Why I thought traveling with my brothers would be fun I can't for the life of me remember. They never let me really help with anything and when I did they were just bossy and over protective. The motel rooms we stayed in were gross and smelly and I should know since most of the time I was stuck in them doing school work. When I wasn't stuck in the motel room I was stuck in the back of the Impala with Dean blasting the same 6 cassettes and Sam complaining the entire time. But that was all normal things I had grown up with all my life the worst part of all of this though was that Dean and Sam were so obviously hiding something from me. From the outside you wouldn't be able to tell they seemed liked normal brothers laughing, joking, and pissing each other off. But I could see the subtle differences; The bags under Sammy's eyes, Dean asking him if he was ok one to many times a week, the not so secret knowing looks they would share when I asked how suddenly Sam knew a piece of information that was impossible to know. Something was going on, something that they were working very hard to keep me from finding out. Of course I bugged them relentlessly about it, both kept to their guns though swearing I was making something out of nothing but I knew better.
"Dean," I said from the bed I was laying on waiting for Sam to get out of the bathroom so we could go grab dinner.
"What?" Dean answered from the other bed where he was tying his shoes.
"I'm bored." I whined with a smirk on my face, with nothing to do I had taken to annoying Dean as my new favorite way to pass the time.
"Hi bored, I'm annoyed and sort fused older brother." He grumbled shooting me a look.
"You're so cranky when you're hungry." I said sticking my tongue out at him. Dean chose to ignore this instead turning towards the bathroom door.
"Sam, come on, zip it up. Let's hit the..." Before he could finish his sentence Sam came out of the bathroom he was pale and clearly shaken up. "..What?" Dean asked.
"I had another one." Sam said sitting down next to Dean putting his head in his hands.
"Another what?" I asked confused and worried about my brother.
"What was it about?" Dean asked but Sam just shook his head clearly not wanting to discuss it at that moment.
"What was what about?" I asked all but stomping my foot. They both looked at me like they had just realized I was still standing there.
"Mia, go grab dinner." Dean said.
"No."
"What?"
"I'm not going to go run so random errand so that you two can talk about what's wrong with Sam keeping me out of the loop." I said crossing my arms across my chest. Sam and Dean shared a look and I could tell they were talking without using words.
"I have visions." Sam said tearing his eyes away from Dean and turning to me.
"Huh?" I asked confused.
"I see things before they happen."
"Like what kind of stuff?" I asked getting a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.
"Stuff like Jess's death days before it happened." He said, I leaned against the wall in shock. Dean could tell this conversation was going downhill quick because he stepped in.
"What did you see Sam?" As Sam told him about his vision my head was whirling with little pieces of the puzzle that seemed to be put into place now.
"Mia!" I heard Dean say loudly making me look up at him I was shocked to see Sam wasn't in the room. "You with us?" Dean asked with a raised eyebrow.
"How long have you known?"
"What?"
"How long have you know about Sammy having visions." I asked looking at him with a glare, he sighed.
"Awhile."
"And it never accrued to you to let me know about it."
"When?"
"What?"
"When would I have told you? While you were doing drugs at school? After dad died? While you were detoxing? When exactly would you have been the best time to say hey Mia Sam has some power?" He said glaring at me.
"You still should have told me." I said before heading out the door to the car with Sam. Dean fallowed a minute later slamming the door as he got in and peeling out of the drive way. I threw my head phones on and refused to speak to either of my brothers, immature I know but I was angry at them and ignoring them was better than risking giving Dean an attitude when he was in a mood. Dean drove all night and we reached the Road House by noon the next day Dean turned to me before we got out of the car.
"Are you going to ring in your attitude before we go in here?" He asked give me a look.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I said getting out of the car and heading towards the front door not waiting for Dean or Sam. I stormed into the Road House and sat down at the bar, I looked over to see that my brothers had fallowed me in and Dean right away started flirting with Jo while Sam flew pass everyone in search of Ash.
"I know that face all too well." Ellen said taking a seat next to me. "What's bothering you?"
"Stupid over protective, secret keeping older brothers." I mumbled turning towards her, I saw she had a big smile on her face.
"You sound just like Joana except with her it was stupid over protective, secret keeping mom." She laughed making me smile a little.
"We should talk we can trade pity stories." I said trying to keep my bad mood but unfortunately I liked Ellen too much.
"You two should I'm sure she would like that." She laughed getting up and going around the bar. "You want a soda sweet heart?" She asked.
"Yes please." A few after Dean and Sam came back from Ash's room Sam sat at the bar with me Dean went over to I could only assume flirt with Jo. Sam bumped me with his shoulder and I turned to glare at him.
"What?" I asked.
"What, what?" He asked looking at me innocently. "I didn't say anything." I rolled my eyes at him and turned back to my soda he soon bumped into my shoulder again.
