Mickie finally got some time for herself the following afternoon. It took forever to put Mikayla down after hours filled with crying, spitting up milk, changing diapers, among other things. She was so tired. She was glad she was finally getting a moment to herself. She was close to giving up and just joining in on the crying herself, it was so frustrating. She needed sleep, but there was other things that needed to be done including getting some laundry done and washing the clothes Mikayla spit up all over which she was doing at the moment.
John called half an hour ago saying he would be home shortly which surprised her. He did just leave the morning before so she was surprised he was coming back so soon already. Most of his time was probably spent driving back and forth, she wondered if they actually had time to talk. Maybe there was nothing to talk about because maybe Lita lied again and told him he wasn't Anthony's dad and he believed her yet again. Whatever it was, she didn't care because it wasn't like it effected her one bit.
The only reason Mickie even kept Lita's secret to herself in the first place was to save her and John's marriage from falling apart but that clearly wasn't going to happen anymore due to the fact that her own secrets came out no matter how hard she tried to keep them buried. When John found out about her getting a paternity test, she didn't care to hide the fact that she was indeed lying about being pregnant before and having a miscarriage when he asked her about it. She didn't even care that the center screwed up and accidentally sent the results through mail instead of calling her to pick them up like planned. It felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders now that it was all out in the open. Maybe getting a divorce from John was for the best, she would probably get her sanity back soon.
Mickie wasn't able to visit an attorney yet but she did talk to one on the phone the day before. The lawyer talked to her briefly explaining that Mickie could claim this marriage was irretrievably broken meaning there was absolutely no way to fix it and nothing else was needed to prove that fact. Mickie learned that a divorce could be final as soon as a few weeks or could take even a couple of months depending whether or not her and John agreed on everything including child custody and all that jazz.
Mickie heard sounds of footsteps getting closer and closer and she just assumed it meant John was home. Her suspicions were confirmed when she saw him enter the room where she was putting some laundry away she just got done. The two simply looked at one another before Mickie returned back to the task at hand.
"Hi," John said breaking the uncomfortable silence between the two.
"Back so soon?" Mickie asked as she turned her attention to him and away from the clothes.
John let out a long tired sigh. "You were right."
"Well duh."
John said nothing and was about to leave the room, but Mickie decided she wasn't done. He looked upset so she knew she should have just let him be, but she was still angry with him so she found that hard to do.
"Something wrong?" Mickie began to ask which made John stop in place and turn around to face her. "It looks like something is bothering you, but why wouldn't it? You just found out about a son you never knew you had. Let me guess, she's pregnant again?" Mickie joked but was surprised when John still said nothing and simply looked away, but she did not miss the look of guilt all over his face. "Unbelievable. You did, didn't you? That's just lovely. You cheat on me twice and both times you get her pregnant. You might want to be more careful before you singlehandedly overpopulate the World. Might be time for a snip snip."
"Yea, well there's no..." He trailed off when he realized he was saying it out loud.
Mickie was speechless as it all registered in to her. She knew exactly what John was talking about. There were two reasons why there would be no baby like she was sure he was about to say. "You sure she wasn't lying? It's pretty easy fooling you about a miscarriage."
John tried to bite his tongue from saying something back to her, but he couldn't keep it in any longer. "She's not as big of a bitch as you are."
Mickie smiled at him, a fake smile he could tell. "Aw, that's so sweet." The smile disappeared from her face as she continued. "You know, I never thought I would say this, but poor Lita. I do feel bad for her." She actually looked to be concerned. "Karma's a bitch though, isn't it?"
John didn't reply to that instead choosing to change the subject a bit. "I know we're going to be getting a divorce soon and who knows what's going to happen after that, but let me be a part of Mikayla's life." He was about to say more, but was cut off by Mickie.
"Duh John. I'm not like Lita. Of course you're going to be in Mikayla's life. She's your responsibility too and I'm not going to let you just walk away from it." It became silent for a moment before Mickie continued when she thought about something. "When are you moving out?"
"I don't know."
"Okay, but make it soon. Now that you're back, either of us can visit a lawyer and finally file for divorce so we can get this over with. It doesn't matter who files, I just want to get this over with."
"Okay." Mickie was about to put the clothes away and John was about to leave, but before he could do so, he thought about something he had been thinking about on the long drive back home. Just one of the many thoughts his brain was filled with.
"I'm sorry," John said which made Mickie stop what she was doing and focus all her attention on him. "You were right, I didn't treat you right for a huge part of our relationship. I did deceive you. I'm sorry for cheating on you. I'm sorry I continued talking to her when you didn't want that. I should have kept distance from her like you wanted especially after we kissed during that stupid dance practice Trish made us do." That was the first Mickie heard about that, but she wasn't surprised even a little bit. "I really am sorry for all the hurt I caused you."
Mickie shook her head. "That really doesn't change what you did."
