No Turning Back – Chapter 21
"No-oo-oo." Austin sobbed, collapsing on his knees.
"Al-ly." Trish hiccupped, bursting into another set of tears, while holding onto the brunette's not lifeless hand.
"Ally..." Dez whispered, wiping tears of his own from his eyes.
"I-I am so sorry." Ryan spoke up for the first time since stepping foot into the hospital room. He walked over to Austin and knelt down on his own knees, placing an arm around the blonde.
"S-she can't be gone." The blonde said in denial. "S-she can't be." Another sob racked his body as he completely broke down, crying uncontrollably.
"I'm sorry." The dark-haired boy repeated.
"Ally." Trish said through tears, shaking her head. "Y-you were too young! You don't deserve this!"
"Shh, it's okay." Dez wrapped his arms around her, bringing her in towards him. He was crying himself.
"M-my best friend." The Latina spoke quietly. "I've waited all my life to have a girl to talk to and the second I finally get one, someone bastard kills her."
"I-I know." The redhead soothed. "She was so full of life, like a breath of fresh air."
"I-I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to ask you to leave," the doctor entered the room, an expression of sympathy on his face. "While we do the last preparations."
"We understand doctor." Ryan nodded, standing up as he helped Austin rise.
"Time of death…" the older man began to speak to a nurse, as he looked at his watch.
"Nooo!" Austin yelled. "She's not dead! She can't be!" He broke out of Ryan's grip and ran over to the bed, grabbing onto the brunette's cold hand. "Wake up Ally. Come on, I know you're alive. You have to be. I need you, please don't leave me, p-please..."
"Come on Austin," Dez spoke softly, holding out his hand as he motioned at the door. "We should go."
"But she's not dead! I know she isn't. Ally would never die like this. She wouldn't give up. She's a fighter."
The blonde looked back at the lifeless brunette lying in front of him. "I-it seems like it was only yesterday when I first met you on the plane Ally. I-I helped you get over your fear of flying. Do you remember? I told you to pretend that you were a bird and to close your eyes. Remember?"
"Austin." He looked up to see Trish walking up to him. She grabbed his hand, whilst wiping away a tear. "W-we should go."
"No!" The blonde shook his head. "We can't just leave Ally. Not like this!"
"Please." The Latina begged. "Austin we, you, have to let go. She's dead. We can't change that. All we can do is go on and continue. That's what Ally would've wanted." She gently started pulling him out of the room.
"B-but…" Austin glanced back at the brunette. "I don't want to leave her...I can't leave her! I can't l-leave h-her..." He said, holding back the sobs he was about to release.
"I-I know, neither do I. But we need to. Who knows what will happen if we continue holding on and not letting go? You know that Ally would want us to finish this in her honor. We have to." Dez said, walking to the blonde's other side.
"Missing someone is part of moving on, Austin. We'll all miss her..." Ryan added, holding back another set of tears about to fall.
"We'll get through this together." Trish added, smiling gently. "We promise."
Austin looked back at the lifeless body, lying hopelessly and helplessly. His friends were right though he hated to admit it. Ally would want him to go on and end this. She would want him to find Randy and avenge the death of her father.
"C-can I at least get to say goodbye?" He looked back at the doctor and nurses who had already entered the room and were prepared to take the brunette away.
"Go ahead son." The doctor said, smiling sympathetically.
The blonde slowly walked back to the bed and took Ally's hand in his one last time. "I-I'm so sorry it had to be like this Ally. But I promise that I will get Randy, for you. I know that's what you would want….. I'm going to miss you Ally ….im going to really, really miss you…." choking back a sob, he bent down and placed a kiss on the brunette's insensible lips.
"I'm really sorry for your loss." The doctor repeated as Austin passed him during his trudge to the door, where his friends were waiting.
"L-let's go." Austin said, trying his best to stay strong.
The trio nodded, smiling sadly at him and slowly began walking out of the room.
That's when they heard a gasp.
The blonde was the first to move, not hesitating to turn on his feet and race back towards the hospital bed.
"Ally!" He shouts, quickly followed by the Latina, redhead, and Ryan hot on his heels.
Her monitor was starting to work again and the brunette's chest was gradually starting to rise and drop, it was slow, but it was something.
"Doctor Wilson, what's going on?" Ryan questions as the other teenagers shroud around the hospital bed.
"I-I can't believe it." The doctor muttered under his breath.
"What is it? Tell me, Doctor Wilson!" Dez stated frustratedly.
"It's a miracle..." Doctor Wilson told them again, looking back over his paper work. "Unbelievable." He mutters.
"What's happening?" Ryan asks, turning to look up at the physician, but he was too busy going over his work to answer.
"W-what does this mean?" The curly hairs girl asked, a smile begging to show in her lips.
"It means she's a fighter, just like the boy said... I've never seen anything like it."
Dez looked back and forth between the Doctor, then Ally. "So what's happening? What's going on?"