"Dude!" I said turning towards him again he laughed at how annoyed I was getting.
"You done being mad at me yet?"
"No."
"Come on Mia we were…"
"If you say you were just trying to protect me I'm going to start swinging." I interrupted him sliding off my bar stool.
"Ellen mind if I use one of your cots in the back?" I asked coming around the bar.
"Of course not." She said looking over at Sam "I'll keep your brothers at bay." She whispered making me smile again. I walked towards the back room and stopped in my tracks, Dean and Jo were on one of the cots in various stages of undress.
"Oh for the love of God!" I said not waiting for either of them to say anything I pivoted and left the way I came.
"Hey what happened?" Ellen asked but I ignored her heading for the front door.
"Mia!" I heard Sam call out to me but I ignored him as I left the Road House and headed for the Impala. Just my luck though it was locked so I hoisted myself on top of the hood and laid back looking up at the sky. About 20 minutes later I heard someone walking towards me I didn't bother to turn my head. I had wrapped my arms around my self it was chilly and I was only in a t-shirt. I knew it was Dean who had come after me when I felt a heavy leather jacket thrown over me, he then climbed up on the Impala with me laying back.
"I like her, Mia." He said suddenly I huffed out a laugh. "No Mia, I mean I really like her."
"How could you know that you talked to her twice, and one doesn't count because you were already half in her." I said turning my head towards him.
"One gross dude, don't talk like that and two I have been talking to her every day since we left here."
"Really when?" I asked sitting up surprised.
"When you were too busy making out with Caleb to notice." He said giving me a look.
"One day you're long lost child is going to come and find you." I said sliding off of the hood.
"God I hope not could you imagine me a dad." I gave him an are you crazy look. "What?" He asked,
"Dean you already are a dad." I said shaking my head.
"Come again?"
"Dean you have been my dad since I was 2." I said looking at the ground we had a stick no chick flick moments rule and this was getting dangerously close to one.
"Exactly look how you turned out." He laughed and I stuck my tongue out at him as he threw an arm around my shoulder. "Come on Mia May lets go see if Ash has anything yet." I had to smile nothing was fixed clearly Dean and Sam had still hidden things from me but I couldn't stay mad at Dean never been able to.
When we walked in Sam, Ash, and were huddled around his computer while Jo was at the jukebox REO Speedwagon "Can't Fight This Feeling" starts playing and I nod my head along with the song as Dean teases her about it.
"Give me 15 minutes." I hear Ash say as he walks away with his computer. Ellen pulls Dean aside talking with her hands waving around I watched with a smirk on my face as Dean face turned red and the ash white.
"Hey Mia?" I heard Jo say from behind me.
"Hey." I said with a smile barley turning my head away from Ellen and Dean.
"Enjoying the show?" Jo asked with a chuckle.
"You have no idea how much." I laughed finally turning my entire attention to her.
"Listen about earlier… I'm sorry you saw it."
"Yeah me to." I said but I smiled at her. "I think my eye balls almost burned out of my head." We shared a laugh and she seemed to relax a little.
"Do you really like him?" I asked her after a few.
"Yeah I think I do… Is that ok?" I could see her looking at me out of my side vision.
"Did you know I threatened to kill Dean's first girlfriend he brought home?" I asked moving to a table and sitting down Jo fallowed.
"Really?" She asked looking a little scared, I nodded my head.
"I was 10 me and Sam came home from the park early why I don't even remember now. We walk into the house dad had rented and there was Dean with some blond Barbie on his lap. You could tell that she was not happy we interrupted their make out session. Dean of course pushed her off his lap right away and came over to make sure we were ok, anyway I don't remember how or why the two of us ended up alone in a room but I looked her straight in the eye and told her I knew how to use the shot gun by the front door and that I was a dam good shot. She freaked out and told Dean what I said before leaving the house." I laughed and Jo laughed with me. "I hope if this becomes something you two make each other happy." I said honestly she smiled in appreciation. "And Jo," I said as she started getting up from the table. "I'm still a dam good shot." I said with a cocky smile on my face. She nodded her head in understanding and got up to help Ellen.
"Didn't I already spank you once for scaring a girlfriend of mine by saying that?" Dean said from behind me making me jump.
"Good lord I'm going to put a bell on you!" I said shaking off the startle he gave me. He just raised an eye brow at me and crossed his arms across his chest. "So she you girlfriend now?" I asked smirking at him.
"Well, I mean, no, I, I don't know." Dean stumbled over his words.
"Yeah that's what I thought." I said running away from him.
"Brat." He mumbled and chased after me. Sam came out from Ash's room.
"Ash has found something." He said as I came racing towards him hugging him around the waste he looked down confused but wrapped his arms around me.
"Are you done being mad or are you using me as a shield?" He asked with a smile.
"Both." I said as Dean caught up to me.
