Chapter Twenty-Five:
Unohana's POV
I had heard that there was a member of the Eleventh Division here today, not that that was anything new. The thing that had made this time very different was that this member walked in willingly. I know only one member that would do that and usually her lover had something to do with it. Sadly enough, every member in my division was terrified of her despite the fact that she had been nothing but kind and gentle to them. I guess it had to do with her behavior around the more rambunctious members of her squad. Either that or it could just be the fact that they're skeptical about her harmless intentions and do not wish to be the victim. The only thing that remains certain is that Heather used to personally request for me when she gotten too sick and tired of my lower ranking troops. Now, I just keep her as my regular patient. I opened the door and looked at the younger woman, I could not help but wonder how she managed to live through the Eleventh Division and still be the way she was even if it was away from her subordinates eyes and ears. "Hello, Heather. What brings you here today on such short notice?" I asked the newly appointed Eighth Seat. "An overprotective boyfriend." she answered with the roll of her eyes. So Captain Ōtoribashi did have something to do with this? "What's the ailment this time?" I asked. "I personally think it's just a stomach bug but he's thinking I'm getting something pretty big. I swear, sometimes he's worse than a mother." Heather replied with a chuckle.
I shook my head softly and asked, "How long have you been putting this off?" She looked at me embarrassed and replied, "Two weeks, I decided I had been puking too much for too long." I gave her a look and she averted her attention elsewhere. Thirty-years-old and she can still be quite the child. Strange thing is, she did not look a day older than when she first arrived. She truly did develop to be like the rest of us. "Has nine years of him being right taught you nothing? One would think that you two were married by now." I tutted lightly and then instructed, "Lean back." Heather did as she was told while arguing, "Please, Captain, I don't want to hear that speech right now. What more could we possibly gain if we got married?" "It would show that you two finally decided to commit yourselves." I stated simply and laid my hand over her upper stomach in order to send spirit energy to search the affected area. Heather gave a heavy sigh and looked at me somewhat impatiently. I frowned. There was nothing wrong with her digestive organs.
"I don't like that look. What's with the look?" my patient asked me worriedly. I did not answer and shifted my search lower. That's when I felt the irregularity. It was a mass that was giving off spirit energy of its own. My jaw dropped slightly. Those two careless idiots, she's pregnant. "How's your menstrual cycle?" I asked. "Off as usual." she replied irritably. Oh, she was not kidding about 'off'. "It appears that you and Captain Ōtoribashi have a lot of decisions to make but not a lot of time to do it." I informed her and filled in when she gave me a confused expression, "Congratulations, you two are going to have a baby." Heather looked at me completely dumbstruck. "You mean I'm…" she trailed off and I nodded already knowing what she was going to ask. I responded, "Eight weeks. Now is the time you should actually be making this public. Marriage is now a must." Heather rolled her eyes at me and I had no choice but to lay down the law. "Heather, Central 46 does not tolerate this kind of behavior. They will order for your child to be given to what their standards consider to be a proper home." I told her pressing the seriousness of this situation. Her face drained of all color and she looked back at me as if at a loss. "Well, you're right about one thing," she finally replied seriously. "Hm?" I asked. "Rose and I definitely need to talk. He should be home by now." Heather stood up and I sensed the nervousness in her stance. I felt it was necessary to try and calm her down. I assured, "Don't worry, Heather. Everything will be just fine. Captain Ōtoribashi won't go anywhere."
