AN: Welcome back team, sorry it took a bit but my brain needed to relax as I have a few more hours to work;
plus plotting the dots together, and yes, as you could tell from the last chapter I decided that it was time in the story for Brett to pop the question. Doesn't mean they'll get married right away but the wedding will eventually happen.
This chapter will now switch and be mainly about Quinton and Rachel.
Enjoy.
Chapter 21:
"Oh my god, oh my god, OH MY GOD!" Rachel squealed happily as she ran from the kitchen of her apartment to the bedroom, "Quinn, Quinn, QUINN!"
"Wha! What?" He grumbled as he pulled the blankets over his face to block the light that was streaming into the room because the door was swung wide open by his very excited wife. It was currently too early in the morning for his tastes since it was supposed to be his day off so he just grumbled and tried to go back to sleep. Not that Rachel was obviously going to let him.
"Up, up, up," Rachel said as she jumped onto the bed and then jumped onto him making him let out an 'omph' sound.
"Ow, good morning," he said as he pulled the blankets down a bit and looked at her.
"I feel you like this position we are now in," Rachel smirked as she was still sitting on him.
"Very, so, what's got you so excited? I know what has me excited,"
"I just got off the phone with Santana,"
"Oh?"
"Big news, oh my god,"
"Does it have anything to do with the text that Brett just sent me about their current marital status about three minutes before you burst into the room?"
Rachel gaped at him before saying, "He just sent a text? Why? He should have called,"
"I'd say it's a guy thing but it's probably a lie, it's just how we roll, so, is it?"
"Yes, oh my god he proposed and it was so romantic,"
Quinton just looked at Rachel who was now sporting a lovey-dovey face for lack of a better word.
"And how I proposed to you wasn't?" he asked.
"Oh don't be so jealous, I think it's sweet," she said as she lay down on top of him so that she could peck his lips, "Besides I loved how you proposed to me,"
"Good, I'm glad,"
Rachel playfully tapped the tip of his nose as he hugged her close to him.
"I suppose I should congratulate him in some way in person," Quinton said as he held her close.
"Yes you do, well, we do, I need to congratulate Santana too," Rachel said as she rested against him.
The phone soon rang as Rachel looked towards the sound as did Quinton.
"Expecting someone?" he asked.
"No, you?" she asked.
"Nope,"
Rachel hopped off him as she went to answer the phone, "Oh hello David," she said. Quinton sat up, he didn't like David very much and that probably had a lot to do with the fact that the guy was constantly trying to hit on Rachel even though she had told him numerous times that she was a very happily married woman.
"There is no table reading for the show today I checked, yeah, no I'm not free today for a coffee, that's none of your business, I think Anna's free, go see her, okay, goodbye,"
Rachel hung up the phone as Quinton sighed in annoyance, "That dang bastard still trying to hook up with you?" he asked her.
"I don't know, possibly, he's been slowing down recently, I think he's slowly getting the message," Rachel said as she leaned against him and looked in straight in the eyes.
"I don't like him,"
"I know you don't,"
"You like him?"
"As a fellow voice actor for the show, yes,"
Quinton just grunted at that as he let his fingers trail up and down her back softly.
"So Mr Fabray, what shall we do today?" Rachel asked, "We both have this very rare day off together,"
"Well, I..." Quinton started as the phone rang again, "God dammit, what's with the calls?"
Rachel just laughed at him as she sat up again and answered, "Hello? Yes this is the Fabray residence, that's my husband, okay one moment," Rachel said as she looked at Quinton and gave him the phone, "For you,"
Quinton sighed as he shuffled up and Rachel jumped off him, he covered the end of the receiver and said, "Hey don't go too far now,"
"I won't, just getting us coffee,"
"Thank you," he smiled as he put the phone up to his ear and said, "Hello? Quinn Fabray,"
"Hi Quinn," Frannie said on the phone.
Quinton was having an internal war as to how to reply to her before saying politely, "Hi, can I help?"
"Listen, Quinn, may I please catch up with you today?"
"I'm spending the day with Rachel," Quinton said as Rachel just walked in, "Sorry, no can do,"
"Please, even if it's just for half an hour?"
