Inside the volcano, Elsa and Tollak have been fighting each other with their magic abilities. With Tollak's movements being restricted by his stone body, Elsa has been able to easily avoid Tollak's direct attacks.
However, Tollak could not say the same. It was not too difficult for Elsa to continually land blows against Tollak. Still Tollak is able to cause some difficulty for Elsa by generating massive flame events. Events like fire walls that restrict Elsa's movements. That is until Elsa penetrates through these walls with her magic. Another event involved the spreading of flames across the floor until they erupt upwards. The down side to such attacks was the impact that they possessed. As the energy was spread out over a larger area, a more concentrated responds by Elsa would allow her to escape the situation
Spending time with Kristian had taught Elsa how to deal with these events. Mostly Kristian and Elsa would tease one another with their abilities, though the energy that they would use would be at a low level. It was never near the strength that Tollak was now using.
While these two magical opposites fought each other, an unexpected event was occurring to both combatants. Since Elsa was using her magic; the energy orbs, which were floating in the air outside the volcano, were being drawn to the Snow Queen. Since Elsa was preoccupied with her battle against Tollak, she didn't notice the magical energy orbs begin to enter her being. The energy, that enters Elsa, allows her powers to grow in strength. As her powers grow, Elsa's attacks become more powerful.
Unfortunately, the consequences of this added magic can be visibly seen by the transformation of Elsa's appearance. As more energy orbs enter Elsa's being, her hair totally turns dark blue and her skin turns to a lighter shade of blue. The energies also affect Elsa emotionally, but she is too preoccupied with Tollak to notice any of these changes.
As for Tollak, he was beginning to be hit with harder and harder attacks from Elsa. Initially, Elsa's attacks would only cause Tollak to take a step or two backwards. However, with the increase in strength, Elsa's attacks begin to force Tollak even further back. Sometimes, these attacks would even knock Tollak to the ground.
Initially, Tollak disliked these attacks. However after a while, Tollak begins to enjoy the results of Elsa's continued increase in strength. This is for one simple reason; Elsa's attacks are depositing the magical energies of the cold into Tollak's body. As the strength of Elsa's attacks increased, so did the amount of energy that was being deposited into Tollak. Slowly but surely, Tollak's body was being released from its stone transformation.
As Tollak begins to realize that his body was being released, he changes what he is trying to attempt. Tollak no longer desires to end Elsa's life, but he keeps trying to force Elsa in using her magical abilities. Soon enough, the battle has enough of an effect on Tollak. Tollak is able to move his body quick enough, where he is able to land an attack directly on Elsa.
Tollak is very pleased with his greater freedom of movement. However, he is also a bit surprised. Tollak had attacked with a low energy fireball. Still he thought that Elsa should have been knocked down by the attack. However, Elsa was able to withstand the attack with little effort.
"You're stronger than I anticipated," exclaims Tollak.
"You've just over estimated your own abilities," replies Elsa.
"Hardly, I only have to compensate for this new reality," responds Tollak. "That is something I am very capable of doing. None the less, I am very pleased with how this confrontation is going."
"I seriously doubt that you will be pleased for long," says Elsa just before she unleashes an intensive strike against Tollak.
Tollak responds to this by generating a fire barrier. However, Tollak is still a bit stiff in his movements. The fire barrier he generates only absorbs a portion of Elsa's attack. The rest of the energy still strikes Tollak solidly, and it sends him sailing across the room until he lands hard against the floor. As Tollak lies on the floor, he begins to laugh.
"Ow, that did hurt," says Tollak with a bit of a chuckle. "You have definitely gotten stronger since we started this fight."
"I think it is you that has weakened," replies Elsa as a ball of energy crackles over her up right palm. "You have been wasting your energy on many powerful strikes, and using all that energy has drained you."
"You are only partly right," responds Tollak as he pushes himself into a kneeling position. "I have been using powerful attacks, but I am hardly drained of energy."
As Tollak gets to his knees, he notices that the stone has left nearly half of his body. Elsa's last powerful attack managed to revert parts of his body back into flesh. Then with a laugh, Tollak unleashes a quick and powerful strike at Elsa.
Elsa quickly responds by creating a barrier to the oncoming fire. However, Tollak's attack was extremely powerful; and it shatters Elsa's ice barrier. Yet the barrier did manage to reduce the strength of the oncoming fire. Still what remained of the fire hits Elsa hard and sends her sailing backwards until she hits the wall. The wall itself ignites with fire, except for the area of the wall that Elsa hits. Elsa's own magic quickly ices over the wall immediately around her.
After only being slightly dazed, Elsa pushes herself away from the wall. Then Elsa extends her arms out from her sides. A wicked hiss is then heard as Elsa easily extinguishes the fire that was climbing on the wall behind her.
"You will regret that last assault on me," says Elsa in a hostile and cold tone.
