Jensen smiled as she listened to Leo talk about his first day at school. She ushered Leo into the house followed by Opie's two kids. They were going to the same school and Jensen owed Opie's wife for getting the three kids into school after the registration date. Apparently she sat on the board of something and it gave her a little sway. The least Jensen could do was pick up her kids while she worked some extra shifts at the diner. Donna had called her in a slight panic, saying that she was caught up in something. She sounded stressed to Jensen but Jax had told her they were having some money problems so she decided not to push it.
Tonight Abel was going to be released from the hospital and Jensen was working with Gemma to throw a welcome home party for the baby. Gemma had already dropped off carloads of decorations earlier that morning.
Jensen had worked around the clock to make the largest back room into nursery. The walls were painted light blue while decorations of elephants littered every corner. Most of the stuff was left over from Leo's baby days but the white crib was still solid enough for at least a few more children. A shelf full of books and worn toys lined one wall while the two bassinets occupied the other, waiting for the twins.
Jensen had given her mother a call and from the sound of things the babies were only weeks away from making an appearance. Jax had bought them a stroller but Jensen had returned it the minute he left on club business. There was no way she was going to walk around with a stroller for three.
"- And Mrs Goodpastor sat me next to Kenny for all of English. Isn't that great Jen?" He asked looking up at her with mischief in his eyes.
"That's good as long as you're learning, you can't be a doctor if you can't read." She ruffled his bright red curls. "Who want's ice cream?" Jensen asked as she moved into the kitchen.
Cate was covering her shift at the shop while Jensen took care of the kids, the plan was to alternate each day but if Jensen could get out of sorting papers and dealing with bitchy customers she would take it. Three hands shot into the air and Jensen laughed.
"Mrs O'Halloran, what type of ice cream do you have?" The little girl, Ellie, asked with a small shy smile.
"It's Jen, honey, my mom is Mrs O'Halloran and even she doesn't want be." Jensen laughed at her own joke. "Let's see I've got Otter Pops. Do you like Otter Pops?"
"Yes, please!"
"Okay, one for you, and one for you, and one for you, and one for me!" They walked to the small beaten table. Jensen was focused on making sure everyone was looking where they were going that she didn't notice anything was wrong until she heard Kenny scream. The high-pitched shriek pulled her back to the present. "Oh my God." She gasped. "Oh Lord, everyone out now." She blindly pushed the children away from the table, "No don't touch it!" She pushed Leo's hand away from the table. "Come on get into the living room." She nudged them, her fingers already dialling Jax's number.
It rang four times but there was no answer. Jensen closed the phone with a sharp expletive before she opened her phone to try and reach someone else.
"Hello?" an authoritative voice answered.
"Gemma? It's Jensen, I need your help. Jax isn't answering his phone and something has happened."
"What is it?"
"Someone's been in the house." Jensen felt like there was no air in the room.
"How do you know that? Is something missing?" Gemma asked.
"No, but they left something." Jensen made a motion for the kids to stay there while she walked back to the kitchen. "Gemma, there is a dead crow on my kitchen table with a knife through it." She walked closer and saw the bird's blood seeping into the table.
"Hang on, there's a dead crow? Like the bird? On your kitchen table?" She didn't wait for her response before she was barking orders at her "Do not touch anything, we will be there as soon as we can. We are on our way."
"Gemma!" She called as she heard her start to hang up. "I know who did it. They left a calling card." Slowly her hand reached out for the red fabric, a swastika emblazoned in the centre.
Gemma pulled up and let herself into the house.
"Sweetheart?" She called, making her way to the kitchen where Jensen was standing, looking at the bird.
"Gemma! Oh thank God, I didn't know who to call. Jax wasn't answering his phone and I didn't have anyone else's number. Who should I call? Is this because of me? Is it some sort of threat because I know the club has some issues with them?" She asked as she looked at the bird. "Gemma, they were in my house."
"Don't call Jax, don't tell any of them." Gemma plucked at the bird. "This will just rattle them and they don't need it right now. Are those Opie's kids in there?"
"What? Yeah, Donna called this morning saying she was taking some extra shifts at the diner and she couldn't pick up her kids. What do you mean this would rattle them? It rattled me! This is his house too, they broke into his house and killed a bird on his table!"
"Where was that damn dog you're always toting around?"
"Russell took Hank into Oakland, said he was pulling some job that was a bit more risky than usual and just wanted him to look tough. People see the pitbull and walk on the other side of the street."
