Maura was the first to wake the next morning, she fully remembered what had happened the night before and vaguely remembered waking up around 3 AM and putting on clothes as it was a little chilly. She rolled onto her back, unable to move anymore because Jane's arm was firmly planted around her midsection, a smile graced her lips.
Jane was sound asleep, unruly hair all over the place, Maura couldn't help the giggle that escaped her throat and caused Jane to stir slightly. The doctor moved a curl out of Jane's face and just admired the detectives face.
Maura is very well traveled, she's been to some of the most exotic places, met all kinds of people from all over the world, but in this moment, she could not think of a single person who was more beautiful than Jane Rizzoli. Jane was very much a woman, there was no doubt about it, but she had a handsome quality to her. Maura didn't know it was possible to be both beautiful and handsome at the same time. Most people equated being beautiful with women and handsome with men, but there was Jane, handsomely beautiful, beautifully handsome. Even her voice, oh how Maura loved that voice, it had the gravelly nature of most men but when the time called for it, that voice was soft and loving. Maura even loved Jane's scars, she hated all of the reasons she had them, especially the self inflicted ones, but they made Jane who she was. She lay there, surveying her lover's body, mostly uncovered as Jane wore her usual sports bra and running shorts to bed.
She started at Jane's feet, she reminded herself to talk Jane into getting a pedicure when she saw how warn the feet looked, presumably from long work days and those awful boots. Next, Maura raked her eyes up Jane's ridiculously long, toned, legs. Maura dreamed of those legs many times. Then she got to the scars on the thighs, some fresh, some old. Maura's heart broke; she wasn't there for Jane in her time of need. She wasn't there when Jane needed her most.
Wiping a stray tear from her cheek, Maura continue up to Jane's abs. Those abs had been in Maura's dreams as well. Maura had remembered pressing lightly on those abs after Jane's encounter with Detective Marino, looking at that particular scar, she'd noticed it had faded almost completely. Maura then remembered the scar on Jane's back that accompanied this one, she winced at the memory of that day. It wasn't the first time she'd almost lost Jane, and it surely wasn't going to be the last.
Next, hazel eyes wandered up to Jane's breasts. Maura had admired Jane's breasts before, they weren't large but they were enough to be noticed even with Jane's semi-baggy button down blouses at work. The doctor had to stop herself from reaching a hand out and palming the breast, she knew Jane needed her sleep.
Strong arms and shoulders is what came into view next. Maura had known that those arms were capable of great harm, she'd seen as much when she watched Jane interrogate witnesses and suspects at work. But now, Maura knew those arms were also capable of great love. Actually, she had always known but now she had experienced it first hand and she was awestruck. It baffled her how those hands that had fired a gun numerous times, killed a man, and threw plenty of people around rooms and against walls, could also be so soft and loving. It seemed like some sort of paradox.
Finally, Maura's eyes traveled up that squared jaw, over chiseled cheek bones, and finally locked onto the most gorgeous brown eyes she had ever seen.
"Oh my God!" Maura place a hand over her heart, surprised to see Jane awake. "How long have you been awake?"
Jane chuckled, "Since the second I felt your eyes burning holes through my abs."
"I-uh… Um… Good morning?" Maura spoke with a smile.
"Creep." Jane laughed as she stretched the sleep from her body, "What time is it?"
Maura turned her head to check the alarm clock on her bedside table and was shocked to see it read 11:27, "It's almost 11:30. I can't remember the last time I slept this late."
"It feels good though, right?"
"I don't know how I feel. Almost half the day is gone." Maura looked worried.
"Maur, it's fine. We can get up and shower and all that and we'll go shoppin'."
"You want to go shopping?"
"If it will stop you from freakin' out cause you slept past 6 am, yes, I will go shoppin'."
Maura let out a squeal that Jane thought might puncture her ear drums, and those of every dog in a 3 mile radius, planted a quick kiss on the detective's forehead, and ran for the bathroom.
"Are you coming, Jane?"
"God help me." Jane sighed with a smirk on her face before following her girlfriend into the bathroom.
