Chapter 25

I walked down the stairs and towards the door leading to the garden at the back of the house. I didn't know which way Stefan had gone which made things a little harder. I continued walking outside and decided that I would simply walk until I found Stefan. That way I didn't have to pretend that I wasn't looking for him because it would already seem that way.

As I walked out into the garden I saw that it was as big as I thought it was when I went out to walk in it that first night and told Damon that I wasn't a vampire. There were small, separate gardens everywhere which all had different plants and flowers in it that made it look like you were walking through every season and every place where you can find plants and flowers on earth. I imagine this is what the queen of England's gardens must look like at her palace.

I walked out onto the big lawn and over to one of the flowerbed that had beautiful pansies in it in so many different colours I almost thought they were fake. I walked around to a few more flower beds and saw the big tree that Damon and I had sat under. I still hadn't found Stefan and I was tired of walking around so I went over to sit under the big tree.

I sat with my back against the tree on the cool grass and tried to think of what I would say to Stefan. I hadn't even thought that far I was just so determined to find him. Where was I going to begin and how was I going to ask him all the things I wanted to know without letting him know that I was asking about him but from 150 years from now. Did Stefan even know that I wasn't a vampire? Or had Katherine not told him? Should I tell him that I am not a vampire if he didn't know that I was one? It was all so much to think about and I didn't even know what Katherine would do to me if or when she found out that I had told Damon that I wasn't a vampire. Katherine and I had cleared things up but that didn't mean she wouldn't be beyond furious when she found out.

So deep in my thoughts and worrying about so many things in my new life in 1864, I didn't notice that Stefan was walking towards me or that he had stopped went he got to me.

"Miss Pierce." Stefan said making my jump out of my skin and whipping me out of my thoughts.

"Oh, Mr Salvatore, you startled me!"

"My apologies, Miss Pierce, I did not know you were out in the garden. I would have walked with you if I knew you were."

"If you are still able to walk with me now I will forgive you for not walking with me before but I have one condition, Mr Salvatore."

"What is your condition, Miss Pierce?"

"That you stop calling me Miss Pierce and call me Elena. Miss Pierce is very formal and I do not like being so formal." I said with a smile.

"Of course, Miss Pierce I mean Elena."

"Fantastic. Now I have one more request."

"Yes, Elena?"

"Please could you help me up? It is rather difficult to get up in these dresses." I said with a grimace.

"Here take my hand." Stefan said before pulling me up.

"Thank you Mr Salvatore."

"It is a pleasure, Elena. You may call me Stefan if you wish?" Stefan said.

"Thank you, Stefan." I said with a smile. I could see that it was rather strange for him not to be so formal.

"Where would you like to walk, Elena?" Stefan said offering me his arm.

"Would you show me you favourite flower in the garden, Stefan?"

"Of course I will. It is this way." Stefan said leading me away from the big tree and into the garden.

Eventually we came to a small flowerbed that was filled with all types of bluebells. I released Stefan's arm and bent down to look at the flowers. Stefan bent down next to me and pointed at some of the bluebells.

"These are my favourite flowers." He said touching them delicately.

"Virginia Bluebells. They are always so beautiful."

"How did you know they were Virginia Bluebells, Elena?" Stefan said with a shocked look on his face.

"They used to grow in the flowerbeds along the fence of our home when I was little. I always used to think they were fairy bells." I said with a giggle.

"They are my favourite for that very reason although more for them looking like bells as opposed to fairy bells." Stefan said with a smile as we stood up again and walked over to a small stone bench nearby.

"Do you not believe in fairies Stefan?" I said with my one eyebrow raised.

"No I do not, Elena. I have never seen one so I would not be able to believe in them."

"And yet you believe in Vampires and other mystical creatures that are also from fairy tales?"

"I believe in them because I have seen them. Have you never heard of the saying 'seeing is believing', Elena?"

"I have learnt that sometimes you have to believe in things to be able to see them or else we would not be able to find them."

"You are quite right, Elena."

"Thank you, Stefan."

If I was going to ask Stefan about my Stefan it was now or never but I kept asking myself how was I going to go about asking him. I knew the only way to do it was to just ask him and be as truthful as possible.

"Stefan, may I ask your advice on something?" I said looking back at the bluebells.
