Recap: Finally, Juuri had made a small resolve to continue her mission due to the help of Lenalee and Allen. However, she cannot help but let them down as she fail to show her true self to these two. As they meet up with Kanda fighting Vittorio, Juuri thought of helping the blue-haired male. Unfortunately, her warning was not fast enough as the tearing of flesh reached her ears, causing her body to stiffen in guilt. She could have helped but she was too late.

"KANDA!" Allen calls out to Kanda but said guy just knelt down. Juuri, however, remained standing in her spot, unable to move.

"The same thing happened again." She said to herself as she looked at Kanda's weakened form. She just keeps on looking at the scene in front of her, too helpless to move on her own or more like a little conflicted to move. She knew that Kanda would still be fine. Everything should be fine. A side character like her should stay in the sidelines and let these main characters bask in the limelight and yet she feels like saving him.

"I'll finish you."

"Going with the flow but not getting carried away."

Her eyes widened in fear and in a blur, Juuri is already in front of Kanda, her Death Scythe activated, blocking the strike aimed to him by Vittorio. Unfortunately, the strike is too much for her to handle so she was pushed back by the force.

"AHHH!" Juuri screamed in pain as her back roughly met a cemented pillar. She cannot help but mutter some colorful words under her breath while standing up from her position. With shaky legs, she managed to stood up and smirk to Vittorio.

"Juuri!"

"Are you okay?"

"Nightray-dono!"

Allen, Lenalee and the finder, Peter, call to her but she just wave them off in assurance.

"Feh! You are pretty strong I see. Now I see why Kanda is having a tough time with you. "

"Step aside. I will not fight a woman," Her opponent, Vittorio, says as he eyes her which just caused Juuri to roll her eyes at him.

"Yeah, yeah. I am a woman. So who cares? Maybe this woman will be the one to bring you down?"

"Too bad I'm not really the one to bring you down but him. He will definitely slice me with Mugen if I end this my way. That is why-"

"Lenalee! Allen! Please take care of Kanda for minute. I just need to settle this." She said, not bothering to look at the others. She can hear Allen saying that she needed to switch with him but she just shrug it off like nothing.

"I'll only repeat this once; I will not fight a woman." He said as he readies his sword to strike again. In exchange, Juuri tighten her grip to her Innocence Scythe.

"I need to play around with you just a little."

"We'll see about that."

Juuri and Vittorio started fighting with each other, though it's more like her dodging his strikes every time. Everytime the swordsman would swing his sword, Juuri would either duck down or counter with her scythe. Truthfully, she has little confidence on what she can do against the guy. That is why, being the smart person that she is, Juuri opted to just continue staying alive and buying enough time for the still wounded Kanda. It would really bother her if she stole his light.

'Kuso! This is going nowhere. And here I thought I'd be a better match than Allen when he had a taste of these strikes in the anime. '

"Oh fuck!" She cursed as she dodged another blow. Thanks to her fast reflexes, she manageed to kneel down.

"He's open!"

With that, she immediately kick his jaw with her left foot and due to the momentum, successfully kicking his face with the other in a flash, enough to send the swordsman to the ground. At first, she cannot believe what she had done, but a small smile crosses her lips as she realized how epic that move was.

"I-I did that? I'm so happy! Woah."

"JUURI! LOOK OUT!" Unfortunately for her, she was too engrossed to her own little world to notice that Vittorio had already stood up, his sword raised up in the air, ready to slice her in half. Luckily, Allen called out to her, dragging her back to reality. She only have a second to process the thought as sword came striking to her head.

"A sword? Then-" Her eyes widen.

"EH!?" Swiflty defending with the blade of her scythe, Juuri managed to evade being sliced in two. Really, if she stopped paying attention, she won't last long enough to even encounter a real challenge; a Noah.

"Didn't your mother ever told you not to interrupt someone while they are thinking?" She clicked her tongue in frustration. She does not know if she's angry because she's stupid sometimes or because Vittorio cut her victory short.

