Oneshot 25: Tea Shop Drama
by AshAnime
They simply did not understand.
Women of their age had way more experience then the young and innocent Fuu. It was only natural for them to want to impart some of this wisdom unto the girl. It was only natural for them to want to show her the error of her ways.
They truly did not understand.
They couldn't fathom why the cheery girl had merely smiled and shook her head, completely dismissing their advice. Was she really that naïve, or had their old eyes missed something?
"It doesn't make any sense," chirped the eldest of the three sisters. Without her there the tea shop would have ran into the ground ages ago. She was the one who found Fuu aimlessly wondering around town in search of a job just last year.
"No sense at all," the other two agreed, nodding their old heads.
Fuu had always seemed like a sensible girl to them. Sure she had her ditzy moments, but that was normal for a girl her age. Yet her relations, with that wild eyed and tattoo clad pirate, was something they simply could not comprehend.
"He's a dog," clucked the second oldest, Azami. "A criminal."
The youngest, Momoka, nodded fiercely. "Should we intervene, Nana? The child needs guidance."
Nana glanced back and forth between her little sisters and let out an aged sigh. "Of course she needs guidance, but I'm sure our Fuu wouldn't want three old prunes meddling in her affairs. We'll watch from a safe distance, and when she needs us, we'll be there."
Their wrinkly faces split into wide grins.
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
And so they watched.
They watched the way Fuu would hurry towards the end of her shift, glancing at the front entrance of the tea shop every five minutes in the hopes of seeing a scruffy head of hair.
They watched the way the pirate would waltz in as if he owned the place, knowing fully well that the little sunflower's shift wasn't over yet. He'd find a seat in the back and sit there until she was done, not even ordering a single thing.
They lost a lot of customers on those days.
They watched, pale eyes ever observant, as Fuu swatted him away every time he pulled on her hair or untied her apron. Didn't he know it only prolonged her shift?
They watched as the two stood just outside the shop one evening, hate filled words tumbling out of Fuu's trembling lips. Their keen eyes flickered towards the pirate, trying as best as they could to gauge any sort of emotion out of his rather indifferent face.
As far as they could see, he had none.
And just when they thought it was over between the two, just when they thought they didn't have to worry about their little Fuu any longer, he returned.
The regular customers watched on in amusement, knowing fully well what went down last week. Everyone held their breath when Fuu emerged from the kitchen and spotted Mugen in the shop's doorway. Nana grabbed her sisters by their brittle wrists, forcing them to stay put. "Don't intervene," she whispered quietly, getting grumbles of complaint from the both of them.
"Mugen?" Fuu whispered, obviously surprised. But then the softness in her features slipped away like a mask, and her mouth was drawn taut. "Mugen."
Every head turned towards the relaxed looking pirate in the doorway, waiting for what he might say next.
"Meet me outside," he muttered, voice gruff.
"No," Fuu shot back, causing heads to swivel. "Whatever you have to say you can say right here."
Mugen sighed and rolled his eyes. It seemed he was used to this brash attitude Fuu often adopted. The whole shop watched with intense curiosity as he reached into the pocket of his shorts and pulled out a small box. A few gasps came from a group of starry eyed girls sitting by the window seat.
That couldn't be what they thought it was… right?
"He's delusional," Azami hissed into her older sister's ear, "if he thinks he can just walk in her and pull out something like that!"
Nana raised a single hand. "Wait… and listen."
They turned their heads to see Fuu giving the pirate a skeptical look. She eyed the box in his hand and folded her arms. "What's that?"
Without warning Mugen tossed the box in her direction and Fuu scrambled to catch it. Not a single whisper could be heard as she carefully opened it and stared down at the contents inside. Momoka leaned forward eagerly at the sight of Fuu's wide eyed stare. What had rendered her so speechless?
"What's in the damn box?!" someone finally blurted, startling Fuu out of her daze. The three sisters were surprised to see unshed tears in her large browns eyes.
"Seeds," she whispered, her gaze catching Mugen's once again. "Sunflower seeds."
He stared at her for a second longer, before looking away and shrugging.
"Mugen how- Where did you find these?" Her voice was a wobbly mess but Fuu didn't seem to care. It was as if the whole shop had fallen away, and the only two left in the world were her and the crass pirate.
"Doesn't matter," he answered, scratching the back of his head. "You kept going on and on about how unfair it was that they burned down your old man's sunflower orchid. You were mad at me so I needed an easy present."
Fuu let out a breathy laugh and clutched the small box to her chest. "This isn't an easy present, Mugen. Sunflowers are very rare in Japan… but you already knew that, didn't you?"
He didn't answer and the tea shop's owners and customers anxiously waited to see if the cute waitress was going to forgive the surly vagabond.
They watched as Fuu placed one foot in front of the other until she was running towards Mugen. Her arms reached out and grabbed him, causing the pirate to take a step back and brace himself. "Thanks you big jerk," she cried, voice muffled in his shirt. "Thank you so much."
Azami and Momoka shared a smug look before shrugging. Nana simply shook her head and let all of her worries disappear. They were still confused by the rogue's impassive gaze and limp arms as Fuu hugged him to death. They still wondered how someone could give something that meant so much and still have that emotionless face.
But Nana knew that the three had been wrong to be skeptical as Mugen's lips did the briefest of touches against Fuu's forehead.
It really wasn't that hard to understand.
The two idiots were in love.
Hope you guys liked this one! It's actually one of my favorites now:) As I was writing the three old sisters I found myself slowly getting attached to them, lol.
Also i agree with most of you guy's favorite Fuugen scenes. It makes you hope that the couple was cannoned from the start right?:)
