THE BLACK EAGLE

Chapter 20: I Hate Blizzards!

SOMEWHERE UP NORTH

Remus Lupin was racing ahead in his wolf form. It was one of the things he loves the most as a werewolf. Being that he can adjust his Animagus form to the size of the werewolf or just remain a normal wolf. In this area however being a Werewolf seems the best way for transport.

The wilds of the far northern continent of North America left little to the imagination. His paws hit the snow without falling to far down thanks to his overly large pads. On his back the Miles's held on as he raced across the frozen ocean towards their destination.

He guessed right when the Mentor had given him this mission. His animagus form fit perfectly in with the surrounding tundra and given the circumstances comes in handy when transporting people across the frozen wastes. The frozen ocean provides the best way to travel and thankfully it was the middle of winter so the ocean will not break for some time.

"We are getting close!" William Miles shouted over the blowing snow.

Being unable to see in the dark. Both William and his wife Amelia had to rely on Remus to guide the way. The magical Assassin has proven to be a valuable part in this mission. Seeing as he can call upon the Wolf's night vision instead of eagle vision has helped to navigate through the blizzard.

"Remus we have to stop the storm is getting worse!" Amelia called.

Remus nodded and searched for shelter.

He had found a cave not far from where Amelia made the announcement. It was a small cave and Remus made sure there were not bears or other creatures lurking. When they settled down Remus had cast a spell to shelter them from the storm. Then turning back into his true form Remus then dug a pit when he reached the Miles family.

The pit was then lit with a small fire one that he had created using magic. The fire won't burn through the ice but it will keep the occupants warm. Using a heating spell also helped in warming them up from the cold.

"So how far are we from the site?" Remus asked.

"We have another two hundred miles to go before we get there," William said looking at his map.

"What do we do when we get there?" Amelia asked.

"We make sure that the Templars don't mess with the site. It is bad enough that Achilles did that more then two hundred years ago," William replied.

"Aye Lass, doing that he nearly caused the same issue that Shay Cormac did. Even if there are no cities here the catastrophe that he could have caused would have been devastating," Remus replied.

"I remember," Amelia replied then sighed, "I just rather be at home celebrating Christmas with our son rather then be this far north."

"Aye, I wish I was at home myself seeing James's son after all these years," Remus replied.

"James? James who?" William asked now that they are talking to pass the time.

"James Potter an Assassin like us, but also a magical. We were at the same den together along with several other magical recruits. Severus was one of them." Remus replied.

"I see, so how do they find Magicals then might I ask? In case we come across more of them in the future?" William asked.

"Well they do a test to see if the child can produce magic. If they suspect that the child can produce magic it is a matter of stress or making the child perform some task that requires magic. I myself never needed to since they discovered that I was a werewolf. Others like James and Sirius Black whom you've met a few times. Came from Magical families and by their dress were easy to distinguish since their clothes never left the 19th century. Lily and Severus however because they both came from Mundane families had to take the test...well in Severus's case. Lily and her sister Petunia were part of a family that was an ally to the Assassins. I don't know much about it because it was only mentioned briefly by our mentor at the time. But when it was discovered that Lily was magical they had her do the tests. Severus was a half magical because his mother was a witch and his father a mundane. So he had to take the test immediately after we were brought to the den." Remus replied.

They all sat down near the fire drinking some tea that Remus provided. He also had them take a pepper up potion which helped in keeping them warm. The snow continued to blow outside the cave. The howling winds only made them huddle closer together.

"At least I put a spell on top to keep the polar bears out," Remus replied.

"That is good," William said allowing himself to relax a bit.

"So how do we get there? Even thought it is at least two hundred miles north still. We have much more ground to cover," Amelia said.

"Well we have to get to the shores of the northern most tip of Greenland which is here." William pointed on his map.

"Kap Morris Jesup which is the Northern most Tip. From there it is a matter of finding the Temple which is buried beneath the ice." With that he pointed to the possible location.

"The wizarding town of Is By is there. The only shit part about it is that it is controlled by Templars." Remus replied.

"Fuck! How do we get through that!" William said.

"Not easy but being that I am a werewolf they would not want my presence there more," Remus replied.

"But aren't werewolves a rarity here in the arctic?" Amelia asked.

"They are but the Lycanthrope Disease is still present. Only it manifest itself into bears so we have to deal with werebears," Remus replied.

"Fuck!" William said.

"The good thing is, is that the disease is rare even up here. The Werebears tend to keep to themselves and are not aggressive like their southern cousins. I've had a few run ins with them myself when I was doing a few missions up here. They are mainly from the Inuit tribes that reside nearby," Remus said.