"She's alive." Austin answers, his eyes never leaving the brunette's body. "Ally's alive."
"Austin I swear to God, if you don't stop pacing, I will personally make it my business to cut off both of your legs." The Latina hissed.
"I'm sorry!" The blonde exclaimed. "But it's been hours and we still haven't gotten any insight on Ally! When can we see her? She's breathing on her own, so why does she need all of those doctors and nurses around? Why can they see her, while we can't?"
"They're monitoring her to make sure that she stays in a stable condition. You heard Doctor Wilson; they need to make sure that everything is okay. Besides, they're the professional ones here. They get the priority. Once they do, I'm absolutely positive that they will let us in." Ryan said.
"Exactly! Now sit down! All of your walking is giving me a headache!" Trish yelled.
"Ugh, this is so stupid." Austin pouted, but ceased his walking nonetheless. "I want to see her."
"I know, so do the rest of us. But we're just going to have to wait until we can." Dez said, patting the empty chair next to him. "Now come on, sit down Bud."
"I swear when I see that guy, I'm going to strangle him and slam him into the wall. I'm going to kill that asshole." The blonde mumbles, reluctantly sitting down, only to start tapping his foot impatiently.
"Austin!" Trish growled.
"I'm sorry, but I can't just sit around here doing nothing when I know that Ally is in there," he points to the hospital wing where the brunette was located in, "and while Randy is out there laughing at our misery."
"Wait, that's it!" Ryan exclaimed, standing up from his seat. "Why didn't any of us think about this sooner? Austin, give me that paper that you found."
"Why?" The blonde questioned, retrieving the paper from his back pocket and handing it to the dark-haired boy.
"Because, instead of moping around here and waiting for God knows how long, we should be trying to find a trace of Randy and where he could be!" Ryan explained.
"That's genius!" Dez said, rising up from the chair. "Seriously, why didn't we think of that earlier? Instead of biting our nails and pulling out our hair, we can be looking for a lead." The redhead started following Ryan out of the hospitals.
"Where are you going?" Trish asked, standing up from her seat.
"To the car to get my laptop and the rest of our stuff. Might as well start working now."
The Latina sat back down, before looking at the blonde, whose face was scrunched up in deep thought. "Austin?" She called out. "Hello? Earth to Austin?" She stood up and waved her hand in his face.
The blonde blinked and looked up at her. "What?"
"What are you thinking about?" She asked, taking a seat next to him. "Something's bothering you."
"I just don't know about this paper. Could Dallas really have been that stupid to let it fall out of his pocket or leave it in open sight?"
"So you think it may be a decoy or something? To get us to go to that place and be completely surprised or arrive at another dead end?"
Austin nodded. "I'm not entirely sure, but it's highly possible. Randy's a tricky guy and I wouldn't put it past him to do something like this."
"It is possible, but it won't hurt us if we try to look into it." The Latina said, just as Ryan and Dez returned equipment in hand.
"You guys ready to start?" Ryan questioned.
"Uh, yeah." Trish answered, giving Austin's hand a reassuring squeeze before rising out of her seat to help the other two set up.
"Okay, so what's the plan?" Austin asked, moving to the edge of his seat. He was ready to do whatever it took to find that bastard who had hurt his Ally.
"Dez and I will continue trying to break into Randy's system to see if we can find out what he's planning next. You and Trish can look into anything that you can find on Randy. I know we've already tried that, but maybe with this address, we can find some more information. So try and see if you can find any suspicious activity reported from that location." Ryan explained, handing them the paper. "Is everyone good with that?"
"Yeah." The three teenagers replied, instantly getting to work.
In the middle of their search, Austin's phone started ringing. Trish, Dez, and Ryan turned their attention to him as he fished it out of his pocket.
Looking at the number, the blonde remembered that it was the same one that his father had called him from before.
"Who is it?" Dez questioned.
"Uh, no one." Austin quickly replied, hitting the ignore call button and shoving the device back into his pocket. There was no way he would be able to take the call when the three of them were right there. His father had told him to keep their contact a secret.
Seemingly satisfied with the answer, they returned back to the computer screens. Trish had ceased her phone searching to peer over Dez's shoulder as he tried to hack into Randy's system.
"I'm going to the bathroom." Austin said, standing up from his chair. He didn't wait for a reply from the others before he turned a random corner in the hospital. Just as he lost his friends, his phone started ringing again.
It was the same number.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Why didn't you pick up before?" His father was heard on the other line.
"I had to find a private place to talk." Austin replied.
"Are you all right?"
"Yes, but Ally's in the hospital. We got int—"
"I know what happened. I'm sorry to hear about Ally. I hope she's okay."
"She is now. I .. we …. Thought she was dead."
"I know, and I'm sorry. I tried my best to stop Randy from making Dallas do that, but he refused. He said it was a vital part of the plan. Is she alright now?"
"Yeah. It's a miracle. She's breathing on her own now. Why'd you call?"
"I wanted to make sure that you were okay."
