Chapter 21
.
FRIDAY NIGHT A WEEK AGO…
He'd followed Elliot all night and went unnoticed; he was no amateur at when it came to stalking prey, three tours in a war zone had taught him well and he knew exactly how to remain invisible, absolutely stealth until he made his move.
Suddenly, the target appeared, walking out of the ultra fancy building he lived in, the same building from which his baby sister jumped to her death… he would make this right for her; her suffering would not be in vain. Again, he began to follow the prey. When the time was right, he would reveal himself.
He followed him to another building, this one a lot less fancy than the one they'd just left. Elliot was inside for a little over an hour and when he finally emerged, it was obvious that he was pissed off at someone, the rage was unmistakable. He watched his as he looked down at his hand; his knuckles were a bloody mess. Dominic hoped that no one had been injured but unfortunately, he couldn't stop to investigate, his target was getting into a cab and that meant that he had to move as well.
From where they just left, they ended up at a dive bar where Elliot spent a couple of hours. Finally, just after 1am, he came walking out appearing tipsy but definitely not drunk. He didn't try to hail a cab this time, instead he began walking toward the river stopping to lean over the balustrade and look out at the water. He saw him smile and shake his head before he yelled to the sky:
"These stupid fucking bitches…THEY'RE RUINING MY LIFE!" and the he proceeded to slam his foot into a garbage can, knocking it over "You should all follow Mairym's lead and fucking die!" he continued screaming, that's when he felt the cold steel to the back of his head.
"How about just you?" Dominic's voice was low and full of pain.
"What the fuck is this, I'm getting robbed by a goddamn crackhead?!" Elliot complained
"Turn around" Dominic ordered "Slow. Now get on your knees"
"Oh I get it, a queer crackhead! Look, I'm not suckin your dick!"
"That's not why we're here."
"You wanna enlighten me?"
"You killed my sister" Dominic was calm as he spoke.
"Who the fuck's your sister?"
"The wife you just buried"
"You we're responsible for that…I should be holding you at gunpoint!" Elliot said.
"That all you have to say?"
"Look, I didn't kill your sister, alright? I wasn't even there when she took the ledge"
"But you drove her to it, it's no different than you throwing her off. She's dead and you're responsible"
"Hey buddy…"
"No, you don't get to talk your way out of this. A life for a life, you took hers and now I take yours to pay for it!" Dominic said as he cocked the gun and pressed the tip against Elliot's forehead.
"So that's it?" he wouldn't show it but he was absolutely gripped by fear right now as he looked at the man who would end his life right here, this night.
"Last words?"
"They won't matter." Elliot said and closed his eyes, seeing Olivia walking down the aisle on their wedding day six years ago. She had just reached the altar and smiled her beautiful smile at him when the gun sounded and everything went black.

BRIDAL BOUTIQUE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
Casey, Alex and Olivia had just finished with their final fittings and had gotten dressed on their own clothes…
"Liv, you're going to look amazing on Saturday!" Casey said
"Aww, Thanks Case."
"You nervous?" Alex asked
"A little. But it probably won't kick in full throttle until…" she stopped as something ran through her mind
"Liv?" Casey called
"I'm sorry." Olivia apologized, snapping out of her reverie.
"You ok?"
"Yeah, just remembering some last minute details before we leave for Connecticut tonight."
"Well, I need to get home, Travis is back from his trip tonight and…I'll see you guys Friday." Casey smiled, hugging and kissing both her friends before she left."
"It's good to see her happy these days" Olivia smiled
"She deserves it." So, my husband and your fiancé have the kids which means I'm in no rush. Wanna go have a drink?" Alex asked
"I could use one" Olivia said as they left the boutique.
...
"Man, I could hang out with these little guys all day!" Trevor mused as he and Brian walked through the park and he carried a cooing Liam on his shoulder while Brian pushed the double stroller that held Connor who was sleeping. As they continued walking, an elderly couple came walking in the opposite direction and the old woman stopped and smiled.