"I get that but you have to be strong right now and trust me that you don't go telling them."
"The kids saw it, I can't stop them from saying something. Leo adores Jax, I can't make him lie like that."
"You are going to have to do it. Jax can't know about this. You're a smart girl." Gemma pulled the knife out of the bird and a large spurt of blood splashed onto the floor and Jensen gagged. Gemma stepped back to avoid getting the blood on her boots. "I'll get rid of this." She muttered as she picked up the bird that was now coated in it's own blood.
"Jesus, Mary and Joseph!" Jensen exclaimed as she moved forward to try and stop the crimson puddle from spreading to far into the rest of the kitchen.
She was in the middle of throwing away the stained rag she'd used to clean the mess when she heard it. There was a loud pop and Jensen jumped at the noise. A loud scream followed the sound and Ellie was rushing in from the back door. Jensen looked at Gemma for a minute in terror.
"Mrs Jen! You've got to come here! Kenny shot Leo!" She panted as she grabbed hold of Jensen's leg.
"Oh my God!" Jensen cried as she ran over to meet the girl. She ran to pick up the eight year olds hand as ran out the back door. She could feel Gemma behind her. "Where are they Ellie?" Jensen asked the little girl as she looked around the empty yard.
"Behind the garage! They were looking for the person that broke into the house and Kenny had the gun but he didn't know it was Leo, I promise."
Jensen couldn't respond as she dashed over to where Ellie had pointed out. There was a small space between the brick wall of the garage and the chain link fence, where a strip of dead grass grew untamed. She let out a small breath as she put the girl down and squeezed herself between the building and the fence where she saw Kenny crying over Leo. Leo was awake and crying, he looked pale and there was blood coming out of a small hole on his leg.
"Oh thank God." She whispered as she saw the gun in Kenny's hand was just Jax's old BB gun that he had given to Leo. "Hey Kenny." Jensen tried to calm down the crying boy. "It's okay. Can I get the gun from you?" She asked softly.
"I didn't mean to! I'm so sorry Mrs Jen!" Kenny wailed over his friend.
"No, that's okay. Look Leo is going to be just fine. Here let me show you." She took the BB gun away from him and quickly unloaded the BB's. "First off this is what you shot him with. See these little things?" She handed them over to him. "I've been shot with these before and they hurt and they are scary but it's not going to kill him. One time my brother shot me on purpose just to see how loud I would scream." Kenny nodded slowly wiping his tears on the back of his hand. "Okay, so why don't you take this," She handed him the now unloaded rifle. "And go stand over with your sister." She motioned to where Ellie was standing just by the fence. "I'll grab Leo and we can clean him up and everything is going to be okay." She nodded her head fiercely as she scooped Leo off the ground. "Hey kiddo, does this hurt?"
"Yes!" Leo screamed as she picked him up.
"Well maybe that will teach you to be careful around guns! They aren't toys! Jax gave you that to learn responsibility not to shoot each other with." She scolded.
"But he said it was a toy!"
"Does this feel like a toy to you?"
"No." He grumbled.
"Then it's not a toy." Jensen flashed Gemma a look as she came around the corner with Leo. Everything was okay at least no one was dead.
"It's okay Kenny!" Leo called as Jensen led them inside. "But next time I get to shoot you. I'll try and do it in the same spot and we can be scar twins!" Leo cheered.
Jensen said nothing as she tried to repress her giant smile. If they were talking and making jokes everything was going to be okay but the gun was going up in the closet for another couple years. She deposited Leo on the couch and saw Gemma place the first aid kit from the bathroom next to her on the coffee table.
"Look guys, I know what you saw was scary and I know you probably want to tell people about it." Jensen started feeling guilty for even starting to bring it up. "But we need to keep this our own very special secret. One that we never tell anyone."
"Anyone? Not even out parents?" Ellie asked sceptically.
"Especially your parents." Jensen really wanted to shut up she shouldn't encourage kids to lie to their parents but Gemma seemed convinced that this was important. "This is our secret, just the four of us."
"Why can't we tell them?" Leo asked as he bit his lip trying to ignore the pain he felt when Jensen dabbed a cotton pad of rubbing alcohol to his injury. He had seen her do the same thing to Jax a few times and he never said a word as she did it so he wanted to do the same.
"Because the people that did this, they want to hurt people like Jax." Gemma cut in as she moved to sit next to Jensen.
"Like my Dad?" Kenny looked unimpressed when he mentioned his father but Jensen just nodded along.
