Starling: Clary actually knows she isn't half demon. Maureen doesn't, and Clary didn't want to risk Camille finding out. Also, Camille never learned the full story with Tessa Gray. Her and Magnus broke up before they found out all the details.

And about Clary's weakness, she was, at first, going to let it happen because she didn't know Maureen was alone, and she wanted to save Jonathan, even if it meant sacrificing herself. When she actually did try to fight, she had just gotten a concussion, so she was a little disoriented, and not at full strength.

Also, about the spelling errors, really embarrassing. I'm working on getting a beta.

Sorry about that :p

I'm really glad you guys like this story! Enjoy this chapter :)

"Time to die," said Maureen.

Clary could feel Maureen's cold hand gripping her arm, and there was pain on her head, face, back, leg and shoulder. She could feel blood on her back, hands and head.

Maureen was gripping her hair, holding Clary's head up.

There were tears in Clary's eyes- mostly from pain, but partially from fear. She looked at Jonathan, then quickly closed her eyes- not wanting to see the heartbreaking look on his face.

"Clary..." His voice was soft, quiet. He'd stopped struggling and was simply looking at her now.

Clary felt more tears in her eyes. Jonathan had always been the best brother. He'd protected her, loved her, shown her how to defend herself. He'd even loved her now that he thought she was a warlock- and she would die with him thinking so. Maybe Jace could tell him the truth...

Jace. Clary had avoided Jace for the last day, not being able to face him with what she was doing- leaving Sebastian to die. She now regretted it more than anything in her life. The last words she'd have ever said to him were sending him away. Jace, she thought, Jace, I love you and I'm sorry.

Maureen's fangs brushed the skin on her neck- too lightly to pierce it. She felt Maureen jerk her head and gasp.

There was a loud crash sound- shattering wood? Maureen released Clary and she fell to the ground. There was a loud snarl and Maureen screamed. The sound was followed by ripping, and someone retching.

"Clary!" Jonathan's voice came to her ears.

Clary's eyes were still shut. She felt numbing in her hands and feet.

"Is she okay?" Asked a female voice. It sounded familiar...

Clary was turned from her side onto her back. She sucked in a breath at the pain. She opened her eyes to see two familiar faces.

"Maia?" Her voice was weak, and sounded like she'd been crying. "Simon?"

Maia looked down at her with concern. "Why is it whenever you see us, you're in danger?"

"It's drawn to me..." It was proving surprisingly hard to speak. Her voice was quiet. "I'm numb."

Simon came closer. "Maia, she's losing a ton of blood."

Maia looked ahead of her. "Are you guys alright?"

"We're fine," said Jonathan. "Hello, Simon."

"Hey."

"Clary, is Simon someone you can trust?" Asked Jonathan.

Clary slowly turned her head to Jonathan.

"Clary, you have to answer me. Can you trust Simon?"

"Yes," her voice was a murmur.

Jonathan looked away from her and up at someone over her. "Simon, I need you to take Clary to the Institute. It's across the street. You can't enter because you're a vampire, but ring the doorbell. She needs an iratze, now. Maia, can you get a knife to cut us loose?"

Clary felt arms go under her legs and back and lift her. They felt cool to lean on- like they didn't generate heat.

Clary saw Maia hold up her hands. "No need," her hands turned into wolf claws and Clary gasped. Maia used her Claws to cut the separate knots that bound Sebastian and her brother.

Simon carried her from the room, and down a flight of stairs.

Clary's eyes began to droop.

Simon shook her. "Clary, you have to stay awake!"

There was a second flight down, then out a door into the cold night air.

Clary's eyes began to close again.

Simon shook her again. "Almost there. Stay with me." Clary saw they'd gone passed the gates. Simon went up to the door and rang the doorbell. "Come on, come on."

Clary's eyes shut and wouldn't reopen. She was engulfed in blackness.

"Time to die," said Maureen.

Jonathan looked at his sister's face- streaked with tears, dust and blood. She looked at him briefly, then squeezed her eyes shut.