"That is good but how do we get close enough to the town without being seen?" asked Amelia.

"We head here just west of the town," Remus said.

"Why here?" asked Amelia.

"There is an Inuit village just west of here. They hate the Templars as much as they hate the wizards that reside in Is By." Remus replied.

"Why is that? I thought Shay was on good terms with them?" William asked.

"He was but the Templar who came after him was not. A greedy bastard and a man with no respect for the other cultures. We know him well as Mormont Dumbledore the grandfather of Albus Dumbledore. The fucker pissed off the Inuit when he drilled for oil sometime ago." Remus replied.

"Wait? How can that man be Dumbledore's grandfather if Shay lived nearly two hundred years ago?" Amelia asked.

"Magicals can live up to three hundred years if they are lucky. But mostly they live just under two hundred," Remus replied.

William's eyes went wide with that revelation.

"Altair Ibn-La'Ahad would have lived to be around two hundred plus; to nearly three hundred if he was not using the Apple of Eden. The Apple drained his magic and thus making him like any other man on earth. Malik was murdered so he did not live past one hundred either. But Darim, Altair's eldest son lived to be about one hundred and seventy four when he died. Ezio Auditore lived to be about one hundred and sixty six, and Connor Kenway lived till 1956 before he finally passed away." Remus replied

"Bullshit!" William said.

"No it is true I am not lying to you he died in 1956. He changed his name many times throughout the years to keep his identity hidden. After all who would want to know that an Assassin from the 18th century was still alive in the 20th?" Remus replied.

"Holy fucken shit!" William said in shock.

"Connor died under the name James Davenport in Riverport Massachusetts. He wanted his ashes to be scattered where his people had once lived back in the 18th century. And every sixty years or so he would change his name so that way no one will know who he was." Remus replied.

"Connor Kenway! My ancestor was still alive!" William proclaimed.

"Yep, the magic within us slows our aging so we may look like we are twenty, but we could actually be forty," Remus said.

"Damn!" William said too shocked to care.

"So Desmond will still look as young as those street kids when we are nothing but old cripples?" Amelia replied.

"Yep," Remus said nodding.

The Miles couple became silent after that. They began to contemplate what would happen to their son once he reaches maturity. And what would happen when he becomes a full adult.

This eventually led them to become tired and lean against one another for support. Remus then pulled out his sleeping bag which he had charmed to keep him warm. The Miles family also pulled out their sleeping bags. Forget tents since they are obviously in a cave. Remus gladly added the same heating spell to their sleeping bags. Soon the fire was still high but it did not give any light past the cave and it did not go out.

HOGWARTS WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY

"Enter!" the not so gentle voice of Professor Albus Dumbledore said to the person he knows is on the other side.

A small head peeped in and Albus instantly recognized Peter Pettigrew.

"Ah Peter come in, come in! How fares the hunt for the Assassin Dens?" Dumbledore asked as Peter made himself comfortable on his chair.

"It is going very smoothly we have so far eliminated two hundred Assassin Dens across Europe sir." Peter said.

"And do they suspect your presence?" Dumbledore asked.

"No, they do not. Many do not suspect a rat would literally lead them to their deaths," Peter replied.

"Good any new locations I might be aware of?" Dumbledore said.

"Why yes sir I have the list right here of the many Assassin Dens here in the United Kingdom," Peter replied and handed a list to Dumbledore who looked more then pleased. Every hundred years or so the Templars go into an Assassin hunt in the U.K. Hunting down every Assassin and home they had. Along with wiping out their families to the point of near extinction. When it comes to children who are too young to be able to remember their parents. The Templars have them be raised amongst wizarding families who have no idea of the war going on around them. Making them grow up ignorant and then if they show potential; integrate them into the Templar ranks.

That was how the Wizarding families of Europe gave in to the Templars. They never knew that the the magical bloodlines of the Assassins had been extinguished only to vitalize the Templar's own. Dumbledore and his ancestors ensured that the hunts continue to eliminate the Assassins from Europe. He after all he is descended from some of the most dangerous and influential Templars in history.

Looking at the list Dumbledore grew very pleased with himself, "You have done well Peter this information has it been confirmed?" he said.

"Oh yes my lord Daniel has infiltrated the Assassins under the guise of another. We have scouted out all the entrances and exits the Assassins have. We also have fed the same information to the Abstergo Sigma teams for eradication." Peter replied.

