After leaving Gwaine behind the three of them headed towards the physician's tower with Emrys in the lead, her eyes and heart completely focused on
the path to Leon never minding the two royals following behind her. She had so many questions for her uncle floating around inside her head about her
magic and Leon's health it felt like a windstorm behind her eyes. Not even waiting until she reached the door her magic forcefully pushed it open
ahead of her as she entered the room and fell to her knees immediately beside the cot where her betrothed rested. Her dark blue gaze fell on his
abdominal area taking notice of the large dressing and the whiteness of it allowing her to finally relax and breathe. Since the world focused down to the
rise and fall of Leon's chest and his slow deep breaths she didn't even react to any of the voices in until the sharp sting across her cheek courtesy of
one Hunnith Wylt brought deep blue eyes ringed in gold to meet the sky blue of her one time mother.
" Emrys my lady, you must snap out of it so we can explain things, are you back with us?"
"Yes sorry what were you saying?"
Looking up into the eyebrow of doom she felt like the 17 year old foolish boy she used to be, bowing her head to hid her blush she quietly mumbled her
apologizes and turned her focus to the room around her and the people it it.
"Yes could you please repeat yourself now that Emrys is with us how is he doing?"
"As I said before sire I expect a full recovery my sister and I managed to control the blood loss while stitching the wound. It was very deep and I will
need to reopen the wound daily to flush it and in time remove the internal stitching to prevent infection and sepsis but he should be up and walking in 2
weeks time, shorter if I accelerate his healing with magic which after 30 years of non use it not my strongest skill."
Gwen decided to ask the question Emrys and Arthur were both wondering if just to get rid of the uncomfortable feeling of sharing the same space with
the mage, the sooner she had the answer the sooner she could leave.
"Gaius? how did your magic succeed where our court mage failed? Was it due to an emotional response she couldn't control?"
"That is a very clever question my queen."
The elderly physician answered eyes flashed with pity, it appeared Gwen was more then a little threatened by Merlin why else would she try to shift
blame? giving his head a small shake he continued.
"No it was no fault on Emrys her magic was prevented from reaching Sir Leon where as mine is not, I am the only being on earth who is able to use
magic on him."
"How is that possible?"
"It a long story sire if you sit I will tell you of the time before the purge..."
Seeing her chance to leave now that she knew her childhood friend would recover Gwen decided to bait her husband. She made her way to the door
head held high, eyes forward, every inch a queen.
"Sorry Gaius but someone needs to run this kingdom. I must take my leave I will be by to check on him before I retire, good day!"
Arthur could only shake his head at the wooden door his wife just slammed shut, he had a lot of groveling to do in the near future. Walking over to said
door and lowering the boards to lock it just as he removed his hands the door started to glow a gassy blue he watched as the wood swelled and flexed
filling all cracks and holes to prevent sound from travelling, sometimes he found it frightening just how well Merlin knew his needs.
"Well Gaius now you can speak at will why could you heal Leon and Merlin could not?"
"Well years before you were born when magic was free I was just hired as royal physician when Leon's father summoned me to his villa. His wife was in
labor with his first and only son they had been trying for a child for many years and her pregnancy was very high risk the labour took almost two days I
felt I was going to lose the Lady and the babe but both made it through. There were compilations Leon was born weak and his heart was not fully
developed I unfortunately told his father he would not live a week. The man despite my words tracked down every druid in the city trying to find a healer
for his son, none could help. In my guilt I asked my betrothed Alice if she knew of anyway to save the child and a few hours later she ran into our bed
chamber, grabbed my hand and dragged be back to Leon where she convinced all three nobles to travel with her to a place to save the babe, of course
the agreed and off the five of us went into the woods west of the city."
A small gasp from the left broke the tale and all eyes fell on Merlin/Emrys prompting an explanation.
"Sorry, your saying Alice took Leon to the lake of Avalon!? but that would be useless mortals can't even see it yet gain access I don't understand what it
has to do with your story uncle if Leon was part of Avalon I would know."