"My goodness! You two are an absolutely beautiful couple!" she marveled. Brian looked down, grinning.
"Howard, aren't they a beautiful family?" She called to her husband
"Whaaat?" Howard replied; he was hard of hearing.
"I SAID AREN'T THEY A BEAUTIFUL COUPLE?" She yelled.
"Actually ma'am we're not-" Trevor began but Brian grabbed his hand and kissed it.
"Thank you" he said to the old woman. "This gorgeous hunk of man…he's the love of my life!" he said while looking at Trevor and smiling, the two of them trying hard to stifle their laughter. "Aside from our babies of course!"
"Oh god bless you both!" she cried happily as she and Howard went on their way.
"I hate you" Trevor said as he and Brian kept walking, Brian nearly keeling over from laughing so hard!
.
OLIVIA'S HOME
Trevor still hadn't gotten home yet by the time Olivia had come through the door, she could tell because there was a small manila envelope on the floor that had been put through the mail slot. She picked it up and shut the door then put her purse down on the table in the entryway and went toward the kitchen with the envelope in her hand.
Once inside, she went to the fridge for a bottle of water, unscrewing it as she looked at the envelope where she had placed it on the counter. It was probably delivered by a messenger she supposed as she took a long drink from the water bottle before putting it down and picking up the envelope, letting herself lean over the countertop as she opened it and removed a letter from inside. It was from Marvin.
Ms. Benson,
I forgot to give you something yesterday, something that Elliot was very adamant that you have.
S. K. Marvin Esquire
She put the letter aside and again reached into the envelope, retrieving a smaller one from it and shook her head, remembering that this was exactly how she'd received the signed divorce papers last year. Justas she unfolded the letter to read it, something slipped from its folds and landed on the counter. She quickly looked down and was taken aback by what she saw; sight there in front of her, tied with a blue satin ribbon were her wedding and engagement rings from Elliot. The same rings that she had taken off and dropped in Mairyms's lap when she'd found the two of them together last spring in Chicago. She hadn't seen them again since that day and immediately swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat as her slender fingers picked them up and she went about reading the letter that was scrawled in Elliot's handwriting.
Never giving upon us!
-El
She let out a sigh and tossed the envelopes and Marvin's letter into the trash then took elliot's letter and the rings and stormed out of the kitchen, grabbing her purse and keys from where she left them and walking out the door.
.
CEMETERY
She got out of her car and made her way over. There was anger in her stride and in her voice when she looked down at the freshly dug grave.
"You just can't help it can you? still trying to manipulate me, even from the grave!" she yelled and then grew quiet for a long moment.
"How did we end up were?" she asked in a shaky whisper, her eyes quickly filling with tears. "You were once the center of my world and then… how did this happen?" her tears were now falling fast as she kneeled down beside him.
"This wasn't what I wanted. El, I loved you! I loved you so much; but there was something inside you that my love couldn't fix and I'm sorry. I'm sorry that you felt so lost and I'm sorry that you let your pain turn you into someone that I couldn't recognize, someone dark and vengeful…but I did love you and I don't know, maybe there's a part of me that always will even in spite of…" she wiped her tears before continuing.
"Maybe in another space and time things could have been different for us, who knows, maybe we could have found our way back to each other but here; too much has happened, here…we weren't meant to be and as much as I should, I won't spend my life hating you for everything you've done. I have love, I have happiness; so much that I can thrive in spite of the pain you caused; I just wish you would have opened yourself to finding the same thing. El, wherever you are, I hope you're at peace." She took the rings from her pocket and looked at them in her palm for a moment as the last of her tears fell and she took a deep, cleansing breath before dropping the rings into the flower holder on his grave, then stood up and walked away. She didn't turn around, nor did she ever come back after that day; having finally closed the door on the past and looking forward to her future with Trevor.
.
