…I am so sorry! I told you I would be better with updating, but alas, I lied.
Disclaimer: Legend of Korra isn't mine…
Korra explained what had happened to the others while Bolin, Eska, Desna, and I watched on silently. She ended her explanation with a melancholy, "Vaatu won."
"Oh, no, no, no," Bolin shook his head, looking mortified. "I am too young to live through ten thousand years of darkness! Korra, can't you talk to one of your past lives or something?!"
"When Vaatu destroyed Raava, he destroyed my connections with the past avatars," she explained, looking down guiltily.
"If that's true then…" Tenzin began.
"It's over," Korra finished his sentence, beginning to cry. "I'm the last avatar. I'm so sorry, Tenzin…"
I shuffled over, setting myself down gently on the rock next to her, and wrapped her in a one-armed hug. She leaned into me, her sobs racking her body violently. "Its okay, Korra," I cooed. "Remember what you said when you had those visions from Avatar Wan? He told you that neither Vaatu nor Raava could survive without the other, remember?"
"Yeah, and since Vaatu's still here," Bolin continued.
"That means Raava is still alive somewhere," Mako concluded.
Korra went still for a moment before sniffing and sitting up, wiping her eyes with newfound determination. "Hey, you're right," she replied, her voice steady and strong.
Tenzin walked over to us, saying, "The past avatars may not be able to help you anymore, but perhaps I can."
"No one can help me now," she replied, losing some of her confidence as she was reminded of everything she lost when Raava was ripped out of her.
"I know I haven't been the best mentor to you," he continued. "But I realized it was because I had a lot of spiritual growth I had to do myself. There may still be a way for you to stop Vaatu."
"…How?" she asked, her head on my shoulder.
Tenzin kneeled down next to her. "Let go of your attachment to who you think you are," he explained. "And connect with your inner spirit."
"Weren't you listening to her?" I demanded. "Her inner spirit was Raava, and now she's gone-" I caught everyone's glares. "I'm shutting up now."
"No, Kika's right," Korra agreed sullenly. "Raava is gone. I'm not connected to a spirit anymore."
Desna and Eska shuffled over to their cousin, slowly but surely and kneeled in front of her, each twin taking one of her hands in theirs. Korra looked up, somewhat shocked. "We feel somewhat responsible for what has happened to you and the emptiness you now feel," Desna explained. "But from now on, we will assist you in any way you need…Korra."
Korra managed a small smile, and I ruffled Desna's hair happily. "I wasn't talking about Raava when I said your inner spirit," Tenzin said, laying a hand on Korra's shoulder. "Raava is not who you are. She never was." He stood up. "Come with me. I need to show you something."
Korra stood up slowly, shrugging my arm away before following after Tenzin, leaving the seven of us behind. I turned to the others, grinning. "Anyone want a rematch in Go Fish?" I asked, remembering the last time we played Eska cheated and won.
"Maybe a quick game," Bolin said quickly after a few seconds of thought.
"Count me in!" Bumi shouted.
"Is now really the time?" Kya and Mako demanded, their hands on their hips.
"Any time is Go Fish time," Bolin and I said in unison as Desna shuffled before passing the deck to Bolin so that he could shuffle. Bolin then passed the deck to me so that I could split it. After that Bolin dealt out the cards. "Are you two in or out?" Bolin asked Kya and Mako. They both sat down hesitantly in the circle.
… … … … … … …
"Holy spirits!" Bolin gasped, looking up in awe at something in the distance.
"Good try, Bolin, but I'm not falling for that twice in the same game," I pouted, remembering how he did that not even two minutes ago and then peeked at my cards!
"No, Kika, look," Mako said, nodding his head behind me as he put down his cards distractedly.
I bit my lip and let my curiosity get the better of me, turning around. "Oh, my," I said. "Korra grew! And she's blue!"
"Hey, that rhymed!" Bolin exclaimed, sounding too loud. I turned my head and caught him peeking at my cards again.
He chuckled nervously, backing away slowly. I leaned closer to him, staring into his eyes before reaching up and flicking him in the nose. "Ow!" he exclaimed, his hands covering his nose.
"There, consider us even," I grinned triumphantly, gathering up the cards. "I'd consider this game over. I believe Korra will need us. Or not. I really don't know."
She walked over to the arc that connected the two spirit portal and lifted her hand before being sucked into it. "Uh…what did you say to her exactly?" Bumi questioned his brother who had just rejoined us.
After a couple of minutes, I turned to the others. "Um...should we go and help or…?"
