Lex awoke to the harsh lights of Med Bay and sighed to herself. No matter how hard she tried to stay out of this place it seemed she was always here. She tried to sit up and look herself over but this produced pain all over her body and a strong wave of nausea. Lex fell back onto the bed with a moan and curled up on her side.
"You should try the other side." A calm voice told her.
"What?" She asked quietly, not daring to even raise her voice lest the pain should return.
"Laying on your left side is better for you dear." Lex rolled over slowly and Ororo came into view.
"Hi." The girl said timidly. Ororo smiled kindly at her.
"How are you feeling?" She asked.
"It hurts." Lex complained.
"Probably so, do you remember what happened?" Ororo inquired.
"I fell out of the Blackbird." Lex replied.
"Yes, you gave us all quite the scare. You have three stitches in your left knee and bruising over most of your back and legs." The woman informed her.
"Ororo?"
"Yes dear?"
"Is, umm…is the…?" She trailed off, embarrassment keeping her from saying the words.
"The child is alright, it was a very near thing though. Why did you not tell us?" Ororo asked. She reached down and put her hand on Lex's stomach. Tears filled the young girl's eyes.
"I'm sorry. I was…I was so scared." She cried. "I only just told Piotr last night."
"Shh, little one, shhh. Everything will be alright." Ororo wiped the tears off of Lex's face. "I'm going to go get Dr. McCoy now, alright? Just stay quiet and still until he sees you."
"Okay." Lex whimpered. Ororo smiled sweetly at her again before disappearing around the curtain Lex now realized separated her bed from the rest of the room. She prayed that there was no one on the other side to overhear her conversation with Ororo. Not that it really mattered, everyone on the beach had heard Logan's shouting, doubtless. She hadn't meant for the secret to get out until she and Piotr had had time to speak with Dr. McCoy and the Professor, but now everyone knew, wonderful.
The curtain around her bed was pulled aside, revealing a very disheveled looking Dr. Hank McCoy.
"Look who's finally awake." He teased, setting down a bag of equipment on the floor.
"What time is it?" Lex asked curiously.
"It's about one O'Clock in the morning. Not that you'd be able to tell by this place, the whole team is out there waiting to find out how you are." He informed her. Lex blushed profusely. "With your permission of course. I'd never say anything if it wasn't all right with you."
"I know, it's okay. They all know don't they?" She asked.
"It was fairly difficult to miss Logan's little outburst on the beach."
"Fantastic." She said bitterly.
"He saved your life, or at least your baby's life." He told her.
"I know, tell him I said thank you?" She asked.
"Of course. Let's get you looked over, alright?" Lex nodded in agreement. Dr. McCoy reached for the stethoscope around his neck. Lex laid silently while he listened to her heart and lungs, took her temperature, and checked her blood pressure.
"Now for the fun part." He announced. Lex looked at him skeptically. "I'm assuming you haven't been to a doctor about the kiddo yet?"
"No, we were going to tell you about in a few days. After we'd had a chance to let it sink in a little." She told him.
"Well I'm very sorry that you didn't get as much time as you wanted to get used to the idea, but if you'd like we can see the baby now." Dr. McCoy offered. Lex nodded eagerly and the man pulled back the curtain again to reveal an ultrasound machine. "You're only about five weeks pregnant so at this stage it looks a little more like a tadpole than anything else but it's still pretty cool to look at."
"How could you be such an idiot?" Logan shouted, brandishing his claws at Piotr.
"Get out of my face!" Piotr shouted back, pushing away Logan's hands. He turned to walk away from the older man but was grabbed from behind.
"Have you got any idea what you've done?!" Logan's shouting drew others out into the hallway right in front of Lex's room.
"Why are you screaming?" Jubilee complained, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"Yeah! People are trying to sleep!" Jamie added. Logan ignored these protests as he shoved Piotr into the wall.
"Stop! Zhere iz no need to act zis way!" Piotr shouted. "We can talk about zhis like grown men Logan." He tried to reason with the Wolverine.
"A man would've acted more responsibly. Now you've ruined everything!" Logan hissed.
"Vhat have I ruined?" Piotr asked insistently. "It iz a child not a demon!"
"We'll never get her back now." Logan growled. "All because of you."
"Vhat do you mean Logan?" Piotr asked. Logan just turned his back on the boy and retreated down the hallway.
"What the heck was that about?" Jubilee insisted.
"Yeah, and what's this baby you were talking about? You didn't get Lex knocked up did ya?" Asked Tabitha. Piotr looked at her and tried to deny it but he only succeeded in stammering incoherently.
"Oh my God you did!" Jubilee laughed. He sighed and went into Lex's room, locking the door behind him.
"Bobby Dr. McCoy told you not to walk on it!" Lizzie insisted as the teenager attempted to hobble away from her on his wrapped up ankle. He'd been thrown around quite a bit in the back of the jet and had a nice assortment of injuries to show for it.
"It's fine Liz! Calm down." Bobby told her.
"Bobby if that's what the Doctor said then you should listen!" Rahne
"Yeah right Rahne, you just want to agree with Lizzie." Bobby scoffed.
"That's not true!" The Scot cried indignantly.
"Just run off with your little girlfriend." Bobby said dismissively. He succeeded in hobbling out of the room and slammed the kitchen door shut behind him.
"Girlfriend!" Lizzie laughed. "Did you hear…" When she saw the look of pain flash across Rahne's face she realized her mistake. "Oh, Rahne I didn't…I didn't know." She took a step towards the girl but Rahne ran away from her. "Oh shit." Lizzie sighed as she watched the young girl run away up the steps.