SATURDAY EVENING, THE LANGAN ESTATE. CONNECTICUT
Tricia planned a small, yet very elegant wedding for her son and new daughter. Just as Olivia had wanted, they were married in the grand, old Gazebo that sat in the center of the lake on the estate. The gazebo was quite large and was easy able to hold the 50 guests – family and close friends that were in attendance.
They said their 'I dos' around 5pm, Olivia looking absolutely stunning in her gold silk gown. She'd chosen a traditional silhouette with the full skirt and chapel-length train but had opted for a strapless bodice that perfectly accentuated her every curve. Trevor thought she was a vision to behold as she came down the aisle arm in arm with Don, who gave her away. Trevor couldn't contain his tears the entire ceremony. He was marrying the woman of his dreams. When it came time to take their vows, they were both fighting tears and soon had all of their guests crying as well. When the minister pronounced them man and wife, they were in each other's arms and kissing passionately before he could even finish delivering the words, and neither Trevor or Olivia seemed interested in coming up for air, eliciting laughter, cheers and applause from their guests.
The reception was also held on the estate. Tricia had outdone herself, having a huge silk party tent erected that was gorgeously decorated in exquisite, exotic flowers, lights and candles. The tables where laden with the finest linens, crystal and china. The reception had gone on until about ten and during that time, Travis had stolen Casey away from the festivities and they walked hand in hand along the lake, enjoying the perfect warmth of the beautiful spring night.
"Liv was beautiful, wasn't she?" Casey asked as they continued their stroll.
"She was. Doll, I've been wanting to talk to you about something"
"Uh oh"
"What do you mean?" Travis asked
"That sounds like the prelude to a breakup."
"Breakup?" he laughed
"Did I say something funny?" she wondered
"Yes, you did by implying that I'd be interested in breaking up with you." she smiled, her eyes shining bright as she looked up at him. he reached out and caressed her face.
"I never thought I could feel this again" she confided.
"I love you"
"And I love you, but what-"
"Marry me"
"What?" she couldn't believe her ears.
"Marry me" he said again
"Are you crazy?"
"Maybe, but I know that love you and I know that I will never know anyone else like you who makes me feel the things that you make me feel. And before you say it, I don't care about however much time we might not have, but I know that the time we do have, I wanna spend it making every day better than the last. I want you to be my wife." He said and got down on one knee and took her hand
"Travis…" she said, overcome with emotion as her tears began to fall
"Just say yes"
"God damn you!" she wept and punched him in the shoulder "Yes!" she cried. He didn't waste any time putting the cushion cut solitaire on her finger and getting up to take her in his arms, showering her with sweet kisses. And when they'd returned to the reception just in time for Olivia to toss her bouquet, Casey considered a it good sign when she had been the one to catch it.
...
The following morning Olivia and Trevor left for month-long honeymoon/baby making retreat, but not before Tricia cooked up a huge southern style breakfast for the family at which Travis and Casey announced their engagement.
"You boys are making your momma so proud!" she gloated in her southern drawl as she kissed and hugged her son and new future daughter" then she, Casey Alex and Liv forgetting the rest of the room as they talked about the ring and wedding plans while the men looked on incredulously, astounded at how easily the women got lost in such things.
.
BORA BORA
Trevor and Olivia arrived in Bora Bora where he'd rented a gorgeous estate on a private beach, complete with a full staff. They didn't waste a minute getting to the conception games and after having to make love as quietly as possible last night, Olivia being apprehensive that they were having sex in his parent's house. But here, now they were free to make as much noise as they wanted, especially since he'd given the staff the week off so that he and his bride could thoroughly ravage each other without prying ears and oh, did they ever! They never left the estate that entire first week, thoroughly christening the place by making love everywhere, both inside and out and by the end of that first week, there hadn't been a single room that they hadn't done it in at least twice. They were pretty confident that they would reach their goal before they left the island in a month.
...