"Yeah, so we need to protect them. Can we all do that?" Jensen asked, looking at each of them for a nod. Kenny and Leo both nodded hoping that if they did what Jensen asked she would forget being mad that they were busy shooting at each other. Ellie waited a little before following her brother's lead and nodding as well.
"We can keep a secret." Ellie looked at her with big eyes. "I want to protect my Daddy, he was gone for a really long time and I don't want him to go again. Mommy was sad when he left. If he knew would he go away again?"
Jensen paused looking at Gemma for advice.
"Yeah." Gemma answered and Jensen let out a breath glad that she wasn't going to be lying to the little girl.
"And Jax too." Jensen added with a look at Leo. "Come on, we need to get some more ice cream in us." She grabbed more Otter Pops from the freezer and came back out. They ate them but with less vigour than before.
"I've got stuff for Abel's homecoming party." Gemma stated. "I'll go out to the car and get it."
"You can't be serious!" Jensen followed her out to the Cadillac. "You are still going to have his party here? Tonight? After what we just found?" Jensen questioned as Gemma loaded her arms with groceries and decorations.
"This is Abel's home now. We can't not have the party here, it would just raise suspicions."
"You want to know about what might raise suspicions? People getting killed I a drive by on the house because skin heads have realised this is the home of the VP of the Sons of Anarchy and he's bringing home his son!" Jensen yelled. "It's not safe."
"So lock your doors tonight. If anything happens Jax will be there, you are going to be safe. Stop worrying it will give you stress lines."
"How do I not worry? Look I might still be the new girl on the block but I'm not stupid, that was a death threat and now you want your grandson to live here? Without telling anyone what happened?"
"You have a gun right? You know how to use it?" Gemma raised her eyebrow as Jensen nodded. "And you would do anything to protect your family?"
"You know I would."
"You include Abel in your family?"
"Of course!"
"You would protect him with your life?"
"Gemma, you know I would do anything for Abel!" Jensen was getting a little annoyed with the questions Gemma knew the answer to.
"Then I'm not leaving him here without telling anyone what happened and if anything does happen it ends on you." They were walking back to the house Gemma carrying her handbag while Jensen's arms were loaded down with bags and boxes.
"Are you kidding me? If something, anything, happens to anyone in my family, Abel included, it's on you! I wanted to tell Jax, it wasn't my idea to make the kids lie." Jensen dropped the things in her hand on the counter. "This is on you!"
"Watch the way you talk to me." Gemma kept talking as she went through the bags and started putting things in the refrigerator. "I outrank you by about a thousand."
"Gemma, I'm not looking to join the army! I'm in a relationship with your son! A relationship only works if everyone knows everything!"
"Who's been feeding you that line of horse shit?" Gemma asked with a snort.
"Let's see, my father never told my mother shit and their relationship went down the crapper three months after they got married, my grandfather never told my grandmother a damn thing and she ran to get away from him."
"He ever find her?"
"Not that I know of." Jensen smirked. "I got a post card about a month after he died from Zurich. One line, 'your grandfather was a lying, cheating, son of a bitch.' No signature I always thought it was her though. It was the kind of thing she would have done, she was a piece of work."
"Yeah, you run out on my son and grandson, you won't be sending postcards." Gemma matched her smirk just as Jensen's faded.
"Is that a threat?" Jensen cocked an eyebrow in disbelief.
"Just an observation."
"Then I guess it's a good thing I don't run out on family." Jensen crossed her arms. She thought she had worked past this with her, She thought she and Gemma were good.
"And your little four year sabbatical from parenthood?"
"Look, I don't give a fuck what you think of me and my parenting skills but if you think what I did was some sort of vacation from parenting you are way off the mark. I worked shitty jobs for shitty pay, lived in rat holes, and starved myself so that I could send every penny to my family. I never took a break and I never ran out on my family. You want me to fucking look out for Abel and I will, but it's not right keeping this from Jax."
"I'm not asking you for your moral compass, I'm asking you to take care of our boy." Gemma looked at her and Jensen couldn't help but feel a small amount of pride in the term.
"Fine. Let's get these stupid banners up. Cate will be home in a couple hours she said Juice would give her a ride."
There was a knock on the door just as Jensen had adjusted the last banner. She looked up but her hands were full, Leo was sitting on the couch with Kenny and Ellie experimentally poking at the bandages, and Cate was cleaning the bathrooms. Jensen knew better than to ask Gemma.
