Disclaimer: Some days I wished I owned Twilight, but most days I don't because then I wouldn't have this story up.

Chapter 20

Carlisle's P.O.V.

"Where is Paul?" I bit my lip, not knowing how to answer to the girl whom I previously thought was human.

"I'm not sure, why don't you ask Jacob. I don't keep track of the pack that come and go," She stood staring at me for a solid minute before spinning on her heel to find Jacob. I let out an unneeded breath, she seemed to be catching on to some things when she had returned with Jacob. I sat in my office, searching endlessly for the experiment through so many sites and newspapers to find anything about that experiment when I came across the jackpot.

I sunk back into my chair, seeing the article was dated a month after Maddie's disappearance. I sighed, rubbing my temple feeling a headache come from searching endlessly when I heard a noise beside me. I jerked my head up to see the clone.

"Guess you know, but it's too late because I will end all of you." I heard her said as I felt hands wrapped around my neck right before she jerked it off.

Jacob's P.O.V.

"Maddie? Where are you?" I followed her scent until I reached Carlisle's office and carefully took a step in, wondering why she was in there in the first place.

"Hey Jacob," I looked up from the ground to see her holding a lit match and behind her was Carlisle's body.

"What are you doing?" I stepped forward before her expression changed.

"Something I've been meaning to do for a while now."

I stopped, confused before she dropped the match down. My eyes widened as I ran at her, trying to catch the open flame, but it was too late. Carlisle's body was now burning and there was nobody else home as Rosalie, Emmett, and Esme had left to hunt. I looked away from the burning body, knowing I couldn't do anything to save him before turning towards Maddie, only to find her gone. I stood unsure of what to do, or what had happened that caused this.

I saw the light coming off the computer screen beside the burning body and stepped forward to look at it.

"HUMAN CLONE EXPERIMENT SHUT DOWN BY GOVERNMENT:

There have been many concerns about a nearby power plant that something was happening unknown to the public and it was found yesterday that there had been an illegal experiment going on. The government quickly shut it down as soon as they had infiltrated the plant, but they had never found the laboratory which they believe to be located somewhere else. Although the experiment had been shut down, the public seem to believe that there are clones running among with them and it is causing Chicago distress with friends and family going at each other. Officials may have cleared it up, but it is unknown to anybody whether there is a clone running with the public, unknown to the world."

My eyes widened, a human clone experiment. I checked the date to see the operation was shut down a month after Maddie's disappearance before coming across a journal entry also opened alongside the article.

The pieces clicked, Maddie was dead. That was her clone and I was never told. I couldn't believe my eyes, it had made sense to me now. Why she always called me Jacob rather than Jake, like she normally did. Why she was acting so differently than I last saw her. Why she had forgiven me so easily . . . because it wasn't her hurt, her pain. It was Maddie's, all she was was a clone. And to think I had thought the imprint bond was just weak because I haven't been in contact with her when it was really because she wasn't my real imprint. She was a fake, but why was she here?

I stood in front of the computer with my head in my hands when all of a sudden, the door burst open to all the Cullens who had returned from their trip. Esme looked like she would cry, if she could and instead, her body racked with heavy sobs at her mate's death. I turned away from them, knowing they needed a moment.

"I knew it was too late. WE SHOULD'VE TOLD HIM!" I watched as Rosalie, the hard-faced, cold vampire broke down. I spun back to look at them, the last sentence melting into my brain.

"You knew!?" Emmett nodded sadly, they all stood fidgeting and unsure of what to say next. Esme was on the ground beside Carlisle, still sobbing while Rosalie was in Emmett's arms. Emmett finally replied when no one else spoke up.

"Carlisle was still looking into it and we had decided to tell you when he found proof." I jerked my head towards the computer.

"He found it and I guess she did too because she was the one who killed him." They said nothing and stood in silence, nobody knowing what to do. "Where are the rest of my pack?"

Rosalie answered this time, as Esme was still on the ground with her lover, "They left for Chicago in search of Maddie's body and to put an end to this stupid experiment."

I couldn't believe my ears, my pack had left and didn't tell me, "They didn't tell you because of the same reason why they didn't tell Paul who eventually found out. Paul broke, he was lost without his sister and didn't know what to do so they decided to put him in peace by finding her body and giving her a proper burial."

I said nothing a slid down against the wall, "Well what do we do now?"

The three of us stood there, as we watched the remaining on the floor who had finally spoken. She looked weak and yet her voice was firm, "We find her and kill her."

A/N: I think I'm going to start doing double updates if I take too long to end this because my goal is to finish this before March and I seem to be stretching the plot. Anyways, I hope you liked the chapter, and just a heads up, that's not the only death you'll see whether important to the story or not. But how are you? I'm fine, very tired, but alive and still typing.

Thank you to ameliabedila24 you honestly don't have to review every chapter if it starts to get redundant. It's not that I don't love you, because I do a lot, a lot to the point where I could marry you, but I used to be one of those regular reviewers in a couple of stories and it soon got really old because I didn't find reviewing all that great anymore. But if you love reviewing, then I guess keep going! There is no one to stop you! And thank you for letting me know that I had the info correct, science is my worst subject I was just really worried that I had everything wrong. I was on google for a good hour googling the difference between mitosis and meiosis because I remembered the cloning stuff about that and I'm just really glad I didn't mess up. How's molecular biology? That sounds really interesting, but I'm not all that good at science so probably not a possibility in career. But you do you! Also, the pretty bow won't look so pretty on the inside with where I plan to lead the story, but I guess that is what creativity is, art, with a side of surprise and suspense. And possibly you all to hate me.

But I hope you enjoy this chapter! Update on my life: I started on Ao3 (archiveofourown) and I'm doing so much better there than my other accounts. Hopefully next update is going to be part of a double update, because who knows how long it will take me to wrap up this story. Sorry for this long A/N, I'm very vocal today and I don't know why, it's very strange to me.

Review! Till Next Time! :)