2 weeks later…
Trevor sat out on the veranda where the staff had prepared a huge breakfast but he only sipped coffee, enjoying the ocean breeze as he waited for Olivia to wake up and join him. Today they would know if they'd conceived. Her period was due and they'd both spent the night praying that it wouldn't show.. Her cycles had run like clockwork all her life - 29 days. And just as when they'd conceived Chloe, it was the only time she'd ever been late and they hoped that today they would be so lucky. His face lit up when she emerged from the house freshly scrubbed and wearing a gorgeous, flowing maxi-dress.
"Good morning beautiful" he greeted with an eager smile.
"Good morning" she said quietly and sat down at the table. He could tell by the look on her face that something was wrong as she drew her knees up against her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs.
"We're not, are we?" he asked. With a look of sadness on her face as she shook her head and cast her eyes downward as they filled with tears.
"My um…my period came" she registered barely above a whisper but the disappointment was evident in her voice and she quickly wiped away the rogue tear that had fallen down her face. He reached out to take her hand, pulling her over and onto his lap and wrapping her in his arms. He could feel her distress, both of them having wanted this so bad.
"Baby, I'm sorry." He apologized. "But look at it this way, we've only been trying for a few weeks"
"I know I just…we weren't even trying the first time and it happened so fast."
"Probably because we weren't thinking about it" he smiled
"But suddenly, there she was." Trevor noted the immense pain in her tone that was always present whenever she talked about Chloe. "I built up so much love for her only to end up with nowhere to put it. baby, I need this!"
"And you'll have it, I promise."
.
SIX MONTHS LATER…
.
TREVOR'S OFFICE
It was just after 8pm and Trevor was hard at work in his office. Lately, he'd been spending a lot more time here as the pressure of trying to conceive began to grow. Month after month she'd get that reminder that there would be no baby and she'd become depressed. These days, anger began accompanying the depression and they'd find themselves fighting a lot – too much a far as he was concerned and the fights were happening more often, especially after Alex and Brian announced two months ago that they were expecting another baby and they hadn't even been trying; that made things even more tense at home between he and Olivia and lately he felt like they were constantly walking through a minefield, never knowing when another argument would explode. This wasn't what he pictured their first year of marriage would be – dissension and stress. They'd barely even spoken to one another in the last three weeks unless it was to argue and this morning had been the blowout to end them all – she said hurtful things, he said hurtful things; she began to cry and he punched the wall not only because of his anger at what she'd said, but more because he was frustrated that what he'd said had made her cry. Then to make things worse, before he could apologize, she'd told him to go to hell and stormed out!
She'd spent the first half of the day avoiding him, ignoring his calls, leaving him feeling like the biggest jerk on the planet but all he wanted was to hold her and apologize. Finally, after the 10th call, he got the message that she didn't want to talk and he gave up trying. Now he sat here, well into evening, wanting desperately to pick up the phone and call her but he wondered if there was even a point in doing so; they had to find a way to fix this.
He sighed and took off his glasses, tossing them onto his desk then dragged his hands through his hair and rested them behind his head as he looked up at the ceiling, blowing out a deep breath and slumping in his chair when from the doorway he heard:
"Hey" Olivia said as she made her way in to his office carrying a basket.
"Hey! " He said, surprised as he sat up straight in his chair. He couldn't believe she was really here. "I was just taking a little break."
"So I see" she gave a faint smile "I made you dinner" she said as she lightly set the basket down on the coffee table then took off her coat and scarf
"Thanks; I'm actually starving"
"I thought you might be…" she said as she walked closer to his desk. There was tension in the room that could be felt by both of them. After another moment of awkward silence had passed between them, it was Trevor who broke the monotony by getting up from his desk and going to his wife to take her in his arms.
I'm so sorry baby!" he apologized
"I'm sorry too!" she cried against his chest "I don't wanna fight anymore!"
"Neither do I!" he said, holding her tighter as he kissed the top of her head. "We have got stop letting this make us crazy" he said. She pulled away and looked up at him with teary eyes.
"It's not making us crazy, it's making me crazy and I'm making you hate me!"