Quinton let out an annoyed sound before asking, "When? Where? And Who?"
"Say at twelve thirty at Mingles Park by the fountain, and it's just me, no Mom, no Dad,"
"You realise I'm bringing Rachel along,"
"Quinton don't, I want to talk to just you,"
Quinton looked annoyed at that, "You try and set me up for anything,"
"Quinton it's just a catch up,"
"Fifteen minutes, you hear, that's all I'm willing to give you,"
"Okay, will see you then,"
Quinton hung up the phone and put it back on the holder as Rachel sat down next to him on the bed and gave him a mug of coffee.
"Thank you," he said as he took it and smelt the drink before taking a sip.
"Catch up?" Rachel asked.
"Yeah, Frannie wants to talk, just me and her, no one else, makes me wonder what she wants,"
"Ah, I see, well I guess I could always just walked around the small shops there and I'll meet you when you're done,"
"Yeah," Quinton said as he put down his mug and rubbed his eyes, "I really don't want to talk to her, I want to spend my day with you,"
Rachel smiled at him as she patted his arm, "Regardless of how mad you are at her and the rest of your family, realise that they are still your family,"
"Yeah by blood, but blood ain't nothing if it stabs you in the back,"
"I know," Rachel said as she put her mug down too and sat closer to him, "But I will tell you this, the longer you hold onto that anger, the longer you choose not to forgive, the more you will regret not settling it when it's time for your father to pass away, and I feel personally that you will regret never knowing what could have been had you not been stubborn,"
Quinton just looked at her.
"I know you hurt Quinn, I know very well how much you hurt everyday because you see my family, and you see Santana's family, and I know how much you wish that yours could be the same, but not all families are the same Quinn," Rachel said as she reached out and stroked his hair.
He sighed as he took her hand and kissed the palm, "But I wish they were," he said.
"So why don't you take this opportunity and try, forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting what was done, forgiveness means that you will finally be free of the cage you've been trapped in and be able to move forward,"
Quinton didn't say anything as he still held tight onto her hand.
Rachel scooted closer to him so that he held her in his arms as he kissed the top of her forehead.
"I guess I could try," he said, "I mean she did just call and ask about catching up today,"
"Good, and when you do catch up with her, I want you to keep your anger at bay and I want you to listen this time, no snarking, no getting angry," she said to him.
Quinton just nodded his head at that.
Later that day Quinton sat on a bench by the fountain as he waited for his sister to appear.
It was just going on twelve thirty when he felt someone sit next to him.
"Hi sis," he said without looking at her.
"Hi brother," she said back.
"You wanna go to the cafe over there for coffee?"
"Yeah, that'd be nice,"
Quinton just nodded his head as he slowly looked at her and got up.
As he walked over to buy coffee and Francine was now sat at a table, he looked over to her and saw that she seemed nervous.
"Cappuccino and a Latte," the server said as he handed the coffees over to the blonde.
"Yeah, that's me, thanks," Quinton said as he took the drinks and went to sit down, handing the cappuccino to his sister.
"Thank you," she said.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" he asked.
"There are a lot of things to talk about so I don't know where to start,"
"Start with what you feel is important,"
Francine just nodded her head as she took a sip of the cappuccino, "I want to talk about Daddy," she said.
"You're back to calling him that I see," Quinton said.
"Doesn't mean you have to,"
"I guess, so, what about him?"
"He wasn't lying when he said he was sick, and he wasn't lying when he said he wanted to reconnect with you,"
Quinton didn't say anything.
"I know what he did was wrong, I know that what I said was wrong, and Mom, she knows that what she did was wrong, we should have been there for you, we should have supported you and there is nothing that we can do that will make that hurt of abandoning you and casting you out go away Quinn and I'm sorry," Francine said, "But that is the past now and we can't change that but we can try for a better future,"
"So why now?" Quinton asked.
"Dad came back into our lives over a year ago, it was slow at first, I didn't want to talk to him, neither did Mom, but eventually little by little we let him in, just to talk at first,"
"How long before he asked about money?"
"He didn't,"
Quinton looked surprised.
