Chapter 25
Professor: Hello all of my lovely people! So the snow where I live has made it so that I can't drive anywhere. So, this means that, except for work and cleaning my sister's apartment and watching Netflix, my stories will have all of my attention until school starts up again in January lol. And, I remember promising all of you a Christmas gift in the form of this chapter...and so, Merry Christmas all of you wonderful people. Also, I have a surprise for you in the author's note at the end of the chapter.
I own nothing! Read and Review please!
…
The four friends stood facing the door, none of them really ready to take the first step and open it.
After a full night's rest, they flew over to the other ledge, Quill making two trips to carry Amy and Medli while Link floated down on his leaf. Now they just stood looking at the door. It reached all the way to the ceiling and had swirling patterns all over. It looked far too elegant for the Temple, especially since they knew that a monster lurked behind it.
"So…we should open it." Amy finally said.
"I really don't want to…" Medli whispered, barely loud enough for them to hear, "It's….It's like…"
"Like some force is holding you back?" Quill asked. Medli gasped and looked up at him, wondering how he could possibly know.
"Makar felt the same force in the Wind Temple. He ended up waiting outside for us while we faced the creature," Quill turned back towards the door, "We will not judge you if you wish to make the same decision."
Medli looked at the ground, "It doesn't feel right to let you all fight without me…but I don't think that…that I can go in."
"Don't worry Medli," Link said with a smile, "We get it! Besides…it's safer for you out here."
"He's right Medli," Amy spoke up, "You're safer out here. Don't worry about us."
The small girl didn't respond for a moment…then she nodded. She felt guilty leaving them to fight her battle for her, but she couldn't handle the force inside that room. Just standing by the door was hard enough.
"Are we ready then?" Quill asked.
Amy and Link shared a look before nodding. They opened the door.
…
The room was large, well-lit, and empty. It had many corners, each of them with a tall spiked pillar in them. A band of large spikes that matched the pillars lined the floor. Amy made a mental note to watch out for them.
"Where is she?" Quill asked, somewhat harshly, as they walked closer to the center of the room.
"She might be invisible, you said that Poes could do that." Amy said, looking up at the ceiling, hoping against hope that the creature was there.
"That's if she's a Poe," Link pointed out, "We don't really know what give Poes their power, so who knows what she is."
"Fair point," Quill agreed.
"So what do we do until we find her?" Amy asked, sheathing her sword since there was no immediate use for it.
Quill followed her example and put his arrow in his quiver, "We keep looking." He said bluntly.
And so they did. The three of them spread out and checked every part of the room they could reach, Quill flying up to check the ceiling just in case. Eventually though, they were forced to give up. There was no creature in the room.
Meeting back in the center of the room, Amy sighed in annoyance, "How are we supposed to kill her if she isn't here?"
"We don't," Quill said bluntly, "So we wait until she gets here."
"We can't do that; Medli's waiting for us outside!" Link protested.
"Not to mention the Doctor," Amy said, "Who knows how long Ganon will keep him alive?"
"We don't have any other plan though," Quill defended himself.
Link opened his mouth to protest, but quickly shut it. Quill was right. Without a monster to battle, there wasn't anything that they could do. He sighed, his shoulders slumping forward, "I'll go tell Medli."
Amy and Quill shared a look before nodding their agreement. With a resigned look on his face, Link walked out of the room.
As Link was walking to the door, Amy sat on the floor, leaning her face on her hand. Playing the waiting game was practically toying with the Doctor's life. She hated that and she hated this creature for doing it. If what Quill and Link said was true, than this Poe had already read her mind, and therefore knew all about the Doctor and what he was going through. For all they knew, that was why she was hiding. So Ganon could kill the Doctor.
It only made Amy start to hate this creature.
Quill however, took a different approach. Yes, he still hated this Poe, but he was just starting to realize how smart she was. Making them wait. Lulling them into a false sense of security by doing so, so that they would be unprepared. Toying with their emotions and their minds. Putting them in different areas of the Temple. All of it was a calculated move to help her.