"Go on. Bring your best shot!" loudly says Tollak with a smile as he gets to his feet.
In response to Tollak's challenge, Elsa raises a hand into the air above her head. In an instant, a storm cloud begins to form and it rapidly fills the air above the heads of Elsa and Tollak. As the storm cloud forms, Tollak quickly flares his hands up to prepare for whatever Elsa might be doing.
Once the cloud has filled the room, Elsa sternly says, "Let's see what you are able to do against this."
With this said, a bolt of lightning flashes through the cloud and a loud thunder boom shakes the entire chamber. Afterwards, large pieces of hail begin to fall swiftly from the storm cloud. Each piece of hail Elsa easily directs in the direction of Tollak.
As the hail begins to fall, Tollak is just barely able to establish a fire shield. The shield is able to absorb the initial impact of the hail. However, Elsa quickly intensifies the strength of the hail storm. For a moment, Tollak is able to respond to the increase. However, the hail eventually overwhelms the fire shield; and Tollak is immediately buried under a large pile of hail.
Once Tollak is buried, Elsa stops the hail; but the storm cloud still remains. For a moment, Elsa just stares at the pile of hail with a stern cold look on her face. As Elsa watches the pile, she notices the pile begin to shake. As the pile shakes, Elsa holds her hands up; and her magic begins to swirl over her open palms. This magical energy crackles in the air as Elsa prepares to strike at Tollak.
However, while Elsa is focused on the pile of hail, she fails to see the initial formation of several fires around the chamber floor. In a moment though, Elsa's attention is quickly drawn to the fires. This is because the fires surge upward with a loud roar. These fires surge so high that they penetrate the storm cloud. Then with a loud crackling, hissing, and popping the storm cloud is dissipated by the raging fires.
As Elsa watches the destruction of her storm cloud, the hail pile begins to melt rapidly. In only a few seconds, Tollak is standing free of the hail; and his body is completely covered in flames. Something else has also happened to Tollak. His body is once again totally made of flesh. The stone that once was his body has been replaced by human skin and tissue. However, a sign of his powers still remains on his body. Red lines go across his being, and flames flare from these red lines.
"An impressive try, witch," exclaims Tollak. "But you are going to have to do a lot better than that."
With this said, Tollak unleashes a large fireball directly at Elsa. Elsa merely raises a hand up. Then just before the fireball hits her outstretched hand, Elsa generates a magical energy surge. This surge causes the fireball to crackle and hiss before it is vaporized into a cloud of smoke.
"I can't say the same for your last attack," replies Elsa as her power surges around her hands.
Then Elsa releases a ball of energy directly at Tollak. This ball hisses as it moves through the air. However, just as the ball of energy reaches Tollak, Tollak slaps his flaming hands together around the energy ball. With this slap, the ball of energy is vaporized into a cloud of steam.
"You're not the only one who can handle themselves in a fight," says Tollak in rebuff. "However, it has been annoying that I have been underestimating your strength. Yet, it has been very gratifying to be challenged in such an intensive way."
"Your gratification means nothing to me," replies Elsa. "Only your defeat matters to me, and your submission to my will."
Once again Elsa charges up her powers, and Tollak responds by doing the same. Just as Elsa and Tollak were once again going to engage each other, Anna and Kristoff come running into the chamber.
As Anna notices the physical state that Elsa is in, and the power surging around Elsa's hands and body; Anna calls out to her sister. "Elsa, stop!"
Hearing the call from her sister, Elsa suspends her actions for a moment as she looks over at Anna. However, Tollak only glances over at Anna and Kristoff before he unleashes a full barrage of flaming orbs towards Elsa.
Elsa is just barely able to respond to this attack by creating an ice barrier against the orbs. The barrier only withstands the orbs for a short time before it shatters into multiple pieces. The shock wave that results from the shattering barrier sends Elsa sprawling onto the floor. However, she is only slightly dazed from the attack.
From her position on the floor, Elsa quickly generates a slope of ice in front of her. This ice is able to direct Tollak's attack away from her. Once Elsa is able to regain her senses, she projects two streams of snow off to each side of her. These streams create two beasts of snow and ice. These beasts then quickly charge at Tollak.
With this new threat bearing down on him, Tollak has to divert his attention to these beasts. It was not too difficult for Tollak to dispatch these threats, but it did require his full attention to do so. This distraction allows Elsa time to get to her feet.
Once on her feet, Elsa raises a hand up in front of her. With this motion a swirl of snow begins to form at Tollak's feet. Then just as Tollak looks down at this snow, the snow erupts upward in a thick swirling mass. It was thick enough where Tollak could no longer be seen in the center of the spinning snow.
Now that Tollak has to deal with Elsa's snow cyclone, Anna comes running up to her sister. "Elsa, you need to stop using your powers!" exclaims Anna. "Your magic is being amplified by the magical energies that Tollak has taken!"
