Chapter 25

Bella

Emmett's jaw tightened into a stiff line as the breath outside of the door hummed sinisterly. Carlisle appeared in front of the door and looked back at his family warily before opening the door slowly. What I saw was a young child. No more than fifteen, with a wide smile and an unnaturally stiff posture. Her ruby eyes instantly focusing on mine.

"Hello Carlisle." She purred. Emmett tucked me into him further and stared warily at this 'Jane'.

"Hello Jane." Carlisle replied moving behind the couch and setting both arms protectively on either sides of his mate. "Wonderful to see you again."

Jane nodded and turned her gaze to Emmett and I.

"It seems you've made two new additions to your family I presume?" Jane grinned burning her ruby eyes into mine. I narrowed my eyes. I didn't like this character and I had an inkling she didn't like me.

"And who might you be?" Jane asked smearing a snarl across her face.

"Bella." I replied refusing to back down from her direct stare.

Her eyes narrowed into slits as she turned her attention to my Em.

"Ahh, and whom may you be dimples." She grinned in an over friendly way. Her eyes lighting up with fiery passion.

I didn't like it one bit.

A snarl ripped passed my lips before I could think about the action. Emmett was mine.

Jane's eyes glared as they fixated on me. A wicked smile placed on her petite face she spoke. "Carlisle you must teach your young the meaning of respect."

I was furious, she did not deserve my time let alone respect.

Carlisle's demeanor turned frantic.

"Jane please, she didn't know any better!" His gaze quickly darting too me.

"Bella-!" Alice shrieked.

"Pain." Jane whispered. Her eyes glowing with glee.

Three things happened, all in fractions of a second. Emmett was gone by my side. Jane was plowed into Esme's dark wood oak coffee table, and I felt pressure on my shield. The same sensation I felt when I first encountered Jasper.

That sensation ceased as Jane and Emmett splintered the coffee table. That's when I heard his wails. The cry from Emmett was of pure agony. My dead heart clenched.

I didn't just dislike this character anymore. I utterly despised her and I wanted her head. The world around me faded and all I could comprehend was my mate's cries and Jane's wicked grin plastered on her face.

I've never moved as fast in my short vampiric life than I did towards Jane. I felt my stone fingers wrap around Jane's cold neck. As soon as I made contact I pulled. A crack forming against her granite skin.

She clawed and hissed trying to grab me. But, I didn't care. Emmett's wails were gone but the mere fact that she attacked him sent me into another pit of rage.

She snarled and pushed against me. Zipping to the front door she stopped turning back to the shattered scene. Turning her attention to me promising retaliation she took off through the forest and out of my sight. Now that the threat was taken care of. I turned my attention to my mate.

Rosalie pushed through her family's line. Her golden eyes ablaze.

"You fool." She snarled at me. "You have started a war!"