"I don't think we'll have time for that," Bolin gulped, pointing a shaky finger to our left. "Look!"
A fleet of dark spirits was rushing towards us, and something told me they didn't want to play a game of Go Fish. "They're coming for Korra!" Mako shouted, taking a defensive position.
"Wait…didn't Korra just leave the Spirit World?" I asked, looking to Bolin. "Remember she grew and turned…blue and…yeah…"
"I think that was just her spirit," Bolin replied, shrugging.
"Oh…that makes as much sense as…uh…I got nothing," I mimicked Bolin's shrug. "Whoa! Bo, Mako can bend lightning?"
"Yeah, don't you remember? He learned back when-"
"Lost interest, sorry," I shouted, rushing into the fight with the others. Unlike the others, Bumi and I were left to hand to hand combat, which was difficult against spirits, but we made it work. A dark spirit wrapped itself around Bolin's leg, yanking him towards a giant scary-looking spirit. "Bo!" I called, abandoning the spirit I was fighting in favor of saving my best friend.
However, before my short legs could carry me over there, Desna and Eska had wacked the spirit appendage away with their bending. I pouting, meeting Bolin as the twins jumped over us, doing some crazy-powerful moves. "You okay, Bo?" I asked, helping him up.
"Yeah…" he trailed off, staring after Eska. "She's awesome, isn't she?"
"Yeah, she is," I nodded. "Almost as awesome as my Dessy-Bear…"
"What are you talking about? Eska is obviously awesomer than Desna!"
"Au contraire," I rebuked. "Desna is clearly superior."
"Really? Where's your proof?" he glared.
"I can have sex with Desna," I stated. "Eska's your girl so I wouldn't fly that ship."
Bolin didn't seem to have a response to that as he just stared blankly at me before shrugging and turning his attention back to the fighting. "Aw, crap," Bolin deadpanned as a spirit came charging towards us. Desna and Eska, however, saw it and bended it away.
"Leave my precious Bolin alone!" Eska growled.
"I am so done with evil spirits," Desna stated with all the sass he could muster, which was a lot, by the way.
Bolin slid in between the two, wearing a goofy grin that reminded me of a puppet like the Cookie Monster that has its mouth wide open, his hands clasped together as if he were praying.
"Eska!" he announced. "I love you!" then he planted a big kiss on her cheek as her and her brother were getting ready for another attack. I wrapped an arm around Desna and gave him a squeeze before letting him go. "Let's go face the end of the world together!" Bolin declared after pulling away from his girlfriend. "Kika, formation 12D?"
I let my head drop and walked behind Bolin, making a diamond between the four of us, muttering about how I hated being in the back. "But, Kika, you wouldn't be able to be in the front," Bolin explained. "Because you don't have any bending."
"Oh, so now I'm inferior because I'm not as gifted as you? Is that it?"
"What? No, I didn't say that!"
I snorted. "I'm just metaphorically pulling your leg," I waved him off.
"My Bolin is so romantic," Eska noted, still thinking about the kiss.
… … … … … … …
We were all forced into the Almighty Tree of Knowledge and Power by the dark spirits who were following us in, with no way out. Bolin gulped, taking Eska's hand in his. "Well, if we're going to die then I need to tell you…Bolin, I accidently dropped your toothbrush in the toilet!" I confessed, hiding behind Desna.
"You…what?" Bolin demanded.
"It was all Mako's idea!" I replied, pointing to the fire bender in question.
"Whoa, hey, I had nothing to do with…" he trailed off. "Why do you blame me for everything?"
"Your eyebrows," I replied at the same time he answered his own question, saying, "My eyebrows…"
There was a bright light, and all the dark spirits were gone. We waited a couple of moments before tentatively making our way to the opening of the tree. "Hey! It's Korra!" I shouted, pointing up.
Korra's spirit opened her clasped hands and Raava and an illuminated figure floated down to us, and I noticed it was Jinora. Tenzin went out to meet his daughter and she said something before disappearing. Almost immediately after that, Korra's spirit began to float away in shimmering pieces before entering the tree and returning to Korra, whose eyes opened.
"Hey, where's Asami?" I asked Bolin, just noticing her absence.
"She was staying with Jinora and Katara," Mako replied immediately.
"Oh…" I turned to Korra. "Look at that. You saved the world."
She smiled at me before turning her attention to Raava. She rode on Raava's tail up to the arc of the Spirit Portal, reaching up to touch it. The arc disappeared and Korra was surrounded by a sphere of light. "Her avatar spirit has returned," Tenzin stated, watching her come back down to us.
