ENGLAND'S GREATEST ERA

CHAPTER 21

Annabeth paced in her room, her nerves getting the best of her. The duke and his entourage had arrived a few hours ago and were sent to another wing of the castle, far away from Annabeth. The young princess tried to calm herself, telling herself that everything will be fine in the end. Before her snarky subconscious could get a word in, Annabeth decided to get out of her room and walk the palace grounds. She tiptoed out of her room and shut the door, carefully. The young girl walked through the castle, not caring where she went. She didn't care where she ended up. A few servants passed by her and they all bowed. Annabeth nodded her head absent-mindedly. Her mind was working overtime, finding a way to fix the mess.

Just as she was turning the corner, Annabeth bumped into someone. She stumbled backwards, about to fall but a hand shot out and caught hers. The warm calloused hand helped her regain her footing. Annabeth looked up into aqua blue eyes. He also had blonde hair. The man had no resemblance to Percy so it couldn't have been the duke. He wore fancy clothing so unless the servants are rich, he couldn't be a servant. So, it could possibly be his son. "My lady, I am quite sorry," the man apologized.

"It's quite alright," Annabeth said, smoothing down her dress. "You stopped me from falling."

"But I was the one who caused you to stumble and almost fall in the first place," he said, looking into her grey eyes.

"Might I ask who you are?" Annabeth asked. The young man scratched the back of his neck.

"I'm Triton, the duke's son," he said, bowing. "And you must be Princess Annabeth, the one I'm supposed to marry."

Annabeth almost cringed at the word. So this was Triton. He seemed awfully nice and was a gentleman. He was also quite handsome. Probably a trait that Percy and Triton inherited from their father. Annabeth knew that they were not supposed to meet before the ball but this wasn't really a meet. It was a 'run into' thing. "What are you doing in this part of the castle?" Annabeth asked, pretending to be suspicious. Triton gave her a sheepish smile.

"I was exploring it," he said like a kid caught with a hand on a plate of crumpets. "I did tell my father about it. I have a fondness for adventure."

"Or, you could just be exploring it to find my room," Annabeth teased him. Triton let out a nervous laugh.

"That was a small part of the reason," Triton admitted. Annabeth tilted her head to the side.

"Well, seeing that we somehow ran into each other-," Annabeth started to say.

"-and weren't supposed to meet till the ball," Triton continued for her. "Why don't we walk together? Unless, you have somewhere to be, princess." Annabeth shook her head.

"No," she answered. "Let's walk."

Annabeth felt completely at ease when talking to Triton. He was a laid back guy. They both shared their thoughts on how being upperclass seemed to them. Annabeth finally felt relieved that someone understood how she felt. They also shared some embarrassing stories about themselves. Unknowingly, they were making their way to the balcony.

And then, I decided that I had enough so I just threw the pie at her and it hit her in the face," Triton said before guffawing loudly. He was sharing a story about his class with an old lady on manners. Annabeth giggled, feeling amused. She soon realized that they were heading towards the balcony and almost stopped at the sight of Percy standing there, his back towards them. Percy turned around when he heard their laughing. Triton noticed him.

"Hello there," he said, friendly towards Percy who was glaring at how close he was to Annabeth. "I'm Triton, the duke's son." He held out a hand and Percy clasped it.

"Percy Jackson," Percy said. "Annabeth's childhood friend." Annabeth felt like Percy was going to say something else. She could see that he was tense. He probably stood out there to clear his mind or something. Annabeth felt bad that while she was laughing with Triton, she left Percy to do the thinking alone. She should have been thinking about a way to get them out of their situation. She was in the mix too. As Annabeth was beating herself up over these thoughts, Percy blurted out something that probably wasn't supposed to be said.

"And I'm your brother." Triton went rigid.

"Brother?" he questioned, suspiciously. Percy looked at him defiantly.

"Yes," he answered, confident. "I am also Poseidon's son." Annabeth gulped. This wasn't how it was meant to go.

A/N:

A lot of you wanted me to keep posting here, so I will. I just wanted to say that I love the support you give me and I was crazy to think that I could leave the people that I have befriended here.

In return, I will focus on ending this story first because it is almost finished.

By the way, I have a Wattpad account. It is : mischievouslittleowl.

Find me there to read my original story. I just posted the prologue. Here's a sneak peak :

" The demons have declared war upon the three kingdoms," Aquarius explained. " The peace treaty hadn't gone well. We need you in our forces. As the prince, you should be leading our army into war alongside our father."

Poseidon looked at his brother, regret etched on his face. "I'm afraid I'll have to decline. I cannot lead the army."

Aquarius glared at Poseidon. The lake's water started to churn, responding to his anger. " You would rather trade the lives of your royal subjects for a mortal. A mere mortal! How could you? How dare you!" Aquarius scowled at his brother. "How selfish could you get?"

Poseidon remained unaffected by his brother's words. "Do not forget, Aquarius," he said. "You are my brother. Therefore, you have as much right in leading the army. You were always the better prince between the both of us. Why don't you lead them then?"

Aquarius frowned. "First of all, you are the next heir to the throne," he answered. "Secondly, father has favored you. I will be leading the back up forces." There was a hint of jealousy in his voice. Poseidon recalled the sibling rivalry they had. Aquarius would do his best and be the better prince but their father always had a soft spot for Poseidon.

"But I can't!" Poseidon protested. His jaw was set and there was a determined look in his eyes. "I cannot abandon my wife and child."

Aquarius's eyes widened. "You sired a child with a mortal woman?" He crossed his arms and looked at Poseidon with an incredulous stare. "Have you gone mad?"

Poseidon regarded him carefully. "Yes," he answered, truthfully. "I couldn't kill her because one look at her and anyone will fall completely in love with her."

Suddenly, the sound of a snapped twig echoed in the silent forest. The two brothers stopped talking, their heads whipping towards the source. Aquarius's eyebrows furrowed. "We need to part ways," he said, suddenly anxious. "It is not safe to talk anymore." He looked at Poseidon. "My offer still stands. Your family— your real family—will always welcome you home. With that, Aquarius dived into the lake.

Poseidon wasted no time in getting himself out of there. He drove his Volkswagen out of the forest and onto the empty highway. If someone had been spying on them, his daughter was in grave danger. Poseidon's hands gripped the steering wheel so hard at the thought of someone harming his daughter that his knuckles turned white. He stomped down on the accelerator and his car sped across the highway, heading towards a town near north.

It is not about Percy Jackson. The title of the story is called Crashing Waves and it can be found on my wattpad account.