"Just a second!" She called as she tried to take the excess tape off her hand. "Where's Juice? He was supposed to be helping." She called to Cate.
"He said he had some work to do but that he would be there for the home coming. Said he wouldn't miss it." Cate yelled back.
"Peachy, I'm glad to know he'll be here for the food." Jensen muttered, walking to the door. "Oh hey." She smiled at Donna and Opie standing there looking a little awkward. "Sorry I thought you weren't going to stop by till later." Jensen smiled.
"I got your message about Kenny and Leo getting into some trouble and I thought we should come by. Opie has to head out but he gave me a ride over." Donna explained as Jensen heard another motorcycle pull up and recognised Tig.
"Well we had a little problem with a BB gun but Kenny explained it was an accident and it's okay." Jensen assured as she let them into the house. Tig came in behind them and Jensen nodded a greeting. She was getting way too used to people just barging into her home whenever they pleased.
"What happened?" Donna looked scared while Opie looked exasperated.
"Leo and Kenny were playing in the back yard, Kenny had the BB gun and accidentally shot Leo in the leg. Honestly the boys are fine, they are more interested in having Leo shoot Kenny in the same spot to be scar twins." Jensen smirked. "The gun is going up in the closet for another couple years."
"Oh my God I am so sorry!" Donna told her and Jensen could tell she did mean it.
"Don't worry, Jax should have never given Leo the damn thing. I gave them both a talk about gun safety, the whole 'we don't point guns at friends' talk."
"I'd rather it be the we don't point guns at anyone talk." Donna muttered.
"Well that can be the talk you give Kenny but my Leo is going to know how to shoot a gun and who to shoot it at." Jensen stated. "It was a BB gun this time but I keep a gun in the house, Jax keeps a gun in the house, I pretty sure Gemma walked into my house with a gun, I know Tig has a gun on him just like I know he's going through the refrigerator and eating the food for the party!" She yelled as Tig's face popped around the corner.
"Hey doll face, where are your spoons?" He held out a large bowl of potato salad.
"Uh, top drawer, left of the stove." Jensen told him. "But don't eat all of that it's for tonight." She walked into the kitchen to give Donna and Opie time with their children.
"Nothing else in the house." He complained loudly.
"Bullshit! I made pickled eggs last week!" Jensen shot back.
"Those things in the jar? Why are they red?"
"Yeah, I pickled them in beet juice, and there are a million in there because Jax won't touch 'em, eat a couple of those." Jensen argued as she grabbed the jar and spoon in his hand. Carefully spooning one of the eggs onto a napkin to hand to him. "Where's Gemma?"
"Out back having a smoke." He pointed to the glass sliding door. "You make everyone smoke outside?"
"Nah I love the smell of smoke so I can't tell you what she's doing out there. Maybe she just needs a break." Jensen shrugged; she walked out the living room to see Donna and Opie talking softly to one another.
"Look I have to go." Opie rolled his eyes at Tig's appetite. "Come on!" He called into the kitchen.
Tig sauntered out with one egg in each hand.
"Thanks doll face." He grinned, his mouth full of red eggs.
"Look if you want to take your kids home I understand but they are safe here if you just want to take some time. Besides you are going to be back tonight."
"Okay, maybe I could just go home and take a little bit to myself?" She asked almost like she was afraid she would say no. "Just like an hour, maybe could take a nap or something?"
"Of course, it's not that big a deal, I'm used to kids all over the place. I'll take care of them as long as you promise to take my kids once and a while. I know I didn't actually push them out of me but mommy time would be appreciated." She laughed.
"I can do that. When Opie went away it was just me and the kids, I've been trying but it's hard sometimes." Donna whispered. It sounded to Jensen like she was embarrassed that she wanted time to herself.
"Hey, it takes two to make a baby and a village to raise a child. No one is supposed to be doing this on their own." Jensen snorted. "Go, take your time." She waved. "I'd lend you my car but Jax doesn't have one and Abel's a little small for the back of his bike."
"No, that's okay. Thank you." Donna left before Jensen could take back the words, not that she was planning to rescind the offer.
Jensen got a text forty minutes later that Jax was headed home and then to the hospital.
"Dudes!" She yelled for Leo and Kenny who had disappeared into the back room to play. "I have to get ready to go. Gemma's going to stay here with you but I don't want you bothering her unless it's an emergency, and don't even think about looking for that gun. I'm taking it with me dodos." She laughed before she got up and walked into her room.
