A/N: Here's another chapter. A little sooner than I expected but I got bored so I figured I would write while my muse is still active. Still will be posting a new chapter on Monday though. This chapter will most likely be pretty short but enjoy!

A week later, Kaitlyn sat drinking hot chocolate in the Talon. She watched sympathetically as Lana bustled around the coffee shop at lightning speed. Lana was always trying to keep busy after Clark left. It had only been a week and Kaitlyn was convinced that Lana had already burned herself out. Kaitlyn wanted to help her, but she had no idea what to do. She herself was exhausted from waking up to care for Joshua every night in the middle of the night.

Lana walked by Kaitlyn's table and accidently knocked over a water glass sitting on the table across from it. Kaitlyn reached out and grabbed Lana's arm, pulling her to the chair next to her.

"Lana, you need to slow down. You need to sit and take a break. Working yourself to death won't help anything. Believe me, I know."

Lana sighed and rested her head on her arms that she had crossed over the table. Kaitlyn patted her shoulder and pushed Lana's hair out of her face.

"I suppose you're right Kaitlyn. I just don't know what else to do. If I sit and let myself think, I keep trying to think of what I did wrong."

"You didn't do anything wrong, honey. This is something that is wrong with Clark, and he needs to deal with it. It has nothing to do with you. When he is done dealing with his problems, he will come back."

Lana sighed again before lifting her head to look at Kaitlyn.

"I hope you are right."

Kaitlyn gave Lana a small smile and grabbed the newspaper from the table behind her. She opened it and what she saw on the first page made her gasp and drop the paper on the table.

"No…it can't be true."

Lana looked up at her friend's shocked face and picked up the newspaper to see what Kaitlyn was talking about.

LEX LUTHOR DEAD

While headed to their honeymoon destination, Mr. and Mrs. Luthor's plane crashed. Mrs. Helen Luthor was able to exit the plane via parachute, but was unable to save her husband before the plane crashed.

Lana gasped and covered her mouth with her hand. She looked up and saw Kaitlyn covering her mouth with both her hands, holding in her silent sobs. Kaitlyn fell out of her chair to her knees on the floor and moved her hands from her mouth to her hair.

"No. No this can't be happening. He can't be dead. No. No…" she began to mutter to no one in particular.

Lana moved to the floor and wrapped her arm around Kaitlyn as she began to wail. She pulled Kaitlyn's head to her shoulder and made soothing noises to quiet her. Kaitlyn sobbed into Lana's shoulder as she felt her heart shattering into a million pieces.

Another week later, Kaitlyn found herself standing beside the grave of yet another man that she loved. Joshua's car seat sat at her feet and she looked down at it sadly.

"I'm so sorry Lex. I wish I had told you about Joshua. Had I known that you would be gone, I wouldn't have postponed it for so long. He looks just like you. He even has red hair, just like your mom."

Deb walked up behind her daughter and placed her hand on her shoulder.

"I'm sure Lex would have loved him, honey. As he grows up, you can tell Joshua that his father would have loved him very much. Just like your father loved you, even though he had so little time with you."

"Dad had six years with me, Lex didn't even know Joshua exists. I will regret that for the rest of my life."

Deb kissed her daughter's cheek and picked up Joshua's car seat.

"He loved you, and Joshua is a part of you. Even if he didn't know, he would love him just the same."

She handed Kaitlyn a tissue and walked back to the car, leaving Kaitlyn alone at Lex's grave. Kaitlyn placed her hand on Lex's tombstone.

"I will do my best to raise him right Lex. I will tell him all about you and about how much I loved you. I promise."

Kaitlyn turned around to walk away when she saw Helen standing a few feet away. Helen looked angry and her eyes were filled with hate for Kaitlyn.

"Helen, I'm so sorry about Lex…"

Kaitlyn didn't get to finish her sentence before Helen interrupted her.

"How dare you? You had the chance to have Lex's child and you didn't even feel the need to share it with him. You, a fling that he had. You got to have his child. I am his wife! I got to be his wife for less than a day before he was taken from me! I never got the chance to have a child with my husband. You have the nerve to say that you loved him when all you did was lie to him!"

Before Kaitlyn could say anything in return, Helen stormed off towards her car. Kaitlyn felt the tears running down her face before she knew that she was crying. She wiped her eyes with the tissue that Deb had given her and walked in the direction that her mother had gone a few minutes before.

Neither of the women noticed that Lionel had returned to the gravesite after his storm out earlier. He heard the entire conversation and stood there watching Kaitlyn walk away.

"I have a grandson. Well this was unexpected," he said aloud to himself.

Lionel turned to Lex's gravestone with a puzzled expression before walking to his wife's grave.

"Well Lillian, it looks like I have another mess to clean up."

After returning from the funeral, Kaitlyn sat in her living room staring at a stack of pictures sitting on the coffee table. There were three pictures total. One picture was of herself, her brother, and their parents. It had been taken at a party a few weeks before the meteor shower. The second picture on the stack was a picture of her with Lex at her grad party. Her mom had insisted on taking a picture of the two of them together. Both pictures portrayed the happy life she could have had. Kaitlyn picked up the third picture and smiled sadly. It was the first ultrasound picture she had of Joshua. She looked back to the picture of her and Lex, imagining that he would have had that same smile on his face if he had been with her when she got the ultrasound done.

"We could have been a family. But life has a habit of tearing families apart."

Kaitlyn's thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. She place the ultrasound picture back on the pile and got up to answer the door. She opened the door and saw a person she really didn't want to see.

"Lionel Luthor. What can I do for you? I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I have no more happiness for you to strip away at the moment," she said bitterly to the man in front of her.

Lionel raised his eyebrow but dismissed her bitter greeting.

"As I have come to find out, it appears that we share a common descendant. It appears that you have become a mother to my grandchild."

Kaitlyn stared at Lionel in shock.

"How on earth did you find out about my son?"

"I overheard your conversation with my daughter-in-law at my son's funeral. I see even after death, I still need to clean up my son's messes."

Lionel took his checkbook out of his pocket and prepared himself to write a check.

"How much money do you want to help care for my grandson?"

Kaitlyn shook her head in disgust.

"My son is not a mess for you to come clean up Lionel. Lex didn't know I was pregnant and I chose to have it that way. He didn't leave a mess, as you would put it. I don't need help from you. I am going to raise my son my own way and teach him to live in a way different from the Luthors of the world."

Lionel laughed softly to himself as he slipped his checkbook back into his pocket.

"You know, you sound just like another stubborn parent I know. Too prideful to accept help from us Luthors. If you insist on living this life, my dear, then all the power to you. My grandson is a Luthor though, and Luthor genes run deep. You can't protect him from everything in the world. Eventually he will branch out. He will realize his potential and those Luthor traits will break through."

Kaitlyn pointed towards Lionel's car in the driveway.

"Get away from me and my family. If I never see you again, I will be happy. You ruined my life Lionel. I loved your son and you forced me to give him up. Look where that got him. He's dead now! Just leave me and my son alone and go fix your own family, rather than worrying about mine."

With that, Kaitlyn slammed the door in Lionel's face and stormed up to her bedroom.

A/N: This chapter ended up being a bit longer than I thought it would be. Any of you who have watched the show should know that Lex isn't really dead. But his death gave me the chance for Kaitlyn to tell Lionel how she feels. He's always meddling where he shouldn't. New chapter will be posted on Monday or tomorrow! Please review!
