Chapter 21
Confirmed.
Fucking exams were finally over! Who thought up about having a six-day exams though? And almost every two months, more exams! Whoever it was, he or she wasn't thinking! Was it fun torturing us until our brains fried?! Students gonna turn blind at this rate. Studying, studying, and more studying...!
There was no club activities during this week due to the boring exams. It was only mere minutes when I took my last exams for today and I was walking around in school to find some peace. And maybe nap. Satsuki might end up looking for me, but last I recalled she ran off. Something about talking to the teachers about today's exams. Hell, I didn't know.
I rather nap than to move so much right now. ...The library sounded like a good idea and it was already along the way.
Yawning, I opened the door and heard a voice or two nearby. That was fine, as long as no one was causing a commotion. My eyes were dropping down a couple of times and I walked pass a couple of computers.
...With some effect, I guess the exams did take my mind of off Senpai. That was the only good thing about studying, but I didn't believe it was even worth it. I hated reading hours and hours! ARRRRGGGG. That made me realized I rather be thinking about that brunette!
Not that I missed her that much. I think some time between the two of us got me focusing on what I usually do. Nap, play basketball, and hanging with my friends. ...Yeah. I feel much better now. Unlike six days ago, Senpai's not constantly on my mind. I felt I ate something 'healthy' for once.
Walking by the tall bookshelves, I made sure to pick a spot where no one was. The voices were becoming more distant and I strolled a bit more. Coming to an area where one of the group tables were, I stopped. My mouth left ajar as I saw Senpai's back.
She was sitting on a chair, her arms leaned on the table, it would seemed. She was damn quiet as hell and I thought I heard her writing for a few seconds. Then she would pause and sigh.
Slowly, I tried to be silent as I walked up to her. I didn't think I would see her here, which was a nice surprise. And here I thought I would turn the other way to avoid her, but my feet moved on their own.
I wanted to see her face again. It was a long six days!
Suddenly, I stopped again. Over her shoulder, my eyes peered down at a notebook in front of her. She held a blue pen and was scribbling without much care. She was drawing... and was that me she was sketching? Why was she drawing me with a big smile for?
"...What are you doing, Senpai?"
The brunette girl flinched and her head snapped to look up at me. My body was leaned over, obviously showing that I peeked at her notebook. Her blue eyes widened for a sec, however she frowned. I blinked at her and she turned her head back down to her notebook.
Eh? She wasn't going to say anything? What was up with that?
Around the table, I took the seat in front of her. Senpai slightly blushed when I sat down and I curiously gave her a silent look, wondering what she was getting all red for.
Smirking, I asked, "You're drawing me? Why?" It was like nothing ever happened between us. It was like we were always like this. It was like I never studied so hard to forget her at all.
She took her pen and gripped on it. Her expression became hard and focused. It wasn't long before she answered, "I was drawing you, so... I can do this." Her hand with the pen rose in the air, right over the notebook.
Then she stabbed the page with the pen and I jumped in my seat at the loud sound. She stabbed it a few more times before panting with anger or either annoyance. Or maybe embarrassment. When she stopped, I could only stared, dumbfounded. She toss her pen to the side and it rolled off the table, landing on the tiled floor.
"...What are you so angry about?" I almost snorted arrogantly at her.
She dropped her head into her arms on the table to hide her expression. "I'm not angry," she grumbled under there.
"Then why did you stab a picture of me?" She didn't answer and I raised an eyebrow. One would think she was mad at me with all that stabbing. "...Why did you draw me?" Still no respond.
Answer me, damn it! I tried to be as composed as much as possible, but I had to know.
"Were you thinking about me?" I inquired next, lowering my voice. Senpai still didn't say anything. She wasn't even moving. ...Was she sick again?
With my right hand, I ruffled with her hair and she slapped it away as she sat up straight. "Don't mess with my hair!" she warned with a light glare.
I grinned, "Just wanted to be sure you weren't sick, Senpai."
She honestly looked bashful, yet her eyes became baggy. She seemed out of it. "I'm not sick, baka," she mumbled, moving to lean her chin on her palms over the table. She saw me smiling a little, making her pout. "What's so funny?"
"Well... it's confirmed," I told her. She gave me a funny look. I closed my mouth and kept it to myself.
I knew it now. She liked me too. Why else would she draw me? No girl did that sort of thing unless she liked them, right? I was sure as hell I was right!
The thing now, she was too stubborn to admit it.
Senpai didn't speak, staring at me closely. I stared back, looking into her light blue eyes. Her face turned a bit red and she lowered her gaze to the table. "Aomine, I'm sorry," she suddenly said.
