Jack and Elizabeth sat back down, and they were both quiet for several minutes. Until Jack broke the silence.
"Elizabeth?" Jack spoke up, taking Elizabeth's hand in his.
"Yes, Jack?"
"I've been thinking. Maybe we should tell everyone about...well...us. Rosemary is getting a little too...comfortable...with being here. Maybe if we told everyone, then Rosemary would leave us alone."
Elizabeth paused for a moment, hoping that jack would understand what she was bout to say.
"Jack, I really care about use, but, I don't think we are quite ready yet to tell anyone." Elizabeth looked at him, hoping he would understand.
"All I want is for you to be happy, and I think we can wait a little longer."
Elizabeth kissed Jack's cheek, she was happy he understood.
Jack smiled as he stood up. He was still holding Elizabeth's hand, and Elizabeth stood up, knowing what Jack was planning. As the music played, Jack put his hands around Elizabeth as they slow danced to the music. Jack leaned in a bit, putting his head near Elizabeth's.
Abigail was going downstairs to tell Elizabeth she was going to go to sleep. But, she heard music playing, and then saw Jack and Elizabeth, dancing.
"They are so cute together." Thought Abigail. "No wonder Elizabeth thinks so much about Jack." she added as she watched them enjoy their slow dance.
The next morning, Jack stepped out of the jail. He was looking over the town, when a shout came from the direction of the mines.
"Constable!"
Jack looked in that direction and noticed that Mr. Palmer was running down the road.
"Mr. Palmer, is something wrong?"
"Yeah. One of the mine shafts caved in and trapped some of the men."
Jack didn't waste any time in jumping on Dreamer. As Jack and Dreamer stayed at a steady canter, Mr. Palmer ran alongside them.
"We don't know what happened, all of a sudden the shaft started shaking, and I left to see what was happening, and then the shaft fell down. I think Mr. Gowen has something to do with it, because I got out before it fell, and I saw him walking back to his office to hide that anything happened!" Mr. Palmer said as they went to the mines.
"That sounds like Mr. Gowen. I just want to get to the miners in time."Jack said with a nod.
Both Elizabeth and Jaclyn had noticed Jack riding out of town, towards the mines. They stepped outside the cafe, and Elizabeth voiced her thoughts.
"I really hope he'll be alright. I don't trust Mr. Gowen."
"I don't trust him either, and I'm worried too. But I'm sure Uncle Jack will be fine!" Jaclyn said, giving Elizabeth a hug.
When they arrived at the mines, Jack got off Dreamer, and went inside cautiously. He didn't feel the ground shaking, so hopefully Mr. Gowen was not going to do any more trouble. Then, Jack saw the pile of rocks, dirt, and coal.
"Constable?" Jack heard faintly from the other side.
"It's alright, I'm here. We will get you out as soon as we can."
Mr. Palmer and Jack started moving rocks aside, and digging dirt out of the way. They put the few coal pieces in a pile that had fallen, and finally reached the miners.
A few of the miners that weren't hurt too bad helped remove their side of the mess, when Jack and Mr. Palmer did the front of the pile.
Jack took a deep breath, and asked,"How many of you are hurt?"
"Almost all of us, but only a couple are hurt worse than others. We had to remove a shaft beam off of one of the men's legs, but we don't think it is broken, but it does hurt."
"Probably a sprain, or a bruise. We need to get these miners to town." Jack said turning towards Mr. Palmer.
"Yes,sir, Constable." Mr. Palmer replied.
It wasn't long before Elizabeth and Jaclyn saw the injured miner coming into town. They both gasped when they saw Dewitt Graves come into town with a gash on his leg. Mr. Palmer was helping him along. Sometimes they saw two or three of the less injured miners helping some of the more injured miners along.
Elizabeth began to worry about Jack as the miners walked into town. But, all her worries vanished when she saw Jack ride in on Dreamer, with nothing more than dirt and dust darkening his usually bright red serge. Jack dismounted and walked over to where Elizabeth and Jaclyn were standing.
Jack sighed, "The miners are thinking that Mr. Gowen caused that shaft to cave in on them. The evidence sure is convincing."
"Well, hopefully Judge Black gets back soon and we can get the trial over with." Elizabeth said.
Nicole: Wow! Mr. Gowen seems to have some sort of vendetta against the miners. O.o Is Gowen trying to get himself in trouble?!
Sabrina: I have no idea, but I knew from the start Mr. Gowen was a trouble maker! Please R&R! See ya Saturday!