"We are not dodos!" Leo called after her.
"If it walks like a dodo and it talks like a dodo, it's probably a dodo!" She laughed before she slammed the door shut and got dressed.
The ride to the hospital filled her with anxiousness. Jax drove her car while she bounced her knee.
"Sweetheart -" Jax started but Jensen held up her hand to stop him.
"What if he doesn't like me?" She asked as she took a deep breath. She hated lying to Jax, she was on the verge of telling him about the bird, but every time she opened her mouth to say something she could hear Gemma telling her that she needed to be strong and protect him. She wasn't worried at all about Abel not liking her; she had gone to visit him everyday some days twice a day. Abel was going to like her well enough but now she had to worry if he was safe enough.
"He's going to love you, that's ridiculous." He smiled over at her, his hand resting on her knee.
"If you were in my head you wouldn't think it was so ridiculous." Jensen bit at the corner of her thumb.
Once they had gotten Abel into the car Jensen forced herself to relax, it didn't do any good to be so anxious around a baby. She couldn't take care of a baby if she was that stressed out.
The party was more fun than Jensen had predicted it was going to be, her father managed to do the one thing she asked and stayed as far away from them that night as possible. She didn't care if she had to go bail him out in the morning, she really didn't want him there. Abel had been passed around a couple times before he fell asleep and Jax looked at her like it was her responsibility to put him in his crib. She faltered for a minute before putting on a happy face and doing this for him. Jensen really liked most of the people there but she was trying to actively avoid Gemma. Leo was telling everyone about how he and Kenny were playing and Kenny shot him. At the very least Jax looked a little guilty that it was his BB gun that caused the damage, but when Leo told him that it barely hurt and he was going to shoot Kenny in the same spot so that they could be twins Jensen saw the pride in his smirk.
"Damn boy, okay let's see the scars!" Tig howled. Leo proudly held up his pant leg and showed the thick gauze Jensen had placed over the hole.
"Okay I think it's time or us to go." Donna laughed awkwardly; she was still a little on edge that her son had shot a friend.
"Oh, don't go!" Jensen laughed. "Come on it was an accident." Jensen protested lightly. She didn't want them to go because they felt bad, although she wouldn't hate it if the party died down and she could get some sleep.
"No, the kids are dead on their feet and they've been here all day."
"It wasn't a problem, they're cute kids. They are both totally welcome any time." Jensen smiled as she walked the family out the door. "Any time you need some girl time," Jensen waggled her eyebrows as she looked between the two adults. "Give me a call."
"I'll keep that in mind." Donna laughed that awkward chuckle she had been giving all evening.
Jensen walked back just as Tig brushed past her.
"Hey doll face, I'm cutting out." He leaned forward and pressed a kiss on her cheek. "That was some killer potato salad."
"Okay, hey take some eggs with you, I made too many and Jax won't even look at them. Says the colour freaks him out." Jensen tugged on his arm trying to get him to come back inside.
"Nah, I'll come back tomorrow." She saw the slight tick in the corner of his eye and she finally understood that she needed to get out of there; he had something he needed to do.
"Yeah, okay, be safe." She frowned.
Clay and Gemma were sitting on the couch. Clay was talking to Liam about something he needed transported into Oakland. Jensen didn't want to pay it any mind; she knew Liam was getting in deeper with the club doing things that he knew wouldn't have any sort of plausible deniability if he was caught with guns in the back of his stolen ambulance he was facing some very serious time behind bars.
"Don't take your brother with you." Jensen sighed before she went to sit on the arm of the chair Jax was occupying, gaining Liam's attention.
"Why not, he's helpful out there, boy can't stich worth a damn but he's damn good with a needle, never misses a vein." Liam clapped his brother on the back with a grin.
"I don't care, you want to get caught with your pants around your ankles and your dick in your hand that's fine, but he's your younger brother and it's your job to make sure he doesn't get arrested." Jensen argued back.
Clay's phone went off just as she finished her little tirade, and he stood up to talk to whomever was on the line.
Chibs stood up and drained the beer he had in his hand.
"Alright bother, I'm going to head out let you get used to having your family all under the same roof." He opened his arms for a hug and Jax stood up to meet him but Leo barrelled his way ahead and of them and grabbed onto Chibs' leg.
"Love you Mister Chibs." He smiled before he yawned.
"Okay tiger, bed time was an hour ago," Jensen laughed as she ushered him out of the way. "Book it!" She pushed him down the hall towards his room.