"I'll take this from here on!" Allen touched her shoulder as he moves between her and Vittorio.

"W-what? You shouldn't Allen! I can handle this on my own! You idiot!" She tried to retort to him but he just shakes his head disapprovingly.

"You'll only get your left hand injured" She added inwardly, gritting her teeth as she felt her blood boil. Why can't anyone listen to her?

"I'll be fine, Juuri." He said one last time, activating his left hand causing Juuri to take a step back and retreat, shaking her head, her lips forming into a thin line.

"Going with the flow but not getting carried away." Juuri mumbled and yet the conflicting emotions haunt her. Was she doing this as Juuri Nightray or as the real "her"?

"How are you feeling?" Juuri asked Kanda, who is kneeling down with Lenalee supporting him. When Allen and Vittorio started fighting each other, she immediately made her way towards Kanda.

"Che. Cocky brat." Kanda scowled as he deliberately hide his pained expression. He really looks more constipated if he kept doing that.

What an idiot.

"Goodness. Even in that state you still have the nerve to insult someone. How impressive of you." She mused, rubbing her aching temples. The weariness from using her new attack awhile ago comes rushing back to he like a wave, causing her to feel slightly lightheaded.

"Is that all you can do? It seems to me that you're only capable of dodging his attacks." He glared at her.

"You bastard…"

She glared back. "I don't want to hear that from someone who almost got themselves killed."

"Mou! Stop acting like children this instant!" Lenalee said as she whacked both her and Kanda's heads, succesfully silencing them. Juuri just rubbed her head as she averted her eyes back to Allen and Vittorio who are now engaged in a fight with the former being completely overwhelmed by the swift movements of the swordsman.

"He's no good. He cannot beat Vittorio," Kanda said, as if voicing her own thoughts.

"And what? You'll fight him again in that condition? Do you want to die that badly, idiot jerk?" Juuri raised her brow, holding his arm, inhibiting him from moving any further. He tried to struggle free but she just stubbornly and roughly pulled him back. As if on cue, he collapsed out of the blue, finally succumbing to the pain. Well, how he can't? His chest was sliced wide open. Fortunately, she managed to hold him against her while kneeling. No matter how much of a jerk Kanda is, she still worry over his injuries. Immediately, she bit her lip in worry.

Out of the blue, a huge explosion was heard. Damn. She was too caught up in her own thoughts to notice Allen's situation.

"Let me take a look. Stay here with him, Juuri." Lenalee speeds off towards Allen. She knew full well what will happen. However, considering her own health at the moment, it's impossible for her to fight Vittorio again.

'Just one more of that attack, innocence. Please work. Just once,' It is not only her head that hurts but also her limbs. The rebound is sure hitting at the wrong time. She heared Kanda grumble something incoherent that she does not understand, but she just shrugged it off.

"Bring Kanda to the cabin, now." The black-haired exorcist commanded to their Finder, her voice stern making the Finder flinched in his spot.

"Y-Yes. Nightray-dono."

With a deep breath Juuri sped off towards Allen and Lenalee's direction.

"Death Scythe, Activate! "

Allen was currently limping away from Vittorio. He is slightly frustrated with himself that he cannot even land a hit on him even once. He knew he is in trouble because his left hand is numb as it suffered from the strikes against the swordsman. Kanda and Juuri is really strong to really hold off against this swordsman for a longer time than him.

"Death Scythe, Activate! " Allen immediately whipped his head to look at Juuri who appeared behind him out of nowhere.

"Juuri! You cannot-!" Allen warned, feeling something is wrong right now, his eyes widening when he noticed her trembling legs.

She is tired.

"I'm tired of watching idly on the sidelines! That is why-" She brings up her scythe, ready to strike Vittorio when-

"Stop this!" A female voice shouted out of the blue. All eyes turned to none other than a beautiful woman with blond hair and brown eyes. Vittorio immediately relaxes his stance, as if obeying to her words.