This is it, Jonathan thought, Clary is going to die. The emotions inside him mixed and caused physical pain. His sister was going to die- the person who meant most to him in the world, and she would die right in front of him- just out of his reach. He was frozen. All he could do was watch.

Maureen put her fangs to Clary's neck, then jerked her head up and gasped. She was looking at the door.

The door flew inwards, wooden splinters flying as it shattered. A wolf leapt in and snarled.

Maureen dropped Clary, stood up and ran for the window.

The wolf was too fast. His front paws hit Maureen and knocked her to the floor.

She screamed as the wolf's teeth sunk into her skin and began mauling her.

Sebastian moved his head to the outer side and retched.

Jonathan looked back at Clary. She was laying on her side- facing them- unconscious. "Clary!" Jonathan was renewed with a hope that his sister would survive.

A girl and a boy- who Sebastian hadn't noticed before- walked up to Clary. They knelt by her side.

"Is she okay?" Asked the girl. She rolled Clary onto her back.

Clary's eyes opened. "Maia? Simon?"

Jonathan recognized Simon then.

"Why is it whenever you see us, you're in danger?" Asked Maia.

"It's drawn to me..." Clary's voice was quiet. "I'm numb."

Simon got closer to Clary. "Maia, she's losing a ton of blood."

Maia looked at Jonathan. "Are you guys alright?"

"We're fine," he said. "Hello, Simon."

"Hey."

"Clary, is Simon someone you can trust?" He asked his sister.

Clary slowly turned her head toward him.

"Clary, you have to answer me. Can you trust Simon?"

"Yes," her voice was a murmur.

Jonathan looked away from her and up to Simon. "Simon, I need you to take Clary to the Institute. It's across the street. You can't enter because you're a vampire, but ring the doorbell. She needs an iratze, now. Maia, can you get a knife to cut us loose?"

Simon lifted Clary off the ground.

Maia held up her hands. "No need," her hands turned into wolf claws. Maia used her Claws to cut the separate knots that bound Sebastian and himself.

Simon left the room with Clary in his arms then.

It took about a minute for Maia to get Jonathan and Sebastian free.

Jonathan got to his feet and looked over at a boy leaning against the wall. He stood next to a gruesome thing that once was Maureen.

Jonathan looked at them . "Thank you," He ran out of the room and down the flights of stairs- not looking to see in Sebastian was behind him.

He ran out into the cool night air.

He ran up to the Institute's door- where Simon stood with Clary.

Simon looked at him. "She passed out."

Jonathan took Clary from his arms. He looked at Simon. "Thank you," then Sebastian opened the Institute's door and ran inside.

The elevator doors opened just as they reached them, Alec standing inside. His eyes widened as they got into the elevator. "Oh my god, what in-"

"Alec, we'll explain later," said Jonathan. "This damn thing is so slow!"

The door opened and he speed walked toward the infirmary. "Sebastian, can you get everyone?"

He nodded and walked off.

Jonathan walked into the infirmary and set Clary on a bed. "Do you have a stele?"

Alec pulled out his stele and began drawing an iratze on Clary's arm. "We're in this room way too much," he finished the iratze and Clary's cuts began healing.

Jace was suddenly there and came to the side of the bed and looked at Clary in horror. "What happened?!"

Clary's cuts finished healing, but she was still covered in blood.

"I'll explain later," said Jonathan. "First, find out if Clary needs a blood transplant. She lost a lot of blood."

Jace sucked in a breath and touched her blood covered hand.

Maryse came up and touched her two fingers to her neck. "She'll be fine," she said.

"What's going on?" Isabelle's voice came from the front of the room. "Did Sebastian really get that drunk?"

Jonathan didn't look up from Clary. "Isabelle, it's Clary."

"What?" Isabelle's tone turned from one of joking to one of worry. She ran over and joined the crowd. "Oh my god."

"She wasn't supposed to leave the Institute," said Jace angrily.

"Someone decided to play dirty," said Sebastian darkly.

"What happened?" Asked Maryse.

"I'll explain later. I think Clary may have been bitten by a vampire. Do you have holy water?"

"I'll get it," said Alec, running off.