"What does that matter? If so, it is only helping me to battle Tollak," replies Elsa with a cold emotionless tone. "I can win this conflict and force Tollak to submit to me."
"But at what cost, Elsa?" counters Anna. "By continuing your attacks, you could end up in the same state as Tollak. Even worse, you could end up destroying yourself with your own magic. I am worried that it may already be too late for you now!"
"There is nothing wrong with me," replies Elsa sternly. "The power that I possess is all that I need to have right now."
"But Elsa, is that all that you have?" asks Anna. "Do you still have your feelings? I care about you, and I don't want to lose you." Elsa then looks at Anna with a blank look on her face. The light blue color of her face softens a bit, and the dark blue of her hair doesn't seem to have as strong a vibrancy to it. After seeing this blank look, Anna continues. "Elsa, even if you can't feel anything anymore, you still have the memories of how you use to feel. Just hold onto those memories and remember that I would never want anything to happen to you."
While Anna was talking to Elsa, Tollak has been busy dissipating the swirling snow around him. As Tollak was working, the swirling snow around him was being replaced with his own fire. Once the cyclone has been total replaced with his fire, the cyclone begins to fade away.
You are full of surprises, witch," exclaims Tollak as flames surround his hands. "Normally, being surprised displeases me. However, I will tolerate this annoying habit from you, for the time being."
"I wonder how much you will tolerate from me then, for I have another surprise for you," says Elsa coldly as she turns to address Tollak. A little bit of snow swirls around her hands as she addresses Tollak.
"Elsa, please, for your own sake," interrupts Anna out of concern for Elsa.
Elsa glances over at Anna with a very cold and stern look. Then she turns back towards Tollak. "My next action is going to surprise us both, and that action is for me to say goodbye to you," says Elsa coldly.
A determined look comes across Tollak's face as he braces himself for another attack from Elsa. However, Tollak is stunned when he sees Elsa simple turn and walk away. As for Anna, she is greatly relieved to see Elsa take this action. Then she begins to follow Elsa out. However, Anna also keeps a wary eye on Tollak as well.
"What sort of trickery is this?" demands Tollak as he watches Elsa leave.
"It is no trick!" responds Kristoff as Elsa and Anna near him. "Elsa knows who her friends are, and she knows that we have her best interests at heart."
Tollak roars as his flame shoots high into the air from his body. Then Tollak quickly generates a firewall between the exit and the departing trio. The firewall stops everyone from leaving, and they all turn around to face Tollak. With Elsa, she causes her magic to crackle around her hands with energy. However, Anna notices this and puts her hand up towards Elsa to indicate that she wants Elsa to stop. Elsa does respond to this gesture of Anna's by proceeding no further. However, the energy still swirls around her hands.
"She doesn't care about any of you!" exclaims Tollak loudly. "The only thing that she cares about is herself and her power!"
"You're wrong! She does care! That is why she has decided to leave!" responds Anna.
"Look at her!" counters Tollak. "Her physical appearance has changed, and it is not only her physical appearance that has changed! She is no longer the same person! None of you mean anything to her any more. Her powers, over the cold, have frozen her emotions! She feels nothing now, no love, no kindness, and no compassion!"
"You are wrong about that!" exclaims Anna. "Yet even if you are; Elsa is still my sister, and I would never give up on her!"
Now Elsa steps forward and responds, "You may be right about me, Tollak. I know my emotional state is clouded. It may even be absent. However, I made a promise to myself that I would heed the advice of my sister. I intend to honor that promise. If Anna wishes for me to end my combat with you, I will."
"You're somehow maintaining a fragment of your emotions," replies Tollak with some surprise. "Otherwise, you would not even care about other opinions. You must not be as far gone as I had thought. So why don't I just push you past that point." With this, Tollak begins to cause his hands to flare up once again.
Elsa responds to this by increasing the amount of energy swirling around her own hands. However, before either one of them is able to act, Anna steps between Elsa and Tollak. She then addresses Tollak. "Tollak! What purpose will this continued fight accomplish? You have already gotten what you wanted, your freedom from your rocky state! Even I can see that!"
"Granted, I can't deny that I am very pleased with the results of our interaction," replies Tollak. "So it is no longer my desire to see to the demise of Elsa."
"You mean you will agree to stop your actions, and will you also remove the curse that is on Kristian?" asks Anna with surprise.
"And you are willing to let all of us go?" asks Kristoff with some skepticism.
"Oh, I am not agreeing to all of that," replies Tollak. "First of all, there is no benefit to me in removing the curse from Kristian. Why would I want to bring all of the energy that I have placed into Kristian back into me? I've just freed myself from the burden of such magic, though I see no need to expand the curse's strength anymore. Secondly, I have no intention in letting Elsa leave."