'What's the problem with people butting in?' Juuri thought, heaving a soft sigh. Atleast they were saved.

She looked away from the woman and looked at her unconscious partner. She is sure that there will be another fight that is going to happen and another scene of him getting injured again, especially not counting the fight between the two for him to take a rest. This just made the black-haired female exorcist shake her head disapprovingly. This is really getting hectic. One moment she was emotional and now she is left being concerned and helpless.

"The life of a side character."

Juuri thought bitterly, glancing at the wounded Kanda Yu.

"I don't know if it'll work, but it may help his injuries," the old woman said as she gave Juuri a greenish paste that seems to be for Kanda's injuries. The female exorcist just thanked her while the finder talked to the old woman for the payment. This left Juuri to approach the sleeping Kanda with a worried Lenalee Lee sitting worriedly at his side.

"Hey Lena, don't worry too much. This guy is as stuff as a gorilla." Juuri snickered, trying to ease Lenalee's worries with her remark and reassuringly squeezes her shoulder.

Lenalee smiled weakly from her words. "How about you? Are you alright?" The Chinese exorcist looked at Juuri, as if sensing the other female's worries. Luckily, Juuri flashed her usual grin, successfully dismissing Lenalee's suspicions of something. Her stay in this world had already influenced her a lot to the point that acting as an idiot typical side character is starting to mirror her personality all for the pretense of her going with the flow to spend the time that she has.

"Going with the flow but not getting carried away" – that is the mantra that she had always been chanting to herself, reminding her of what kind of a terrible double-faced person she is. "This is bad. She caught me there."

"Nothing really. I'm just a little tired. You should worry about Allen, not me, since he got his left arm injured." Juuri pointed at the direction where Allen is currently resting.

"Hm. I know. His left arm is still temporarily paralyzed. He is really shocked by it."

"I'm their "friend" here. A friend is-" Juuri smiled at Lenalee, hiding the fact that her face is twisted into a frown. "-must make his or her friend happy." She does have friends in that world but she's not really the type to easily open up with someone. Thus, without revealing anything and worrying others, the least she can do is make them happy.

All for the sake of playing as a typical exorcist named "Juuri Nightray".

Still, the real "her" felt uneasy and guilty. She cared for them but she cared for herself more. She knew their fate and yet she cannot bring herself to expose everything to them because she knew they will hate her and she will lose her place. She kept telling that herself that she does not mind dying to the point that she killed herself before and yet now, the idea of being hated is more unbearable.

Was going with the flow meant not caring if something bad happened to them or was she already getting carried away to the point that she's left to play as Juuri Nightray until the end? As this idea crossed her mind, Juuri hugged Lenalee tightly, shocking the latter. "J-Juuri?" Lenalee blinked in surprise.

"Lenalee is so cute when she is worried, but you're more beautiful when you are smiling. That is why," The black-haired female said, her lips quivering as she felt the dry lump on her throat. "– I want to see a smiling Lenalee. A smile that will make everyone happy. So please, please smile."

"Do not hate me."

"Juuri..." For a moment, Lenalee blushed from embarrassment but it effectively made her mood better. "Thank you."

"You are welcome, my friend."

After a while, all of the exorcists gather around the fireplace excluding Kanda is still resting in a small room, listening to the tale of Sandra and Vittorio and how the woman named Claudia is connected with Vittorio. As usual, the black-haired female paid no attention for the nth time since she is tired of listening and instead concentrated on the sleeping Mr. Rapunzel beside her.

Thankfully, his silky straight hair is enough to distract her from mulling over her own insecurities.

"Hmm. His hair is so soft. I remember the last time I touched it that I almost killed myself. Stupid Lavi's fault." Juuri chuckled softly as a terrible idea invaded her mind. "I want to touch it again."