"Yeah that was my reaction too, it was over six months of him just trying to reconnect with Mom and I that I decided to let him have half the company back when he dropped the bombshell about his illness, and no, he didn't ask for money then either, just why he couldn't work anymore,"
Quinton nodded his head as he kept listening, figuring that he'd take Rachel's advise and just listen.
"It wasn't long before he started to talk about you," Francine said as she looked at him, "He's really angry about what happen, but he's not angry at you, he's angry at himself, he's angry at how he didn't support you, he's angry that he didn't try and find you, and he's angry that he lost so many years because he's basically as stubborn as you are,"
"Had to get it from somewhere," Quinton tried to crack but somehow fell a bit short.
"Yeah," Francine said smiling softly, "Anyway, Dad told us that he'd been wanting to reconnect with you for a long time now, that he wanted to apologise for how he treated you, and he wanted you to have your fortune back, your money, and we um, obviously didn't quite start that conversation right last time,"
"To be fair, I was still quite angry and didn't want to talk, so..."
"You had every right to be mad, perhaps no right to act like a brat, but you had a right to be mad,"
Quinton just huffed.
"Anyway, Quinn, I'm here to give you this," Francine said as she gave him a folder.
He took it and looked at her.
"Open it you goose," she said.
Quinton looked annoyed at her calling him that as he opened the folder and looked surprised, "What did you do?"
"I know you said you didn't want to run the company with me, and I get that, so I made you a shareholder, you will get money coming in from the family company, I mean I may ask you to help out now and then but I'll work around your schedule if you can do that with me, plus your trust fund is being returned to you too,"
"You do realise what you're giving me right? This, I mean, this is a lot of money,"
"I'm giving you what's rightfully yours plus interest, I figured that the physical stuff as in the money, that would be the easy first step, now comes the hard yards, reconnecting emotionally is not easy and I know that we've got a long way to go before we can all be some sort of family again,"
"I just, there has to be a catch to all of this Fran,"
"There is always a catch,"
"And the one for this is what?"
"There is a father out there who wants to see his boy again, that's all there is, I gave you an open door, it's your choice as to whether you'll step through it or not,"
Francine looked at the time and then said, "My fifteen minutes are up, so I better get going, a lot of work to do, everything will be in your account by next week once you finish going over the bank stuff,"
"Okay, um, thanks," Quinton said.
"Oh, Quinn,"
"Yeah?"
"Here, this is Dad's details when you're ready to see him again," Francine said as she gave him a card with Russel's number on it.
Quinton just nodded his head at her.
-page break-
Not too long later, Rachel caught up with Quinton who was still sitting at the cafe, his latte getting cold as he sat there.
"You looked perplexed," she said as she sat down.
"Oh, um, hi, how are you?" he asked.
"Good, I found some shopping I like and then I got a call from work and they informed me that I have to go in tomorrow again to do some more voice over work,"
"Oh, okay, cool,"
"So, what happened?"
Quinton looked at her before saying, "I guess you were right,"
"I'm your wife, I'm always right," she said with a smile.
Quinton laughed a bit before blurting out, "Fran just made me a lot richer,"
"Oh?"
"She said that she and Russel were giving me back my trust fund, and that she decided to still make me a shareholder of the family company, means I don't really have to do as much and the money will still come in,"
"Okay, wow," Rachel said as she looked at him in surprise.
"Yeah I know, apparently my father's been wanting to reconnect for a while and the only way he could figure out a start was by giving me what he felt was mine, but of course he didn't know how to talk about it and I was still to mad at him last time, blah, blah, blah,"
"That's amazing and yes I know,"
"She said that there was a catch though,"
"And the catch is?"
"That there is a father out there who wants to see his boy again,"
Rachel smiled at him as she patted his hand, "Are you going to try?" she asked.
"Yeah, maybe set up something with him next week, not too soon though because I'm still trying to digest stuff,"
"I think letting things digest is a good thing,"
Quinton just smiled at her as he took out his phone, "Oh, by the way, look at this," he said as he gave her his phone.
"Okay? Your phone," she said as she looked at it and wondered why he seemed to be jumping to the next topic so quickly.
