Chapter 25
Close Calls
Authors notes: I don't own H20: Just Add Water. Only My Oc's Morgan Thompson, and David and Derek Smith. I'd love it for one person to review each chapter so that I know at least one person likes my story still and I'll continue it.
The girls swam at top speed to look for the twins. They all met at Mako Island and decided to split up into groups.
"We'll never find them at this rate." Emma said.
"Em's right," Cleo declared, "If we all split up this'll go at lot faster.
"Alright then we all split up." Rikki agreed. "I'll go with Bella and check the reefs."
"Cleo and I can check around on Mako." Emma offered.
"Morgan and I can check near Denman's research facility." Charlotte replied.
"Good, now lets get moving." Rikki said.
The girls went off in their designated groups and began their search once more for their two mermen friends.
Charlotte and Morgan sped off and swam towards Denman's research facility. They swam as fast as they could; knowing that they couldn't afford to let the boys reveal themselves as Mermen. It wouldn't just jepordize themselves; but the rest of their friends as well. Not top mention any other mermaids... or mermen that were or could be out there in the world.
They found a secluded part of the beach and waoited for themselves to dry off.
Morgan groaned, "This would be so much easier if Rikki was here with us."
"Yeah, or if I had recieved all of Cleo, Emma, and Rikki's power's like I did last time." Charlotte said, "But it's probably a good thing I didn't get all their powers. I probably would've gone all power hungry again."
"Probabaly." Morgan agreed.
"Did you hear that?" Charlotte asked suddenly.
"Hear what?" she responded.
"Shh!" The red headed mermaid hissed in reply. It sounded like voices talking; a male and a female.
"We should set some traps around Mako Island." the woman's voice responded. "The picture of the two mermaids were taken entering and exiting the cave there. The one where we trapped the girls last time."
"Sounds like a good Idea." the male voice answered.
"Shit!" Morgan said, "It sounds like Dr. Denman."
"What are we going to do?"
"We need to get dried off...and fast." the brunette answered.
"But how are we supposed to do that?" Charlotte replied.
"I don't know, but we need to figure out something fast." she told her. "It seems like their voices are getting closer." Charlotte made a fist over her heart, and across her chest. She then grabbed Morgan's arm. "What are you doing?" She hissed.
"Be quiet." Charlotte hissed back.
They both went silent and not a moment too soon. Dr. Denman and her assistant Greg appeared.
"Is everything alright Dr. Denman?" Greg asked.
"I just thought I heard two female voices over here." Denman paused, "Maybe it was just my imaginaition though."
Dr. Denman looked right where the two mermaids were laying on the sand; but she seemed not to see them there. Denman was about to leave when something caught her eye. It was the marks their mermaid tails had made when they had dragged themselves up onto the beach.
"Do you see that Greg?"
"Yes Dr. Denman."
"These are the kind of tracks only a mermaids' tail could make. We might be even closer than we think to our mermaids." Dr. Denman and her assistant turned and left a moment later. The two girls let out sighs of relief.
"That was a close one." Charlotte declared.
"Yeah, no kidding." Morgan replied. "But how did she not see us? She was looking directly at you and me."
"I don't know." Charlotte replied thoughtfully.
"Well, why we ponder why she didn't seem to see us; would you mind letting fo of my arm. You're bruising it."
Charlotte immediately released her grip on Morgan's arm. "Sorry!"
Morgan looked over at the red headed mermaid anbd her jaw dropped. "Charlotte, what happened?"
"What do you mean?"
"I can't see you at all."
"What?"
"I said 'I can't see you' like at all."
"What? Really?" She said surprised.
Charlotte let her arm drop and suddenly she was visible again. "How did you do that?"
"Do what?"
"Turn you and me invisible all of a sudden."
"Well, I just crossed my right arm over my chest and made a fist like this and then... This happened."
"How did you know that you could do that though?"
"It was just instictual." Charlotte told her. "I had no idea I could."
"Well, I guess it's safe to say that you've found your power." Morgan said.
"I guess so."
"Wait till Lewis hears about this. It'll throw his whole "Mermaids powers are elementally based theory' right out the window."
The two mermaids laughed in unison. Their legs returned and the two of them stood up now both visible.
"Now, we have to concentrate of finding David and Derek to stop them from turning themselves in to Denman and her goons." Charlotte reminded her.
"Right, let's get going then." They both headed towards where Denmans research facility was in the marine park.
After searching the reefs Cleo and Emma met up with Rikki and Bella again at Mako.
"You guys didn't find them either?" Bella asked.
"No, we've searched all of the reefs." Cleo responded, "They're no where to be found."
"Well they have to be somewhere.' Rikki argued.
"Maybe we should try to catch up with Morgan and Charlotte to see if they've found anything." Emma suggessed.
All the mermaids agreed and swam towards a secluded part of the beach; the very same one Morgan and Charlotte had been at only moments earlier.
"Look marks from two tails." Emma pointed out. "It has to be theirs."
"Which theirs though." Rikki asked, "The guys or the girls?"
"I don't know." Emma replied, "But it's one or the other. We should follow them and see where they lead."
The girls followed Emma's lead. They began to follow the tail tracks and they changed into footprints until they disappeared entirely.
"Now what?" Cleo asked.
"We have to keep going." Emma said.
"I agree with Emma." Bella put in. "If any of them are exposed all of us will be in a lot of danger."
The guys meanwhile had arrived at the marine park. They slipped into Dr. Denmans office hoping to find her; but she wasn't in.
"She's not here." David observed. "Now what?"
"We wait, I guess." Derek responded.
After a few moments of silence David spoke again. "I'm scared of what will happen if we go through with this Der."
"I know..." He responded. "I am too; but we have to do this... To keep the girls- and the rest of our friends safe and out of Denmans cluches."
"What if we just find all of her merpeople evidence and destroy it instead?"
"You know, that just might work." Derek told his twin brother. "Let's get on it."
The boys rumaged through the files and founf everything they could pertaining to themselves and the girls. They grabbed it all and were about to leave; when the doors handle began to turn and open.
The door opened and they came face to face with...