The last time she touched it she almost signed her death certificate that day and only survived thanks to her innocence. But this is a great chance because he is still sleeping. Maybe doing something "Juuri-like" would ease her nerves and get back being the side character that Juuri is. Slowly approaching the sleeping male, Juuri felt her fingers twitch in anticipation. "What if he wakes up? He will surely wake up and I'll be caught in the act again. And this time no Lavi around as the mastermind but me. But I am just a curious human being from another world. This is a lifetime experience that even Bill Gates can't get. Besides, getting scolded is better than being left to think over some things."

Finally, realization strikes you before you can touch Kanda's hair.

"Why am i thinking about someone's hair and Bill Gates at all? Am I playing stupid or I am already starting to become one? This is really Lavi's fault! He started this fraud! T-This anomaly! This sin! I'm not going to exploit any bishounen and bishoujo out here in the name of all the otaku out in my world or suffer the death from millions of fangirls out there. Sorry! I'm so sorry! This is stupid but distracting so, whatever." Juuri laughed at her own train of thoughts. This situation reminded her of a typical comedy anime where anime characters cry fountain-like tears falling from their eyes. If she put her hands in a prayer like position and started kneeling she is sure she can complete the look.

And she did, causing everyone except the sleeping Kanda to be freaked out from her strange behavior.

A side character must do what a side character does.

"Juuri…?"

"Are you okay Nightray-dono?"

"Umm, Juuri?"

Without warning, Kanda sits up straight, causing Kanda to headbutt the unsuspecting girl who was to busy perfecting her praying anime girl pose.

"What the-!?" Kanda shouted but Juuri just continued her prank and took it up a notch, desperately trying to get drunk in her own stupidity. If being stupid would ease her worries and help forget the unwanted memories away, she will gladly become one.

"SORRY! I WON'T EXPLOIT KANDA ANYMORE! SO PLEASE DON'T BESTOW UPONS ME THE BARNEY CUDDLE DEATH! OH SO GRACIOUS FANGIRLS OF THIS JERK. I BEG OF YOU!" She cried, trying not to laugh at her own act.

"…Idiot brat?" Kanda sent her a withering glare. "I knew it, you have lost it long ago."

" Hello! Good moring Mr. Jerk! I didn't notice you wake up. When did you woke up?" Juuri asked, trying to look unaware of her surroundings, successfully infuriating the swordsman.

"Crazy brat."

"If anyone is crazy that should be you. You are crazy enough to fight for weeks even with that kind of injury." She snorted.

"Atleast we are back at this conversations." Juuri heaved a soft sigh as she finally relaxes around Kanda. The good thing about being with Kanda Yu is he is good at distracting her by having these kinds of exchanges to the point that her intellectual prowess is lowered and her ability to overthink about things is impaired.

"As if you have any use against that swordsman!"

"I surely have a brain that you lack, Mister Grumpy!"

"Please, stop you two!" Lenalee look at the two exorcists who had started having another round of verbal argument.

"Well, at least Kanda seems alright." Allen added.

After a few days of rest, Kanda's injuries had closed but he is still weak and yet he insisted on going out to fight Vittorio again. However, Allen and Lenalee teamed up against him going, especially Juuri, since he must not fight Vittorio in that weak state, not until he has a plan just like in the manga. So apparently, Juuri is stuck with him as she suggested keeping him from sneaking out while he thinks of a plan to get the innocence away from Vittorio. However, the black-haired female is already growing bored from watching from outside the room as Kanda is left to sit on his bed and thinks.

Like he is capable of thinking. Ofcourse he is. She's just messing him up.

'Mou. It is so boring watching him sit like that without even moving! I'm getting sleepy from boredom…Need to do something or else I might overthink again." Juuri thought, scanning the cabin with her calculating eyes. Unfortunately, nothing grabs her attention so she decides to rest her head against the hard wooden table. She noted how hard the damn table is so she searched for something that is soft for her to lay her tired head onto something which left her to grab her old brown sling bag which contains her few belongings.