And it was as he realized this, the door close behind Link…and then locked itself. He didn't have time to yell out a warning.
"Um…please tell me that you two did that?" came his muffled voice from the other side.
Amy glanced up at Quill and then got to her feet as soon as she could, drawing her sword at the same time. They both raced towards the door, pounding on it with all their strength, screaming Link's name. As if that could do anything. They were locked in and he was locked out. There was nothing they could do about it.
"Hee Hee Hee!" A voice chattered behind them, "Well lookie who I got here. Two little…lovebirds." The voice laughed even more at her own horrible pun.
Slowly, they turned around to face her. If what they were expecting was a witch or a regular Poe, or even someone their own size, they were greatly disappointed. The creature that they saw was far more horrible than they had imagined.
It was at least a quarter of the room in size alone, a fat stomach making up most of the creature by itself. A short head with a mask on it gave its face an ugly appearance, while also making it look like it didn't have a neck. In contrast, the monster had short legs and arms, one of which held a lantern. Just like in the last Temple, as soon as they laid eyes on it, they knew that this creature was named Jalhalla.
"Why did you lock Link out?!" Amy yelled, facing her with no fear.
"He would only have gotten in my way," Jalhalla chuckled, "Besides, I can't read his mind. You two are far more interesting. At least, you are without little old Rory."
Quill drew an arrow and shot it at her in a heartbeat, anger evident on his face. However, the arrow simply passed right through Jalhalla's head.
'Who the heck is Rory?' Amy wondered yet again, 'And why does Quill seem angry about it?'
"You mean to say that he hasn't told you yet, dear?" Jalhalla said to Amy, easily reading her mind, "What a naughty boy Quill! I thought you loved her?"
Amy's eyes widened. LOVE? Quill loved her? When did that happen?!
"Now Amy, you see, Rory is someone from Earth. Someone you happened to be-"
"Don't listen to her Amy," Quill said, cutting her off and not looking away from floating Poe Queen, "She's just messing with our minds. Let's kill her and get this over with."
Amy stared at him for a moment, then nodded without a word and turned back to Jalhalla, her sword raised and ready for anything.
Jalhalla glared at them, "You're no fun. Fine, let's get on with the killing then, shall we?"
Without another thought, Jalhalla started her attack. The room went red, with about three pillars of lights around it, shining through cracks in the ceiling, and she began throwing fireballs at them from her lantern.
Amy and Quill jumped to the side, running around the room to avoid them. Jalhalla grumbled in annoyance and started chasing them, throwing more and more fireballs. One nearly decapitated Amy while another barely scraped by Quill.
"How are we supposed to fight her when are weapons go right through her?!" Amy yelled as they ran.
"I don't know!" Quill yelled back, "Let me think!"
The two of them ran some more while dodging the fire. Quickly, they darted through a beam of light to avoid a fireball and Jalhalla, not thinking about it, followed after them.
A painful screech filled the room and the two friends turned around in shock to see what was happening. Jalhalla was stuck in the beam of light, it coursing through her body and causing torturous pain. Before they knew what was happening, she had collapsed on the ground, the room no longer red.
"Light!" Amy shouted, suddenly remembering, "Medli and Link said it killed them!"
Quill raised his bow, pointed at Jalhalla, "Then why isn't she dead?"
Amy ran towards her, "Don't care. She's unconscious, means she's wide open for an attack." As soon as she reached her, Amy started swinging her sword at her body. Sadly, even though Jalhalla had just had light coursing through her and now had a corporeal body, the sword did no harm, simply bouncing off of Jalhalla like it was nothing.
"Hmm…" Jalhalla grumbled, the sword strikes rousing her. She opened her eyes and saw Amy staring at her in shock. Quickly realizing what she had been trying to do, Jalhalla roared and got back up, the room going red again. She, now out of the beam of light, went back on the attack, now careful to avoid the beams of light.
Amy and Quill ran around, dodging the fireballs once again.