"Dad, what's going on? Why is Randy so set on getting Ally? He already killed Lester, so why does he need her for? And why are you involved in this?"
"It's a long and complicated story Austin."
"But you told me last time you would tell me."
"I know, but now is not the time. There are people watching everywhere. It's not safe. But I will tell you once all of this blows over."
"Where are you anyway?"
"That's not important. I know your friends are trying to enter Randy's system. But they won't be able to get anywhere with the codes that they're using. Randy implemented an old coding system that no one uses anymore when he created the whole thing, so that no one would be able to break into it."
"So, what are they supposed to do?"
The line went dead.
"Hello? Dad?" Austin asked, bringing the phone away from his ear, only to see that the call was disconnected. "So much for help." He muttered, prepared to shove the device into his pocket. But then the message tone sounded and he looked at the screen.
New message from Unknown.
The blonde unlocked the phone and opened the message. He didn't understand what was written, it was a jumble of numbers and letters. But he didn't have to know what is said in order to know what is was.
It was the code to hack into Randy's system.
"Thanks Dad." Austin smiled, before turning on his heels and running back to the front of the hospital.
"There you are Austin!" Dez exclaimed once he saw him. "We were starting to worry what took you so long."
"Guys, I have something that can help. I got an anonymous message with some code on it. I'm guessing it's from the same guy who sent the email list to Ally. Here." Austin showed Ryan and Dez the screen.
"Whoa. This is a really old style. Almost all computer systems don't use this." Ryan said.
"Exactly why Randy would use it." Dez said grinning. He took the phone and started copying the message into his own code.
"Well, is it working?" Trish asked eagerly, jumping up and down from her seat.
"I'm in!" The redhead yelled.
"Yes!" We can finally get him!" Austin cheered.
"Wait a minute." Ryan said, peering over the redhead's shoulder. "This doesn't look that safe. I'm not sure I trust this, Dez."
"That address," Trish interrupted, pointing to something on the bottom of the screen. "Is right by here. It's like a few minutes' drive away."
"Why would he have that address listed?" Austin asked.
"Maybe he has another group stationed there, to keep an eye on us?"
"Dez, try looking that address up." The blonde instructed.
"Will do." The redhead nodded, instantly opening a browsing page. However, just as he started typing in the address, the screen went black.
"What happened?" Austin asked.
"I don't know!" Dez exclaimed, pressing the power button. "It just shut off and it won't turn on!"
"I told you I had a bad feeling about that code. Randy probably suspected us of trying to hack into his system, so he changed the code to disable any computer that entered in successfully besides his."
"Damn it." The blonde hissed, curling his hand into a fist. "We were so close!"
"Uh, guys?" Trish said, taking out her phone. "Look at this."
Meet me at 256 Cleveland Lane tomorrow at 12 pm. There's a package located under the chair at the left. Bring it with you.
"What the hell?" Dez said, as he found the aforementioned package.
"Do you think it's Randy?" The Latina questioned.
"There's only one way to find out." Ryan replied.
"Looks like we're going on a trip tomorrow." Austin added.
"Excuse me." A voice from behind the four of them said.
"Yes?" Ryan asked, the foursome turning around.
It was Doctor Wilson. "Miss Dawson is awake."
Austin instantly took off running at the words, pushing past nurses and other doctors on his way to the brunette's room. By the time he got there, he was exhausted and out of breath, but he didn't care. He could finally see her.
He stepped into the open room. "Ally," he breathed.
"Austin." She whispered.
Within seconds, he was by her side, crushing her in a tight hug. "Ally, I was so scared. I thought that we were going to lose you forever." He murmured into her ear. "Why did you put the helmet on my head? Why did you want to save me?"
"That's not important." The brunette replied.
"Of course it is! You died, well, nearly..."
"I'm not going anywhere. Not soon, anyway. Just be glad I'm okay, I fought it, like you told me to."
"You heard me speaking to you?"
She nodded. "It's like you pulled me back...I followed your voice. Your the one who saved me..."
He couldn't respond, so he just hugged her tighter, but was careful to not break her.
"Where are the others?"
"They're coming. I sort of may have run off when the doctor told us that you were awake…."
And as if right on cue, the trio walked into the room.
"Ally!" Trish and Dez exclaimed, running over to embrace her in large group hug.
"Hey guys."
"Thank goodness you are okay." The Latina says, tears in her eyes.
"We were so worried before, until you started breathing again." The redhead added.
"Great to see you awake Ally." Ryan spoke up.
"Have you guys found anything interesting yet?" Ally asks. "I hope my accident didn't disrupt you or anything."
"Well, we were able to hack into Randy's system. But then something killed my computer." Dez pouted.
"We think that Randy probably thought we were trying to break in, so he made some bug or something like that." Ryan explained.
"But we still have the address that I found." Austin said.
"And someone texted us saying they want us to meet up with them tomorrow." Trish added.
"Then, what are you waiting for?" Ally said. "Go and kill that bastard."