"Are you sure that none of them are magical?" he asked.

"Yes sir so far none of them show any signs of magic. We have done thorough tests to ensure they do not possess any form of magic. We are still looking however for any signs of magical Assassins but so far none in the United Kingdom," Peter replied.

"Very well but keep searching they might have them hidden somewhere where we least expect them. So be cautious Peter you are our best tracker," Dumbledore said and Peter nodded before heading out.

Dumbledore rubbed the ring on his finger. The charm was enchanted to ensure that the spell placed on Peter remained intact. Peter does not know of his true origins thus is the power of the Imperious Curse. Albus Dumbledore had first discovered that Peter Pettigrew was a spy for the Ministry of Magic. When he and several other Templars were found near the Riddle Mansion. They were conducting a meeting when Tom Riddle's pet Nagini stumbled upon Peter's animagus form. Having been discovered the Templars could not sacrifice such a potential spy. So they turned the tides against him when they poured the truth serum down his throat. They also tortured him till he finally revealed the best revelation of all.

He was an Assassin!

Not just an Assassin but a magical one.

Such a rarity was something that delighted Dumbledore and his cohorts to no ends. That means that they are on the verge of finding out more about their hated enemies then they are with finally getting rid of them.

Using dark magic to their whims they managed to trap and curse Peter. Changing his memories to suit their own needs, and by casting the Imperious curse on him. They made him their own servant.

Peter had done well over the years. Ensuring that the Templars are able to track down and destroy the many Assassin Dens in Europe. That freed them from the magical realms and thus allowing Magic to remain hidden unlike the rest of the world. It keeps the common folk ignorant of the war. And it allows the Templars to have full control of the magical world.

When it was found out that someone had a Piece of Eden with them. They sent Tom out to find it. What they found was that there was a prophecy attached to the item. Professor Trelawney of Hogwarts was the one who incited the prophecy. Once heard Dumbledore sent Peter out to find the Piece of Eden and to bring it back to them. What they discovered was that the Potter Family had it. In doing so they had entrusted Peter with their secret location. Not knowing of their friends betrayal. The Potters had lived in safety.

Well that night Tom Riddle decided to pay them a visit which turned sour really fast.

Tom being who he is was sent by Dumbledore to retrieve the Piece of Eden. In doing so he met much resistance from the Potters. However what Dumbledore was not prepared for was Lily Potter reciting an ancient protection spell on her son. By doing so she managed to sacrifice herself to protect her baby from Tom's killing curse. Tom managed to get the Piece of Eden from her only to find that the baby was still alive.

Once he gave the Piece to Peter to transport it back to Dumbledore. He went to kill the baby to ensure that there are no survivors. What he did not plan on was the curse backfiring on him and turning him into a vaporous form instead.

It was by luck that he was not totally destroyed. Breaking his soul into many pieces had done wonders to prevent his death. However it also left him without any memories of what happened before his demise. So any memories of the events up to his death are blurry at best. In fact his memories of that night were so jumbled that Dumbledore has a hard enough time to decipher anything from the man.

So he let things be for now. But one day he will find out what transpired that night. And to ensure that it does not happen again.

"You are dismissed Peter continue the good work," Dumbledore said.

Peter bowed low before leaving the office to continue his search for the Assassin Dens. That left Dumbledore to pull out the amulet that he had in his possession. He stared at it for quite a while unsure as to what to do with it. He saw the strange symbols on it and knew what it was when Peter gave it to him all those years ago. That this was a Piece of Eden the one that they will use to unlock the memories of the Assassins and locate the other pieces. It was known as the memory stone and its powers allow one to see into the distant past through your bloodlines. It was the final piece to finding the rest of the Pieces of Eden.

But first they have to prefect the technology needed to be compatible with it. That is what the Italian Branch is for. They are the heads of research and development into genetic memory. Now that they have the means to get it. All they need now is a way for it to be safe. Tucking it safely into his desk and locking it up tight Dumbledore turned towards his ever so faithful familiar. The one who stared back at him with eyes full of hate.

"Now, now don't look at me that way Fawkes. Everything is going according to plan. Now if you don't mind I have someplace important I would rather be," he said and vanished with distilled air.

SOMEWHERE IN THE ARCTIC

The blizzard had finally passed and Remus was the first to wake. William and Amelia were next and from the looks of it Amelia was not happy at all.

"What is it?" Remus asked.

"Today is Christmas Day, and we are not at home to celebrate with Desmond," Amelia said sadly.

