Chapter Twenty-One: Tell Him
"Bye, Luke!" Cassie called as she waved goodbye to Luke and Sarah Jane. "Good luck!" She winked playfully at Luke, knowing that he planned on telling his mother about "stuff" today. But that hardly mattered to her. Today, Cassie had a goal in mind, and she was going to achieve it.
The team walked back into the Hub, and Cassie had to make a split-second decision. Would it be better to get this done right now? Or should she wait until the end of the day. Hardly a difficult decision to make. She was fifteen and the Doctor's daughter. Forget Yvonne; Impatient was her middle name.
"Gwen?" She walked over to Gwen's side. "A word?"
"Um… yeah?" She allowed Cassie to lead her into a quiet spot. "What's going on?"
"So… when are you planning on telling him?"
"Telling… who… what?" Oh, God, no… Cassie couldn't possibly know… could she?
"Oh, please. Like you don't know." Does she know? She held up her screwdriver. "I've known basically from the start. Three weeks in? This baby's pretty good… no pun intended." Okay, yeah, she knows. "So when are you going to tell him?"
"I'm not sure," Gwen admitted. "I don't know how he's going to react…"
"Oh, please," Cassie repeated. "Jack's going to be thrilled. So will the others, for that matter. I'll tell you, Ianto's going to have a bloody field day."
"That's true… Oh, God, Cassie, I don't know-"
"Oh my God, Gwen, just tell him!"
"Tell me… what?" Gwen turned to see Jack standing behind her.
"You knew he was there, didn't you…" She glared at Cassie, smirking triumphantly. "Damn you, Cassie Tyler!"
"See ya!" She laughed aloud and ran off.
"Okay, what's going on?" Jack asked curiously. "What're you keeping from me?"
Gwen sighed, and whispered into Jack's ear.
"No way…" he gasped. "Gwen, you're kidding…"
"Not kidding," she whispered, face flushing.
"Oh my God…" He broke into a huge smile. "Oh my God, Gwen!" He picked her up and swung her around. "I can't even believe it-"
"Oi! You two! You're missing the field day!" Cassie and the others were all laughing heartily at the whole thing.
"Cassie," Gwen groaned. "Did you really have to-"
"Oh, come on, it's fantastic," Ianto grinned back.
"You would say that," Gwen muttered. "Oh my God… we're going to have a kid. There's going to be a kid running around this place."
"Good thing I'm here, then," Cassie replied. "Experienced babysitter."
"I guess-Ah!" For Jack had just come up behind her and hugged her tightly.
"You're amazing, you know that?" He kissed the top of her head. "And you're going to make a great mom; I can tell."
"Oh, definitely," Tosh interjected. "Gwen, I'm so happy for you." She walked over to Gwen and pulled her in for a hug.
Owen, of course, had to be Owen and say, "How the hell are we going to manage a kid running around this place?"
"We'll figure it out," Ianto replied. "Come on, Owen, be happy for Gwen. Or at least don't take every opportunity possible to be an ass." Owen would've retorted, but Tosh laughed and thus he was forced to stay silent.
"Okay, news this great has to be shared," Jack grinned.
"Subwave?" Cassie guessed.
"You betcha," Jack replied. "Oh, wait, Mickey Mouse isn't part of the Subwave, is he? He wasn't last time…"
"I can reprogram it to find him," Cassie grinned. "Let me get it going, okay?" She ran for the computers and began typing in a string of commands. "I'm going to write in a code that tells them it's non-emergency," she explained. "Okay, opening Subwave Network in three… two… one!"
UNIT Headquarters, New York, NY
"Dr. Jones? A message just came in on your computer. Something about a Subwave Network? It says non-emergency; should I ignore it?"
"Did you say Subwave?" Martha checked.
"Yes, a Subwave Network."
"Then you absolutely shouldn't ignore it. There in a minute. Hold on." She pulled out her radio. "Mickey Smith, report to my office immediately. The Subwave Network I told you about has been activated."
13 Bannerman Road
"Sarah Jane. Incoming message from the Subwave Network. Origin: Torchwood Hub in Cardiff."
"Open it!" Sarah Jane exclaimed to Mr. Smith. "Luke! Come quick!"
The TARDIS
"Doctor, incoming message," Rose called. "It's the Subwave."
The Doctor slid out from under the console. "Open it! Donna! Get in here!"
They activated the screen to see the Torchwood team, Martha and Mickey, and Sarah Jane and Luke. "Hello! Who activated the Subwave?"
"We did," Cassie replied, just as Sarah Jane said, "Torchwood."
"Long time no see," Luke grinned. The two kids shared a laugh.
"Alright, make this quick," Mickey replied. "Before we get yelled at."
"Okay, okay," Cassie replied. "Alright, who's doing the honors? Gwen? Jack? Or am I going to have to embarrass you both?"
"No, I'll do it." Gwen took a deep breath. "I'm pregnant."
"No way!" Martha grinned broadly. "Oh, Gwen, congratulations!" Donna, Rose, and Sarah Jane echoed her. The Doctor was meanwhile staring at the screen with insanely wide eyes.
"Doctor. You're supposed to say congratulations." Rose nudged him in the arm.
"Right… congratulations… Cassie, how long did you know?" He grinned at his daughter, knowing that she was the one to figure it out.
"Five days in," Cassie replied. "Actually, more like three, but I scanned her with my screwdriver a week later to confirm."
"And how long was it before you harassed poor Gwen?" Rose raised an eyebrow at her daughter.
"It's only been a week," Gwen replied. "Cassie was relatively patient. Emphasis on relatively." Everyone laughed at this.
"Well, congratulations, Gwen," Martha grinned. "And now Mickey and I really do have to go. We're getting yelled at."
"Alright," Cassie grinned. "We'll see you guys soon. We'll all have to get together at some point."
"Definitely," Martha replied. A voice called from somewhere offscreen. "Yeah, we're coming! Gotta go, guys! Bye!" And their faces disappeared from the screen.
"We probably should go, too," Cassie mused. "Bye everyone!" And she shut off the screen. "Well. That's that settled. What now?" She looked at Ianto. "Rooftop?"
"Definitely rooftop. Move it, you two." And the entire team forced the two new parents up the stairs, all laughing.
Hey guys! Here's chapter twenty-one! I've been on the edge of my seat waiting to write this one. So, what do you think of this new plot point?