"I could never hate you"
"But you resent me"
"Liv, baby listen to me; I said some things that I shouldn't have"
"We both did"
"I know; we let things get out of hand and we can't do that again; when I saw that look on your face…babe I made you a promise that if I ever made you cry, you would only cry happy tears for the rest of your life and I broke that promise."
"Don't do that to yourself; I'm not exactly innocent in any of this and I said things to you that were just as hurtful. I've been at work all day just thinking… and I see it; I see now what this is doing to us and I hate it! I'm starting to wonder if maybe we shouldn't just…"
'Back away from it?"
"You're thinking it too?" she asked, relived that it wasn't just her who was feeling this way. Before he answered, he took her hand and led her across the cavernous office to one of the leather sofas where they both took a seat.
"I don't want you to misunderstand me. I want nothing in the world more than I want children with you, but I-"
"Think we're putting too much focus on it? It's because we are and as much as I want it, I don't think it's worth what we're doing to ourselves. We've been so stressed out, all we do is fight, we hardly talk anymore; we haven't had sex in three weeks! We're still newlyweds, and we haven't taken even a moment to just enjoy that, to just enjoy each other and I miss you." she said as he took her hand and kissed it. "It feels like we're falling apart"
"I know we've been distant lately but I swear to you, we were never in danger of falling apart, I would die before I let that happen… I love you Olivia Langan; period!"
"I love you too!" she cried as she threw herself into his arms. Within moments they were tearing each other's clothes off while they kissed so eagerly, so passionately that they ended up tumbling from the sofa onto the floor but neither of them noticed or cared, they were too enraptured in their visceral need to physically reconnect. He'd barely gotten her pants off before he buried his head between her thighs, making her come violently with his mouth then taking his time to kiss and lick every inch of her while she came down, driving her body insane before he finally entered her.
They made love all over his office that night – on the floor, on his desk, in his desk chair; he even took her against the floor-to-ceiling windows that covered the corner walls on one side of the room, neither of them caring that their naked bodies were on in full view of the city. When they'd finally spent each other, she sat contentedly across his lap, wearing nothing but his shirt while she fed him and they engaged in sweet, mindless banter. The smiles on their faces, the way she laughed and the way they looked at one another; those looks of absolute love and adoration, they were back where they needed to be and right now, nothing else mattered.
.
THE FOLLOWING SUMMER, END OF JULY…
.
TREVOR AND OLIVIA'S HOME
Getting their marriage back on track bought with it new changes, one of them being Olivia and Trevor deciding that they wanted a home together, not his or hers, but theirs; somewhere new that wasn't laden with the shadows of either of their pasts. Since she couldn't bear to sell her family home, she decided instead to rent it to a young couple.
She and Trevor decided to keep his apartment for those late work nights that they were guaranteed to have when they'd be too tired to drive back to Westchester – that's where they'd purchased their new home. Olivia had fallen in love with a gorgeous house up in White Plains that just happened to be for sale and Trevor wasted no time buying it for her, dropping the full asking price of 2.4 million – in cash to the owners for the 5 bedroom, 7 and ½ bath colonial that sat on two acres, complete with a pool and a guest cottage.
Today, on this hot and hazy summer morning, Olivia shuffled around the house while Tricia kept her company in Trevor's absence. She needed to call him but she'd been debating for the last couple of hours if she should disturb him at work. usually, she wouldn't hesitate but he was a in a very important meeting with the other partners this morning and she didn't see it fit to bother him unless it was absolutely necessary so she decided instead to distract herself by calling Alex while Tricia was in the kitchen planning tonight's dinner – another thing Olivia loved about having her visit, Tricia would take charge of the kitchen giving she and Trevor more time to spend on…other things.
"The few minutes I get to talk and Isaac is screaming his head off" Alex complained "I'd better go before he wakes Connor and Liam. Love you both" she said to Liv and Casey who was also on the line, before she hung up.
