Brightpaw shuffled her paws, anxious. Her sister would be here any moment; WindClan was pouring in like water in a stream, weaving in and out to chat before regrouping as a solified unit to continue on their way through the clearing.

Well. Her other sister, at least. Swiftpaw. Robinpaw was sitting at her side, small but mighty and looking quite bored. How wasn't she nervous? At all? She hadn't even bothered to clean her fur before coming. What was up with that? Was she not concerned by passing toms?

The subject matter's eyes slid over to her, ice blue eyes half closed.

"For StarClan's sake, chill." She started, "Being nervous isn't going to help you in any way." She paused to nip at a passing Clanmate as they purposely stepped on her tail, "Even if she has changed, so what? You'll live."

Brightpaw bristled at the tortiseshell's comment. How dare she? "Says the filthy ShadowClan cat who's covered in dirt with burrs and thorns stuck in her fur"

That clearly had struck a nerve. Her sister closed her eyes slowly before standing, shaking out her pelt and showering the white-and-ginger apprentice with stray fur and dirt.

"This is why you have no friends, Brightpaw"

And with that she walked away, towards a small crowd of mixed-Clan apprentices and leaving her alone among other cats.

Why would her sister do that? And say things like that? What a stuck-up-

A brown blur slammed into her before she could finish the thought, startling her for a moment into thinking she was being attacked….until she heard the familiar laughter and hurriedly looked up to see a very familiar face smiling down on her.

"You still remember me, right?" Swiftpaw asked quickly, concern on the edge of unnoticeable in her words. Oh Swiftpaw, you nervous, bristely mess you. She'd kinda missed her.

As she backed off, Brightpaw studied her fluffy younger sister. She really hadn't changed much. Sure, she was a barely mouse-tail bigger, and her eyes had changed into a darker shade of amber than they had been before. They were really pretty, she had almost bet they'd attract a handsome tom or two before he walked up behind the brown-and-white she cat.

A tom truly worth the handsome title, in her mind. He was absolutely gorgeous, with his dark, sinister markings and chestnut fur color and StarClan, his blue-green eyes. His smile was dazzling as well. She was honestly surprised he wasn't taken.

And there was his littermate, of course. The small, unruly one. Swiftpaw could keep him for all she cared.

But the other was hers.

All hers. She'd finally found a fish in this giant lake of cats who actually deserved her, and she wasn't about to let him slip out of her claws.

"Of course I remember you, it's only been a moon since we've seen each other. You're my sister, after all" She mewed smoothly, working up to ask about the tom. If she said the right things, she would be that much closer to being introduced.

Her attempt did not go to waste as the silver tabby bumped Swiftpaw's shoulder with his head, causing her to startle and remember that her sister hasn't met them yet. Seriously, what a mouse-brain sometimes, that cat

The brown-and-white apprentice swung her tail up to gesture to him, starting with "This is Blizzardpaw," and then switching to gesture to the other, "And this is-"

The smaller WindClan tom forcefully nudged Swiftpaw out of the way to continue for her, a cute little smile lighting his face. "-Is Jadepaw~"

The cat in question's tail puffed slightly, and while Brightpaw's littermate sighed he shoved Blizzardpaw roughly to the side, face twisted in an odd expression.

"….Blizzard, Jade, this is my oldest sister-"

"Brightpaw" she cut in quickly, curling her tail and sneaking in a small purr. "Its nice to finally meet you, Jadepaw."

Jadepaw, to match his dazzling eyes. She studied him closely to see if she could read him. He definitely looked embarrassed, a tad nervous, maybe excited to meet her, and-wait uncomfortable? Why would that be? His tail was twitching, and he kept throwing glances at his brother-oh. She hadn't mentioned Blizzardpaw at all, had she? Fins and fur, she was a mess. One glance at him told her all she needed to know.

Realizing her mistake she hurried to add "-And you too, Blizzardpaw" before the small cat could look anymore discouraged than he already appeared to be.

But Swiftpaw was having none of that. She reassuringly draped her tail across his back, moving her paw to line up with his while he pasted on a faulty smile to hide his disappointment.

Wait.

Swiftpaw? An affectionate gesture?

Brightpaw narrowed her eyes in playful suspicion.

How close were these three? Did Swiftpaw have a crush? If so it was on the wrong tom but whate-

"Swiftpaw"

Brightpaw flinched. Robinpaw was back already?

Sure enough the newly nominated ShadowClan apprentice was standing proud only fox-lengths away, welcoming Swiftpaw. Or at least, as welcoming as she could be. To anyone really.

Swiftpaw turned to touch noses with her middle sister, purring. "Its good to see you" she meowed happily "When I only saw Brightpaw I thought the worst. How's ShadowClan?"

Robinpaw considered that, pausing to lick at her ginger-splotched chest.

"Not bad. Feel as if I'm among the cats I was supposed to be around. Meant to be around."

Now that ticked Brightpaw off. What in StarClan's name-how could she do that? How could the tortoiseshell be so rude to her, but act like nothing happened with Swiftpaw when she's right there too?

"Oh wow, isn't that probably the most insightful or intelligent thing you'll ever hear our dear sister say."

Silence fell among the apprentices.

Cats continued to hustle around them, murmuring and meowing and playing and catching up on recent events across Clans.

Robinpaw's claws unsheathed into the grass, tail beginning to lash in unbridled annoyance.

"Fuck you, Brightass"

?

Anger at her momentarily forgotten, Brightpaw tilted her head to the side.

Jadepaw smirked, but Blizzardpaw looked just as confused as she was.

"...What do those words mean?" He asked innocently, eyes large. He drew his paw away from Swiftpaw's to catch himself from falling when a large RiverClan cat shoved roughly past him.

That made the ShadowClan cat pause. "I… am not sure. The kittypets at the Twoleg den near our camp say them to the dogs when they come over sometimes."

Oh. That didn't really explain much. Was it supposed to be an insult?

She stole a glance at Swiftpaw, but she just shrugged her shoulders. Guess she didn't know either.

"Cats of all Clans!" rang through the clearing as Bramblestar jumped into a branch halfway up the center tree.

The Gathering had begun.