"I am sure he is fine! Severus had taken him back to England with him to spend some time with his Godson," Remus replied.

"I am just worried that is all since he is our only child," Amelia said.

William then put his arm around his wife's shoulder offering her some form of comfort. She leaned into him while Remus finished packing up and hiding any evidence of them being here.

"Ready?" Remus asked though it was in his eyes that he was just as worried as them.

"Yes," both Miles said.

Walking out Remus resumed his werewolf form and the couple climbed onto his back. Resuming their journey further North through the dark frozen tundra. The midday moon shown brightly in the sky. As they ran across the ice Remus moved far too fast for the ice to break. As he ran he saw a few polar bears out and about looking for a midnight snack.

The bears stared at the wolf, but the wolf moved too fast for them to even consider it.

As they ran across the snowy tundra they just hoped that they are not too late to stop the Templars.

When they finally made it to their destination. The village before them was sparse but it was still alive. Already they could see smoke rising from the many igloos and chimney's that they made out in the snow. Remus let out a howl to let them know he is approaching. An answering horn was sounded as Remus stopped just at the border to their lands.

A figure emerged from the village. This one rode a polar bear out to greet them. He was of course an Inuit of magical origins. One that the villagers call a shaman. This man was followed by several others on snow ski's. They stopped just in front of the wolf and the people who ride him.

"State your business!" the one on the Polar Bear said.

"We seek shelter from the snow for we are making our way north," William stated.

"For what purpose?" the polar bear rider said.

William raised his left hand and lowered his ring finger. Turning his hand around he gave the sign of the Assassins.

Knowing the sign the Polar Bear rider nodded and then waved them through. The bear turned and rode back towards the village. The people in the village ran to greet them as they rode in on Remus. When they were brought to the largest of the Igloos. They dismounted from Remus allowing him to return to his human form. The Inuit that surrounded the igloo then allowed them to enter.

When they entered there were already several people surrounding a fire ready to receive their guests. At the center was of course the clan chief and the other elders of the village. When they sat down another man entered this one they recognized as the rider of the polar bear. He whispered into the Chief's ear and the Chief nodded back. The man backed away and exited the Igloo leaving the Assassins at the mercy of the Elders.

"I know why you are here," the Chief said his voice raspy as if he has spent his life screaming.

"What is it we are here for?" William asked.

"You were sent by your Mentor to find and secure the Temple of the ancients. To see if the Templars are still honoring the agreement made by Shay Cormac two hundred years ago," the Chief said.

"How do you still remember it?" Amelia asked.

"Our elders have passed this knowledge down through the generations. They told us the story of what has happened to Shay Cormac. And we have never forgotten what he asked us to do even though he was a Templar. Mormont Dumbledore came right after Shay defeated Achilles in the Temple. He demanded that we hand over the secrets of the temple. Of course we refused so he tried to destroy our village with his dark magic. But our shaman held him off and he left only to return numerous times. Each time we held him back. But now his descendant Albus Dumbledore wants the power in the Temple. He will stop at nothing to get to it. He even sent powerful shaman to keep us away from his plans," The Chief said.

"Thank you for your help," William said.

"My people hate their kind as much as you do. They have cause nothing but trouble here in the Far North. They have even set up their oil rigs on our fishing grounds. The fish have been poisoned by their digging. They have no regards for the consequences," the Chief replied.

"We shall see what we can do about the Temple. If we do see the rig that is poisoning your grounds and that is a bit IF. Then we shall deal with it as we see fit." William replied.

"I know you shall," the Chief said

As it turns out they had some shelter in an underground guest house in one of the other Igloos. It was nice and warm and they didn't have to cast any spells for warmth. In fact it was warm enough to strip out of their outer parka's. There was even a bath for them to soak in. The place had modern accommodations just enough for them to warm up and get some rest.

After sweeping the area for bugs just in case. The three Assassins laid out their maps and began planning.

"Ok so Dumbledore who is he?" William asked Remus.

"He is Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and Grandmaster of the Magical Templars in Europe. He is a cunning and dangerous wizard William so if we are going after his goons we have to be careful that I am not discovered." Remus replied.

"Why?" William asked.

"Because if I am discovered to be an Assassin. Then chances are when I go back to England I will be a wanted man," Remus replied.

"Alright then we have to make sure you are not. But how do we proceed from here?" William asked.

Just as he said it there was a knock on the door. Amelia was the one who answered the door. Getting up she walked up to the door and opened it. There was one of the elders standing there in the cold. By then the winds have started to blow and the blizzard started to set in.