"Quill! Distract her!" Amy yelled, running off in a different direction. Quill didn't even question it, he turned right around and yelled out, "Hey, you think that fire will hurt us?! Try catching me now!" before opening his wings and flying around the room. Luckily, Jalhalla took the bait and went after him with an angry growl.
Amy dashed off to one of the beams of light, reaching into her pouch and hoping against hope that she had packed it. After rummaging through her items, she found what she needed. Her compact. Opening it, she saw that not a lot of makeup was left, but the mirror was in perfect shape. It was small but hopefully it would work.
She glanced up and saw the two of them circling the room, about halfway up. She started to angle the mirror. It took some practice, but eventually she reflected the light off the mirror and onto Jalhalla. She screamed once again, falling from her spot in the air down to the ground. She tried running away from wherever the beam of light was, but Amy kept it trained on her. Quill flew down to meet her, smiling slightly at what she was doing. After a minute, Jalhalla was once again unconscious. Amy left the light on for just a moment longer, just in case, before they ran over to her.
"What are we supposed to do now?" Quill asked, looking at their enemy.
Amy looked around the room, "There has to be something we can do."
Quill joined her search. After a minute he said, "I wish we could just push her into those pillars. I'm sure they would do far more damage than our weapons."
"Me too…" Amy agreed, looking at Jalhalla since she couldn't find anything in the room that might help them. Then, a thought occurred to her, "Wait…we can do that!"
Quill raised an eyebrow at her, "How are we supposed to do that?"
Amy smirked and held up her wrists, jingling her bracelets, "If I can move a stone head with these stupid things, I'm sure I can roll old fatso over here."
Without another word, she walked up to Jalhalla, who hadn't stirred yet. She reached down and got the best grip she could, grunting at the effort. Then, she pushed the Poe, using all of her strength, the power bracelets helping her. Within moments, Jalhalla had woken up to see herself about to hit a pillar of spikes, it too late to do anything. She crashed into it with a scream. What happened next, shocked the two friends. She exploded, and a bundle of Poes rained down upon the room, each as surprised as the next that they weren't stuck as Jalhalla anymore.
Slowly, they turned to Quill and Amy, all with the same look of fear on their face. Amy and Quill also shared a look, an unspoken agreement going between them. Then, Quill raised his bow, an arrow knocked. Amy raised her mirror into the light.
The next part happened very quickly. The Poes tried to reach Jalhalla's mask, which was in the center of the room. Quill picked them off one by one with his arrows, his aim dead on, and taking great pleasure in finally killing this person who had brought so much pain to him. Amy got the rest with reflecting light off of her mirror. Once, she had to use her sword to kill a Poe who came to close, this one thinking that he should kill them before they killed him. It was over within minutes.
The mask, turned to look around the room, hoping against hope that there was still at least one Poe left to power it. Sadly, there was not as Quill had killed the last one. Amy, still without one word, raised her mirror once again. One shot of light, even one that small, was enough to kill the mask. It exploded in purple smoke and landed on the floor as a Heart Container.
The two friends walked towards it, watching as the Triforce on the ground in the center of the room started to glow. Vaguely, they heard the door unlock.
Finally, Amy said, "Rory is someone I forgot, isn't he? Jalhalla messed with my mind and made me forget him."
Quill turned to her in shock, "H-How did you..."
"Figure it out?" she raised her eyebrow, "Wasn't that hard. Jalhalla was kind of obvious with her hints earlier." She turned back to the Heart Container.
