Chapter 21

Two days passed and everyone was getting really worried about Sam, his condition hadn't changed in the least.

''Hannibal, we need to get Sam out of here and to a hospital.'' Murdock told him, Hannibal knew that they all did but Murdock was the first one to speak up about it.

''I know Captain, get everything ready guys. I'm going to talk to David and the others.'' Hannibal responded, they did so and he left their tent to talk to the explorers in their tent.

''Hannibal, has there been a change?'' Eric asked eagerly when Hannibal entered the tent.

''No, there hasn't. That's actually what I wanted to talk to all of you about. We're going to bring Sam to a hospital in the States to be checked over by a doctor, something is definitely wrong since he hasn't woken in a couple of days. I'm sorry but we're going to have to abort our mission here, Sam needs us.'' He responded.

Eric, Wade and Abby all nodded, ''We understand, do what you have to do Colonel.'' Eric spoke for all of them.

''Hold it Eric, I'm in charge here!'' David growled at him before turning to Hannibal.

''I hired you and your team to do a job, you're not leaving until you finish it.'' He told him.

''We choose who we work for pal, and as of now we are no longer working for you.'' Hannibal remarked and left the tent, outside the two jeeps were ready to go.

''Good luck!'' Eric called as the team drove out of sight.

They made Sam and B.A as comfortable as they could in their seats before taking off; Hannibal and Face stayed close to Sam in case anything changed.

I groaned my head hurt so bad, ''Sam, can you hear me?'' a voice said to me.

Opening my eyes, I saw two blurred men in front of me. ''Who's Sam?'' I asked but before I could hear an answer everything went dark again.

''He's out again, Hannibal, what'd he mean by 'Who's Sam?' ?'' Face said to Hannibal confused.

''I think Sam has amnesia, Face.'' Hannibal replied gravely, he'd been afraid of this.

''You mean, he doesn't remember anything?!'' Face exclaimed rather shocked, he knew that stuff like that could happen but he didn't believe it would ever happen to one of them.

''Sam has amnesia?'' Murdock asked, he'd heard some of the conversation so he put the plane on auto pilot to see what was going on.

Hannibal nodded, answering both of his men's questions. ''It seems so but we'll have a better idea the next time he wakes up.'' He told them.

Murdock grabbed himself a seat, he wanted to be there for his friend and right now nothing else mattered to him.

When I awoke again three men were in front of me, watching me and I didn't like it at all. ''Get away from me!'' I told them as loud as I could. They backed up a little but not much.

''Easy, we're your friends.'' One of them said, a blue hat on his head.

''I don't remember any of you, or anything for that matter.'' I said after trying to remember and only getting more pain in my head. ''Where are we? Who am I?'' I asked them.

''We're flying back to the United States to bring you to a hospital Sam, you're hurt.'' A guy with white hair answered me.

''Sam, that's my name?'' I said trying it out, it sounded normal and plain. He nodded.

''So who are you guys?'' I asked.

''I'm Hannibal Smith, that's Face and Murdock.'' The white haired guy said, so he was Hannibal, the blue cap was Murdock and the guy who hadn't spoken yet was Face. Funny name, I chuckled a little.

''What is it Sam?'' Murdock asked me.

''Face, it's a funny name.'' I said.

''It's a nickname,'' Face said in defense. ''My real name is Templeton Peck.'' He told me.

I nodded, and winced at the pain in my head.

''Get some more rest Sam, we'll be landing in a little while anyway.'' Hannibal said.

''Alright.'' I told him and settled in to sleep once again.

''Hannibal, this isn't good. Sam doesn't remember anything at all, everything we've all been through together gone.'' Face spoke after Sam had drifted off.

''You need to look at the positive side Face, at least he isn't fighting us or ignoring us.'' Hannibal told him, although he too was worried if Sam's memories were gone forever.

Murdock had returned to the cockpit after making sure Sam was alright on the outside he put on a brave face, but on the inside though it was tearing him up to see his friend like this; no clue about who was who, where he was, what was happening to him.

At the hospital they were able to take x-rays and examine Sam while he slept, the team had to wait outside in the waiting room. B.A had been caught up to speed when he'd woken up in the van, so now they all had the same worry and anxiety about Sam.

''Hello, I'm Dr. Morgan. Please come with me to my office.'' The doctor told them, they followed him and once they reached the office waited for him to speak.

''Mr. Porter does indeed have amnesia, as you suspected due to his head injury. We have yet to tell whether it is short memory, long term memory or both; we will see once he awakens again. In the meantime I advise all of you to go get some rest, there is nothing you can do right now.'' Dr. Morgan explained.

''We're staying with our friend.'' Hannibal stated firmly leaving no question that it wasn't a request but an order that they be allowed to stay.

''Of course.'' Dr. Morgan agreed in understanding, he'd make the arrangements for them to have a private room big enough for all of them and Sam.

I awoke in a bright room, everything was white and there was a bunch of stuff around me; one thing was hooked up to me with a needle. Looking around I saw four guys in the room with me, talking quietly among themselves. But they kept their distance which was a good thing to me.

Someone came into the room and continued towards me, ''Keep away!'' I warned them.

''It's alright, I won't hurt you. Sam, do you remember anything?'' she said.

''No, I don't and who's Sam?'' I said confused, why didn't I remember anything? Who was this woman and those guys?

The woman swallowed, this seemed to be painful for her. ''You're Sam, you had a head injury which has caused you to have amnesia; memory loss.''

'Well that explains a few things.' I thought to myself. ''Are you a doctor?'' I asked.

"No, but I am a nurse and I know what I'm talking about here. Oh Sam, if only you could remember me." She said her voice getting higher before she broke down crying.

The man with white hair put his arm around her shoulders and led her away from me, while one man left the room and another wearing a leather jacket appeared in front of me.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset her. Who is she anyway?" I told him.

"I know, it's not your fault; it's just really hard for her to watch you go through this. That's Heather, your half-sister." He said, his voice was kind and gentle.

"Oh, do I have any other family?" I asked wondering if anyone else was upset over what had happened to me.

"Not that we know of, except us guys of course. So you don't remember nothing at all? Childhood, army days, friends, anything?" he replied.

"I already said no!" I replied angrily.

The guy's hands went up in the air, "Alright, take it easy I was just checking. Listen the doctor will be here any minute to talk to you, and I want you to know that no matter how hard it is or how long it takes; I will help you get your memory back buddy."

I didn't say anything to that because I wasn't sure what to say, thankfully he didn't mind and the doctor came in soon afterwards.

"Hello Sam, I'm Dr. Morgan and I'll be in charge of your medical treatment. How are you doing?" he said.

"Alright, no real pain but it's confusing all the information and questions at one time." I told him.

He nodded, "Fair enough, the amnesia has caused you to loose short and long term memories. Now how you proceed with this is your choice, and here are the two options that I'd advise for you. Option 1; Try to recover your memories by talking with friends and family, visiting places, seeing and doing familiar things. Option 2; Make new memories, start anew. Most patients prefer the first option even though it takes longer, the choice is up to you."