"Well child, if you would not interrupt and keep silent I could finish my explanation! Your both correct and wrong we did travel the the lake. Alice was
one of the most talented well rounded strongest magic user I knew at the time it was like she had the ear of the goddess. When we reached the lake
she used rune magic to summon a fae and shortly after a small air sprite arrived and offered Alice a gift simply for being a friend of the weave. I
watched in awe as my love used her gift for Leon's benefit. Alice explained the situation to the fae pointing out loopholes and compilations and the
sprite offered a benediction which is where I came in. As royal physician I would be treating Leon personally for the rest of one of our lives so me being
able to heal him was a loophole. So on the sprite instructions I took Leon from his mother and walked into the lake of Avalon until I was chest deep
with the baby floating in my arms then the sprite started casting the blessing making it impossible for Leon to die unless it was an immediately fatal
wound or old age it also kept any magic from touching him dark or light and since I was the one holding him we were linked so only I could cast magic
on him in order to not only hide his near immortality but prevent his suffering. As you noticed he can still be injured and still feel pain once complete the
sprite kissed Leon's head and vanished to this day the benediction still holds. Leon will live a long and healthy life if he stays out of trouble. He is
unable to die from blood loss his soul is for the most part bound to his body he will never die a slow death.
Uther was never informed of this Leons father felt it was safer if everyone assumed Leon was normal and I agreed not even Leon himself was told but
if you wish to inform him I will not stop any of you he is almost 40 years of age now I sure he can accept it."
"Thank you Gaius, I believe that's all we needed to know unless Merlin, do you have anything to ask before we go?"
"No no everything got answered and go? Go where you prat I am not leaving him!"
"Yes you are leaving him. We need to talk your mother can send for you when he wakes, now up you go and follow me."

Emrys left her uncle, mother and love behind as she blindly flowed Arthur down to the base of the tower where he grabbed a torch and continued down
into the craven where her kin was once chained. She looked around remembering her many conversations with the dragon bringing a piece of nostalgia
broken only by Arthur clearing his throat.
"Alright Merlin now lets talk, well I'm going to talk are your going to for once in you existence please listen. I don't know if you noticed earlier but Gwen is
quite angry at us both more so at you. You need to know why and help fix it I can have the two of you at odds like this."
"Arthur you prat! I may be floaty but I'm not stupid Gwen has been mad at me since day one. She feel threatened by my looks, my magic, my authority,
my nobility, and my connection to you none of which she has to be, but short of telling her everything that won't change."
"We have to find another way Merlin this kingdom will fall without Gwen by my side! I need her, I love her, I can't..."
"Calm yourself Arthur, you and Gwen will be fine I swear it. We can't tell her the truth so we have to find some way to keep me from being a threat."
"Well you could step back from running my kingdom and disregarding my laws and authority that might help a bit she is really unhappy about you doing
all that."
"I could but I won't. You know we are two sides of the coin your kingdom, laws and authority are mine as well. We are the same person split in half the
sun and moon, light and shadow, male and female, might and magic, one soul, one mind. For me to surrender all that would be breaking our destiny
that I have fought, suffered, killed and even died for! so no. I can't and won't step back, if only we could make her understand."
"I've tried Merlin more than once but it not sinking in she won't even try to see the bigger picture!"
"So we make her. I think I have an idea."

Gillie paced across his small room at the far end of the castle candles flickering in the dark room half melted from when he lit them hours ago. The
king needed to know about Dedreu and what he set in motion but telling him would point the finger right back to him. Yes he thought it was just bad
talking from the drink but the moment he found out about Sir Leon he knew that the sorcerer was responsible but he had no proof, it was his word
agents Dedreu's. What if the king doesn't believe him? The warlock let out a heavy sigh and fell to the floor as his legs finally gave out from under him
to tired to crawl to the bed he curled up on the cold with floor tomorrow he decided tomorrow he would do the right thing and tell the king the truth no
matter what.