Clary opened her eyes. She was surrounded by familiar faces. Was this what death felt like? Clary remembered Simon and Maia. I'm not dead, she thought.

Her eyes found Jace's face and stayed there. "Jace."

He smiled at her. "Welcome back."

Clary felt a hand on her's and glanced down at it. It was Jace's. She closed her fingers.

"You feeling alright?" Asked Jonathan.

Clary nodded. "I feel great, actually," Clary sat up slowly.

"Here," Maryse handed her a tall glass. "It's holy water."

Clary frowned. "I don't think she actually bit me."

"Better safe than sorry," said Jonathan.

Clary took the glass and gulped it down. She felt no different.

"So," said Isabelle. "Can you tell us what happened now?"

"Okay," said Jonathan.

"I'll start," said Sebastian.

The three explained the whole story- taking turns switching perspectives.

Jonathan knocked on Clary's door.

"Come in."

Jonathan opened the door. "Hey."

Clary sat on her bed in her shorts and tank top with her sketchbook- as if nothing had ever happened. She smiled at him. "Hey."

Jonathan sat at the foot of her bed. "Crazy day."

Clary nodded. "Is it sad that I'm sort of used to it?"

Jonathan gave her a sad smile. "No one should have to go through that on a regular basis."

Clary set down her sketchbook.

"So," Jonathan changed the subject. "Jace and I have come to an agreement."

Clary eyes him suspiciously. "What is it?"

Jonathan smirked. "That neither of us are going to punch him. Maureen was his punishment."

Clary frowned, then she realized what he was talking about. "Ah. I guess Jace told you then?"

Jonathan nodded.

"It feels like it was much longer ago than it really was."

"Yeah."

Clary was silent for a second, staring at something in the distance.

"Hey, Clary?"

She looked back up at him. "Yes?"

"When... When Maureen almost-" He had a hard time with the words. The memories were in his head, surfacing. Clary's face, his fear, his hatred for the vampire who'd hurt his baby sister.

Clary shook her head. "I'm sorry."

He looked at her in shock. "You're sorry?"

"Yes. I'm sorry that I got everyone dragged into my mess."

"Clary," Jonathan lay his hand over hers. "You don't have to apologize for anything. It isn't your fault you have a gift."

"Oh, by the way, I'm not a warlock," she said casually.

Jonathan frowned, confused. "Wait, what?"

"The dreams. One of Camille's men saw me open a portal, so they took me again. Camille came to the conclusion that I'm part warlock- and that meant she didn't need me to do anything, so I rolled with it. I'm one hundred percent your sister," she smiled.

"Oh," Jonathan was surprised. "Seriously?"

Clary laughed and nodded.

Clary's phone started ringing. She looked at it.

"Who's calling you this late?" He asked.

Clary shrugged and picked it up off her nightstand. "It says 'number blocked'."

"Answer it. It could be our parents- maybe they got a phone."

Clary pressed a button and put it to her ear. "Hello?" Clary's smile dropped and she tensed everywhere. "Camille?" Her voice was full of fear.

Jonathan's eyes widened. She took the phone from her and put it to his ear.

"You're good with voices, Clarissa," said a woman's voice over the phone.

"Camille Belcourt?" Jonathan kept his voice hard and even.

"Ah, I see Clarissa wasn't alone, then. Who am I speaking with?"

"This is Jonathan Morgenstern."

"Clarissa's brother. Of course. I just called to apologize on behalf of Maureen Brown. I told her to leave your sister alone, but she disobeyed me."

"You're lying."

"Wouldn't you like that? No, I'm not. Believe it or not, I have no more interest in your sister. She'd brought us nothing but trouble, and isn't worth it."

"How did you get this number?"

"I have my sources. Well, pass the message on to your sister. Goodbye."

"Wait-" Camille hung up.

I know a lot of you have been asking me to kill Maureen. I had already written this chapter when you all met her, honestly. Well, there you have it! Maureen is officially dead.

My next chapter will be posted Sunday. I only posted today because I post on holidays :) Happy Thanksgiving!