"Can I help you?" she asked.

"I wish to speak to you," he said in a raspy voice.

Nodding Amelia let him in.

The elderly man slowly entered the Igloo and shut the door behind him. Walking slowly in he made himself comfortable near the fire in the middle. Unlike the normal small igloos the ones in these villages were a lot larger but they still served their purpose. The old man set himself down and relaxed near the flames. His old wrinkled features seem to gaze into the flames for a bit as if remembering days long gone.

"I remember when I first came here to this village. It was so long ago. And after I retired I returned here to make sure that Shay Cormac's promise was kept. So far both sides have kept to the agreement," the old man said.

"What have you to tell us old man?" asked William.

Slowly the elderly man turned his head and stared at William for a long time.

"You have his eyes it has been many years but you still have his eyes. I can't forget those eyes even after a long time." he said.

"Whose eyes? What is this all about? And what have you to tell us?" asked Amelia.

"It has been a very long time since I have seen a wizard come into these parts. But I would recognize one when I see it," the Elder said.

It was then that Remus suddenly saw his coat and the insignia on it. Rising he went for his gun but the man only held up his hand.

"There is no need to do that my friend. I am far too old for this conflict," the elder said and gestured for Remus to sit down.

"Why should we trust you Templar," Amelia grumbled.

"Because I was the one who made the agreement in the first place," the elder said.

Remus's eyes lit up in shock! He could barely recognize the man in front of him but sure enough recognition dawned on him.

"You're Shay Cormac!" he said.

William and Amelia looked up in shock at the elder before him.

"Aye, its been years since I've last talked to one of my own kind. But life here has been peaceful. I knew I had to hide away from the world when it became apparent that I aged slower then any member of my crew. They knew who and what I was but still when the time came I came here." Shay said.

"What do you want Templar?" asked Remus.

"The same as you to ensure that Albus Dumbledore does not tamper with the temple. Connor Kenway came here right before he died to tell me of the danger that these grounds are in. Albus has no respect for the agreement that was forged. He does not agree to the treaty just like his father and grandfather before him. That bastard would rather see to it that this ground be exploited for his own use." Shay said.

"And what have you to say about it?" asked Remus.

"I have many things to say about it! Who do you think keeps those who would violate the agreement away. I am the one who placed those wards here. Just to make sure that they honor the agreement. But time to time there are those who wish to seek the temple's power for themselves. Not realizing that to do so would compromise the agreement and cause great harm to those in the South." Shay said.

"Can't you stop them? You are a Templar after all?" Amelia said.

"They will not listen to a two hundred sixty year old man. To them I am nothing more then a fossil! A relic of a time long ago. And I can feel my time is near but at least there are those who would to protect the agreement." Shay replied looking at the Assassins.

"That is one of the reasons why we are here," Remus said.

"And I bet the other is to find out why they are here in the first place," Shay replied.

"That is it," William said.

"Well I can give you that much in the way of information. It is the least I can do," Shay replied.

"Well how do we know if he is lying?" Amelia said.

"Because he cares more for this place then most believe," Remus replied.

"Alright here is what I know..."

THE NEXT DAY

Since it was the middle of winter in the Arctic the sun never rises with the time. So when the alarm went off the Assassins headed out at what normally would be first light. Shay saw them out the next day wishing them good luck on their journey.

Remus was of course the pack horse while William and Amelia held on. The wolf thankfully was kept warm by his thick fur coat while the Miles had charmed parkas. The journey took them about three hours till at last they reached the sight. A mighty glacier amiss the sea of ice. An ice breaker ship stood nearby while people off loaded equipment from its deck. Already scientists from all over had set up equipment to study the readings on the temple walls.

Setting up camp themselves they stood just outside the wards.

"Shay must have used some very powerful magic to keep them out," said William.

"Yeah since they are camped out here. According to Shay they are using ward breakers to try and work around the wards. They consist of mostly scientists so I bet that not even the higher ups at Abstergo are aware of what Dumbledore is doing," Amelia stated.

"Oh they know alright, but I bet they are too scared to deal with Dumbledore. After all he is far older then them and he is a very powerful wizard," Remus replied.

"Either that or they don't fucken care," William stated.

"True," the other two said.

Using a pair of binoculars or in Remus's case a vision enhancing spell they managed to spy on a few people in the crowd.

"Oh shit! They are using goblins to break the wards!" Remus said seeing the strange people there along side the regular curse breakers.

"Shay must have put one hell of an enchantment to block the entrance!" William stated.