"Finally. I think I'm going to have that dull headache again from that hard table.
Juuri sighed happily as she slowly placed the bag on top of the table for her to use like a pillow.

'THUMP!'

"Holy macaronis!" She mumbled colorful words under her breath as she feels a bump forming on her head because of the impact. Slightly annoyed, Juuri searched for the culprit inside her bag that is so awfully hard. She thought about the contents of her bag which contain her uniform and some spare clothes that she got from Lenalee. Having no idea what it is, Juuri just shrugged and decided to open her bag only to see a book, more like a journal.

Then, realization struck her.

"Oh! This is Elda's gift. A journal-something to share a secret with." She mused looking at the journal with a bittersweet smile. She really likes writing and reading things, especially works of literature. She is really grateful about her gift. For her to take note of her stay here and to have someone to 'know' of her secrets and feelings makes her feel at ease.

"Isn't this the best time to write something? Thank goodness I have a pen with me. Shall we start?" Juuri giggled to herself, really happy to have something to do, especially in this boring period of waiting for Kanda to come up with something. So with great optimism, she decided to write something-the time when she committed that sin.

The sin of when she killed herself.

Unfortunately, she hasn't gone that far when she notice someone said something in the corner until-

"Oi! I said we are leaving!" An angry Kanda emerged, fully dressed in an exorcist uniform, sending her an infuriated glare for ignoring him which caused Juuri to reply by rolling her eyes at him.

"I know, sorry. No need to be prissy." She said as she is about to close the journal but in an instant, it was gone.

'Wha-'

She looked up to find Kanda holding her precious not-so-empty-journal in his hand. In an instant, Juuri's eyes widened in terror. That journal has information about her and some other mental notes about this tragedy-

"And what's with this stupid thing? You need to focus on the mission, idiot." His hands moves to open the first page only for her to grab it back with such force that made Kanda to look at her, mildly surprised.

"Stop looking you idiot! Goodness..." The female exorcist sighed, hugging her journal to her chest while Kanda snorts in annoyance. "Save your worry because this is not a burden to our mission. You don't need to concern yourself with it." She added sternly to which he replied with a grunt.

"Ofcourse, it's none of my fucking business." Kanda walked away grumpily just as she expected, causing her to smiled bitterly at him.

"It's about you, too. You are all part of this messed up story."

"I know. It's not about your business at all. So, shall we go then, Mr. Grumpy Man?"

"Che. About time, idiot brat."

After an awful long silence between Juuri and Kanda, the two exorcist had finally arrived at the arena. She seemed to be relaxed on the outside but the truth is she is really worried about the outcome. It's not like she doesn't trust Kanda for thinking of a plan. Instead, she doesn't trust her presence here. She is not sure what trouble an unwanted presence such as herself might cause. Just like a pebble thrown into a pond creating ripples on the surface.

Getting carried away or not, she cannot just abandon this guys in the pretense of her being an outsider. That is why, she relented on atleast helping them to make things right. Just enough for a side character like her to do.

In a distance, she can already make out the silhouette of Allen Walker backing away while dodging from Vittorio while the latter keeps on attacking fiercely at the young exorcist. Without a word, Kanda takes off immediately but she stopped him by grabbing his hand which holds Mugen. He instantly glares at her for stopping him.

"Let go-"

"If I hold your hand with Mugen like this, you can't move it, right? You are defenseless." Juuri looked him in the eyes, which surprised Kanda for a second, her unwavering brown eyes looking directly at his own blue orbs as she gave his hand a soft squeeze while holding him in a tight yet gentle grip.

Kanda tried to break free from her hold but her grip was too strong, especially now that he has not yet recovered his strength. This caused Kanda to mentally curse at the female who had always been a pain to his ass. "What do you think you're doing!?"

