Hello my lovelies!

Welcome to the second to last. Get ready for a little angst. I'm sorry.

"This has been a weird six weeks," Maya and Riley said together. Farkle had nodded but wasn't really listening to them.

The three of them were lounging out in the schools' courtyard, mindlessly talking and snacking on what was supposed to be their lunch. Maya was leaning up against Farkle, her head on his shoulder. Meanwhile, Riley was leaning against a newly planted tree trying to read the book that had its pages being blown every which way from the wind.

"Isn't he supposed to be coming back in two weeks anyway?" Farkle shrugged. "He always comes back, don't worry about things that aren't happening."

Simultaneously, Riley and Maya sighed. "You don't know that," Riley protested. "The letters have stopped coming every week. He never calls and-"

"It's Lucas, Riley," Maya interrupted. "He wouldn't just leave us."

"Okay, this conversation is boring. And depressing can we just talk about something else," Farkle suggested.

"The only thing anyone at this school talks about is people leaving and college, thus people leaving. Let's talk about something like, oh I don't know, the weird book you're reading."

"Hey," Riley defended. "This is a very nice and entertaining book."

"Mhmm"

"No, honest. It's about-"

"I take it back. Let's talk about something else, anything else."

"Let's just head to class, the bell is going to ring anyway." Riley's phone started to ring. "Oh, wait I've got to take this. I'll meet you there."

Getting up, Maya and Farkle agreed and they all parted ways.

"Hello? Who is this?"

There was a small static noise on the other end.

"Look, I know this is a blocked number but I'd kind of like to know who I'm talking to."

And yet, after a minute of talking there was still no response.

"Okay, I'm hanging up-"

"Wait!"

Riley froze. Not. Again. She thought.

"Lucas," she whimpered.

"Hey," he responded sheepishly.

"Hi." Her voice was breaking ever so slightly.

"Riles, how is everyone?"

"In class," she snorted.

"Oh, yeah, time difference. I forgot that you guys were in school. That and we have a day-off"

Riley managed to let out a small, crackled, laugh.

"Look, I'll just call you later. I don't want you to miss class for me."

"Wait! I just-I kind of thought. Lucas, this is the first time I've talked to you in two weeks. I don't mind missing one class."

"Are you sure? I mean-"

"Lucas," Riley sighed. "I'm sure. What's going on in your life?"

"Okay, um maybe I'll start with…I'm staying in Texas."

Riley had acted like nothing had changed. She told Maya, Farkle, her parents and yet she hadn't quite broken down. But she knew why. She always expected this to be the outcome. She always kind of thought that Lucas would stay. There was nothing really left for him back in New York.

Surprisingly, Maya had broken down instead. In the way that only she could. She actually did her schoolwork. And she did it well. She devoted a good chunk of her time into school, just so she didn't have to devote it to anything else.

"Maya stop, you're scaring me," Riley whispered. They were in the library attempting to finish an english assignment. Or more like, Maya was finished and they got it two hours ago while Riley was still planning.

"He lied," Maya shrugged.

"What?"

"He said he was coming back and he's not. He lied."

"He'll come back."

"Riley stop being so ignorant! I know you love him and he obviously still loves you but he's in Texas and he's not coming back!"

"Maya, stop yelling. We're in a-"

"I know where we are Riles," Maya sighed, her voice returning to a normal volume.

If there was anything Riley knew in that moment, it was that words wouldn't help Maya. Sometimes it did but today it obviously wouldn't. So she just pulled Maya to the ground so she ended up next to her, that way she was able to lean her head on the others shoulder.

"I love you Riles."

"You too, Mia-oh-Maya"

"Mia-oh-Maya?"

"Eh, I thought I try it out."

"Never again."

"Oh, yeah," Riley agreed. "Never again."

"You know that we're leaving soon for this college things, stuff. If I'm not going to college," Maya suggested. "Maybe we can just share an apartment and we'll get jobs and stuff and things won't change."

"Or we'll change together."

"Yeah I like that. But add Farkle."

"Please, he was gonna come with us whether we wanted him to or not." Riley scoffs. "I wouldn't have it any other way. Plus, we still have one more year. And I've already applied, we're going places whether we like it or not."

Linking their fingers, Riley and Maya left the library and walked to Rosie's, meeting Farkle on the way. And while they lost a member, they didn't lose each other.

Oh yes, this is technically the end.

BUT WAIT! It is epilogue time. Which is where you'll be taken through a series of years and well…you'll see.
