Mending A Broken Heart
Chapter 25
Rin screamed as Kagome began to fall. Shippo transformed at the last moment as caught his mother as she fell to the ground.
"Why did she faint?" Rin questioned.
"Most likely from the difference in her appearance." Shippo answered as he slowly lowered Kagome to the ground and changed back to his kit form.
"But she is so beautiful!" Rin exclaimed. Shippo just shrugged his shoulders "Is there anything we can do for her?"
"Just wait for her to wake up again. She shouldn't be unconscious long." Shippo said, settling down on to the ground beside Kagome. Rin just sighed and joined him.
Sesshomaru felt his mate's distress and pain, but knew she was safe and had to ignore it until the half demon in front of him was dead and buried.
"Sesshomaru, are you just going to stand there or are you going to fight?" Inuyasha shouted at him, annoyed as he fought against another round of Naraku's minions. Sesshomaru mentally shook his head and began to fight again. Luckily, Kagome's pain finally subsided and he was about to concentrate fully on the battle.
Kagome groaned a few minutes later and slowly sat up. Rin suddenly threw herself against her mother and cried. Stunned, Kagome was still for a moment before wrapping her arms around the sobbing girl.
"Rin, are you all right? What is wrong?"
"I was so scared for you, Mama. First, you were in terrible pain and then you fainted." Rin sobbed against her chest. Kagome felt the terrible need to chuckle at the girl's upset, but didn't.
"Rin, I am sorry if I worried you. I don't really know what happened to me either. My only guess is my slow transformation was accelerated by your father changing into his true demon form."
"But you are all right now?" Rin insisted.
"Yes, Rin, I feel fine now." Kagome kissed Rin's forehead in reassurance and smiled at Shippo as she set Rin on her feet. "Shall we see what possible new powers I have?" She suggested to get the children's minds off of their worries. Both of the children nodded eagerly. Kagome was pretty excited at the prospect of testing her new powers. "Now, you both must remember to stand back. I do not wish to hurt you as I am testing things." Rin and Shippo both nodded in agreement and moved back several paces from Kagome.
Kagome closed her eyes and began to concentrate on the new powers flowing through her body. She could feel her connection with Sesshomaru much more clearly and easily, but she brushed that aside for the moment to focus on other things. She could still feel her miko powers strongly, which surprised her because she had turned into a demon. Other powers were swimming along side her miko powersand they were just as strong as her miko powers. As she continued to concentrate on her new powers, a purple whip began to form.from her new claws. Shippo and Ringasped in amazement as Kagome slowly began to move ut around, testing it out.
"It is just like Lord Sesshomaru's!" Rin exclaimed. Shippo nodded in agreement. Kagome flicked her whip through the air and cut a tree limb right in half. She gasped in surprise and the children cheered.
"Try something else, Mama!" Shippo encouraged.
"What shall I try next?" Kagome inquired.
"Try flying. Lord Sesshomaru has his flying cloud under his feet." Rin answered first. Kagome felt alarmed for a moment. She wasn't big on heights.
"Anything else perhaps?" Kagome asked with hope.
"How about the full dog form?" Shippo suggested.
"I am afraid of what that would do to the pup. I believe that will have to wait until I consult with Sesshomaru as well with the ball of light. I suppose I will try the cloud." Kagome answered. She closed her eyes again and gasped as she felt pain shoit through her. Sesshomaru was hurt.
"Mama, are you all right?" Rin asked in alarm as Kagome doubled over in pain.
"Yes, Rin, but I have to get to yourfather. He is in trouble and needs my help. Take Ah-Un and go some place safe until one of us comes for you."
"But Mama..." Shippo started to interject.
"Shippo, do not argue with me on this! Go!" Shippo briefly scowled at Kagome, but he obeyed and they were soon flying away.
Kagome watched them disappear and without thinking, formed into a ball of light and went to help her mate.
Sesshomaru growled as he looked around the battlefield. His side was burning from the blow he took directly from Naraku. He had been saving his idiot brother. Naraku had hit Sesshomaru with a lightning bolt. It had taken everything to keep himself from roaring due to the pain. He continued to fight the endless horde of demons as Inuyasha and his friends fought Naraku and his minions.
When Naraku finally seemed to be weakening a bit, Sesshomaru felt like falling over from exhaustion when a pink light came flying through the air and hit Naraku's chest. Sesshomaru looked towards the source of the shot and growled. He had hoped it would had been Inuyasha's dead mate, but Kagome was standing there with her bow drawn. He was furious at his mate for disobeying his orders, but he couldn't help but be amazed at how beautiful she looked transformed.
"Why, Kagome, how nice of you to join us. How is the pup?" Naraku called out cheerfully. Sesshomaru growled a warning at the half demon, but Naraku just ignored him. "I am so happy to see you, my beautiful mate." Naraku continued, not realizing that Sesshomaru was slowly approaching him from behind.
"I am not your mate!" Kagome exclaimed as she notched another arrow and shot it into Naraku's heart. The half demon screamed in agony as the arrow hit his heart. Kagome immediately called for the Sacred Jewel and since Naraku was in too much pain to think about protecting it, it went straight to her. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru both launched at Naraku, finishing him off. As soon as his heart stopped beating, the horde of demons immediately began to disappear or run away. Naraku's body fell into pieces that quickly turned to dust.
Kagome pieced the Sacred Jewel back together and quickly went to her mate's side. Sesshomaru had transformed back into his humanoid form and had fallen to his knees with blood flowing down his side.