"So pretty," I grinned, watching both Korra and the sunset-looking sky.
When Korra's feet touched the ground, her eyes glowed briefly and she stated, "It's over."
Mako, Bolin, Tenzin, and I ran over to her. Mako got there first (darn his long legs), and wrapped her in a hug, kissing her on the cheek. "I don't know what to say!" he exclaimed, looking at her lovingly.
"You were amazing," Tenzin said calmly.
"And the way you turned all gigantic like that!" Bolin threw his hands up excitedly before bringing them down in clenched fists, staring at the sky. "I just wish Varrick had been here to film it! It would've been the greatest mover ever! After…the Nuktuk Chronicles, of course."
I shushed Bolin, whispering to him that he shouldn't talk about them around Eska because she hadn't seen them yet and wouldn't appreciate seeing him kiss Ginger. "Aha, you're right," he sweat dropped, and turned to see if Eska had heard, but she and her twin were talking to Korra.
"Did…Unalaq die?" I asked Bolin under my breath.
"You know…it was really unclear," Bolin shrugged.
"Oh, well, he didn't like me anyways," I replied before gesturing to the twins. "Shall we?"
"We shall," he nodded, taking my arm and leading me over to the three in conversation. "So," Bolin started, coming to a stop. "We were thinking. We're not really fans of the whole idea of a long-distance relationship thing, so how about you move to Republic City with me?"
"And me!" I added, grinning.
"Wouldn't you need your brother's okay?" Bolin asked, getting slightly off-topic.
"Who cares," I waved him away.
"And your mother's permission."
"Who needs permission? (A/N: LittleKuriboh reference: Who needs permission? This is the internet! I can do and say whatever I want! And nothing bad will happen!)" I replied, sticking out my tongue.
"Well, you would-"
"I do not think that will be possible," Eska stated, interrupting our argument. We both snapped our heads towards the two.
Bolin sighed. "Okay, Desna can come too," he said.
"I will not be joining you, Bolin," Eska said.
"And neither I, you, Kalika," Desna added.
"We must return home," Eska concluded.
"But you said-" Bolin started.
"Eternal darkness was upon us," Eska explained guiltily. "I became caught up in the moment."
Bolin's face fell. "Yeah," he let out, shrugging sullenly. "I guess I did too…"
"But," Eska started, taking steps toward him. "You will always hold a special place in the organ that pumps my blood."
"Aww~" I cooed, leaning into Desna. "She means her heart, right?"
"Indeed," he nodded.
"I will remember you fondly," Eska continued, her voice wavering a little as though she might cry. "My turtle-duck."
"Does that mean Dessy-Bear is leaving Kika, too?" I asked, turning my face up to look at him. He nodded slowly. "Can I visit sometime?" he offered a lopsided grin, nodding a little faster now. "Do I hold a special place in the…blood that…pumps…organs? What?"
He leaned down, kissing my temple gently, running his hand through my hair. "Of course."
I grinned up at him, chuckling. "Good and you can visit sometimes too. You and Eska. Or just you, if you want."
We all left the Spirit World. Desna and Eska left the group to get arrangements to get home, and Mako and Korra went into some building, Bolin and I following at a distance. They were talking about their relationship. "It's over," Korra said. "For real this time."
Mako nodded, and they kissed. "I'll always love you, Korra," Mako said.
"And I'll always love you," Korra replied, smiling slightly before walking away.
Bolin and I walked up on either side of Mako. "You want a hug?" Bolin asked, and the two of us didn't wait for a response before we wrapped Mako in a hug from both sides.
"I'm so sad," I whined, squeezing Mako more tightly.
"I thought you hated me," Mako asked.
"I don't hate you, per say," I shrugged. "You're just a comfortable person to hug."
"Did Desna dump you?"
"Wah~" I cried. "Mako doesn't need to be so blunt about it!"
"Eska dumped me," Bolin nodded. "I love bro-hugs after suffering heartbreak."
"Super heartbreak," I sighed. "My first boyfriend…gone."
"My first real girlfriend too…"
"We could've been siblings," I told him. "If we married the twins."
"How cool would that have been?"
"So cool."
"Yeah…"
"You guys, I'm still here," Mako said, sounding uncomfortable.
There you have it! The last chapter of Show Me! But never fear! Coming to a Spirit Portal near you: a sequel that has yet to be named and written! But once it's written, or at least has a title and a first chapter, I'll post the excerpt and the title here, and you can tune it next time!