"Unlock it, and don't tell me you don't know how to because I know that that new wallpaper of mine didn't get there by my hand,"
"I'm sure you enjoyed that picture,"
"I do, very much,"
Rachel laughed as she unlocked the phone and looked at the picture of a penthouse apartment that the two of them had been dreaming of buying for a very, very, long time but just couldn't quite afford it. Not even with Rachel's slowly increasing popularity and work.
She smiled as she looked at him, "It's the place we always dreamed of Quinn," she said as she gave him his phone back, "High up in the world where we could feel like we're living in the clouds, and a beautiful place to have a family together,"
"Yeah, I know," he smiled at her and put his phone away.
"So, what was the reason you got me looking at that place?"
"It recently went on the market again,"
"Oh?"
"Rachel, you are my everything, the reason I wake up in the morning, the very reason I breath," he said as he took her hands.
"I know," she said as she looked at him, "You say this to me every day,"
"And I mean it, I've been wanting to buy you everything your heart desires,"
"I only need you Quinn, just you, because there is no one I love more than you; well, my fathers don't count but you get the idea,"
Quinton laughed at her as the other patrons looked over at them for a moment before going back to their own conversations.
"Anyway," he said as he patted her hands lovingly, "I've been thinking, you and I, we've been living in that old little apartment for quite some time now,"
"Yes, and I love our place,"
"I know, but I figured that with you and I getting older, and eventually having kids,"
"Yeah about that,"
Quinton looked at her.
"We can talk more about that soon, carry on," she said as she smiled at him.
"Yeah, um, okay, um, well, I just, with me getting the family money back I just, Rachel, I want to buy that place for us, for our family," Quinton said.
Rachel gaped and stuttered, "Wait, wait, wait, you what?"
"I want to buy that place for us,"
"Quinn?"
Quinton smiled as he opened up the folder and Rachel looked surprised as she saw just how much they were getting back as a family.
"Oh, okay, wow, really?" she said.
"Yeah, that's what we're getting back by next week AND more as the family company continues," Quinton said.
Rachel could do nothing but laugh as she got up and hugged him before sitting on his lap and saying, "Really? That place?"
"Yeah,"
"I just, what if that's, we can always go somewhere cheaper,"
"No, I want to get that place for you,"
Rachel just squealed happily as she had tears fall from her face that Quinton lovingly wiped away.
After a moment of the two calming down. Rachel pecked his lips with a big smile.
"Oh I'm so glad for you," she said.
"And of course glad for yourself, every diva needs her big house right?" Quinton joked.
"Yeah, not gonna lie about that," Rachel laughed as she kissed his cheek.
"So, you were going to talk about kids?"
"Yes," Rachel said as she went back to her seat, "You know how you and I were talking about starting family when the time was right?"
"Yes,"
"While you were talking with your sister, I was walking around the shops and thinking about it and I think the time is right,"
Quinton felt his jaw drop a bit before asking, "Are you? Are you sure? What about your work?"
"Quinn, being a voice actor on a cartoon show means that people won't see the pregnant woman, it also means that I can just keep working until it's time for me to pop said baby out,"
"I, I, I, I just, really?"
"Yes,"
Quinton just felt a smile rise out of him. Everything seemed to be happening quickly for him for the better and he hoped that this good feeling would stay forever.
"I was just wondering if you were ready to have a family with me Quinn?" Rachel said, "I mean there is a lot going now for you, I want you to be sure that you're ready too,"
"So, um, can we kinda, you know, start making the family tonight?" he asked, "Well, after a nice dinner of course, and a movie,"
Rachel just laughed at him, "Sure," she said to him.
"Oh good, because you know, we've been cockblocked one too many times today,"
"Yes, we were,"
"So tonight, dinner at home together, movie, phones out of the walls and mobiles turned off, and then, well, and then,"
Rachel leaned in to whisper in his ear, "Very, very, sexy times will take place and happen,"
"To the start of our family huh?!"
Rachel just smiled at him as she nodded her head.
AN 2: Okay, so I hope you all enjoyed that. I've decided to start slowly moving this story onwards and upwards and diagonally (HP Joke, yay); with regards to Quinton and his family. Plus I also felt that this was the right time for the Fabray pair to start a family.
Next chapter will move back to Brett and Santana again. Until next time team.