"I don't know who he was, or what he was to me. I don't know if he was a brother, a friend, or even my own husband. I don't know if I lived with him, if he traveled with the Doctor and I, or if he even saved my life. He obviously meant a lot to me, but I just don't remember. All I know, is that I didn't forget him until I came to this Temple. Which means that I remembered him when we….back at Dragon Roost. I knew everything about him then, and yet I still chose to kiss you Quill. Even knowing who Rory was, I chose you over him and I'd do it again in a heartbeat." She turned to Quill, tears in her eyes, "And knowing that, I don't know why Jalhalla thought that making me forget him was torture. At most, it got rid of a tiny bit of guilt that I might have had, guilt that probably came from the thought of telling him that I had you. Not over my decision. I-"
"Amy," Quill said, cutting her off, "You don't have to-"
"Shut up Quill." She cut him off this time, "I'm not going to go on forever about this. I just have one more thing to say. I know that whoever this Rory guy is, ever since I forgot him. Throughout this entire Temple actually, it's been getting to you. You know who Rory is and what he meant to me. And that has been tearing you up Quill, any idiot can see that. So, I just want to tell you that…I don't care. I don't remember him now and I'm ok with that. I'm happy actually. This makes things a lot simpler. So stop caring about Rory, Quill. He's not anyone's problem right now, because…I'm happy that I forgot him."
Quill's eyes widened as he stared down at Amy who had tears threatening to spill over her own eyes. Of all of the things that she could have said…this was the last one that he expected. He opened his mouth to respond, but the door opened and grabbed their attention. Link ran into the room, sword in hand, Medli following after him.
"Where is it?!" Link yelled, looking around for the monster.
Amy bust up laughing, "Dead kid. Now put that down before you poke your eye out."
"Huh?" Link looked up in confusion at her and then his eyes landed on the Heart Container, "You two killed it!"
Amy and Quill nodded, matching smiles on their faces.
"Was it hard?" He asked, sheathing his sword.
"Not once you figure out the trick." Amy said.
"What was the trick?" Medli asked.
"That's for us to know and you to find out." Amy smirked as Link groaned, "Now, don't you two have something to do?"
Link looked up as he remembered why they had come there. Quickly he drew his sword again and Medli got her harp ready. They put the Master Sword in the center of the Triforce and started their song, Quill and Amy backing up and watching from a distance. This time, Amy could actually watch the process, having been too worried about Quill in the last Temple to pay attention.
Link started off conducting Medli who soon played a beautiful piece of music. The notes flowed together and Amy recognized the song they played to get into the Temple. They continued playing and soon, specks of power started to get sucked into the Master Sword, causing it to glow. As they continued to play, a shadowy figure appeared between the two. She was taller than either of them with a gold headpiece and she carried the same harp that Medli did. The strangest part about her was that she looked…well…part fish. A long fin was in place of her hair and more fins hung down from her arms, much like the Rito's wings did.
'This must be Laruto.' Amy thought as she watched in wonder.
The song continued on until the power stopped being absorbed by the Master Sword and Laruto faded away. Medli and Link brought their composition to a close and the four of them stared at the sword, which had seemed to start pulsing with its new power, as if begging to be drawn. Slowly, Link walked forward towards it, gently reaching his hands out until they came in contact with the hilt. He took a breath, wrapping his hands around the sword, and yanking up, drawing it from where it stood in the ground. Link lifted it up, staring at the blade in wonder when he was suddenly pushed back, the hilt opening up from the power and changing the swords design and the metal of the blade glowing an almost pure white.
"It's…It's beautiful…" Medli murmured, all of them taking a moment to stare at the blade.
"It is…" Quill agreed.
"We did it," Amy chuckled, "We finally did it…"
She turned to look at her friends, the others doing the same, "We can go save the Doctor now! We can stop Ganon!"
Smiles broke out on their faces as that realization sunk in.
…
The sun shone down the three of them as the portal set them outside the entrance of the Temple. Amy, Quill, and Link all shared a look. Medli had stayed behind to keep power going into the Master Sword.
"So…back to the Forbidden Fortress?" Amy asked with a raised eyebrow.
Link shook his head, "We need to stop at Windfall first, get some stuff. Then we can go."
"Then let's go," Quill said, readjusting the quiver on his back before they turned to where they left Red…before they all stopped in their tracks.
"Is that…" Link started asking but his voice fell silent.
