The Light in the Shadows:
Chapter 25: Once Upon An Icy Night
AN: This story came to me on the icy roads as I was on my way to work. Wheeee!

One very unhappy Kaito Dark sneezed violently and glared at the window. Of all nights, why did Emiko have to send out a warning note on the evening forecasting freezing rain? The phantom thief slipped quietly into the room where his target was ironically the painting that he was to steal was in titled An Artic Night. Either Emiko had an evil since of humor and got a kick out of the weather matching the painting or it was the work of some kind of sadistic higher power that hated thieves. He wasn't sure but either was a distinct possibility. Purple eyes rolled even the police force were lack luster in their protection staying snug and warm in their command post and not wandering the drafty halls. It only took Dark a moment to remove the painting from the wall and slip back into the hall on his way to the roof. He broke into an easy jog the faster he could get out of the museum the faster he could get home and warm.

Sapphire eyes regarded the icy roof in annoyance. Right now Satoshi Hiwatari Hated Phantom Dark more than anything else in the wide universe. The weather was truly miserable and the young police commander would rather be at home in the warmth rather than freezing his ass off on a drafty museum roof. The blue haired teen felt the slightest of shifts from his mental companion even the Hikari Hunter who was always ready to fight his darker self, seemed to have no interest in coming out. /"I'm surprised that you are not pushing for control."/
/"You are looking at the same roof top that I am are you not?"/
The teen rolled his eyes honestly this was one night that he actually wouldn't have minded his curse taking control. The last Hikari smiled slowly, /"hey Krad?"/
/"Yes Satoshi-sama?"/
/"Do be careful,"/ with that the bluenette mentally stepped back shoving his magical companion into control of their body.
Feline eyes blinked before giving the icy night sky a look of absolute disgust. /"Thank you ever so much Satoshi-sama."/ White wings curled around the long haired blond's slender frame for warmth. The hunter's gaze swept across the roof seeing if there was a better vantage point less exposed to the bitingly cold wind; yellow eyes easily able to see in the dark finally spotted a better location a bit away from where he was now. However to get to the new spot he would have to cross the roof which was covered in a fine layer of ice. The white angel heaved a sigh and carefully started across the slick ground. He was not prepared though for a hundred and some pounds of thief to crash into his legs. Krad yelped in surprise as his feet were taken out from beneath him and he landed hard on top of the other artwork.

The phantom bounded up the stairs to the roof and through the door he'd left ajar on his entry into the museum earlier that night. Purple eyes widened and a gasp was torn from his throat as the magical being's feet shot out from under him and with his momentum he was sent sliding rapidly across the ice. The kaito grunted in surprise then pain as he collided with something that proceeded to fall on top of him pinning the black angel to the cold ground. The thief could only lay there winded struggling to regain the breath that had been knocked from his body.
"Of all the damn nights Mousy, why did you have to choose tonight?" Krad shoved himself to his hands and knees shivering as icy rain trickled down his collar. The hunter carefully climbed to his feet before reaching down for the painting. Golden eyes examined the artwork closely checking that the piece hadn't been damaged during the collision of the two halves. Once satisfied that nothing had happened to the picture or it's frame the white angel tucked the painting under his arm turning away.
The kaito sat up rubbing at his chest, "what, you not going to try and fight me tonight?" The black clad entity slowly clambered to his feet careful not to start sliding once more on the ice.
Krad glanced back over his shoulder, "you are an idiot if you think I am wasting time fighting you in the freezing rain." Snowy wings spread, "I am going back to my tamer's where it is warm and I can dry out. You can do as you wish thief, it is no concern of mine." The white angel leaped into the air wings beating powerfully to gain altitude.
Dark shrugged he really was glad that the other half of his soul did not wish to fight tonight. His eyes however widened as he realized that the hunter had flown off with his stolen artwork tucked under an arm. Tan lips curved in exasperated amusement that sneaky blond devil had taken complete advantage of the situation. Black clad shoulders shrugged, ah well it wasn't like he didn't know where creepy-boy lived. He would just stop by one night when the weather was better and steal the painting then. He summoned Wiz and quickly started back to the Niwas. His counterpart had the right idea with getting home, warm and dried out.