"Okay, but still, I am sorry." Mickie simply nodded and was about to say something, but John continued. "But here's the thing, don't blame me for what you did. You cannot blame me cheating on you as a reason to why you did the same. You cannot blame me cheating on you as a reason to why you faked a pregnancy and then losing the baby. You cannot blame me cheating on you as a reason to why you were going to let me think Mikayla was mine even if she turned out not to be. I just owned up to my mistakes, you should too."
Mickie didn't say anything and John didn't think she was about to so he left the room. He was glad she didn't say anything because he didn't want to deal with anymore of this for right now.
"The whole day has gone by and you're still in bed," Mellie said as she entered Lita's bedroom later that evening. Just like she said, Lita hadn't left her room even once the entire day. She didn't feel like getting up. She didnt want to do anything. She just wanted to sleep. She felt numb. "Anthony keeps asking about you," she continued after she said down on the empty spot on the bed. "He keeps coming here a few times but I think he's afraid a monster is going to jump from under those covers if he does anything so he just leaves. He thinks you're sick so I just let him think that because it's so much easier to explain that whole mess you and John have going on. But then again, it's not like it's my place to tell him, it's yours so you should probably do that soon."
"He's my son," came Lita's mumbled voice from under the covers which Mellie could still hear. "I make the choices when it comes to him so I don't have to tell him anything I don't want to."
"Li, John said he's going to give you a month to tell Anthony and to talk to him about how you guys are going to handle this before he let's the legal system decide this for you."
"I don't give a damn what he's going to do," Lita began to say as she removed the covers partially from her and sat up, Mellie could tell a lot of crying had been going on with how red and puffy her sisters eyes were, "because Anthony is MY son so John can try whatever the hell he wants because he's not going to get anywhere with this. He's hardly home and always on the road and let's not forget he has another child to take care of. I'm sure he's going to spend his very few days off at home with his daughter and wife and not with Anthony so no Judge in their right mind will give him any type custody of my son. It's not like he's even listed as Anthony's father on the birth certificate. Those are just a couple of many things in my favor and he knows all of that, he's just threatening me with Court, he's not going to go through with that. I will not let him take my son away from me." For whatever reason that made sense to her at the time, Lita opted not to add John on Anthony's birth certificate and now she was glad she made what she thought was the correct decision.
"I wasn't aware you could get yourself pregnant."
"I'm freaking wonder woman. I can do anything."
Mellie rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Look, John is Anthony's father which gives him the right to be in his life. He deserves it."
"No he doesn't."
"He does. Say whatever you want about John, but Anthony sure as hell does deserve his father. You may not think it right now because you're acting really stubborn, but Anthony needs his dad. I know you two have been getting by just fine by yourselves for this long, but soon enough he's going to need John. He's going to ask you about his dad one day. He's going to realize there are kids who have both a mother and a father and he's going to ask you about his. Right now is the perfect time to tell him. Yea, he'll be confused at first, but he's at that age where he'll just go with the flow. He won't ask too many questions. He's three, he probably won't even know what to ask. It's going to be so much easier on you if you stop waiting around especially if John does go through with the threat like I believe he will."
"He's not going to do anything," Lita insisted. "And if he does, well, again, no Judge is going to rule in his favor."
"You know one thing he has going for him is that you never told him about his son-"
"That doesn't matter," Lita interrupted before the younger of the two could continue. "I'm his mother, I know what's best for him."
"Clearly you don't." That earned Mellie a glare. "John knows the truth now and he wants to be in Anthony's life, you need to let him do that. And if-"
"I don't need to do anything I don't want to."
"What changed? You were so ready to tell him and let the two finally have a relationship, so what changed now?"
"He's the reason I lost my baby-"
"Not really, but continue."
"I just realized he's the reason for everything bad in my life-"
"Oh God," Mellie groaned. "Not this again."
"-and I will not let him do the same to my son. I'm just protecting Anthony."
"It's really sad you don't realize how stupid you sound right now." The glare was back. "It's sorry Li, but I don't think this is you protecting Anthony. There's nothing he needs protection from when it comes to his father. You're trying to protect yourself. You don't want to get close to John again and give him another chance to hurt you. Don't let Anthony suffer because you're afraid of getting close to John again."
"You're wrong. He's an asshole and I hate him so you're wrong."
Mellie rolled her eyes. Lita was so delusional. "You're not a teenager anymore, you're in your thirties, you have a son, act like it."
"I need a day to myself, okay. And I took that today. I feel like... I just..." Mellie waited for Lita to finish, but she didn't say anything else.
"How do you feel?"
Lita shrugged. "I don't know. How's Anthony? What is he doing?"
"He's fine. He's worried about you. I think he's still scared seeing you in pain and bleeding like that yesterday. He's sleeping right now, he didn't take a nap so he fell asleep a bit early."
"Okay. Just leave me alone right now."
"Fine. I'm going to stay another day here with Anthony, but tomorrow I'm not having any of this. You will get up and life will keep moving on. I know everything seems shitty right now, but it'll get better. You just have to..." she trailed off when Lita rolled her eyes and laid back down and pulled the covers on top of herself. Yea, she probably didn't want to hear anymore about having to talk to John.