I blinked. And hoped she meant how she treated me in the past. "For what?" I asked.
"Because just seconds ago, I thought, 'Everything was fine before I met you.' But really... I'm glad we've met."
Eh? "Where did that come from?" I sneered.
She pouted, leaning more heavily into her palms. "A random thought, so shut up," she harshly remarked. Then she quickly added, "Not only you though, I'm glad to have met Aida and Momo-chan. And the rest of the guys, even if I hadn't talked to all of them."
Forget about the others guys, you need only me!
"Just... don't drive me nuts," she murmured, hiding her mouth in her palms now. Her eyebrows furrowed, giving a childish look.
Her red face got even more cuter. Still stubborn, but her eyes watered for a mere moment and fixed on me. My chest ached at her gaze and what she was doing to me again. "...Right back at you, Senpai," I smirked. "Don't drive me nuts."
She nodded, still looking at me. I stared again and once more she avoided looking too long.
"Senpai."
"What?" She didn't look up.
Slightly, I leaned forward. And bluntly asked, "Can I kiss you?"
Her hand swiftly slapped the side of my head and I dryly looked at her, unfazed by her sudden movement. "In your dreams!" she stuck her tongue out at me.
As fast as she was when she hit me, I was quicker. I had leaned forward before she could react and I licked her tongue. She freaked out, backing away as I begun snickering at her blushing face. She cursed and spitted at me, though I moved away before any got on me. "Oh, you didn't rage as I thought you were gonna," I noted, smirking widely at her. Have she been kissed like that before, I wondered? She did have that ex-boyfriend... so maybe?
Loudly, Senpai's fist hit the table and she nearly exclaimed, "You need to fix that fucking personality of yours! I don't like it!" She spitted to the side, clearly showing she didn't like what I did to her.
"As long as you don't hate it," I shrugged, looking away with boredom.
She hissed, "Aomine, respect your Senpais!"
I nodded away, not really listening and she continued to lecture like an old hag. "You know what I don't like about you?" I eyed her, narrowing my eyes. She stopped talking and glared at me. "I don't like how stubborn you are."
As if it was nothing new, she gave me the finger. "Right back at you, asshole," she whispered, hoping an adult around wouldn't hear her. Then she moved to tear the page of her notebook and crumbled it. I tilted my upper body to the side as she threw it pass me. "Go to hell, Aomine!"
"I'll bring you down with me."
She groaned with disgust, "Who'd go with you?!"
"You know you want to." She looked up upset with me, but before we could continue, my phone was ringing. I took it out and saw it was from Satsuki. I flattened my face and decided to answer it, "Yeah?"
"Where are you right now, Dai-chan?" she inquired.
"I'm with Senpai," I replied. Out of the blue, Satsuki giggled loudly and I had to put the phone away from my ear. Senpai blinked at me as I slowly put the phone back to my ear. "This is great! I was just going to ask her something! Let me talk to her, please?"
"Why?" I frowned. Satsuki might be planning something.
"Just do it!"
My eyes glued to Senpai and she pointed to herself. "...Satsuki wants to talk to you," I told her.
"Oh," Senpai smiled. I held out my phone and she took it without touching my hand. My eyes were twitching when she did that because I was at least expecting a slight contact. "Momo-chan?" she turned her whole body on her chair and started to chat.
"Don't you carry a phone?" I questioned as loudly as I could. It would be convenient for me so Satsuki didn't have to tell me to lend my phone to Senpai.
The brunette waved her hand to disregard me and was saying, "Tomorrow? What for?" I stayed quiet, trying to pick up Satsuki's voice the best I could. "...Why?" Senpai whined. "How many times do I have to say that I rather not go out?"
My eyes lifted and I pondered what Satsuki was saying.
"...Mannnn," Senpai was now frowning. "Okay, okay, but only for an hour. Mom will say 'yes' to that one for sure." Then I heard Satsuki laughing happily and Senpai quickly handed my cell phone back. "Here."
With my hand stretched out, she dropped it into my palm. I wanted to talk to Satsuki what was up. But I heard a click and it was already too late. "What were you two talking about?" I decided to dig out the information out of her.
Senpai pouted and leaned back against her chair to make herself more comfortable. "None of your business," she slowly smirked.
Narrowing my eyes, I stared down at her. This time, she wasn't looking away and appeared to be satisfied. "Fine, I don't care," I went to lean back on my own chair. She kicked me under the table and I glared. "What was that for?"
"...Just flirting," she snickered.
"You call that flirting?" I sneered. And why out of the blue?