"Honey, you're supposed to be relaxing" Tricia said, in her sweet southern drawl, to Olivia who had just made her way onto the huge kitchen and stopped to take a breath. She was about to respond to her mother in law when suddenly, a 'pop' that only she could hear, made her gasp.
"Um, Case, I gotta go, I'll call you back" she said and ended the call.
.
TREVOR'S LAW FIRM
Trevor had just come out of a meeting and stood chatting with the other partners just outside of the conference room when his cell phone rang. When he took it from his jacket and noticed the display, a small smile tugged at his lips.
"Excuse me, I need to take this." He apologized and headed off down the hall as he answered his phone. "Hey honey" He answered cheerfully as he continued walking.
"Baby…"
"Everything ok?" he asked as he reached his office and stepped inside.
"Everything's fine, but I need you to come home."
"Miss me already?" he teased, smiling as he sat down in the plush leather chair behind his desk.
"That too; and my water just broke." She stated calmly. Trevor's eyes went wide as he jumped out of his seat
"Your wa- oh my God! It's time?!"
"It's time." She said as she leaned over the counter and began rubbing her huge belly to calm the kicking. They'd made love this morning before breakfast and her contractions began about a half hour after he left but she'd decided not to call him until she was sure that it was labor; now she was sure.
"How are you so calm?! Never mind, I'm on my way!" he started to hang up but then… "I love you… BREATHE!" she laughed in his ear. Neither of them could have imagined that the night they'd spent reconnecting in his office nine months ago would have done the trick
"I Love you too, hurry or your mother's gonna kill you!"
.
EARLY DAWN, THE FOLLOWING MORNING. HOSPITAL.
Olivia had gone through a long, arduous labor and now the actual delivery was proving to be just as grueling.
"Come on baby you can do it, push!"
"I am pushing!' she cried, it was becoming harder to focus. After nearly an entire day of labor, she was frustrated, spent and desperate for it to be over.
"Just a little more, you're almost there!" Trevor tried to assure her while keeping his own frustration at bay. She'd been at this for over 20 hours and it was killing him to see her in so much pain when he knew that there was nothing he could do to help her except hold her hand and try to encourage her – a job that made him feel pretty damn useless right now while she tried desperately to squeeze a tiny human out of her body.
"Trevor I can't, I just…I just need a minute!" she sobbed.
"Olivia, honey I know you're tired but the head's right here" the doctor told her sympathetically "Just a couple more pushes and you'll be holding your baby"
The promise of seeing her baby gave her a bit of renewed strength and she drew in several deep breaths through her sobs as she squeezed Trevor's hand and again, bore down, pushing as hard as she could.
"That's it honey, you're doing so good!" Trevor cheered while she pushed through an ear-splitting cry and tears spilled down her face; the pain was incredible and now, as she felt her baby's head emerging, she was sure that she would pass out at any second. She was unable to even form a coherent thought right now, much less notice the crack that elicited from her husband's hand as the bones in his index and middle fingers snapped under the pressure of her herculean grip.
As his mother held Olivia's other hand and spoke soft reassurances to her, He took several deep breaths through his nose to keep from vocalizing the yell that was stuck in his throat as his wife continued squeezing his now broken hand. He sucked in another breath and swallowed hard. "A couple of fractured fingers are nothing compared to what she's going through!" he reminded himself; he would just have to deal with it.
As she stopped to take a quick rest, he could see it in her eyes that she wouldn't be able to go much longer; she was beyond exhausted but still, she was readying herself for the next push, the one would bring their child into the world, finally after they'd gone through so much, and fought so hard to survive it all. They'd been blessed with a second chance and as he looked over at her, drenched in sweat, eyes red rimmed from crying and her hair matted and sticking to her skin, he thought that she was more beautiful than he'd ever seen her and when she caught his gaze and gave a weak smile in return, he thought his heart would burst. He loved her so completely; and as he caressed her face and kissed her brow, he swore to God and everything in the universe that he could not love her more even if he tried.
"Okay Olivia, one more push should do it!" the doctor said.