Sure enough they watched as the group of Templars worked tirelessly to break through the wards. Their efforts were tearing a hole in the now visible barrier that separates them from their goals.

"How do we stop them?" asked Amelia.

"We need to make sure the Goblins are free," Remus said as he zoomed in on one Goblin.

"I knew it!" Remus said.

"What?" William asked.

"The Imperious Curse! Those goblins are not willing individuals. For the Goblin Nation has been strong allies to the Assassins for generations. We helped them gain some rights to fight as equals in this war. But the Templars had stolen their rights to hold wands and crushed any rebellions made by them. Though today however they have strongly allied themselves with the Assassin cause because we have given them something they craved...equality. They and several other magical races have fought for their rights for centuries but it was the Templars who suppressed them." Remus said.

"Ok, so how do we free them?" asked William.

"We need to find the one who is controlling them," Remus said.

In an instant he turned to Eagle Vision and watched everyone turn red. He searched out anyone who might be his target. It was about twenty minutes later that he finally spotted who he was looking for.

The man was shining a bright gold in Remus's vision. When he returned to normal vision he spotted the man had a wand about him. So that makes him a magical, and a powerful one at that to control Goblins. The Goblins were busy commanding the wards to bend but from the effort the wards were proving difficult. Remus used that opportunity to move closer. When he got close enough to see his target he was surprised that the person who was in front of him was showing signs of strain.

He must have to really concentrate to control the Goblins,Remus thought.

"So how does this work that guy over there controls them?" William whispered next to him.

"The curse he is evoking on the Goblins takes a high amount of concentration. Unless he has another means to keep them under his power like an enchanted item or a Piece of Eden. The Goblins can easily break free of his spell. Goblins by nature are a proud people and because of their pride their will is strong. So when someone like say a wizard comes in and tries to take over a Goblin's mind with the Imperious Curse. Then it normally won't work unless the caster has a very high concentration or is just a very powerful wizard like Dumbledore himself." Remus said.

"So if it takes concentration to hold the Goblins at bay. Then what happens when we break it?" Amelia asked.

"The spell will weaken but it still will be strong enough to keep the Goblins under their control. No the only way to end it is to kill the caster and by the looks of it he has some sort of object in his hand to boost his magical prowess," Remus replied.

"Ok maybe if I can get somewhere where I can't be spotted I can snipe him with my rifle," Amelia said.

"That's a good idea that way you will be far enough away from the backlash when his concentration breaks," Remus replied.

"I will deal with the other guards when she does pull the trigger," William said holding up a few grenades.

"I will resume my animal form just in case they have someone from the Order of the Phoenix. Dumbledore's little posy might be around so be sure to keep your eye on that wizard," Remus said and the two normal assassin's watched as Remus morphed back into his wolf form.

Amelia immediately went to the highest point she can get while staying in range of her target.

William snuck closer to the area with Remus ready to strike. Remus being a wolf used his stealth magic to sneak up on them. Though stealth magic is a Native American technique taught by wolves or so they say. Remus had learned to perfect this technique. He remained invisible to the naked eye while he silently killed two guards. Dragging their bodies towards a designated hiding spot. The werewolf tossed the bodies down a crack in the ice and listened to them fall down towards the ocean.

Creeping along he and William waited till the time is right before they struck.

They crept up closer towards their target both man and wolf remained hidden from view.

Just as they gotten within range that was when things went wrong.

Gunshots could be heard from far as both Remus and William dove for cover.

"ASSASSIN'S KILL THEM!" someone shouted.

"Fuck! How did they know we are here?" William said.

Remus returned to human form, "Either we passed through a few unknown wards or they have an animagus with them!" Remus said.

Just as he said it he heard it from the air. A white form swooped down towards them with white wings.

"Damn it even worse a beast speaker!" Remus cursed.

"A what?" William said.

"I will explain later right now we have to deal with that falcon!" Remus said and instead of throwing a knife he also cast a cutting curse at the bird. The bird went down but it was followed by many more as birds of all sorts came flying at them.

"Shit!" William cursed as they dove for cover.

They can't get anywhere near their target now. The birds were the only things able to get this high on the glacier. It was too steep for Polar Bears...the sound of a roar filled the ears of both men.

Several large polar bears came charging into the ice forcing Amelia from her spot. The two male assassins ran out of their cover and became under fire. William was shot in the leg and Remus was forced to change into his werewolf form to save him. Grabbing onto his cloak William held on while Remus leaped over the bears snapping at a few of them. William took out his grenade and threw it at the target. The man just kicked it and it exploded in midair. Causing a cave in of sorts.