"Hey, I'm not an expert," she stated, almost proudly. "And I felt like kicking you. So?"
I was rolling my eyes, but a smile was on my face. I couldn't help but enjoy our little time here. Good thing I came here. Blinking, Senpai stood up and I did the same too. "Where are you off to?"
She gave me a look like I was stupid. "I'm heading home—" I walked around the table to get closer to her, but then she said, "And no, you're not coming with me!"
"Our home is in the same direction anyway," I shrugged, flashing a grin at her. "What are you going to do about it, huh?"
[*~*]
Without much effort, Senpai didn't do anything. I was walking her home, but unfortunately Satsuki caught us and came along. I was giving a disapproved glance as she walked by me. Senpai was walking ahead of us, though she took her time walking. It had only been two minutes since we left school, or maybe it was five, but who was counting?
Ignoring Satsuki's grin, I brought my eyes to Senpai's back. I got curious about one thing. "Have you kissed before, Senpai?"
In a mere second, Satsuki slapped across my arm and I gave her a bored look. She pouted as Senpai looked over her shoulder to us. "Why are you even asking?" Senpai rolled her eyes, turning her head forward.
"Do I really have to answer that?" I questioned. Was it not obvious? I wanted to know because I was interested in her. I liked to know more about her. Even just a little bit. ...And I damn as hell wanted to know if any guys kissed her. Pissed me off, now that I was thinking about it.
Satsuki sighed with a comment, "Aomine-kun, please don't ask such personal questions."
"It's not really personal, is it?" I countered her, raising an eyebrow. She shook her head and let out another sigh.
"If you want to know," Senpai said, almost mumbling. I gazed to her back and she answered, "Yes. But it's more like... I have been kissed before. I never really exactly kissed any one. Maybe just babies and my adorable little sister, Mami. Her cheeks are so cute to kiss!" A vein popped in my head, my eyes burned on her figure. Satsuki was nudging me, sensing me getting irritated. Senpai snickered and walked backward to look at me and Satsuki. "There, happy now? You got your answer. Did it make you feel any better, Aomine-chan?"
"How many boyfriends did you have then?" I pressed for more.
Before Satsuki frowned at me, Senpai replied, "Just two. Back in middle school."
"You had two?!" I retorted. Who the fuck liked Senpai that much?! Whereas Senpai cracked up, Satsuki found herself giggling too. I gave both girls a look, wondering what was so fucking funny. Brushing their laughter off, I then inquired Senpai, "And both of them kissed you?"
Averting her body, Senpai told me, "That's enough answers for today. I don't feel like sharing you with the past anyway. It's so awkward."
I snapped as she started to run off. "Hey!" I shouted.
"Don't follow me home!" she waved, hurrying ahead. "I can manage here!" I didn't bother to move and couldn't just leave Satsuki here by herself. Only able to glare, Senpai had added, "See you next week, Aomine!"
My mouth partly opened. ...Did I hear that right? Did she just said we'd see each other again? Had she finally give me a proper goodbye? Gosh, I didn't believe, but why was I smiling for?
Satsuki was chuckling and I gave her a dry expression. She smiled up at me, looking rather bright and grinning from ear to ear. "Dai-chan, you're starting to look much better than yesterday and the days before that," she observantly nodded, pleased.
I forced my smile in and still gave her the same quiet look. "So?" I fixed my eyes on the road and saw Senpai had gone from sight. Walking forward, Satsuki followed closely. She simpered and must have decided to keep her mouth shut from teasing further. "Say, Satsuki..." I glanced to her.
She tilted her head, her bangs playing on the sides of her face. "Yes, Dai-chan?"
"...Do you think Senpai likes me too?"
No signs of hesitation from her. She replied cheerfully, "Of course she likes you!" Her hand patted on my arm and I blinked. "Suzu-senpai clearly doesn't accept it yet, but she'll be with you before both of you know it! I promise~!"
Now I couldn't stop smiling with her. Now I started to understand why Satsuki always smiled when she was with Tetsu. This feeling felt... kinda awkward, but I believe I would get used to it sooner or later. Hell, I would even adore it!
And I won't let Senpai run like that again, whether she was with the Basketball Club or not.
"Dai-chan, are you free tomorrow?" My eyes glued to Satsuki as she smirked up at me. I couldn't uttered a word, wondering why she was asking cause I just might sleep in. That was what Sundays were for. Then she winked and notified, "Ai-chan said she wanted a few guys for a little fun practice game tomorrow."
I only stared at her, still wondering what was behind those mischievous pink eyes of my childhood friend.