"Gigantore can only protect you for so long Mia May." He said before getting serious. "We know we're heading?" Sam nodded. "Let's get riding then." He said walking over to Jo.
"I'll call you later." He said leaning down to kiss her while me and Sam made gagging sounds behind him.
"You're both so screwed when we leave." He mumbled and kissed her again.
"I could help." Jo said when they finally came up for air.
"I'm sure you could. But we've got to handle this one ourselves. Besides, if I ran off with you I think your mother might kill me." Dean said gulping at the affirmative noise Ellen made from behind the bar.
"You're afraid of my mother?" Jo asked with a chuckle.
"I think so." He said pecking her one more time and then walking away leaving me and Sam to hurry after him.
As we drove Dean started humming something the tune sounded familiar and I was trying to figure it out when he out right busted out with the words.
"And even as I wander, I'm keeping you in sight
you're a candle in the window on a cold dark winter night
and I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might..." Dean sang off key and gruffly.
"You're kidding, right?" Sam asked looking over at him worried for is sanity.
"I heard the song somewhere, I can't get it out of my head," Dean tried to cover up.
"It's the song you girlfriend was playing." I said in a sing song voice.
"Keep pushing Mia, I'm going to kick your ass." He said glaring at me threw the review mirror.
"Bring it on lover boy." I said before leaning forward and placing me head on Sam's shoulder to see what he was looking at. "Whatcha doin Sammy?" I asked.
"Looking over the case that we should all be concentrating on." He said giving Dean a pointed look.
"Your right Sam what you got?" He asked. For the rest of the trip Dean and Sam talked about the case I tried to keep up and throw in my thoughts but I eventually fell asleep. We stopped by a diner the guy we were looking for Andy use to work at, but the waitress there said she hadn't seen him in a awhile.
"Look, if you want to find him, try Orchard Street. Just look for a van with a barbarian queen painted on the side." She said finally I think she was starting to get annoyed at our questioning.
"Barbarian queen?" Dean asked with a little more excitement then should have been in his voice.
"She's riding a polar bear. It's kind of hard to miss." She said before walking away. We finished our food and went to stake out Orchard Street.
"I'm sorry, I'm starting to like this dude. That van is sweet." Dean said making me roll my eyes.
"You are so cheesy." I said turning to Sam for support but he wasn't paying attention he was staring off into space with a look on his face.
"What?" Dean asked looking at Sam's face as well.
"Nothing." Sam said.
"Sam, you look like you're sucking on a lemon, what's going on?" Dean pushed.
"This Andrew Gallagher, he's the second guy like this we've found, Dean. Demon came to them when they were kids, now they're killing people."
"Second?" I asked but both ignored me.
"We don't know what Andrew Gallagher is, all right? He could be innocent." Dean said
"My visions haven't been wrong yet."
"What's your point?" Dean asked getting clearly annoyed.
"My point is, I'm one of them." Sam said turning towards him. I sat back in shock could Sam really think he was like Andy?
"No, you're not." Dean growled out.
"Dean, the demon said he had plans for me and children like me." I bit my tongue form asking what he meant now was not the time to draw attention to myself. "Maybe this is his plan; maybe we're all a bunch of psychic freaks, maybe we're all supposed to be…"
"What, killers?" Dean said and I gasped a little but quickly cover my mouth what the hell was going on, I thought as Sam nodded his head. "So the demon wants you out there killing with your minds, is that it? Come on, give me a break. You're not a murderer, Sam! You don't have it in your bones."
"No? Last I checked, I kill all kinds of things." Sam shot back at Dean.
"Those things were asking for it. There's a difference." Thankfully at that moment Andy walked out of a building in his pajamas. He walks down the street stopping to talk to a man who gives Andy his coffee and walks off. A little farther down he stops again to talk to an older man shaking his hand and looking generally pleased to see him.
"That's him. That older guy, that's him, that's the shooter." Sam said hand already on the door handle.
"All right, you keep on him, we'll stick with Andy." Dean said as Sam jumps out of the car and starts casually walking in the way of the shooter.
Dean started the car and pulled out behind Andy as he and his van pulled away.
"You ok back there?" Dean asked checking me out threw the review mirror.
"Peachy." I said with my head resting on the window.
"Mia," He said making me look at him.
"You know Sammy going to be fine right?" He asked me I nodded my head but didn't really mean it. "I'm not going to let anything happen to him I promise." He said which made me feel a little better as childish as it was I did believe Dean could do anything save us from anything, I mean he's Dean freaken Winchester if he can't save you no one can. Suddenly Andy pulls over and starts towards us,
"Mia." Dean said warningly.
"I got it." I said grabbing a knife from my boot and slipping it into the back of my pants as Andy comes to the door.
"Hey." Andy said leaning into the car catching mine and Dean's eyes "This is a cheery ride."