"But you said, you would not harm Elsa?" exclaims Anna out of concern for what this revelation might mean.
"I said that I no longer wish to see her life ended," replies Tollak. "However, that does not mean that I want to stop using Elsa and her magical abilities."
"You have already received a benefit from Elsa's magic. What more could you possibly want to gain from her?" responds Kristoff.
"In time, my own powers will once again try to reclaim my body. So I need to stave off those effects. That is why Elsa shall never leave my presence," says Tollak. "If I had known the effects of having a living ice witch here, I would have had one brought to me long ago."
"A living being, with the power over the cold, would never have made it here by force," replies Kristoff. "The closer they would have come here, the stronger their magic would become. We have already seen it happen with Elsa."
"Then that is another reason why this ice witch shall never leave," says Tollak. "I can't afford to lose such a valuable commodity for me."
Suddenly Anna and Kristoff hear a loud crackling of energy behind their backs. They both turn and see Elsa. Elsa has raised a hand in front of her, and she is causing her powers to surge over the top of that hand. With her hand raised like this, Elsa comes walking forward.
"I am not a thing to be kept, especial by you," says Elsa in a very cold tone.
"Go on witch, I have taken everything that you have dished out at me," gloats Tollak. "There is nothing that you can do that can surprise me now."
"We shall see," replies Elsa as her power continues to surge.
Then Elsa begins to move her arm, and Tollak causes his own powers to surge. He prepares himself to counter Elsa's actions. However, what Elsa does next surprises Tollak. Elsa turns towards the exit and lays down a vast area of ice and snow. Large mounds of snow and scary spikes of ice cover the floor. Elsa's cold burst also extinguished the firewall that had stopped Elsa and the others from leaving.
Then Elsa begins to walk towards the exit. "Kristoff, Anna, we are leaving," says Elsa as she walks by them. With great relief and apprehension, Anna follows Elsa. So does Kristoff as he keeps a wary eye on Tollak.
"What are you doing? Fight me!" exclaims Tollak out of surprise.
"For what purpose should I fight? I now understand that you have been exploiting my abilities for your own needs. Thanks to Anna, I shall no longer partake in your games," replies Elsa with a cold hiss.
"You can't leave! I won't let you!" exclaims Tollak as he roars. Then with his flaming hands, Tollak once again tries to establish a firewall between Elsa and the exit.
However, just as the firewall begins to rise from the floor, Elsa extends both of her hands and projects her own magic forward. Elsa's magic extinguishes the firewall right at the exit. Elsa also continues to project her magic forward to prevent the firewall from reestablishing over the exit. This doesn't stop Tollak from trying. However, Tollak has no success at reestablishing his firewall.
"You don't have the ability to confine me, Tollak," says Elsa as she holds Tollak's firewall back from covering the way out. "Originally, I hoped that I would be able to bargain with you to release Kristian from your curse. That failed. That left me with only one option. I had to force you to remove the curse. However, with the increased power that I now have over the cold, I don't think that I need your help anymore. I should be able to drive the curse out of Kristian myself."
"Kristian will no longer be alive when you get back to him!" exclaims Tollak. "Even with my diminished connection with him, I can sense that Kristian's body is already stiffening! He will be nothing but a statue by the time you get back!"
"I brought you back from your stone state! It should be a simple thing to revert Kristian as well!" exclaims Elsa with a cold tone in her voice.
"If I cannot force you to stay as my prisoner, then I shall force your magic to stay by causing your death!" exclaims Tollak. "One way or another, your magic is going to be staying with me!"
With this exclamation, Tollak releases a torrent of fire straight as Elsa. "Look out!" exclaims Kristoff as he pulls Anna out of the way of the roaring flames.
As for Elsa, she quickly generates her own surge of energy that meets Tollak's fire. For a moment, a stale mate is established as the powers violently fight against each other. However, Tollak has another strategy in mind. While Elsa is focused on the torrent of fire, the floor beneath Elsa begins to glow red. Suddenly, molten rock begins to burst upwards around Elsa.
Elsa quickly reacts to this lava by cooling the molten rock until it solidifies. Soon spires of solidified rock surround Elsa. However, Tollak continues his lava attack with even more strength. In just a few moments, the lava surges high above the head of Elsa before it collapses down upon her.
"Elsa!" cries out Anna as she sees her sister engulfed in the molten rock.
For a while, the molten rock just oozes around in a mount over the top of Elsa. Then the rock begins to cool and solidify. Once the rock solidifies, a frost develops on the outside of the rock. Afterwards, the rock begins to crumble and it collapses into a pile of small rubble. In the center of the rubble stands Elsa.
However, a tragic thing has happened to Snow Queen. She was no longer comprised of human flesh and tissue. By forcing Elsa to use her magic and the magic that she had absorbed, Tollak has caused Elsa to freeze her own body. Elsa was now simply a statue of ice.