Amelia was quickly running down the hill firing shots behind her as a polar bear came charging after her on the ice. Tripping and falling she began to roll down the hill. Remus was there in an instant and William scooped her up onto the wolf's back. The wolf began to run while being shot at by both magic and bullets. He also was running from the bears.

Amelia thankfully still had her smaller pistols as she fired back. She shot from her 56 Beretta which was not much but that was all she could do. William fired from his .99 semi and Remus just kept running.

As he ran he howled to the wind hoping someone would hear him. As he ran he spotted some loose ice shelves just off to the lower part of the glacier. Leaping he hoped the ice was thick enough to take his weight.

Thankfully it was.

The bears had stopped, but the birds kept coming. Then a dark shape began to make itself known as it broke the ice.

Fuck! Remus cursed as a sea monster smashed through the ice.

Running as fast as he could across the ice the large fin of the monster chased them. Remus ran as fast as he could, but it was hard to see with all the birds diving down at them.

He tried to go into stealth but he was too tired to hold up the spell for long. As he looked also he spotted several dark vehicles heading his way all of them trying to shoot him.

One bullet grazed his side and he toppled over throwing William and Amelia with him.

The two American Assassins rolled with William shouting in pain. Amelia had several bruises on her face and from the looks of her arm. She won't be shooting anyone anytime soon. Remus stood up on shaky legs growling with his hackles raised. He can't change back into his natural form because that would leave William and Amelia vulnerable. The only thing between them and death is his large furry form.

As the snowmobiles rode around them Remus tried to keep the other two Assassin's safe. He shouted at them using wind magic like he was taught to do by the wolves. But it was useless as they shot him again and again. Remus thankfully tried to take down some of the riders. William managed to shoot a couple of them. But there was so many and the birds did not help either.

Finally when he thought he could not take it any more Remus returned to his natural form. His human body was full of holes. He knew that by returning to his human form that he sealed his fate because it was not as resilient as his wolf form. But if he was going to die out here then he would die an Assassin. He pulled out his wand reading his next stance when the wind suddenly picked up.

The weather up here in the far north was unpredictable. As the star filled sky started to darken again with thick heavy clouds. It had gotten darker and as the winds picked up more a horrible scream was heard. As they looked up they could see nothing but the lights of the snowmobiles. The wind became more intense as the ice suddenly gave way to a different sea monster. This one had an enormous maw as it came crashing out of the ice and breaking the shelf in half. A huge sea battle was going on with the monsters. The Templars had their weapons raised at the Assassins while the one who was looking at the monster was muttering something.

Remus barely could see it but he could make out the mutterings of commands.

So he is the beast speaker! He thought and slowly raised his wand.

"Avada Kadavra!" he said and shot the man dead where he stood. The wizard's eyes went wide as he felt the spell hit him and seize his organs. In an instant life left his eyes and he fell dead.

The birds ceased their attack and flew off into the horizons beyond. Leaving the three Assassins at the mercy of Abstergo's men. As they leveled their weapons the ice began to crack around them. Then like a giant rising from the earth a huge gaping maw opened up and swallowed the three whole. The ice shattered under the snowmobiles and they all were plunged into the ocean.

The air was so cold that the ocean froze once more covering up the attack until nothing was shown.

DUMBLEDORE'S OFFICE HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY

There was a knock at the door to the Headmaster's office.

"Come in!" Dumbledore said.

The door opened to reveal a rather disheveled looking wizard. His skin was slightly ashen and blue as if he was in the cold for a long time.

"Ah Julius come in, come in what can I do for you?" Dumbledore said as the man sat down.

"I came to give you the reports from the Arctic in person sir," the man Julius said.

"And how fares our expedition with Abstergo's finest?" Dumbledore asked.

"Everything went according to plan. We managed to break through the wards that Shay Cormac had installed two hundred years prior. And we had gotten the treasure!" the man said.

"Excellent! The Mirror of Erised is finally in our possession! With it the final test will soon begin. Tell me what condition is the mirror in?" Dumbledore inquired.

"The mirror is in prime condition sir and we avoided all of Cormac's traps and wards. We even dealt with a few assassins but the temple is secured. And the Piece of Eden within its depths is now ours," Julius replied.

"Show me!" Dumbledore said.

Julius clapped his hands and several Goblins appeared each held a corner of the mirror in place. The thin glass shown like water on the ground.

