my new guards?" She said pointing to the two very large men sitting at the next table. "I have those two and two more outside."
"So your dad is concerned. I know when we have our kids, I'll be overprotective of them too."
She looked at him. "You think about having kids with me?"
"Of course. I think about a life with you." John replied. "And despite what my friends thought, it has nothing to do with the fact that you're the Mayor's daughter or that you have money. I love you for you."
She smiled and kissed him. "I know that. I know you aren't with me for those reasons. You love me and I love you. And I can't think of anything more I want than to have a life with you."
"Then we should do it. I mean we're both 18. We should get married."
She looked at him. "You want to get married now?"
"Yeah. We can just go to city hall and do it."
"You know my dad would be at city hall and probably try to stop us." She said to him.
"Then I will ask his permission." John said to her. "So, you want to marry me right?"
"Of course I want to marry you. I just never pictured it would be right now"
"Kate, I don't see a reason to wait. We want to be married. We're 18. I love you."
She smiled and kissed him. "I love you too. Let's do it. Let's get married."
He grabbed her hand and they headed out with the guards close behind. Once they were outside the two guards there stopped them. "Where are you going Ms. Lawler?"
"I'm going to city hall to get married." She replied to him. "So, can you drive us?"
"I think we need to ask your father about that."
"We're going to city hall where my dad is. We can ask him then."
"Fine. Get in the car." She smiled as she and John got into the back of the Range Rover and the guards got in front. They were soon on their way to city hall.
They pulled up to the building and the guards opened the door and let John and Kate out. "We will see the Mayor first." The guard said to her.
"Fine let's go." She smiled and they walked in.
"John, Kate... What are you doing here?" Jerry asked when he looked up from his desk.
"Well, daddy." Kate said sweetly. "John asked me to marry me and I said yes. And we want to get married now."
"You want to what?"
"We want to get married." Kate repeated.
John looked at Jerry. "Sir, I love your daughter and I want to marry her. Now."
"Are you pregnant? Is that why you need to get married now?" Jerry asked her.
"Oh Good God no!"
"Then what's the rush?" He asked her. "You both are only 18. You have your whole life to get married."
"Daddy, I don't want to wait. Look at how much has happen recently. Tomorrow isn't promised and you have to make the most of everyday. And I don't want to wait to be married to John."
He looked at John. "You take good care of my baby."
"You're agreeing to this?" John asked him.
Jerry looked at his daughter and then at John. "I want my daughter happy and its obvious that you make her happy. So, if you both are certain about this, then you have my blessing." He walked over to Kate. "I love you, Katie. And I just want you happy and protected. Even when you marry John, I will keep my guards on you. You're my only daughter and I will always take care you and protect you."
She smiled at him. "I know that daddy."
"Alright. So did you guys want me to marry you right now? Because you know I have the authority to do so."
"You'd do that for us?"
"Of course. If this is something you really want and you've thought this through."
"We have to everything." She replied.
"Alright. Then go get rings and the marriage license and I will marry you."
She hugged him. "Thank you Daddy."
"You're very welcome, baby. Now go do what you need to do. Oh and if you want witnesses that aren't bodyguards, you should call them."
Both John and Kate nodded and headed out to do what they needed too. She couldn't believe that soon she would be married. She was beyond excited.