"Yeah, thanks." Dean said.
"Can I have it?" Andy asked.
"Yeah." Dean said getting out of the car I was about to ask him what the hell he doing till Andy looks at me. "Everything is fine just get out of the car." He said and he sounded pretty reasonable to me so I did. We watched Andy drive off it took till he pulled out of sight for us to snap back to reality.
"Did he just."
"Oh my god! My car." Dean said and I could hear the panic in his voice.
"Dean call Sammy." I said trying to keep him from having a panic attack. As Sam and Dean talked I started walking towards the van looking for a clue on how that guy had full on mind tricked us. I was almost to the Van when Dean called out to me.
"Mia Christine what the hell do you think you're doing!" He yelled making me pause in my tracks. I turn around but he looking shocked still on the phone with Sam. "We'll be right there." Dean said before pocketing his phone.
"Come on Mia Dr. Jennings just got hit by a bus." He said as we take off running towards the street Sammy is on. I left Dean sitting with Sam while I went in search of the Impala, I sent a thank you to the car gods when I found it safe and with the keys in it I then drove it back to Sam and Dean.
"Thank god! Oh. I'm sorry, baby. I'll never leave you again. Well, at least he left the keys in it." Dean said as he circled the keys looking for any imperfections. I got into the back of the Impala while Dean and Sam discussed what should be done next.
"We'll just look for his van it's not an easy thing to hide." Dean said as he slid into the driver seat and Sam into the passenger. Sam turned around and looked at me curiously.
"You ok kiddo?" He asked
"I'm fine." I said not turning my head from scanning outside looking for Andy's van.
"You don't look ok." Sam said trying to get me to talk.
"You ain't so great to look at either." I said making Dean laugh and Sam roll his eyes but it got him to leave me alone. We found Andy's van in an ally empty searching didn't help any other then to make Dean more convinced Andy wasn't the killer.
"Do you have a man crush on him or something?" I asked sitting on the roof of the Impala finishing a bag of chips.
"What No!" Dean said flustered. "I just don't get the killer sense off him.
"Well what now?" I asked jumping off the roof and throwing away my trash.
"We keep fallowing him wait for him to strike again." Sam said with a shrug of his shoulders.
"More time in the car with you two? As fun as that sounds will you bring me back to the motel room please." I asked. They both stopped in their tracks and stared at me.
"What?" I asked after a few minutes.
"You feeling ok Mia May?" Dean asked coming over and feeling my forehead.
"I'm fine get off of me!" I said pushing his hand away.
"Kiddo you have never wanted out of a hunt before." Sam said worried.
"I'm just not in my head today I want to lay down."
"Are you pregnant?" Dean asked.
"What!" I yelled
"Dean!" exclaimed at the same time.
"It's just a question." Dean said shrugging.
"Ugh please just take me back." I said getting into the back of the Impala. When we got to the motel Sam walked in with me claiming he had to use the bathroom. When he came out I was laying on my bed curled on my side he came and sat next to me.
"Hey kiddo." He said rubbing my back. "Does this have anything to do with everything you heard in the car about my powers?" He asked quietly.
"You're going to be ok right Sammy?" I asked rolling over and looking at him tears that I didn't know I had been fighting back came pouring down my cheeks.
"When this hunt is over we will sit down and I will tell you everything, I'm sorry our argument in the car was how you found out all the details." Sam said hugging me. "I will be just fine kiddo, I have to be otherwise who would keep you and Dean from ripping each other heads off?" He asked making me laugh. At that moment Dean honked the horn impatiently, Sam rolled his eyes.
"Rest will be back soon, call us if you need anything." He said leaning down and kissing the top of my head before he headed out the door.
I waited about twenty minutes to make sure that they were actually gone and then headed into my backpack pulling out dad's journal. I started looking threw it trying to find any information he had on Sammy's powers, there was nothing. After an hour of checking and rechecking in there I turned to the internet. Another hour past and I still came up with nothing, my eyes drifted towards dad's journal again. I was sure that dad knew something about Sam but it wasn't like I could call him… Or could I. When I was younger dad's journal fascinated me and I took every chance I could to get my hands on it. I had once found a summoning spell that had fascinated me. Supposedly when done right it was able to summon a ghost from the dead for a short period of time. I looked at it so much at one point I practically had it memorized I of course never had a reason nor the guts to cast the summoning, but now if I could do it while the boys were gone I could ask dad and maybe get the answers we all been searching for. I sat for a few thinking about this; Dean would murder me if he found out, If not done properly I could end up something much worse than my dad, if it worked properly I would be summoning a very upset John Winchester with a spell I was forbidden to touch. It was funny that I could still be scared of upsetting my dad even though he wasn't with us anymore, I knew all these things but still I found myself opening the journal and flipping to the warn familiar page. I had to take this chance for Sammy, and Dean and me I had to try.