Amy stared in shock, her own voice caught in her throat. She blinked, a tear sliding down her cheek before she took off running. She almost slipped on the sand as she got closer, but Amy made it.
She made it to the Doctor and wrapped him in the biggest hug she had given anyone.
"Doctor!" she cried, tears running down her face.
"Amy!" he yelled back, somewhat confused. Nearby, someone laughed.
Amy didn't care. The Doctor, her Doctor, her Raggedy Man, was back!
"Amy, you're choking him!" Link yelled, laughing, as he and Quill ran up to them as well.
"I don't care!" she pulled away, smiling, "It means he's alive! You're alive, you stupid alien!" she directed the last part towards the Doctor, shoving his arm.
"And you have us to thank!" someone else yelled. A woman with red hair appeared next to them, throwing her arm around the Doctor with a smile on her face.
"Who the bloody heck are you?!" Amy yelled, jumping back in surprise, almost knocking Quill over.
The woman saluted with her other hand, "Nabooru, Sage of Spirit, old friend of the Doctor here. At your service."
"Sage of Spirit?" Quill asked.
She nodded and the Doctor smiled his goofy grin. Then, Nabooru pointed behind her and they were greeted with the sight of more people they didn't know, all surrounding Red.
"Other Sages from the old legends I presume?" Quill asked them, to which they nodded with a smile on their faces.
"I'm lost. Confused and lost." Link said, staring blankly at all of them.
"Me too!" the Doctor said, "I get lost plenty of times. There was this time I tried to go to Florida in 2077. Oh, it's marvelous there; I'll take you someday Amy. Anyway, I tried to go there, ended up on Mars in the middle of the war between the Ice Warriors. Next thing I know, they're chasing me and I end up in the 1920's! After that I went and-"
Amy cleared her throat, "Doctor, not time or place."
"Huh?" he looked at all of them, "Oh, right. Hyrule, Ganon, Sages." He clapped his hands, rubbing them together, "Let's get going then!"
A deep laugh interrupted him and they turned towards Red, "You can't jump ahead of us Doctor. We have to explain everything first."
"Ugh," he groaned, "Fine, let's get the boring stuff out of the way."
Amy rolled her eyes, "Doctor, just tell us how you got away from Ganon."
He smiled and pointed to all of the Sages. When the three of them gave them blank looks though, he started to explain everything.
"Then, we just hiked up a mountain that I knew was a Temple at the top and we saw Red!" he finished.
"And now you're gathering Triforce pieces?" Link asked.
He nodded, "Got all but one."
"What about you?" the man named as Rauru asked, "I take it you haven't been doing nothing?"
"We've gotten power back into the Master Sword," Quill said, "Reawakened the Sage of Wind and Earth."
"Good!" Darunia humphed, "We stand a better chance with a power like that."
"So, what do we do now though?" Amy asked, "I mean, we have the Master Sword, the Triforce, whatever the heck that is, and we know where Ganon is. But, if you guys are right and he isn't at the Forbidden Fortress and he is at Hyrule Castle then…well, Tetra's there. ALONE. We have to go help her, but it's not like we have the TARDIS to take us."
"We don't have the Triforce," Saria said, "We have most of the Triforce of Courage. When we get the last piece, we can open the portal and it will take us to Ganon."
"Why can't you guys just use your Sage powers or whatever to get us to Ganon?"
The Sages shared a look. Finally, Rauru spoke up, "We were able to save the Doctor because Ganon didn't know we were here. Now that the Doctor isn't in his dungeon, he's added more defenses. The only way in is with the power of the Triforce."
"Then let's get the last piece," Amy said.
"Not that simple," Impa said, folding her arms, "The Doctor decided to hide the last piece….on the Ghost Ship. It only appears once a month on this Sea, at the full moon."
"It was extra protection…" the Doctor murmured, defending himself.
"The full moon won't appear for another three weeks," Quill said, "What are we to do until then?"
No one said a word for a moment; they just looked at each other. Finally, the Doctor shrugged, "Vacation?"
…
