Magnus was a mess the next day at school. The visit with the social worker had really shaken him up. Karen had been able to calm him down enough to get a good night sleep, but once he woke up and remembered everything that had happened…it was just bad for Magnus. He had refused to eat anything for breakfast. Karen had let him go after getting a promise that he would eat a complete meal for lunch. She had, of course, managed to warn Isabelle and Jace Lightwood and ask them to make sure Magnus ate as promised at lunch. She had gotten positive answers so she had let Magnus go without breakfast.
Magnus, on the other hand, was not feeling too good for that. Not because he didn't eat. He actually wasn't hungry, for real. He was too nervous and too preoccupied with other things to worry about his health and eat. He was freaking out about what the social worker – Naomi – had said the night before. Magnus's father was looking for him. He wanted to meet with him so they could talk. Magnus's father wanted to get custody over him! Magnus was not thinking too kindly of the situation. While he had never met his father, he could never forgive him for leaving his mother and causing everything that went wrong in Magnus's childhood.
That man, who called himself Magnus's father, had abandoned Magnus's mother and left her with an abusive jerk. He had left Magnus's and his mother behind causing Magnus's mother to fall into depression. He hadn't even care about them. He never did since he never went looking for Magnus. It was more than sure that the man heard about Magnus's mother dying. And if he had, and knew about Magnus, why didn't he ever come looking for him? If he had ever cared, why didn't he come to find him earlier?
No. Magnus was not having it. Magnus refused to meet the man. But it seemed like he didn't have a say in it. Apparently, he was being forced to meet him and he couldn't have that. He was sure to break down just by looking at the man. Even though he had never seen him, Magnus was sure he would recognize him at first sight.
And so, he spent all morning worrying about the meeting. He didn't know when it was happening. He feared it would be happening that same week. For all he knew, Naomi could be waiting with his father when he arrived home. Not knowing when he was supposed to meet with his father was taking the best of him and he couldn't handle it.
On top of it all, the jocks at school seemed to sense that he was nervous or feeling bad about something and they had decided to take advantage of it. Magnus didn't know if they were always like that, but that day he felt their bullying worst than he had ever felt.
And so, when lunch break arrived, he decided to escape the school building and go towards the back garden of the school. It was always empty during this time and Magnus liked to go there when he needed to escape everything. He knew that Izzy and Jace were bound to notice his absence, maybe even Clary and Simon would notice. But he didn't care at the moment. He needed to get away from there before he had a breakdown.
And so he took out his phone and called the only person he knew could help him.
"Hello?" Came the voice on the other line
"Alec" Magnus sighed relieved
"Magnus?" Alec asked worried "Are you alright? Izzy just texted me telling me you're not at lunch…is everything ok?"
"I'm fine" Magnus waved away "Are you busy?"
"I just finished my morning classes in college" Alec frowned "Why? Magnus what is it?"
"Come pick me up" Magnus moaned "Please…just come get me"
"Magnus you're scaring me" Alec said more alert "Tell me what's wrong…I'm on my way"
"I just want to get out" Magnus sighed "Too much pressure"
"Why? What's wrong?" Alec asked and he could be heard opening the car door and climbing inside. "Talk to me"
"I rather talk when you're here" Magnus admitted "But I'm alright"
Magnus had to wait around 15 minutes until Alec finally arrived. Alec found him quickly and rushed to him. Alec looked pale and worried. Apparently, Magnus had scared him more than he had thought.
"Magnus" Alec breathed as he reached him, hugging him tightly "Are you alright? What happened?"
"Alec, I'm fine" Magnus insisted but hugged him back, not being able to resist the comfort.
"You're not" Alec said sternly "Talk to me"
"Can we leave first, please?" Magnus pleaded
"You have around 10 more minutes of break" Alec frowned
"I'll skip" Magnus said quickly
"Magnus-" Alec started
"Just, please?" Magnus sighed "I'll call Karen and make her call the school…just please take me out of here"
"Alright" Alec nodded "Alright…come on"
Alec directed him towards the parking lot where they reached Magnus's car. Alec called Jace who met them outside. He looked worried when he caught sight of both of them and approached them.
"Magnus! Dude, where the hell were you?" Jace frowned "You got Izzy all worried…"
"Sorry" Magnus mumbled
"Is everything alright?" Jace asked
"He's not feeling fine…I'll take him home" Alec said "I just called you to give you the keys of the car so you can drive back home"
"Right" Jace nodded and took the keys from Alec and then turned to Magnus "You better text Izzy and tell her you're alright…We all thought those jocks had gotten you and we were about to send a search party for your body"
"Not funny" Alec frowned but Jace just shrugged with a small grin
"Thanks for the sentiment" Magnus rolled him eyes "But I'm fine…I'll text Izzy"
"Alright" Jace nodded and then walked back into the building.
Alec and Magnus got into Magnus's car and Alec drove them around the city until they reached the small bakery they had visited when they went out together the first time.
The same girl who attended them when they first came was there and she took their order kindly and delivered it to the table they had chosen. They had asked for some sandwiches to eat for lunch and some natural juice to go with it.
"So tell me…what's wrong?" Alec asked
"Nothing is wrong" Magnus replied quickly
"Magnus, you can't trick me" Alec said "I know there's something wrong…tell me what is it?"
"It's my father" Magnus admitted finally
"Your father?" Alec asked "Are you talking about your real father or your step-father?"
"My real father" Magnus answered
"I thought you didn't know him" Alec frowned confused
"I don't" Magnus shook his head "But apparently he thought it was time to finally meet each other…the social worker is working with him and they're setting up a date for us to meet"
"And…that's bad?" Alec asked
"Of course it's bad!" Magnus exclaimed
"Hey, calm down" Alec said gently "I'm just saying…you never met your real father and if he's looking for you know that means he at least cares…isn't it good? You're finally meeting your real dad!"
"He's not my dad" Magnus frowned "He left my mother and I with a psycho! My mother is dead because of him…I am in foster care because of him! I don't care if he's my father or whatever…I don't want to meet him"
"Alright, I get it" Alec said "Do you know when this meeting is happening?"
"No" Magnus shook his head "The social worker only said we're meeting…I'm guessing she'll tell me on Thursday"
"Why Thursday?" Alec asked
"A family is coming to the house" Magnus said "They're looking into adopting someone"
"So one of you is leaving?" Alec asked with wide eyes
"Don't worry, I doubt it'll be me" Magnus shrugged "No one wants to adopt a teenager…They'll probably look for the little kids…the twins and Charlie perhaps, if they're lucky"
"I sometimes forget Karen isn't your mother" Alec sighed "How are you all holding up with the possible adoption?"
"No one at the house is happy" Magnus sighed "Karen is looking into adopting us…but it may be hard to adopt seven kids all at once"
"Well…I hope everything goes alright on Thursday" Alec said with a soft smile which Magnus returned.
After lunch Magnus called Karen. He told her he wasn't feeling well and decided to head back home. She seemed worried, but calmed down when Magnus told her Alec was with him. Karen promised to call the school to let them know Magnus had left early and then Magnus and Alec headed back to Magnus's home. It was empty since Karen was still working and the all the kids were still at school.
"Magnus" Alec said as they lay down together on the sofa watching a movie
"hm?" Magnus asked looking up at his boyfriend
"Whatever happens with your father…" Alec started "Just know that I'm always here for you"
"Thank you" Magnus smiled and leaned down to peck his lips.
