Summary Jaken reflects on his battle with the samurai
The ground crunched as Jaken walked across. The soil was blackened where an army of humans stood not a moment ago. In that time they had been reduced to ash. Ash which now soiled Jaken's feed.
The ground. was hot. Jaken hated burning his feet. At the moment there was no other path to the boats where Lord Sesshoumaru was waiting for heat reminded him of what happened to those who opposed Lord Sesshoumaru
If they had simply allowed Lord Sesshoumaru to proceed to the boats they would still be alive not crunched between his toes. Lord Sesshoumaru did not suffer fools. He left Jaken to take care of the while he proceeded to the boats.
They were not worthy of Lord Sesshoumaru's time. Jaken was there to make sure that they did not hinder Lord Sesshoumaru from proceeding on his intended path. Jaken heard his master's voice and carried out his orders.
He never questioned Lord Sesshoumaru. The charred remains of these fellows that dirtied his feet showed what happened to those who stood in Lord Sesshoumaru's way. He knew what would happen to him if he did not carry out those orders.
He treasured the staff of two heads knowing that it was a thing of power granted to him by Lord Sesshoumaru to carry out his chosen task. Laughing as he killed knowing that he had done his job well whether Lord Sesshoumaru appreciated it or not.
When he reached the boat, Lord Sesshoumaru was already waiting for Jaken to row him down the river. He did not ask Jaken whether he had done what he asked him. His presence was evidence that the job had been done.
Not a word of thanks or gratitude passed his Lord's lips. Jaken did not expect any. He knew his Lord. When his Lord assigned Jaken a task, he expected it to be completed. Jaken had known this from the beginning.
His satisfaction came from doing what his Lord asked him to. It was enough that his Lord allowed him to serve him and carry his weapon. At least he could was to do his Lord;'s bidding. As he did that Lord Sesshoumaru would allow him to live, follow him and carry out his assigned duties