"Don't-"Before Kanda can curse at her for a second time, the female exorcist gently let go of her hold as she smiled at him. A small sad smile that caused Kanda to freeze from his spot. "-die."

"For that person, don't die." She thought grimly.

After a long pause, the blue-haired exorcist just clicked his tongue as he passed her, walking to the direction of the arena where Allen and Vittorio can be seen fighting. Juuri on the other hand just stayed at her spot.

"I just thought," She smirked. "-that you needed to hear that. Now go!" She 'lightly' pushed him away, almost causing him to stumble and lose his balance, making his blood boil in anger at her little prank.

She is really digging her grave when she is around this guy.

"I don't need you to tell me that!" And with that, he is off to fight Vittorio and settle the score. However, Juuri not attempting to move from her spot, just looked up at the clear blue sky. Eventhough the sky is very beautiful and forgiving, this did not made her feel any better. Worse, it just felt like taunting her of how small and insignificant she is. Shaking the bitter thoughts away, she settled on smiling at the retreating form of Kanda's back.

"I know, you idiot. I hope you get that hint."

Exchanging heavy swings from left to right, dodging, and parrying, the fight between the two swordsmen started with a blast. Juuri who is just watching from the sidelines, quietly observed the fight Kanda was hit in his left shoulder by Vittorio's sword, causing another sickly pile of blood to pour down to the ground which made the female exorcist to unconsciously bit her thumb in worry.

"Think, you idiot! THINK!"

As if Kanda heard her thought, he sliced through Vittorio's right arm that is holding the sword which contains the innocence, successfully cutting the connection between the Innocence and Vittorio, turning the said man to a pile of dust in an instant. On the other hand, before Kanda falls down to the ground, Juuri hastily caught him, steadying his form with his back against her. Unfortunately, his weight caused her to tripped backwards which ended up with the two are seating right now on the ground. Muttering a small apology, she pulled the sword out of his shoulder, to which he replied with a grunt.

"Sorry." Juuri apologized. "But I must admit, you did great. Nice strategy!" She gave him a thumbs up while opening her bag for some bandages that she keep for emergency like this. Fortunately, she also borrowed the miracle paste for wounds from the old woman when she was bored a while ago. Well, the finder can just settle the payment again, right?

"We need to fix him up to at least stop the bleeding."' She thought, holding him up with her left arm as he sits in front of her. Once she found it, she started dressing his wounds. At first, Kanda was hesitant on letting her bandage his wounds but after having a small glaring contest, he had finally relented on her helping him, ofcourse not without grunting at cursing.

"-your stupid plan."

Juuri heared Kanda grumbled quietly which caused her to stop for a second.

"Did he mean that he did get the hint a while back..?" She thought, surprised.

"Kanda, what do you mean by my-"

"You are a pathetic idiot." He cut her off as he closes his eyes while grunting in pain. Of course, he will not admit that he is in pain. His pride can't take it. And him using her idea. Of course, he won't even consider it for his pride.

Although she felt slightly insulted that he won't acknowledge her help, she at least felt happy at being useful.

Atleast being "Juuri Nightray" does not seem to be too bad.

"I know. I'm pathetic. You are smart. Happy?" She sarcastically replied earning a growl from in front of her, which she just dismissed. Sometimes, she can't help but think that the ignorant jerk is acting like a spoiled kid.

"It's right to know your place." Kanda says as he taunts her even in that condition. Too bad for him, she just cannot help it so…

"As a kid he needs to know a lesson." She smirked. The female exorcist slightly poked at Kanda's huge gash, earning a long hiss of pain and a glare which she bravely returned with a hearty chuckle.

She is eager to write this little victory of hers against Kanda in her journal later that night.

"Sorry, my hand slipped."

Eventhough the thin line between being an exorcist and an outsider is still blurred, the black-haired female hopes to find her place beyond that line someday as she continue being the side character named Juuri Nightray.