"I love you." Trevor whispered against her temple just as her face grimaced and the pain of another contraction began ripping through her. She whimpered as she squeezed his hand; he didn't care about the pain, all that mattered to him was getting her through this. Her whimper quickly grew into a cry, as she leaned forward to push their child from her body.
"OH MY GOD!" she screamed as the baby made its' exit. Trevor continued to cheer her on, tears running down his face as he watched their daughter slip out of her mother and Olivia began sobbing as their baby drew her first breath and wailed to announce her arrival.
Trevor cried with his wife as the doctor placed the infant in Olivia's waiting arms and she cried even harder as she cradled her daughter against her chest, completely awestruck as she looked down at her then up at Trevor who leaned in and kissed her lips again and again as they laughed and cried. Tricia was a complete mess, crying hysterically at seeing her grandchild enter the world and now busied herself with taking pictures as she bawled.
"It's ok baby girl!" Olivia cooed softly through her own sobs as she soothed her daughters cries and kissed her tiny head. After a moment of rejoicing, Trevor cut the umbilical cord and held his daughter before the nurse took her to be weighed and examined just across the room, but to Olivia, it may as well have been another continent as she was already feeling separation anxiety and looked longingly across the room, not wanting to take her eyes from her child even for a second.
"Sweetie, you did good!" Tricia cried "I'm a Grandma!" Olivia smiled through her own tears, unable to believe that that perfect, screaming child had just come out of her.
"Could you make sure she's okay?" she asked her mother in law, wanting her daughter surrounded by the people who loved her.
"She's in good hands." The doctor smiled and assured her just as a look of pain registered on Olivia's face and she shifted.
"Trevor!" She cried as she reached for him and he immediately came back to her side."
"Already?" he asked as he took her hand in his, Olivia responded with a loud groan as she gripped and squeezed it.
"This little guy is not wasting any time; I can already see him!" the doctor announced. "Ok Liv, get ready to push…"
...
"We have 2 babies." Trevor mused with absolute joy as he sat propped up in bed with his wife. While Olivia nursed their son, he looked down at their daughter Adrienne Grace, who was sleeping peacefully in his arms then over at his wife.
"You were amazing; you are amazing." She smiled and leaned against his shoulder. "You brought 2 babies into the world today!"
"I had help" she reminded him, in a soft, tired voice as she held her son's tiny hand.
"All I did was hold your hand; but you… WOW!" he said as he reached over and stroked his son's head. "After what you just went through, I can't believe you're even still awake!"
"I'm a little afraid that if I close my eyes, I'll wake up and this will all have been a dream." He kissed her temple and she suddenly grew quiet. After a moment, Trevor noticed that she was crying.
"You ok?"
"Yeah… I was just thinking that I never got to hold Chloe… I wonder about her all the time; what she'd look like right now; if she'd be more me or you."
Trevor smiled as he put his arm around her and kissed the top of her head, his own eyes tearing up.
"Can you imagine how excited she would have been to become a big sister?"
"She probably would have thought they were dolls." Olivia said, a small laugh escaped her but she was quickly overcome by tears. "I miss my baby so much!" she sobbed "Not a single day goes by that I don't think about her. Am I horrible to feel sad when I have so much to be thankful for right now?"
"You carried her for nine months and then she was gone, it's ok to still grieve." She wiped her tears and snuggled closer against him; as close as she could with each of them holding a baby in their arms.
"Baby." she called softly to him as she looked down at Caden James who was falling asleep yet, determined to keep feeding.
"yeah?"
"I'm sorry about your hand." he smiled.
"It's okay. If it meant seeing you smile, I'd let you break it a hundred times over!" she sniffed back more tears and looked up at him, caressing his face.
"I love you, and all three of our little miracles!" She said slowly, he leaned in and caught her lips, kissing her so sweetly, and so full of love that she felt it through the entirety of her being. They'd finally gotten the family they'd wanted and they couldn't believe it nor could they believe that they'd been so incredibly blessed to have found each other.