Chibs said his goodbyes and Jensen walked him to the door.
"Thanks for coming." Jensen looked up at him. "And thanks,"
"What for this time?" he asked with a laugh.
"For whatever you did to make Leo adore you. He talks about you all the time, it's Mister Chibs this and Mister Chibs that. That is, you know, after I told him that your name isn't Mister Chips." She snorted a laugh. "But he thinks it's a great name for his stuffed monkey." She put her hand on the door nob to open it for him. "You are a stand up guy." She poked him in the chest with her free hand. "Thank you. Now I don't do mushy so get out of here!" She laughed, pulling open the door.
Her breath caught as she saw who was standing in front of her house. Sherriff Unser was holding out his hand to knock on her door.
"Jag pratar inte engleska." She held her hands up with an eye roll. "And whatever my brothers did, they don't speak English either."
"I was headed to Jax's house when I saw the bikes I thought I should stop here. Something's happened." He looked at Chibs as he said it; clearly they had a relationship that Jensen wasn't in on. Whatever it was Jensen knew enough from his tone to let him into the house and let him speak his piece.
"Please come in." She moved her body so that he could push his way through. She might have let him into her house but she wasn't so keen on him being there. She tolerated it but only barely.
"Your father is currently sitting in one of my jail cells on a drunk and disorderly, screaming about his daughter. Some of the stuff he's saying, it ain't pretty." Unser looked at her for a moment before walking into the living room.
"Is it ever?" Jensen asked herself as she followed after him, wondering slightly how he had put together that Tiernan was her father.
"There was a shooting." Unser was telling everyone in the room when she walked back. She was a little concerned by the way Liam leaned forward when he heard the word shooting. "Donna Winston was shot in the back of the head on her way home. Eyewitnesses say that it was a man in an SUV."
"Donna?" Jensen's hand covered her mouth and her tough façade cracked under the news. "No! No, she was just here!" She walked over to Jax and held him close to her.
She felt Jax's arm wrap around her, tucking her under his arm. Jensen didn't know where to look, her eyes darted around at the men in her living room. They all looked like they were barely keeping it together. Suddenly Gemma's words came flying back to her 'You need to be strong for him'. Jensen's head popped up and she looked at Jax.
"You need to go. You need to be there for Opie. Go." She shrugged out of his grip. "We'll be okay here, you have to go."
"What about you?" He asked, already looking for his keys.
"I'm fine and I'll be here when you get back." She nodded. "I'll wait up for you."
"Okay." Jax nodded. "I'll be back." He kissed her quickly and Jensen could tell his head was already out the door.
"I know you will. Come back safe." She nodded as she pulled back from him.
The men all filed out leaving Gemma and Jensen there with Cate, Russell, and Liam.
"Guys why don't you give me a minute with Gemma. I can clean this up by myself." Jensen gestured around the living room. Cate probably would have just left if Jensen needed a minute with Gemma, she was scared of the older woman, but Liam and Russell needed an extra incentive and getting out of dishes duty worked every time.
The two women just looking at each other while the three younger kids headed down the hall. Jensen glared at Gemma before rolling her eyes and bustling around taking half eaten trays of food into the kitchen.
"That was quite an act you put on in there." Gemma finally broke the silence as she walked around to follow her.
"Wasn't an act, Jax needed me more than I needed him and Opie needs him." Jensen grumbled as she dumped scraps into a bowl for Hank, which the dog attacked as soon as it was on the floor.
"Than what's up your butt?" Gemma asked absentmindedly running her hands across her hair.
"This is all your fault! If we had just told Jax what had happened this afternoon no one would have been here and Donna would probably still be alive! I should have told them and I shouldn't have made those kids lie!" She snapped. "Those kids lost their mother tonight and it's on us!" Jensen resumed glaring at Gemma. "She was my friend, Gemma, and now she's dead." Her words were just an octave too loud and she realised she had woken Abel. "Shit!" She muttered as she slammed the rag she was using on the counter. "Just leave Gemma, please, I'll see you in the morning."
Jensen walked down the hall to Abel's room.
"Hey, baby boy, it's okay. I'm here, it's okay now, I'm here. Nothing's going to hurt you here. You're safe." Jensen cooed at the baby before she leaned in to pick him up. She heard the front door slam shut and she knew Gemma had left. Grabbing the light blue afghan from the rocking chair placed in the corner of the room she walked out to the living room to wait for Jax, softly rocking Abel back to sleep.