Giggling to himself Dumbledore rose from his chair and walked towards the mirror. The mirror itself began to glow but Dumbledore merely stuck his finger into the surface and it ceased its influence.

"My such power! Oh this will look well on your review Julius. Have the Goblins take the mirror to the specified room that I told you about earlier. That way the wards will prevent it from influencing the students." Dumbledore commanded.

"With pleasure Grandmaster," with that he directed the Goblins out of the room with the mirror.

Dumbledore smiled to himself as he sat back and enjoyed the scene.

BACK IN THE ARCTIC

Golden eyes opened slowly into a world of pain and agony. Remus Lupin returned to the world of the living in nothing but his pants and lots of bandages.

"Easy there lad I did not do all that work only to have you die on me," a familiar Irish voice said.

"Shay?" Remus said slowly.

"Aye, I am here for you laddy. You took quite the beating. It was a long time since I took that form and I'm glad I did. At least you've gotten rid of the Beast Speaker that bugger was a major pain!" Shay said with some humor in his voice.

Remus could only groan. The pain of smiling even weakly was too much for the werewolf.

"Now don't mind me I just patched you up after your failed attempt to stop Dumbledore's men from stealing the sacred object," Shay replied.

"I'm sorry we tried..." Remus began.

"Now don't get started with me laddy! I understand, you tried! You all did and you fought well! It was not your fault that they managed to catch you by surprise!" Shay replied as he dipped a cloth into some icy water. He passed it to Remus's head and the werewolf winced in pain.

"You were hit many times by those bullets. Now if they were silver you've had a longer time to recover. Even though you mastered the wolf within silver is still poison to your kind," Shay said as he cleaned Remus's wounds. "You were lucky however that they were not anticipating a werewolf," he said.

"Thank God for that!" Remus groaned.

"Now then let me see," Shay said and Remus gladly shown his belly to him. Shay inspected the wounds without much hassle. His silver hair reflecting the firelight. Remus just let the other man work his magic. He poured a potion that he had brought with him into a cup to give to Remus.

"Here you go Lad. Drink up! It will stave off any infection and help in the healing process." Shay said.

"Where are my friends?" Remus asked.

"They are fine not as bad off as ye. Mr. William Miles is recover from a couple of gunshot wounds one to the leg, one to the side and one to the arm. Luckily I managed to get that out and the bird bites he will recover thanks to a few potions. His wife took a claw from a polar bear to the back. Luckily for her the rifle she carried saved her life. She also had to have a bone mending potion taken for that arm of hers. All of you had blood replenishing potions taken since you lost so much blood. I've also had to give you all some Pepper Up potion to help with the hypothermia that you've all caught," Shay said.

"Why help us? We are you're enemies?" Remus croaked.

"I am helping you because I am no longer an Assassin and I am no longer a Templar. I've walked away from this war a long time ago. I've been here ever since guarding the temple and all that contains within. Unfortunately those bastards made off with the treasure!" Shay said.

"What treasure was that?" Remus asked feeling the effects of the potion that Shay give him start to take effect. He could barely make out Shay's voice as the old man laid him back down on the bed again. His words barely a whisper in Remus's mind but one sentence remained.

"The Mirror of Erised,"

TBC

A/N: Whew! Man oh man I had this one coming! I took me a while to find the time to write. I had to do a bit of research into the life expectancy of a normal wizard in the Harry Potter verse. But I had to turn to the Harry Potter Wiki to find my answer.

It said that a normal life expectancy for a wizard in England was around 137 years. But it also said that Wizards have been known to live as long as 755 years. I figured that 137 was too short for my tastes and 755 was too long. So I made a compromise for this crossover. I made it so that the average wizard normally lives up to 2 to 300 years if they are healthy. So that means that if Altair's life force was not taken by the Apple then he would have lived another 100 years or so more then normal. Ezio I had added another 100 years to his life span just to make it seem like his adventures in Constantinople was not so short. Then lastly Connor and Shay. Well Connor in my universe died in 1956. He died at the age of 200.

That is a long ass time!

As for Shay he is still alive for the sake of this chapter. Though he is about 260+ years which means he lives a fairly healthy life. But at least he proved helpful to the Assassins even though he was a Templar. If you want to know more about it you will have to wait for the next chapter.

But anyways how do you like that failed mission? I had to make them fail at some point. You can't make a good story without some failure in it now can you? Now how did you people like this chapter?

Please leave a review after reading and remember no Bashings, No Flames and no Fandom Cannon crap this is an AU CROSSOVER! Constructive Criticism only please!

Thank you till next time
