Rise of the Snow Queen Chapter 20

Frigga greeted Galatea with open arms when she entered the Room Odin was held up in. So they sat there together at Odin's bedside basking in the others company as they waited for word from Loki. Galatea had informed Frigga that something was going on, but didn't go into details about it. Galatea didn't want to know how Frigga would actually react to what Loki was up to. Right now it was better to give as little information as possible.

Instead the two of them spoke of memories past during more peaceful and less stressful times. As this occurred any lingering apprehensions between them slowly evaporated allowing the bond as mother and daughter to form again.

How quickly things can change at the snap of the fingers.

The chatter they were exchanging abruptly came to a halt.

Suddenly ice and frost creped through to their side of the doors slowly spreading over them and onto the walls.

That certainly killed the mood.

Frigga looked to Galatea questioningly.

Eyes wide, holding up her emphasis to show her gloves, shaking her head, Galatea said "It's not me!"

Right on cue screams were heard outside the doors as the Guardsmen protecting them were quickly taken out of the picture.

Frigga instantly sprang into action. She unsheathed a sword hidden in one of Odin's bedposts for his own protection. Frigga was a warrior before she married Odin so she knew her way around using a sword. Galatea on the other hand did not. She had no weapons to defend herself or her family. That is weapons that she was willing to use.

Frigga knew it was time.

"Galatea…," said Frigga, "take off your gloves."

"What," exclaimed Galatea.

Calmly, eyeing the growing advance of ice and frost on the walls and floor, Frigga said "You heard me. Take them off."

"B-But I can't," said Galatea. "You and Father, you'll get hurt if I do."

"You won't hurt us…I have faith in you," said Frigga, softly, gazing at her in utter trust and love.

Galatea sucked in a deep breath exhaled it out slowly to calm her nerves. She needed to make a decision now. Mother and daughter were out of time. Galatea quickly took off her gloves consistently chanting the same thing over and over in head.

Conceal. Don't feel it. Don't let it show. Conceal. Don't feel it. Don't let it show. Conceal! Don't feel it! Don't let it show!

Galatea removed her gloves at the same time the doors were flung open. A Frost Giant of Jotunheim stepped through with Laufey himself not far behind. Frigga bravely moved to intercept these unwanted intruders bearing the sword. She struck down the Foot Soldier, but now had to contend with Laufey.

Laufey backhanded Frigga effortlessly sending her careening into the floor rolling to the side.

Now only Galatea stood in his way.

Galatea shifted in front of Odin's bed. She shot ice out of her hands at Laufey, but it had no affect. He simply blocked them with his arms. Laufey then used a bought of ice of his own to immobilize her. Galatea slammed into the wall behind her and Laufey locked her there by covering her mid and lower body with solid ice. He did the same to her arms so she couldn't attack.

"You fight well, but you have yet to learn to control your magic. With proper training you can reach your potential. I can give you that, Daughter," said Laufey.

"I'm not your daughter," shouted Galatea. "Stay away from him."

But Galatea's words went unheeded.

"It's said you can still hear and see what transpires around you," said Laufey, straddling Odin, holding an ice dagger in a fisted hand. "I hope it's true, so that you may know your death came at the hand of Laufey."

Laufey raised the dagger to make a killing blow.

"No," shrieked Galatea, helpless to stop him.

A beam of energy hit Laufey knocking him off of Odin with a pained cry.

It was Loki. Wearing full armor he used Gungnir to attack Laufey.

Laufey proclaimed "And your death came by the son of Odin."

Laufey wheezed gasping for breath as he came to the realization that he'd been double-crossed. Loki had no intention of assassinating the Allfather. This was his plan all along.

Determined to destroy Laufey, Loki shot a second jet of energy from Gungnir. The beam hit Laufey in the chest and he vaporized into ash.

Laufey of Jotunheim is no more.

Susan Drakian, you are the winner. Ask your question and I will answer.

Well that didn't go well. At least for Laufey.

What do you guys think will Galatea be able to save Loki or will she fail?
